Wonderful resort! I would put this right at or slightly below the Rosewood. The property is stunning and there is so much nature. The difference is as always the service and everything from the management to every one of the staff was exceptional. The property is slight older and there are some nits but in the bigger scheme of things, they were not a big deal.

Just beautiful location on the other side of Andaz Mayakoba. Shall we say the rich side of this enormous resort? I kid you not it's lavish lifestyle living over there. Got dressed up to have dinner at this locations that were superb! It's a real score finding this place to take a date or your loved ones.

The property is beautiful and the room is amazing. It's definitely bucket list worthy.

The staff are amazing, friendly and professional, excellent service. The location is well kept and the rooms are in good shape, if a bit dated (at least non-Ocean rooms). Here you get a feeling for the jungle, but it's not really the jungle. You will see local creatures that look like racoons, and... actual racoons. The Mayakoba cenote is a must-visit. Mayakoba is incredibly relaxing, and the villas are truly private. If you are in need of a retreat where you can get away from people, this is not a bad place to go -- if you don't mind lighting money on fire to eat and drink. I enjoyed the beach cruiser bikes provided guests, but the golf cart service was also prompt and useful. Value here is unfortunately incredibly poor. Food and beverage prices were highway robbery. We overheard a number of parties gobsmacked at the food prices; we spent a very-conservative $1700 US on food and drink for two people for one week, and we skipped a few meals as well as taking it easy on ordering drinks poolside. All the food was fine, nothing was amazing, and it was certainly not worth its price. I think the best meal we had was at the Fairmont hotel's signature restaurant, Gaia, which features shellfish and seafood flown in daily from Mexico's west coast ($250 for two people and portions incredibly small). The Fairmont also has a nicer pool than Banyan Tree, which you are allowed to visit as a Mayakoba guest (you can get their on your bicycle or via shuttle, it is quite close). I would skip visiting Mayakoba Andaz, but both Rosewood (good pork belly tlayuda, 586 pesos / $34 USD) and The Fairmont (the aforementioned Gaia and La Laguna restaurants) are worth a visit. October 2023 In-restaurant Prices: (Prices are before Mexican sales tax of 16% AND before 18-22% suggested tip) -Margarita 379 pesos / $21 USD -Fancier margarita 419 pesos / $23 USD -Pina Colada 339 pesos / $19 USD -Modelo at the beach 180 pesos / $10 USD -Khao Phad 899 pesos / $50 USD -Pad Thai 919 pesos / $51 USD (yes, fifty dollars for pad thai) -Cheeseburger 699.99 pesos / $39 USD (yes, a forty dollar cheeseburger) -Poke salmon bowl 499 pesos / $28 USD -Ice cream 299 pesos / $16 USD -Iced coffee 120 pesos / $6.50 USD -Lobby bar shrimp quesadilla 439 pesos / $24 USD -Lobby bar enmoladas 339 pesos / $19 USD -Mushroom bucatini pasta 839 pesos / $46 USD -Glass of red at Italian/Thai restaurant 379 pesos / $21 US -Chilaquiles 459 pesos / $25 USD -Huevos Rotos 559 pesos / $31 USD -Huevos Cazuela 439 pesos / $24 US (this was so bad I almost couldn't eat it) ** note that Banyan Tree lists prices in "USD" alongside their MXN prices on menus, but these numbers do not correspond to actual current exchange rates and what is actually billed in Mexican Pesos. The other thing I did not care for was that the restaurants ask you if you want "still or sparking" water, and then break out a bottle of Pelligrino or analogous, even if you get "still." This will set you back 259.99 MXN for "still", which is $14.47 USD. We saw one couple refusing to waste their money after-the-fact, having ordered a bottle of "still" and of "sparkling;" the husband stood up and chugged his bottle at the table before leaving, and the wife straight up took hers with her. We eventually learned you can request "house" water, which is free. Coming off a previous year's trip at Hyatt all-inclusive in Cancun (Zilara), I found myself wishing we had gone there instead. The last bummer about the Riviera Maya was that there are no waves in Mayakoba due to the breakwater. Another +1 for Cancun.

Title: A Delightful Stay at Banyan Tree Mayakoba with Room for Improvement Recently, I had the pleasure of staying at the Banyan Tree Mayakoba, a luxury resort situated in the heart of the Riviera Maya, Mexico. The resort offers an array of amenities and services, making it an ideal choice for a relaxing getaway. While I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, there were a few areas that could use some improvement. In this review, I will highlight the five biggest pros and cons of my experience at Banyan Tree Mayakoba. Pros: 1. Beautiful Location: The resort is nestled within the Mayakoba development, surrounded by lush mangroves, pristine beaches, and crystal-clear lagoons, making it a tropical paradise. The natural beauty of the area adds to the overall ambiance and experience. 2. Spacious Accommodations: The villas at Banyan Tree Mayakoba are incredibly spacious and well-appointed, featuring private pools, outdoor terraces, and comfortable furnishings. The attention to detail and thoughtful design of the villas create a luxurious home away from home. 3. Attentive Service: The staff at Banyan Tree Mayakoba go above and beyond to ensure guests feel welcome and cared for during their stay. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm smiles and helpful assistance. 4. Relaxing Spa: The Banyan Tree Spa offers a wide range of treatments and therapies to help guests unwind and rejuvenate. The tranquil setting and skilled therapists make for a truly indulgent experience. 5. Activities and Amenities: The resort offers a variety of activities and amenities, including kayaking, tennis, golf, and daily yoga classes. There is something for everyone to enjoy during their stay. Highlight: there is a hidden cenote within the Mayakoba complex. Worth a visit! You can bike to it with the hotel's free bike available to every room. You can also take a complimentary boat (advanced reservation required) add around man made lagoon and spot baby crocodiles, turtles, and bird nests. Cons: 1. Food Quality: While the resort offers a range of dining options, the overall quality of the food could be improved. Some dishes lacked flavor, and the presentation could be more refined. 2. Facility Updates: Although the resort is well-maintained, some areas of the property, such as the gym and public spaces, could benefit from updates and modernization. 3. Limited Dining Options: For a resort of this size, there could be more variety in the on-site dining options. More casual and budget-friendly options would be a welcome addition. 4. Inconsistent Housekeeping: While the villas were generally clean, I noticed some inconsistencies in the housekeeping services. For example, on some days, towels were not replaced or toiletries were not replenished. 5. Pricey Spa Services: While the spa experience was excellent, the cost of treatments felt quite high, especially considering the overall quality of the resort. In conclusion, Banyan Tree Mayakoba offers a delightful and relaxing experience amidst a stunning natural setting. The accommodations, service, and available activities are top-notch. However, improvements in the food quality, facility updates, and dining options would elevate the resort to an even higher standard of luxury. Despite these minor shortcomings, I would still recommend Banyan Tree Mayakoba for a peaceful and rejuvenating getaway.

Roaches in roaches on roaches. There literally may have been more roaches there than guests. True story.

Terrible food. terrible management. The guests are censor less trash (who scream at women and management does absolutely nothing about it. Don't waste your time or money. Everything about the place is a complete nightmare. I have been crying for two days about the way in which we were treated. It was almost surreal, but in the worst possible way.

Banyan Tree is one of the best resorts we have been to. The service was exceptional. The food was amazing. I really enjoyed cruising the property on the bikes wifey not so much ( lol). The privacy is unmatched here. We were told the resort was full but we barely saw anyone during the day only at dinner and there still was no crowd. We are already planning our return trip!

Absolutely five star the whole way through. Service is beyond, the grounds are lush and huge, and the beachfront restaurant is out of a magazine.

Our recent stay at Banyan Tree Mayakoba was from start to finish a perfect experience. The property is stunningly beautiful, the food exceptional and the staff, who are the star of the place, so hard working, kind and accommodating. We met so many great staff, Jorge and Gemi at the beach club worked tirelessly and cheerfully everyday taking care of our large group. I can't thank them enough. They set us up daily, literally moved heavy umbrellas to keep us out of the sun, brought endless rounds of food and drink with what seemed like no wait time at all. The service was exceptional and made our time here so enjoyable. The best part and our greatest memory from the trip was our son brought his girlfriend and proposed to her on the beach one night while we were there. This is when we met a staff member and the most beautiful soul Francesca who made their entire trip. I happened to mention the plan to someone at check in and later that day was contacted by Francesca offering ideas to honor the kids engagement. What Fran did for these kids in what was literally a couple of hours blew us away. She went to our villa and set up the most special celebration for them so when we returned they had such a beautiful surprise. I'm not talking just a bottle of champagne, I'm talking full blown personalized decorations in room after room of our villa. Our DIL to be actually cried when she saw all that Fran did. Francesca alone made their whole trip hands down. She is such an asset to Banyan Tree and they are very lucky to have her. We will always remember her fondly as she touched our family with her care, kindness and expertise. Overall, Banyan Tree is not just a vacation spot but a real, true experience that although the rooms and the grounds would be far and away enough just to go, it's the staff that make this place exceptional with the warmth and care and service they offer.

Amazing Solo Trip of Rest & Relaxation!! I cannot say enough about this property. I decided on the Banyan Tree Mayakoba (October 2019) based on the great reviews as well as what I was looking for in a solo getaway. It had everything from privacy and exclusiveness to the ability to venture out for excursions. Kudos to the HR team for hiring such amiable, professional, friendly staff focused on an exceptional customer service experience! I needed a few days to check out "mentally"... and this was totally worth it!

I just wanted to say how awesome this resort was. Nothing short of expectations, i recently returned home from 5 nights, 4 days at BTK, everything they helped planned for my lady bday went great, from the flowers, chocolate covered strawberries upon arrival, to the "in villa bbq" awesome food, great personal chef. We ate at Saffron (thai), Cello (italian), Room service & in villa BBQ. Everything was just 5's, especially during this travel pandamic (covid 19). We also did the Eco friendly boat tour throughout the property (free, daily). The staff went beyond the call of duty, We had the Serenity Pool Villa w/Living room (Villa 211) , came w/2 complimentary bikes also. Be sure to tip the staff. They work hard, every staff member i encountered i tipped. Thank you for everything. i'll definitely be returning.

Villa comes with a bicycle for each guest. Definitely a huge perk of this place.

My boyfriend and his friends have been staying at the Banyan Tree for the past for years. This year, I got to crash the guys' trip and see this resort they're always talking about. First, it is more of a couples resort, so it cracks me up that they come here to party. Now to the review- The grounds are immaculate and everyone is amazingly friendly. The Banyan tree connects to 3 other resorts, so the grounds are expansive. So many places to ride your bike, which they provide for you conveniently right outside your villa. Although, if you are riding, I suggest you limit the number of cocktails you imbibe. There is lots of iguanas during the day and you get to see bats at night. Oh, and I saw a 5.5 foot alligator by the golf course. And a coatimundi! A guy with a hawk usually walks around during breakfast and lunch, so that's also cool to see up close. Turn down service was on point. She even organized my makeup that I had left sprawled about. I felt super safe the whole time. When I would go on my morning walks alone on the nature trail, I would see a security guy on a bicycle about every ten minutes on the road. Now the downside- You would think that for around a grand a night, you would be some decent shampoo. This is not the case. I respect that the banyan tree is environmentally friendly and they have biodegradable soap, but everyone on this trip (me and 3 guys) that the shampoo and conditioner sucked. It reminded me of the cheapest dollar store brand that you can buy. So my advice, bring your own shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. Maybe even body wash. Or ride your bike over to the neighboring resort and get some of theirs. The restaurants at the Banyan Tree had amazing ambiance and decent food but exorbitant prices. My favorite cocktail was priced at $23 US. You can get a quesadilla at the bar for $18. $28 at the restaurant downstairs. And I wanted to spend some time at the spa but when I saw the prices I decided I better wait until I get back to the US. So, in conclusion, the grounds were amazing, the service was on-point, bicycles outside villas were cool, but the prices on food and spa services are off-putting.

The staff go above and beyond to cater to you. We received 2 pillow cases embroidered with our kids names as soon as we arrived to the room on the first day. Every evening with turndown service the kids were left special little gifts made locally (little wooden animals, knitted toys, etc). So many little touches were personalized - which were thoughtful and made the best gifts we could've received. The staff knew our names, were kind to our kids, and went out of their way to ensure we had a great stay. Our butler was attentive to our needs and accommodated every request. The drink/food service at the pool cabanas and the beach was great as well. The property is absolutely stunning. Of the hotels in the area, this one is by far the nicest, most private and without the typical commercial crowd. Given the location, definitely bring mosquito repellent for when you're spending time outside the room by the water. Overall, absolutely love Rosewood and will surely be returning to this location. Simply put, it felt like a dream.

First time at a Rosewood property and I left very impressed with this Mayakoba resort. Truly a…read moregreat place for relaxation and for recharging your batteries. It felt private, secluded and quiet. We booked a Rooftop Ocean View Suite, but were delighted to get upgraded to the Two Bedroom villa. A bump from 966 to 1562 square feet of space (not including the extra outside space). The welcome drinks, popsicles (for the kids) and guacamole were great and of course the dramatic boat ride to your suite is one of a kind. The suites at Rosewood Mayakoba are amazing. Even the small suites are spacious (I think their smallest room is 788 sqft). Our suite had plentiful outdoor space, its own dock to the lagoon, a private plunge pool and also a large rooftop terrace. Truly too much space for our family of four (2 adults, 2 kids), but we happily enjoyed it. Service was stellar, which I expected at a high-end hotel. My most recent vacations have been to the Caribbean, so the combination of Mexican hospitality along with the Rosewood service really made for a nice stay. Our butler stayed in contact with us via Whatsapp, but we really didn't have many requests except for booking dinner reservations and ordering more cow's milk to the room for our baby. Our kids had their own monogrammed pillowcases, that we took home. The turn-down service also left small wooden figurines (indigenous) which was a nice touch for the kids. There's definitely an extra attention to detail that's on another level from other hotels. We were able to get a bike with training wheels and also a trailer for the kids to go on short bike rides with. The kids club was very good. Lots of planned activities throughout the day and an air conditioned indoor play area. Our daughter was 3, so one of us was with her, but I think kids 4 and older can stay alone. The staff was consistent and got to know our daughters pretty quickly. There are excursions within the property like the bat cave and boat rides which is nice (instead of just staying indoors doing arts and crafts). The family pool was just okay. There's a small shallow part for toddler to play in and also a bigger deeper pool. It's well kept, but I can see how some might say it's time for a renovation (which I believe they are doing). There isn't a very good gradual entry point in the bigger pool, so I would say it's not the most kid friendly for small children (no problem for bigger kids), since there's one step and then it drops off to 4 feet. The beach also is undergoing a lot of erosion along with the sargassum. It's narrow and slightly rocky, so I feel like if you plan on playing in the sand or spend a lot of time in the water, there might be better options. However, it's still quite scenic and perfectly fine for lounging in the recliner. Food was very good (especially breakfast at Casa del Lago), but is pricey like everyone mentions. La Fondita, the tostada restaurant in El Pueblito, is one of the better and more low-key options at Rosewood. There is a consistent kids menu at all the restaurants at Rosewood. We did not get a chance to check out the restaurants at the other hotels. TL;DR - Luxurious and family friendly resort that shines with their accommodations and service. It's relaxing, but quiet and a bit sleepy (might be too quiet for some people). Food is good, but pricey. Kids club is great, but the pool is just okay without easy entry or waterslides. Beach is not best for extended playtime in sand or water. Even so, I still loved it and would definitely return.

Poolside is another area to be spoiled- by Pepe and crew. They will get you anything you want, no need to lift a finger. And the wait staff at Coral restaurant are very thorough. They seem more like personal butlers rather than waiters, taking the time to get to know their guests by name, and learning their food and drink preferences. This area is also beautiful, with a view of the ocean. And the spa is very relaxing, access to the spa facilities including the steam room, jacuzzi is complimentary with your stay. Viceroy isn't without its flaws. The small beach is barely swimable due to the coral/rocks. And though they work to remove the seaweed, if you come from May-Nov that will be somewhat of a pain ( the whole area not just here). And there is music that drifts over from the next door hotel which at times annoys. It wasn't too bad while we were here, but was noticiable. There are mosquitos and rainforest animals around, so if you're not okay with seeing agouti while eating breakfast on your patio, this isn't your place. And yes it's pricey. Nevertheless the quality, service, and beauty of this resort make up for any issues. We didn't want to leave!

The bike rides through the property were fun and there were plenty of golf carts to take us around when we didn't feel like walking. At night, the bar by the ocean was perfect for a nightcap and fresh ocean breeze. The only complaint we had was we couldn't stay longer. 10/10 we will definitely be back!

Even though Mayakoba is not an island, the creators of the resort have created the perfect retreat that keeps you feeling isolated and safe. Mayakoba has 4 hotels: The Rosewood, The Fairmont, The Banyan Tree, and the newest being the Andaz. All 4 properties can be accessed via walking, bike, shuttle, or even boat and have their own set of restaurants. The Andaz offers 4 unique restaurants: Casa Amate, Cocina Milagro, Sotavento, and Tinta del Pulpo (see individual reviews for details). Though comparing the four to each other feels like comparing apples to oranges, the experience at Sotavento could not be matched, as you're having a gourmet meal with toes in the sand adjacent to the beach. Out of the 4 properties, I truly felt the staff at the Andaz were the gold standard. They were always very accommodating, incredibly polite, and competent. If you're looking to bring home a souvenir, I would suggest looking at one of the other hotel gift shops, as the one at the Andaz was tiny and did not provide many options.

I had a couple of maintenance issues that we fixed within a day (phone and TV). The mini fridge only has Amstel Ultra. Gross. First all inclusive I've ever been to they didn't have a beer from the country in which it was located. The bathroom and rain shower were excellent. The food was very good. The 4 main restaurants say they have a dress code, but intermittently enforced. Street tacos until 1 am every day. The coffee shop is open 24 hr and had pastries and ice cream. It's good. They offer some different lunch options which change daily out near the main pool and beach. The employees are excellent and attentive, with one exception (see below). The "speakeasy" is a dance club. A lot of fun. Opens at 10:30. Great staff. The entertainment theatre is indoors. It was ok. I saw parts of two shows. The downside: for the single occupancy cost (I went alone to a wedding), the value was just not there for 720 bucks a night for one person. It's "mostly inclusive". The extras are everywhere with a staggering price tag. Beach cabana, extra, bottle of wine at dinner extra, every Restaurant had some sort of extra experience. Ribeye steak at ember, 80 bucks. There are enough beach and pool chairs for the volume of people. Of course, half of them are reserved with a towel or personal item and unoccupied like every other resort you've ever been to. I find this highly unacceptable. The beach is fairly mediocre. It's not very wide. The are not very many chairs, and it's not very fun to swim in the water there if you can find a break in the endless amount of seaweed. It's fairly rocky. It's just the way the Riviera Maya is. The coast sucks. This is the third resort I've been between Cancun and Tulum and none of them had a good beach. And the seaweed is endless, along with the army of workers and the loud tractors picking it up. The worst part was the understaffed pool bar. This is the main activity pool. We were there for an hour or two each day, it was the same problem, no bar back, only two bartenders, waiting 15 to 20 minutes to get a drink. Tipping them didn't get you any sort of faster service. They barely acknowledged your presence. They seemed genuinely unhappy, and they were really the only employees at the resort that didn't seem like they wanted to be there. So I will not go back to this place. And possibly never to a secrets again.

That special moment aside, this will probably be the nicest resort I ever stay at! We booked on points (before they hiked the points valuation up), and we couldn't believe our luck. We stayed on the Impressions side, which came with a personal butler, access to exclusive rooftops and pool and restaurant, and other added perks. SERVICE The staff here were absolutely incredible, from the swim up bartenders to the cleaning team. Just impeccable from check in to check out. FOOD Seriously, so many options so little time! We loved eating at all of the restaurants here: multiple to choose from meant we never got sick of one thing. We especially loved the Asian spot and the French fine dining one. DRINKS We had tons of fantastic cocktails here! I loved that at each bar and restaurant, there were different specialty cocktails. And the speakeasy?! So cool! POOLS The pool options here are incredible! Tons of options and plenty of room, never felt crowded. We wished the hot tubs were open later to enjoy in the evening, but understand it's a safety issue. AMENITIES Some of my favorite amenities were the room soaking tub, the snacks and desserts set out at the entrance to our building, and the entertainment options: not just the same show every night.

We stayed at the Palafito suites and eventually upgraded our room to a beachfront casita =) Palafito Jr suite. Comes with a butler and is suspended over a little Laguna. It is also the closest room to the beach (besides the beachfront casitas) . The room was nice, airy and you get a rooftop that has an outdoor shower/sun deck. The only annoying thing about this room is that the french blinds did not close all the way.. so its super hard to sleep in! The outdoor soaking tub was also kind of a let down because you have to call your butler to fill it in.. The closest restaurants to this room is aguamarina and ceviche bar =) Beachfront casita Ammmmmmazing room. You get an infinity pool on the roof top with a full size day bed annnnnnnnnd lounge chairs. The roof top is kind of private but you could sometimes see your neighbor. The room itself is huge and you get awesome bath products that smell delightful (Bulgaria bath products I think) . You get two rainfall shower heads but one of our shower heads did not work. Like the palafito rooms, the casitas come with a butler! You can also request don Julio in your room with no extra charge ( the other mini bar liquor that they have are cheap) . You get your own beach access and beach cabana where you can order food from aguamarina and the ceviche bar. We were also able to get breakfast delivered to our room from aguamarina and ate it at our deck. Our butlers samanya, sandra and Jorge were wonderful!!!! The bar staff and servers were also great!! We did not encounter anybody rude nor did anyone sell us any time shares . We booked our palafito room through costco travel which included airfare and airport transfer ( around 4k USD from sfo) annnnnnnnd we went through the hotel to upgrade to the beachfront casitas ( only around 1k USD extra charge!!) Tips: -Book during low season. The hotel normally get booked and could have 200+ people. When we came they only had 45 guests total. So safe to say my husband and I got spoooooiled. - there are beware of crcodile signs everywhere... believe it. We saw one underneath our palafito -lots of little critters around so walk around the resort and enjoy!! ( it's about a mile from our beachfront casita to the front desk) if you're lazy theres golf cart transfers . -if you book the cheap rooms you will be far away from the beach and the restaurants -if you wanna see big crocodiles, eat at ambar restaurant at night.. you can see them if you go outside the deck - please tip! Just because it says it's all inclusive. That doesnt mean you shouldn't tip. Butlers (20-30$ usd atleast) a day per butler, housekeeping ($5 each) , servers and bartenders(5$+) , golf cart transfer (5$) We were very well taken care of during this trip! We appreciated all their hard work. -food was amazing for an all inclusive resort. Ceviche bar was great but do skip the pizzas and burgers (trust me) -food at aguamarina was the best during lunch! Skip Caribbean night at aguamarina.. it was eh Ambar was great kind of like a french fusion dinner. -this resort is not a party resort. Mostly honeymooners and older couples. Great for introverts like my husband and I! Under $6k USD with flight, airport transfer room upgrades and tip Not bad!!

However, if you're in the mood for something quieter, smaller, and more intimate, then Petit Lafitte is the one for you. Focused on wellness and tranquility, this lovely little resort offers daily yoga, sound therapy, and Temazcal (traditional Mexican sweat lodge). It's really a place focused on relaxation rather than activities, and there's nothing more relaxing than a massage by the sea. You can take a dip into the pool, close to the beach. The beach itself is a little rocky, but if you walk a little further left or right, you'll find smooth sand. Staff are great! Friendly, attentive, and very helpful. The bartender is a great guy. We got a tequila shot (which ended up being like a triple shot) and he gave us several mezcal samples as well with great explanations on flavour and origin. There's also daily live music in the afternoon, which creates such a nice vibe. In the 5 days I was here, it was never super busy and truly felt like a peaceful getaway. Petit Lafitte prides itself in its little organic garden which provides a lot of the produce that guests consume. The food itself is excellent, each meal was delicious and made with fresh ingredients. The rooms are rustic and clean. My only downside is the weak wifi, which isn't too much of a concern if you're trying to disconnect.
