I came here with a group of 7 friends to celebrate a 40th birthday and had the best time! It is a beautiful resort with lots of restaurants, bars, activities, animals and friendly staff. The staff was amazing. So friendly and helpful. It seemed like they enjoyed what they did and made our experience special. The restaurants were each very different. You are given a QR code when you check in and use it for your stay including making reservations. Definitely make your reservations in advance because it will fill up. Some restaurants were better than others, but B-Loved was by far the best! You have to have a "privileged" or "exclusive" reservation to dine here but it is worth it. The seafood is amazing. The rooms are clean but you do experience occasion power outages. The pool is beautiful and the beach is right at the end of the resort so you can go back and forth. I liked how the resort had day and evening activities including dancing, music, athletics, trivia, volleyball, etc. We had a great time and would recommend!

My sister and I went here for my birthday. We were there for 7 days and had the best time of our lives honestly. We have traveled to many beautiful resorts but this one was just amazing. We took so many beautiful pictures and videos of our experience. The staff were super friendly and interacted with us. Most people we met were there on their honeymoon and anniversary. It is a great spot for that. I can go on and on about how much we loved everything but this review would be way too long. I would like to thank them for a wonderful birthday. My sister had told them early we were coming there for a birthday celebration. On that day, they put a happy birthday sign on our door. They gave me a free spa day and my sis was half off. We were pampered, massages were great. Everything was great. Then that night, where we chose to have dinner was by the beach. The staff sang happy birthday for me and brought me cake. It was amazing. My sis and I still talk about how much we loved it there. We wanna go back. When we didn't feel like waking up earlier for breakfast, room service would be us a great breakfast, exactly what we asked for. I know I said I wasn't going to go on forever about our experience but I really don't wanna leave some important things out. There were a lot of restaurants so you choose where you want to eat and we enjoyed all the places. It was never boring, there were always shows, games, dances, etc going on. Sometimes a staff would be walking around with beautiful birds so people can take pictures or play with them. The only part me and my sister didn't like was leaving to come back home after the 7 days lol.

I love this place so much I went twice within three months. Once in March 2021 and once in June 2021. I've been with a friend and by myself and have never felt unsafe. The staff is so friendly and chill. You're offered a welcome drink and fresh towel. The walk from the pool/beach area to the lobby is 5mins or less, walking normally, not a "speed walk" so I'm very confused as to the reviews which say otherwise. If you fly into Cancun I highly recommend booking a private van through USA transfers. It's inexpensive and once you see the lines of people waiting for buses and companies trying to scam you, you'll definitely love the personalized experience. We visited a cenote 2 miles down the road from the resort and it was $30 roundtrip in a taxi. There is a van which stops across the street from the resort. It's $2 PP and is a small local van so it's super packed. If you want to stop at a specific place let the driver know or you'll end up on a street corner in downtown Playa like we did the first time. I highly recommend going to Playa because the food and entertainment is amazing! The first time I went in March there was no seaweed, but if you take your time to do research you would know summer time the Rivera Maya has seaweed wash up upon shore. The second time I went all day everyday from dusk till dawn the employees were out there shoveling and using heavy machinery to get rid of it. The effort they put in, in the blazing sun, in full uniform, is something you should be thankful for. Nevertheless the views are still beautiful. The resort is adults only and really romantic so it seems like its geared towards couples, but there are plenty of single people. There are several different buildings and the walkway to the pool/beach is like walking through a rainforest. At night they have beautiful lights on the walkway. There are several restaurants to choose from with no reservation required. My favorite is "The Bloved". It's only offered to guest who book the "privileged package". The price difference between that and a regular room is not much of a difference so I highly recommend it. All the food is good, but Bloved is over the top. The stuffed cheese rolls, pesto pasta and picanta steak are my favorite. Bloved is situated so you have a amazing view of the beach so at night there are lights going all the way down. It's absolutely beautiful. You can pay extra for a romantic experience to dine alone on the actually beach. Privileged also gets you a reserved section of the beach with speciality chairs and hammocks. Besides Bloved my next go to is the steakhouse, although I really enjoyed all of them. As with anywhere dishes can be a hit or miss, but it's an all inclusive resort so you can order something else and the staff is happy to accommodate you. Both times the room was extremely clean, the view of the jungle on your outside balcony is exquisite. Housekeeping is on point. If you've ever been on a cruise they make those cute animals out of towels to put at the edge of the bed and make designs with the curtains (see photo). There's 24 hour room service. Both times the wait was about 45mins so plan accordingly. The second time I went there was a DJ at the pool and there is a swim up bar. The higher quality liquor like speciality whiskeys, vodka etc. are only for members of the resort, but get in good with the bartender and they'll make an exception. The hot tub is pretty large and overlooks the beach. There is a restaurant next to the outside walk up pool bar that is kind of hidden. I didn't notice it the first time, but this last time I went there and they have amazing "bar style" food. Hamburgers, hot dogs etc. During lunch they'll also have a set up by the pool with employees cooking fresh food like hamburgers and tacos. I highly recommend visiting the spa. I prefer a hot stone and with privileged you get 10% off. The massage was absolutely amazing. They have an outdoor area for you to relax while waiting. There is NOT an option to leave a tip when you pay so BRING cash to tip your masseuse after the massage. The lobby night scene is ok. The shows the dancers put on are amazing but if you're looking for more of a younger atmosphere hit up the bar outside the Mexican restaurant. This resort is on the smaller side compared to the other larger resorts, which I LOVE. It provides a more intimate experience. They do Covid tests on site, which as of right now is required to go back to the US. Just go to the front desk to schedule and it must be 72hrs or less prior to departure. I really enjoy my time here and will be back.

I took my mom here last summer and we loved it! Definitely upgrade to BLoved, it's totally worth it! The workers keeps the grounds maintained beautifully, the drinks are a little weak but tasty, and the food was good...not great, but I can't complain. We loved the variety of dinner options and the gorgeous views. Take a day and walk to Cenote Azul, it's unbelievably beautiful, the pictures don't do it justice. Shopping in Playa del Carmen was a fun day trip, too.

We had a long stay here, and the staff made it worth while. Adelitas is a must try and if you are blessed by the gods you will cross paths with Nelvia, she's the best staff member at the resort! (Also try the enchiladas de mole)

I could not recommend this place more. I have been to this resort on 3 separate occasions, and my experience is even better every single time. This resort is located on the most beautiful beach, with a phenomenal pool & bar. The resorts offers a wide variety of food choices, all of which you can't go wrong with. My favorite place to eat was Beloved. My room was amazing, always stocked with towels, drinks, and snacks, But at the end of the day, it is the staff that truly make your experience here. As an ETC member, I had a great experience with staff such as Alejandro and Karla, they truly made it their mission for me to enjoy my stay. They treat you as family; I loved getting to know members of concierge, bartenders, servers, and especially loved the entertainment staff. There are different activities held every single day by the entertainment staff that are so unique and truly make your time extremely fun. I loved beach volleyball, every event held at night by the pool, pool games/trivia, and so much more. My favorite staff member had to be Abraham; he has amazing energy, is so friendly and fun, and you can tell he truly loves what he does. I also have to give a shoutout to the others who made my time amazing such as Charlie, Diego, Tita, and Gonzalo. The entertainment staff truly provide such a fun aspect to this resort and uplift everyones energy every single day. I am already looking into when I can come back, as my time was truly amazing and I will remember it for the rest of my life.

I just arrived AND FROM THE START Arturo at the front desk, Miguel for dinner reservations and Jesus at the pool bar are the absolute best! The customer service from all three are off the charts. Five nights of luxury here I come! Arturo made sure we understood all the resort had to offer. The room we wanted was not available so he sweetened the deal. We are happy campers. Miguel made sure we wete able to reserve dinner at the restaurant of our choice. Choices were limited die to COVID-19. However. After he described what was available, we made an inormed and preferred choice. Jesus made sure our drinks were perfect. And he knew our favorites amd particulars instantly. He was friendly and had a great sense of humor. Next up, dinner. Let's see what the rest of this wonderful first day and five more days have in store.

    Iguanas all around.

Staff is wonderful. Francisco kept our room so nice, clean, and organized and our fridge fully stocked. Quetzabel and Maria were amazing at breakfast every day. The selection of items was quite large. Try the conchitas. They are the best and so fresh, made on-site. The beach was lovely and relaxing. Georgina was our beach waitress and super incredible. Adelita is the best place for dinner. Try the ceviche, fajitas, enchiladas. The Caesar salad at The Grill was amazing, as well. We walked across the street, aka highway, and caught a Collectivo (cab - white van) for $2.50 each and rode to Tulum town one day and Tulum Ruins the next. It was lovely walking around. We discovered a row of street taco vendors a block or two behind the main drag in town. We wish we had known about it. On our way back to the airport, we stopped at El Fogon for tacos in Playa del Carmen. It was so wonderful! I'd stay here again for some quiet time. It is relaxing and the grounds are kept so nice. For people talking about no oceanfront rooms, we have to remember wildlife. It's their home. We build around them. I was glad to see everyone respecting the animals and their space. They are the cutest little ones. You will have a nice time here.

Fidencio is your guy! Find him for a the best drinks on the resort. He knows how to pour a good drink and will make you something if you can't decide on your own. He's the crown jewel of the entire trip! Well done!

Two words. Retirement. Home. This place a is Debbie downer. No Dj. Drinks sucks. And food is is dog food. Cold and burnt shrimp. And freezer potatoes with jar sauce. See pictures for reference. If you just want to read a book by the pool then this place is for you. But for those who want to have a good time and eat good food then Save your money, and go else where.

They blocked the police I called from entering the property. There is now an open criminal case with the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor's Office -- file FGE/QR/TUL/DEL/4225/2026, assigned to the Specialized Prosecutor for Sexual Crimes, Tulum. That's an official case reference anyone can verify. Do not give this resort your money. The moment my girlfriend told me what the male spa staff member had done to her, I got her out of the spa and went straight to management. The manager's response: "I know him, he would never do that, I've known him for 3 years." I called 911 myself. Police arrived -- and hotel staff refused to let them through the gate. I spoke to officers through a fence while management told me police were "on the way." When I asked for the staff member's name and the manager's own name: "for privacy reasons we cannot tell you." I have that refusal on video. A front desk employee covered her name tag with her hand. Three men then came to our room who said yes when I asked if they were police -- then claimed to be "from the prosecutor's office" -- covering their badges and refusing to give names or ID numbers for two hours, while my girlfriend, the victim, was too frightened to leave the room. She never got to speak with the real officers, because this hotel turned them away. Imagine how you would feel, knowing the actual police couldn't help, we couldnt just leave because the hotel controlled the gate, and they had security waiting and following us as soon as we left our room. It was terrifying. We don't speak Spanish and were given no translation or victim support of any kind. Security followed us until checkout and wouldn't let our driver through the gate until our card was charged in full. We left the moment we could arrange transportation. Formal complaints are filed with the Quintana Roo prosecutor's office, Hyatt corporate and its ethics line, Mexican consumer and tourism authorities, and the Government of Canada. When it mattered most, this "5-star" resort protected their staff member and stonewalled the police.

While I really like this resort, there is definitely room for improvement, particularly working on better air conditioning for both public areas such as restaurants and most definitely inside the rooms/suites. Food was also inconsistent, not always excellent nor executed properly, and ranges from good to below average. **ROOM** -I stay at the penthouse on the top floor, which is a duplex with a king size bed and sitting area on the 1st floor and long stairs to the 2nd floor terrace with expansive ocean views, a jacuzzi and 2 loungers. - Mostly cold water showers (hardly ever gets hot), but great water pressure -A/C barely worked and leaked -- and the fan barely cooled our room. We definitely had some nights a bit too warm for comfort. **FOOD / RESTAURANTS** It was very warm inside the restaurants (no cold A/C felt, doors mostly open). May be uncomfortable to those not used to the very warm, humid summers in the Yucatan. It's actually best eating outside due to the refreshing ocean breeze. Buffet restaurant: -Incredibly refreshing, tiny gazpacho. Way creamier than the traditional cold soup. -Great fish ceviche, right amount of tangy bite, can tell chips are made/fried in-house -Nice salmon sushi, although rice slightly stickier than average. It was topped with a spicy mayo type of sauce, although way overboard with the green onion garnish (it overpowered the creamy spicy deliciousness of the sauce). Still ate it though :D ALUX (Mexican rest.) -Right next to the lobby entertainment area, which is lovely on piano man nights to have beautiful live music while having dinner -"BAO" de cochinita was disappointing - not a traditional sticky Asian bun; they use regular bread. Not as flavorful as cochinita I've had elsewhere. (quite bland). Pork was very tender & juicy though. Drinks -Mango margarita way too sweet. Try asking for it stronger/less juice (& tip). **YOGA** The 2ND BEST part! Outdooor covered palapa facing the ocean. You can hear and smell the salty ocean waves as you flow. Felt like being in a yoga retreat in a remote jungle palapa in Costa Rica. It was amazing! And they have soooo many yoga classes throughout the week -- usually 2 a day at a minimum and held nearly every day. **SPA** THE BEST part of this resort! Their SPA is absolutely gorgeous, with an indoor/outdoor mixed layout. When you go through your hydro circuit prior to treatments, you feel like you're deep in the jungle -- thousands of miles away from civilization. It is so quiet and the staff provide incredible massages and body wraps. I highly recommend you book at least one treatment during your stay! **ACTIVITIES / ENTERTAINMENT** This is a much quieter resort in comparison to other all-inclusives throughout the Riviera Maya. There aren't many activities happening throughout the day besides the yoga classes and some chill band playing live music at night by the lobby. Everything was pretty much done by 10 - 11 p.m. or so. They do not offer any shows or anything of that nature like many other hotels in the area, btw. **VERDICT** Akumal Bay is definitely only suitable for those who seek and relaxing retreat for their vacation. Moreover, I can only recommend it to those not expecting a 4-5* resort, as it is a bit rough around the edges. With some small reno work and training, I'm sure it'll be excellent again. Would I still come back as-is, though? Yes - for the right price :)

The Maya Beach room as a premium member was roomy and clean. We had an ocean view which was nice with a jacuzzi tub in the balcony. The bed was okay, the pillows were pretty flat. The pools and the kid pool area were great. We were able to go to all 3 pools for other locations. Caribe did have the best kids pool if your kid is older; we didn't go because our son is only 2. The beach area is very tropical with lots of palm trees and shade and lounge chairs that you can enjoy. All the workers were super nice and welcoming. Now the food isn't their strongest suit at this place. They had made a reservation prior to us arriving for all 4 nights, which was nice because we didn't have to deal with "sorry, we are full". We tried the Italian, Spanish, and hibachi. Italian was straight NO for us. It lacked flavors, the pasta was uncooked, and the pizza was whatever. The salad bar at Italian had everything warm, and we went at 7 p.m. Don't even get me started with their cannoli as dessert; just order ice cream. The hibachi we went to was whatever as well. I thought the fried rice and meat they cooked was salty, and you can order one item per each section (appetizer, main dish, & dessert). Spanish was not WOW but was for sure better than the other two. Salmon was cooked nicely, and my husband had lamb, and he said that was yummy. I did order lentil soup, and somehow they brought me garlic soup, which was a bowl of salt with water basically. Buffets: we did try two of their buffets - the main one by the Maya Beach reception and the bar and grill by the pool. The breakfast at the main was had good selection of everything for everyone. Of all 4 days we stayed there was one day where we felt the lunch buffet wasn't good. We mainly didn't like the bar and grill by the pool and felt that place just lacked a lot of food options. We did have free room service with our premium level however the menu items were not at all appetizing for us to order anything. You can't get food ordered by the pool like other resorts so if that's something you like this place lacks that's. The drinks were okay nothing amazing just like any other all inclusive resort. The premium lounge did have patron and some other bit known brand alcohol for self service. What i also noticed is that they didnt have a coffee shop on site anywhere to get good cup of coffee. They have automatic coffee machines that you can get your cappuccino and latte and stuff. Overall we enjoyed our stay due to the activities and things to do and the tropical ambiance of the resort.

We came to Barcelo Maya Caribe the last week of july with a large group. This was my 2nd time…read morestaying here and we were very disappointed in the drop off this time round. Lets start with the rooms. Rooms are outdated, lamps dont work, shower grout is cracking, they didn't provide hand towels for the bathroom and each time we asked they said they were out. On our third day, there was a huge water leak on the third floor that caused water damage on some of the rooms where they had to move one of our friends to a separate room. The TV channels were mainly Spanish with hardly any English options. Also they say the rooms fit 4 but if your going with older kids, you will be very crammed with hardly any space to move around. We also killed 5 large spiders during our stay as they would crawl into our luggage. Mini fridge was small and they never re-stocked our fridge with beers or water throughout the week. When we had came in 2019, they would restock us daily, including liquor. Appears as though those days are long gone. Now to the food, the buffets served cafeteria food, with breakfast probably being the best thing they served. Some of the better options such as the fried fish, was limited and you had to look for it. There were coffee machines to serve yourself and was disappointed that there wasn't a coffee shop on site. Similarly, the liquor being served was low quality and the bartenders were inconsistent in serving better liquor, which told me it all depended on their mood or if they thought you would tip them. You have to upgrade to a premium bracelet for better liquor but even then the liquor was still low quality. For the reserved dinners, we selected the mexican, Spanish, Japanese and French dinners. By far the best dinner was the Japanese teppanyaki with the Spanish and French restaurants being decent and having a good ambiance. However the mexican food was a huge disappointment. They were skimpy on the portions, the food came out cold, and the meals lacked flavor. When we asked the waiter about the cold food he told us it was because it was already past 9 pm, as if that's an excuse to serve us cold food. The waiter looked annoyed at us and we felt they were rushing us out of there. Considering this is Mexico, we would have expected a much better experience in the mexican restaurant, but it was a complete let down. The night we had french food, we sent our kids to have Italian. They were disappointed that they had ran out of appetizers and the food wasn't good. They were in and out within the hour which was shocking. Finally, the pools and the beach were decent and probably my favorite part of the property was the gym. The grounds are so vast that it never felt too crowded which was a positive. They also had different events and shows happening every night so that was also a positive. The bowling alley became an insurance policy for us on food and coffee whenever the dinner was bad so I do give a thumbs up to the bowling alley. Considering we came with a large group (18 to be exact) hoping for the experience we had the first time, this was a complete let down. We would never come back and would urge people to do their homework on what really matters to them before booking.
