My daughter and her husband are currently there on their honeymoon and it is terrible, they have only one restaurant to eat all three meals at, my daughter has gotten sick two out of the three nights after eating. There is construction everywhere. they can't go to the beach because the seaweed is so bad and they have two men and a wheel barrel to remove it. Unlike every resort down the beach who has tractors to remove it. Since it is just sitting on the beach the smell is horrible and you don't even want to go outside. this is unacceptable! read more

We booked 6 nights of a very expensive vacation at Blue Diamond Hotel in Riviera Maya Mexico, expecting a relaxing and enjoyable stay. Unfortunately, the reality was completely different from what was advertised online. * Room Conditions: Our room was located up steep stairs with no elevator, surrounded by a scary jungle environment. Inside, the shower barely worked, the bathroom was rusty and broken, the bed was extremely noisy, and doors/windows were stiff and hard to open. Overall, the room was in terrible shape. * Facilities: The pool and restaurants were located very far away (about a 25-minute walk). There was only one restaurant, and the food portions were tiny. When we ordered a second dish, they brought us inedible fatty meat scraps. The bar and its facilities were rusty and poorly maintained. Overall, two very small pools and one Bar * Safety Concerns: The property felt unsafe. We even saw a crocodile and multiple alligator in the water on the hotel property -- extremely dangerous for guests. * Staff Behavior: The staff were extremely rude and unprofessional. When we complained about the conditions, instead of helping us, they got offended and suddenly told us to leave the hotel immediately without refunding our remaining unused 5 nights of stay. They gave us only 10 minutes, escorted us to pack our things under supervision, and forced us out into a dangerous area with no support. It was humiliating and frightening. This was the worst travel experience we've ever had. We felt unsafe, disrespected, and completely deceived by the misleading hotel description. While my husband and I had a wonderful time here for our honeymoon and I would love to give this resort a higher rating, we definitely left with some things to be desired. I do love the all inclusive vibe and not having to whip a credit card out everytime we ordered a drink or food. The breakfast was mediocre, but the lunch and dinner food was absolutely delicious. I think my favorite thing was the tuna steak dinner at the Ambar restaurant. Perhaps my favorite thing about this resort is that it is built into the jungle and is swarming with so much wildlive that my little animal loving self was in heaven. WE were also inpressed with the cleanliness of the rooms and thought they were beautiful. With all that said, I have to ask why don't they provide a list of included activities and their times right at check-in? I had done a lot of research so I had to ask for certain things and then they provided the information, but we did miss alot due to lack of information and we spoke to other couples throughout our week there who had no clue of what some of the included activities are. And on the included activities note, what i did find online was very misleading. Many of the activities listed were NOT included and had major fees associated with them. The other qualm we had was the lack of dining and drinking options. There used to be more options based off of old sineage and others we spoke to who had been there before, but alot of it is no longer there and online isn't updated. There are two restaurants, a restaurant bar and a pool bar. By the end of th week, we were bored with it all and felt that we had literally tried everything. As a couple in their mid-30's, we definitely would have liked something a little more upbeat, but not a crazy party resort like Margaritaville. This is a sleepy resort and if you need a little more action, I would suggest looking elsewhere. Our last issue was that after a storm one night, our closet completely flooded and ALL of my husband's clothes looked like they had been dumped in the swimming pool. While the resort did dry clean his clothing and provide us a complimentary room service that night (he only has PJ's to wear), they had the maintenance guy come on three separate occasions, so we were not even able to enjoy our night in in peace. At the end of the day, they were not ableto fix the problem so we were moved to a different unit. While it was considered an upgrade to the beach suite, we definitely missed our jungle suite. We live by the beach and can see it anytime we want, we paid for the jungle suite to see animals everymorning. We did feel that we had an entire night of our 6 night trip wasted while we sat there for hours as maintenance people came in and out. They should have moved us immediately. All in all, I wouldn't say it's a complete no for this resort, it really is beautiful. Just don't come here unless all you literally want to do is lay by the beach as there isn't much else to do. read more

This is a very pretty and serene property. The staff was lovely. But our favorite part was discovering the bartender Gustavo. He was fun, funny, and entertained our tequila and cocktail tasting. He has many drinks up his sleeve. The employees move around the resort, but you need to find him! IMO I thought the beds were pretty awful, but my friend liked them. The restaurant service was quite slow for some of our meals. I never knew if they were under staffed or just relaxed. We only had one meal that was meh. But most of our meals were delicious. But Gustavo will make you a delicious drink to forget any meh dishes. I have to mention that I love a good breakfast buffet. They only had breaky buffet on Saturday. Maybe they do Sunday as well. I enoyed the pool selections. If you want shady and quiet, you can go to the spa pool. If you want sunny and more social with a bar, they have two beach pools. Pool towels were hard to come by for the first three days. I kept asking and was told 'five minutes.' They never showed up that day. Our last two days there were towels. The towels in our room were weird too. We requested 2 bath, 2 hand, and 2 washcloths. One day we got 2 bath and 1 hand towel. I tried calling housekeeping and front desk but never got ahold of anyone. With all of this being said, I would stay at this resort again. I don't know if they were fully booked, but we never felt like it was crowded. If you want a more party, party, games at the pool and a swim up bar, you might be happier closer to Cancun. Overall, fairly good, but terrible food. Decor/Ambience - 3/5 Food - 1/5 Staff - 5/5 Value - 2/5 Decent rooms, I would not consider them to be "5 stars", but they are clean and recently renovated. Nice quiet and serene property. All-inclusive really means mostly all inclusive, only need to pay a bit extra for certain wine and for the spa. Minibar is stocked and free. A lot of free alcohol also. The staff on the property during our visit have been very polite and helpful, and we felt welcomed. Golf cart drivers who shuttled us around the property spoke good english. Staff at restaurants were polite and attenr Note that we were tipping $100 - $200 mxn ($5 - $10 usd), so your experience may vary. The only downside, sadly, is the food. The food ranges mostly from bad to completely inedible. I found that the Mexican food is actually fairly decent, but do not order anything else. Crunchy Beef Tacos with Molcajete salsa - 3.5/5 The tacos were good. The provided salsa was very bland - seemed to be just tomatoes prepared in a molcajete. The guacamole was acceptable, but not very fresh. I requested salsa picante - this was very good. Definitely made here and muy picante. The corn tortillas were fairly fresh. The meat was acceptable though a bit bland, and topped with diced onion. Served with lime. Spicy Tuna Sushi - 0/5 Completely inedible. The rice was undercooked, hard and crunchy. The raw tuna, instead of a bright vibrant red was dull and grey. The taste of the tuna itself was somewhat like canned tuna, it tasted off. I had to spit it out. I was not able to eat any of this dish. Veal Ossobucco - 1/5 The ossobucco itself was inedible. Although the sauce was somewhat flavorful, the meat was sadly very tough and chewy. I had to spit it out. Traditionally an ossobucco is a braised veal shank where the meat is very tender, and falls of the bone. This was severely undercooked. The risotto on the side tasted mostly of cream, with a very mild cheese. The risotto was unpleasant, but edible, I had a few bites. The broccoli was nicely cooked, and was the majority of my meal. Portofino Salad with gorgonzola - 1.5/5 Edible, but bland. The dish consists almost entirely of unseasoned arugla, with a very light hint of pesto consisting of sun dried tomatoes. Barely any pesto, and extremely bland. The cheese was a very mild, very soft blue cheese, noticably different from the DOP gorgonzola stated on the menu. I checked into this hotel a few hours ago. My room is over a mile from the beach. I have to call and have someone come get me in a golf cart to take me to the main building. My room was freezing. After having two maintenance people come to take a look at it, I was told that the rooms don't actually have heat. I'm sleeping with the two bathroom robes as temporary blankets. This hotel is extremely rundown and poorly organized. It was probably nice 10 years ago. If this hotel was less than $100 a night, it would be a good bargain. But it's not! There were a number of issues leading up to my early departure. Accommodations: I booked a junior suite w/ a plunge pool. The "water circuit" also included. When I arrived to the resort, it was beautiful, but there was no water in the plunge pool. I was told that the water for the pool is sold separately. It was basically gaslighting from the concierge after that. Apparently, the water for your private pool is unavailable after 5pm, so you're supposed to book the water ahead of time if you're going to be after 5pm. Not only that, but if you want to purchase water for your private pool, you must purchase an accompanying spa treatment. I ended up paying extra $130 for water in the outside bathtub/plunge pool, which I could not get refilled or cleaned after the first use. I called other hotels from playa del Carmen to Tulum and they all included water with their plunge pools/outside bathtubs. On my second to last day, the water to my room stopped completely. I arrived on Friday after 5pm, ordered water for the pool at 3pm on Saturday. By Sunday morning, there's was zero water coming from the sink or shower. The toilet didn't even flush. I immediately moved my flight up sooner and checked out that same morning. Food: Next, the resort is all-inclusive. At least that what it says on the booking website, on my confirmation receipt, and on Google. Come to find out, the room service is $20 per order. You can eat at one of the three restaurants for free but service is incredibly slow. And you need reservations for two of them. In theory, there's only one free option for unlimited food, but you have to walk a mile down the resort (or wait for a golf cart) to get it. For the room service food, I ordered a NY strip which arrived cold, and there's no way to reheat the food in the room. The next day I ordered a hamburger. It came with exactly one onion ring. A singular thin slice. One piece of lettuce, and one pickle chip. The quality of the meet was also poor, considering it costs $20. Location: For some reason, Ubers are unavailable in this area of the resort. So the resort will have to call a taxi for you. Every trip starts at $25, regardless of where you are going. I was specifically told this by the concierge. I was told that "a taxi across the street will even cost you $25." They also do not  return you to your destination. You're on your own once you get out of the resort. The beach is about one mile from the resort. Yes, you have to walk there and back. They have golf carts that ride up and down the pathway to pick you up. It's kind of trolley style. You can't plan on getting one, but it's likely you'll see one while walking. Considering the number of compounding issues in just two days, I made the best decision the leave the resort early. I was very excited to leave! read more

Disappointing experience in even trying to book a room. Spent 3 days actually trying to get someone who can offer the same rooms on the website that showed available. Overall, half terrible service. Even told to just go book it myself on the website so they could get me off the phone. Candidly, I thought they would want my money. I guess I need to find another resort for our honeymoon, this one is definitely off the list. Please note, you never actually speak to anyone who works at the property or even the company (Blue Bay) that owns the property. Questions are not truly given answers. I was given the number for Blue Bay that they have, it led to a line that is dead and cannot be answered. I just see a tremendous lack of accountability. I now appreciate businesses that take the time to oversell and explain things to me after this experience. Let alone, why I still can't book anything. I just don't know where to start. We were really looking forward to this "5 Star Luxury Boutique Resort". When we arrived at 9pm the entrance looked very promising but as our journey past the lobby began I felt this resort needs a lot of work to get it back to 5 stars. We booked a winter promotion which upgraded our room but when we checked in we were told that there were only four of that of room upgrade available and they were all taken. I asked if they had a different upgrade and was told no. The A/C in our room was as low as it could go but wish it could have been a little colder especially to sleep at night and after a long day in the sun. The most disappointing thing was the beach. It is completely covered in seaweed. We had to walk down the beach to a different resort that used a tractor to clean up the seaweed. It was much, much nicer. I know there's an issue with seaweed this year but this hotel wasn't working on cleaning the beach. The room was clean but needed repairs as seen in some of the photos below. It seemed as if they were short staffed. Really wish they had more than one server at the pool area. I didn't like having to get out of the pool to get a drink. The pool in the main bar area is just over 3 ft deep so when standing, half of your body is out of the water. They did have some amazing wildlife on property like peacocks, lemurs, crocodiles an exotic birds.We would stay at this hotel again but definitely not for the price we paid. read more

Amazing honeymoon spot! We didn't know what to expect but we were not disappointed. Grounds are beautiful, dinners are always romantic. We enjoyed some shows with dinner at Aguamarina, the main restaurant. They also have a rotating dinner menu so we never tired of the food. There is a snack and ceviche bar too--best ceviche ever, and you cannot top the views. The staff is also amazing! Misael and Augostín at the bar, Ernesto at the restaurant for dinner service. Always so friendly and the best staff! Special shout-out to Ernesto, easily the best server we've ever had. The resort is long, but there are always gold carts to give rides and we enjoyed the walks through nature. Look for the coati! They are so cute. We are so happy we came here for our honeymoon! Just checked in. So many things to be upset about at this boutique resort. The biggest concern I have is they say there is in room service. I only selected this option because the only restaurant was already booked and I didn't feel like arranging the golf cart to take me to an a la carte place on the beach. The menu was not in my room and I had to call and request it 3 times. Then I received the attached menu in which you all can verify is a breakfast menu. I need dinner. After all I paid for all inclusive. I'm not going to go into the mini bar. But all I can say is it is mini. I will never come here again. 4.5 stars My husband and I just got back from a 7 night stay at blue diamond luxury resort! This resort was absolutely amazing. We stayed at the Palafito suites and eventually upgraded our room to a beachfront casita =) Palafito Jr suite. Comes with a butler and is suspended over a little Laguna. It is also the closest room to the beach (besides the beachfront casitas) . The room was nice, airy and you get a rooftop that has an outdoor shower/sun deck. The only annoying thing about this room is that the french blinds did not close all the way.. so its super hard to sleep in! The outdoor soaking tub was also kind of a let down because you have to call your butler to fill it in.. The closest restaurants to this room is aguamarina and ceviche bar =) Beachfront casita Ammmmmmazing room. You get an infinity pool on the roof top with a full size day bed annnnnnnnnd lounge chairs. The roof top is kind of private but you could sometimes see your neighbor. The room itself is huge and you get awesome bath products that smell delightful (Bulgaria bath products I think) . You get two rainfall shower heads but one of our shower heads did not work. Like the palafito rooms, the casitas come with a butler! You can also request don Julio in your room with no extra charge ( the other mini bar liquor that they have are cheap) . You get your own beach access and beach cabana where you can order food from aguamarina and the ceviche bar. We were also able to get breakfast delivered to our room from aguamarina and ate it at our deck. Our butlers samanya, sandra and Jorge were wonderful!!!! The bar staff and servers were also great!! We did not encounter anybody rude nor did anyone sell us any time shares . We booked our palafito room through costco travel which included airfare and airport transfer ( around 4k USD from sfo) annnnnnnnd we went through the hotel to upgrade to the beachfront casitas ( only around 1k USD extra charge!!) Tips: -Book during low season. The hotel normally get booked and could have 200+ people. When we came they only had 45 guests total. So safe to say my husband and I got spoooooiled. - there are beware of crcodile signs everywhere... believe it. We saw one underneath our palafito -lots of little critters around so walk around the resort and enjoy!! ( it's about a mile from our beachfront casita to the front desk) if you're lazy theres golf cart transfers . -if you book the cheap rooms you will be far away from the beach and the restaurants -if you wanna see big crocodiles, eat at ambar restaurant at night.. you can see them if you go outside the deck - please tip! Just because it says it's all inclusive. That doesnt mean you shouldn't tip. Butlers (20-30$ usd atleast) a day per butler, housekeeping ($5 each) , servers and bartenders(5$+) , golf cart transfer (5$) We were very well taken care of during this trip! We appreciated all their hard work. -food was amazing for an all inclusive resort. Ceviche bar was great but do skip the pizzas and burgers (trust me) -food at aguamarina was the best during lunch! BLUE DIAMOND RIVIERA MAYA in Playa del Carmen was the perfect ending of my trip in Mexico. This all-inclusive boutique hotel is a beautiful sanctuary for quality rest and relaxation. I will definitely return! We stayed in the junior patio suite which was spacious and modern. You cannot hear the neighboring suites! There are also bi-level suites and beach side rooms as well. The grounds are well maintained and with just a phone call, one can have shuttle service from the room to pool or dining. The food was delicious and you couldn't help but feel in paradise when dining by the beach and watching a sunrise or sunset. The staff was friendly and helpful. Such a warm reception! Spent 6 nights at blue diamond between Christmas and New Years in 2017. It was a great resort. Not too big and not too small. The food is really quite good. It is adults only and really geared for the mature crowed and by mature I don't mean grey hair, need a walker types. I mean 20's to 60's. The dinner restaurant is pretty much fine dining. We found that the items they had on special weren't as good as their normal mains and starters. The 2nd floor restaurant by the beach is great for breakfast and lunch. The food was very solid and the drinks everywhere are nice top shelf drinks. The downstairs bar at the beach is actually the hidden gem as they do breakfast, lunch and dinner on the deck under the restaurant. And the food at the bar restaurant is actually better than the restaurant above it. There is a lead waiter named Jose David who is amazing. He was by far the best waitstaff for the entire complex. He has the bar area sorted and puts on a show. I can't say enough good things about how good of a job Jose David does. They do a bbq at night which includes lobster, scallops and fillet. Super good. If you go ask for the fire coffee. It's awesome. The spa was good. Nothing negative to say. The activities are mostly all organized through a business called dive x. We found the excursions just ok. We did a trip to tulum and the cinotes and turtle swimming. We also did a dive trip to Cozumel. The dive trip was not a dive x boat so it was not super great. I would say it was one of the lower end dive trips I have taken over the years. You are given bikes to ride around the complex but if you stay in the palafitos or beach side casitas you won't really need the bikes. The bikes by the way are pretty much pieces of shit. The beach side area is great. Very well maintained and nice comfy beds and loungers. Now for some advice. Blue diamond is billed as all inclusive and it is, but you need to give tips/gratuity to receive great service. We learned after a night or two that we should give $100/mex for breakfast/lunch and around $200 to $400 pesos for dinner. Once we figured this out the service became very very good. Tip The Beach Boys $50 pesos and they will keep coming back to get you drinks. We would defiantly recommend blue diamond. Just bring your appetite and some small notes for tips and enjoy it! read more

My girlfriend and I were looking for a place to celebrate her birthday and wanted to get away from our busy lives in Los Angeles. We came across Blue Diamond resort began to search the internet for pricing. After reviewing 4-5 travel websites, we ended up going with Costco Travel, which added a lobster dinner, a 25 minute massage and a round of golf for both of us. We love to travel and have stayed at many different resorts around the world. Our experience at Blue Diamond was perfect. Here are the top things that we loved about this resort. 1. The Staff The is amazing. Friendly. Fun. Professional. After any requests, they would always say "my pleasure" and place their hand on their heart. I thought it was nice the first couple of times, but they do it after almost every request you make. It just made the trip that much better knowing they were always looking out for our best interests, which is a wonderful feeling. 2. Boutique Feel The hotel layout is different from most mega resorts. Instead of huge towers surrounding a giant pool. The rooms and pools are quietly nestled along a path about a mile long that leads to the beach. There are golf carts going back and forth all the time that will give you a ride and also bikes you can request from the concierge. The upside is how much room you have. We didn't feel crammed into a building with 500 other guests. We had our space and quiet. 3. Quiet Speaking of quiet. This was the first time we had ever stayed at an adults only resort. We have not slept that good in a long time. Absolutely no noises while we slept. No loud guests. No crying in the distance. It was just peace and quiet... and it was perfect. 4. The Food The resort has 2.5 restaurants. One regular one by the beach, a higher end restaurant that has a dress code and a sort of snack bar near the beach as well. At first we thought this would be slim compared to the other resorts with 5+ restaurants on their property, but they did not disappoint and the food was amazing. We were there for five days and almost never ordered the same thing from the menu. The food is impeccable and delicious. 5. The Wifi This one really surprised us. We both work a lot online and needed to check in from time to time. The wifi is strong throughout the entire property which made working from laptops or phones easy when in the rooms, restaurants, pools or beaches. 6. The Rooms The rooms are large, clean and spacious. We stayed in a room overlooking the middle cenote (there are three). A cenote is a large pool of water. When we went online and saw pictures, our first through was "that place looks like a mosquito heaven". We packed mosquitos repellant, but never used a drop. The air was clear and we had few encounters with bugs on insects. A pleasant surprise. 7. The Beach / Pool The beach and pool are both clean and have modern layouts. Cabanas are available at both along with lounge chairs. The bars have every type of drink you could want and the waiters will bring them to you. The ocean water is warm and pleasant and they have people clean the beach daily so its very visually appealing. 8. The Temescal If you can, try to attend a temescal while you are there. Its a cleansing ceremony where you get into an igloo looking room that is heated like a sauna. When they close the door it gets almost pitch black and you work through some meditations and relaxations. Several people said it was difficult for them to be in the black, but we loved that it helped bring is back to earth from our busy lifestyles. 9. The Spa The Spa is separated into two areas (mens/womens) around a small pool and hot tub. In each area there is an indoor pool, showers, ice, sauna, steam room, lockers, etc. Its very nice. We had a couples massage in a separate building that was quiet and peaceful. Time always goes by fastest when you're having a massage and we would have make it longer if we had though ahead. Very enjoyable. 10. Secret Tip It's always good to have friends in the right places. When you get there, make sure to ask for and find a beautiful woman named Aracely. She works in the Marketing department and is very friendly and very funny. If you ask nicely, she can often get you VIP benefits at the SPA along with special pricing on future visits. Just tell her that Brian & Maricia sent you. She also gave us a tour of the beach front houses, which is where we will stay when we come back next time. Hope this review helps. This hotel has potential and has a zen type aura to it. It could reach a higher score if management placed effort in training to display consistent service and maintained the building, equipment and common areas. Rooms: If your expecting your room to be your palace and mirror the beautiful photos on the company website, I'm going to point out the differences here. You won't walk into a room with a well cleaned private pool with rose petals floating. Instead it will be unattended and only clean it upon request.We opted for the honeymoon package and yet this was undone. The scales in the room did not include batteries - also only added upon request. Our room had some upkeep issues with the balcony (see pics). Refrigerator well stocked but not consistently restocked upon room service. Rating solid 3 here. Service: Very spotty here. There isn't notation anywhere about tipping at this all inclusive but think otherwise! The restaurant service is good but your requests may go to no where on the beach front (out of sight out of mind). We stayed here for a few nights and during on time throughout their service was inconsistent. Either we were served meals that were not prepared the same, room was not stocked and cleaned equally, and restocking in the bathroom and coffee bar was lacking. As mentioned, we had the honeymoon package and were suppose to have arranged breakfast in our rooms and a lobster dinner. They made no effort in organizing this without being reminded more than once. A 2.75 rating. Maintenance: Although I applaud the concept this hotel provides it seriously needs to pay more attention here to be considered a 4 star. Many of the gym equipment was broken, the pool jacuzzi button was damaged, the room balcony barrier had parts missing and view to rusty roof tops. Solid 3 again. Outside grounds: Very nice. They have this long pathway which passes various villas with different layouts. Nature feel is awesome here. They have golf carts going up and down the path offering you a ride. Only issue is the path is narrow for both walkers and hold cart and you may be on alert as you walk. They do offer bicycles which is a cute concept. Rating 3.75 here. Food: Here is where they score higher. The food is delicious and fresh. They serve small portions but quality is key. Drinks are nice but made weaker than normal. We had an amazing time at the Blue Diamond Resort! PROS: All-inclusive LUXURY, adults only, butler services, beach front casita with private rooftop pool, service is ON POINT, drinks are strong (not watered down like they are at most mid-level resorts), food is delicious, entertainment is fun and interesting. CONS: pool isn't very deep (but that might be better if you're too drunk), wifi and AC weren't working in our original room and had to move to a different room. Steve's review is most accurate and I have only few points to add: When the staff heard we were here for our honeymoon they surprised us with a beautiful dessert and our bed decorated with flowers, as well as a full bath tub. Upon arrival you get a welcome drink and treat, as well as a sparkling wine bottle. The staff is adorable! The waiters and hostesses are always friendly, accommodating and do almost anything if you treat them nice and above all tip them. Lots of people don't tip and I think it's inappropriate because they deliver an excellent service and deserve a tip. Drinks at the pool bar are indeed watered down, but if you go to the Cigar Bar - a nice outside lounge with hookahs, you get the best cocktails ever! The bartender (Misael) is great! He even makes you a custom cocktail and it's delicious. What we didn't like is the sales person trying to sell us a ridiculously priced 30 year membership, which is almost worth a college education. We had said from the beginning we were not interested so they offered us a free massage and promised it would not take longer than 90 minutes and if we don't want that membership it would be all good. Nope. Don't fall for that! We spent 3 hours with the sales guys. First the sales rep (who was nice though) was late because he stopped to have tacos (!!!). Then when we told him we are not interested he brings in another guy who was pushy and borderline rude. It was almost not worth it getting the massage. Calculating the payments and tariffs we paid booking through Expedia vs. what we would pay for a membership is definitely not worth getting it. Another minor point was that room service has a charge during the hours that the restaurants are open. To be honest, it's definitely great going to eat at the restaurants. The food is supreme and the places beautiful. However an all inclusive should not charge for room service. It's also not ideal that they don't offer free transportation, which usually is included for such a high end resort. You may be better off renting a car and leave it in their parking lot than using any of the available transportation options. English TV is not available, but the room and place in general invites you to so many other nice activities that TV is the least of the worries. We got to use the spa facilities for free, had free snorkeling, temazcal and yoga with no extra charge - great plus! Make sure to do the temazcal - Edgar and Adela are great people and guide you through this prehispanic cleansing ritual with great delicacy. Luxury is in each detail. From the moment you arrive, to the moment you leave this resort, you feel catered to. We were always amazed at the uncanny ability of the staff to recall intimate details about each guest. The last time we visited the resort was a few years ago. When we sat down for our first meal, we were immediately greeted by staff who recognized us. That is not all, they addressed us by name and gave us a warm hug and welcome. This hotel is worth its weight in gold. The staff thinks of everything one would need to have in order to have a relaxing vacation free of worry. A few details that we appreciated include: house slippers and robes!, insect spray that smelled like essential oils and was quite effective, insecticide to the entire property via golf cart!, turn down service every evening (bedside lamps on, bathroom dim lights on, closet open with lights on, slippers in the closet beside one another),and so much more! I was not feeling well one particular evening and mentioned this to our server Luis. Without further notice, he brought over a medicinal drink to settle my stomach. He also took care to reduce portion size so as not to upset my stomach any more. The next day when we arrived for breakfast, we walked past Uriel who inquired how I was doing! Communication between staff is amazing. They truly care about your well-being as if you are part of the family. At lunch that day, Gabriel asked how I was progressing and told me to inquire for chicken soup at lunch (not on the menu). I did, and our waiter Dagoberto said that it was his pleasure. A few moments later, fresh chicken soup with carrots and spinach arrived! I can assure you that we have never been catered to in such a fashion. This was such a nice surprise. A few other details to mention include the greeting or salutation that one receives from every single employee on the property. The staff puts their right hand over their heart and slightly bows their head as a sign of respect to guests. This gesture is so welcoming and endearing. It is one of many fine details that makes this resort a wonder! Another small detail that we appreciated is seeing the hostesses every night. Daira was one of the happy faces we looked forward to seeing. She remembered our room number and with a big smile, walked us to our table and gently placed the napkin over our laps. She has such a pleasant presence. The wait staff and managerial staff are phenomenal. A kind mention to Prisciliano, Dagoberto, Pedro, Leo, and Luis with whom we had the most contact. A special thanks to Rogelio, Jose, and Gabriella, as well as Rosalinda, whose name is as beautiful as she is inside and out! We would like to take a moment to discuss some of the wonderful activities offered by the hotel. A special thank you to Uriel the great and Fernanda, our Chaman during the temazcal ceremony. To reiterate, we have stayed at this hotel 3 times over the years and continue to do the temazcal every time we are here. Fernanda had a beautiful way of explaining how to unite your mind and body. The purification ceremony truly enables you to quiet your thoughts; a very cumbersome task in the world in which we live. We were also informed that there is a possibility to do a special temazcal ceremony for couples or for those with chronic disease and health ailments (additional cost). This is something we did not know that the hotel offered. A few other activities include: yoga at the spa, rifle shooting, snorkeling, bike tour, archery, aqua aerobics, sushi class, wine tasting (excellent job Luis!), cocktail class (shout out to Carlos!!!), and crafts! Lastly, we took advantage of a couples massage while we were there. This was a spectacular massage. My massage therapist even braided my hair after the scalp massage! Other thoughts: Please note that despite the expansive property, carritos or golf carts circulate to take guests to and from many destinations. David and the other drivers were so attentive. They brought us to dinner and would communicate with the wait staff to determine when we would need a ride home! Unbelievable. Truly a 5 diamond experience, unlike any other. Honestly, I could go on for days about this hotel. The food is a la carte and phenomenal, the property is absolutely beautiful, and more that any one factor, the staff is truly astounding. Karina G. Overall impression poor. If you are not a timeshare owner or member of the hotel club you will be treated be treated poorly. Beware!!! If your are not a timeshare owner/hotel club member the hotel staff will allow club members/timeshare members to treat you (non club member) like dirt. Are stay was in early August 2001. It all started in the morning when the man [Employee] working in the concierge desk set up a cabana for us that was ostensibly reserved for club members only. We told [Employee] this and he said that it was okay. Undoubtedly, he did this because he wanted to sell us a hotel membership/timeshare. At various times he tried to sell us a hotel club membership during our stay. Later that day in the afternoon a club member literally and very disrespectfully told me to GET OUT OF THAT CABANA IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE SHE WANTED IT. WE WERE NOT CLUB MEMBERS AND WE ARE TO LEAVE THE CABANA TO HER. I told her we would not leave the cabana because it was given to us by [Employee]. The rude lady went to the hotel staff and the hotel stuff came to us and unceremoniously and rudely kicked us out of the cabana, even after we told them that [Employee] gave us the cabana in the first place. Much to our embarrassment, this was done in front of all the other guests in the pool/bar area. We were deeply offended. Shortly thereafter, we spoke with the supposed executive who claimed he was the general manager. His name is [Employee]. [Employee] did absolutely nothing about what happened to us, offered nothing and quite frankly had an attitude that he didn't give two sh*ts. For what is supposed to be luxury boutique hotel, this was 100% unacceptable to us. Because of the maltreatment we received form staff and the supposed executive, we told [Employee] to send us to another hotel for the last two nights of our stay. He sent us to a mosquito and ant invested hotel named [Hotel Name]. Don't go there either. Costco Travel gave use a credit for the staying in a much lower quality hotel for the last two nights of our stay. Costco Travel told us that the hotel refused to participate in providing at least part of the credit. Therefore, I say thank you to Costco Travel. You are the best. If I could give this resort 10 stars I would. Everything from the location in Playa del Carmen, to the staff, to the incredible beach - it's a pretty spectacular resort. The staff fully cater to your every need and just want to do everything in their power to make your stay a wonderful experience. This resort is mostly for couples or mature adults that just want to RELAX and CHILL! It's not a party hotel at ALL, please don't come here expecting that! The grounds are built around a lush tropical jungle over looking xenotes, peaceful river waterways and lagoons. We had a room which are the closest accommodations to the beach/pool are (other than the beach front suites) called the Palafito junior suites. I would recommend trying to get one of these rooms since all the others are about a mile walk or short golf cart ride to the main restaurants and beach/pool area. Our bellman Raul catered to our every need and did everything he could to make our stay a relaxing one. Karen Camacho and the concierge team were able to help arrange our day trip excursion to Chichen Itza (which I would only suggest doing if you are staying in Playa del Carmen for more than 5+ days - it's a very long drive) and were very helpful beforehand giving me all the information I requested. Spa treatments are a steal. We booked two blue diamond exclusive massages that they were able to do in the same room (like a couples massage) and it was pretty much 80 minutes of pure bliss and relaxation. Luis our main waiter was so funny and made this amazing flaming coffee for my husband that was to die for. In some other reviews I know a few people complained about the food but we might have only had one meal the whole time we were there that we didn't care for. Yeah it's not "gourmet" but they do their best to make it presentable, flavorful, fresh and unique. I had even requested that they make mole one night and it was amazing! Almost every meal was pretty delicious in our books. The beach and pool staff were always available to take drink orders and bring food and our beckon call. Property was great, the small number of rooms and vacancy made a nice intimate experience. Our room (patio suite with private pool and outdoor bath) was a great layout and very private, butler was great, and we were able to customize what was in the free mini bar. Only cons for the this: temperature of the pool, bath needed to be filled by butler and was told it would be cold so we never used, and can't nap on the back patio for very long as lots of wildlife. But biggest issue I had was with the comfort of the bed. But the set up, cleanliness and quality of suite was great. Overall 4 stars for suite (mainly due to bed being uncomfortable). Housekeeping does a great job of cleaning. The Spa was great. Everyone at the resort was A+, first class service, loved the people. The food was just ok, some good meals but best menu was the lunch menu's. The upgraded dinner options we tried weren't worth it. Overall the dining was just so-so. Compared to other resorts the property and staff was near the top, but would rate the dining near the middle. If you go opt for the beachfront suite. read more

I just returned from a 5 day stay at this beautiful resort yesterday. Even though everything wasn't perfect, I'm giving this place 5 Stars because it totally deserves it. I would definitely recommend this place if you are a couple looking to turn down in your own private slice of paradise. There is not much to do other than the beach (which is beautiful) & the food is just ok (you need a very sophisticated palette to enjoy it) & there isn't as many food options as other resorts but I will definitely be returning to this resort. If you are looking for a young, hip, party atmosphere, this is definitely not the place for you. This is more of an upscale, luxury experience that give you lots of privacy & downtime. -The Resort is literally in the jungle & the views are stunning! The decor is upscale & small animals roam freely around the property. -The Rooms- Every room is a luxury suite & is stocked with everything you need for a comfortable stay. We had a Junior Patio Suite which was wonderful. The decor was lovely & outdoor space was an added bonus. The room did show a little wear & tear but it was all minor. The best thing about it was the privacy. We literally heard and saw no other guests while in our room or in our outdoor space. It created such a special & intimate environment for us. We had an opportunity to see some of the other rooms & would still pick the Patio Junior Suite or Patio Suite (has a private pool) when we go back. Don't worry about the beach being a bit of a distance from the rooms. A ride is available around the clock & you never have to wait more than 2 or 3 minutes for a driver to show up. -The Staff- What can I say?!?! The staff is INCREDIBLE!! Every single person we came across was friendly, helpful & wanting to do anything possible to ensure we enjoyed our stay. No one treated us any differently because we are a lesbian couple. And, we were catered too all day everyday. Beds are uncomfortable.Air conditioning needs to be replaced. Did not get below 76. We had a flood from our bathroom ceiling I think it must of been from the air conditioner. I'm giving this place 5 stars because it deserves it. Technically, I would deduct a little off the 5-star rating for a few minor points. But - if you read my review you will be prepared on all fronts ensuring a 5-star stay for yourself. Here we go: This is a small scale (less than 130 rooms), adults-only secluded and intimate styled resort. This is not a place for 20-somethings expecting pool games or goofy drinks or loud music. This is focused around peace and quiet and couples who want to spend time relaxing. "Bros" need not apply here. The beach front property is not large. It has a modern look to it. The beach was nicest of all the properties in the area (we walked up and down - our beach was cleaner and had that awesome dock with hammocks - very picturesque). The rooms are amazing and the grounds feel private - you feel like you're in the jungle. Everyone working here is friendly and nice. The food was very good and we enjoyed it all. Let's break it down to what you want to know: BRING: - Books. This is a quiet resort. You will be relaxing at the pool or the beach all day. Do yourself a favor and leave your phone in your room safe. Read by the pool or beach. Take a nap. Take a walk. Drink, eat. Repeat. - $1s and $5s and $10s. We didn't get a lot of attention from servers at first. Tip your bartenders. Tip your servers. Tip the guy showing you your room. Believe me, word gets around - tip as soon as you arrive, and they will all now and you'll get excellent service. - Sunglasses, a hat and sunscreen. All are available in a small shop by the beach. I brought bug spray but had zero issues with bugs when I was there. - Footwear. I brought several pairs, but only needed 2; a pair to walk on the beach, and another pair to wear to dinner. For guys, look at "Sanuk" shoes. They're super comfortable, look awesome, and fit the vibe. Women - you can do sandals or flip flops. - A Google Chrome Stick. The TV is in Spanish. Except for the 2 news channels. Oh, and 2 other channels that are uh, well, you'll like them ;). Anyhow if you want to watch stuff, they have good wi-fi here and a google chrome stick combined with your phone and netflix or amazon prime will help you out. PROS: - No reservations. There are only 2 restaurants on the property, plus one snack-bar by the beach. No reservations are required, no stress. Food is excellent at both. - Bikes. I was scared about the bike situation because of what I've read here but no one stole our bikes. Each pair has the room number on it so no one should be taking "yours". They were fun to have. You can always call for a ride in a golf cart (be sure to tip). - Room was excellent! Our room was very big and the nicest I've ever stayed in! We were mid-property. Easy to bike to the beach or the spa. Our porch faced the secluded jungle / stream - so awesome. It was like facing a disney park ride! Big room, comfortable bed, tons of space. Couples shower! A separate shower on either end! Big bathroom. 1 story building so no one above us or beneath us. People were on either side, but we never heard a peep. You will love your room! - Service. Loved our waiters, loved the head waiter manager guy, loved the guys driving the golf carts. Once you start tipping, everyone loves you. - Spa. We got massages here. It costs extra but so worth it on a vacation like this. Go for the 80-minute Blue Diamond special and enjoy. CONS: Now, these are small items. I bring them up only to help you in your decision making process. They were not deal-breakers for me but should be noted. - Timeshare lady. Beware; at some point during your stay you will run into the lady in a black dress claiming she has some "very important information" for you to review. We successfully avoided her but I didn't like the idea that she was lurking about as we tried to relax. - TV in Spanish. Not much to watch here. Bring chrome stick if needed. - We did have to call room service 3 times to get more ice and diet cokes. Kind of a pain - minor issue. Again - TIP when you show up. - Mixed drinks were a bit weak; After tipping they were better, I think. My first few pina coladas were from a mix. After we had been there, they definitely improved. Wow, what a beautiful and relaxing hotel. Formerly the Mandarin Oriental. This place exudes class and opulence. This is truly a high end luxury resort. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They treated us like Royalty. We had the standard suite and we were thoroughly impressed. We had the chance to see the beach front suite with its own private roof top pool and all I have to say is double wow. Probably have to get that when we come back next time. Back to our suite, by the way, it is so private and secluded on a lagoon with our own private pool. Thank you Costco for randomly selecting an amazing hotel. I almost forgot to mention that it is an all inclusive resort which means all the food and alcohol is included at no extra charge. How can you go wrong! But wait it gets better, they have free WiFi and it actually works all around the resort including the beach. Then on top of that all the calls from your room are free, including international calls. So far we have eaten at 2 of the 3 restaurants on site and they are all pretty. Definitely not the best food but it ain't bad and it's free. On the better end of the spectrum of the 5 or so all inclusive resorts that I have been to. The staff and the free alcohol make up for the food not being 5 stars so you might not notice it. :-). We will definitely come back and stay again We will also recommend it to friends and family. The only downside if I was forced to find one is that it is adults only so we can't come back with our children. I know many people won't see that as a downside and I don't see it this time since it is only my wife and I. But I would like to bring my daughter back and how can we ever stay in place as nice as this in the same area? Today they delivered bicycles to our room for us to get around on our own as some things are a little far from each other. It's a very long and narrow resort from the front lobby going a little over a mile all the way to the beach. We cam to this resort with a group of about 40 people in May 2017 for a destination wedding. Starting with the resort itself - it was like a magical tropical escape, lush and extremely well kept, with great amenities like the pool and spa. The people working at the resort were absolutely wonderful, and went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was perfect. As for the wedding itself, there was a bit of a language barrier in trying to get the wedding planned, and the bride was very particular about exactly what she wanted, but Yadira made everything happen in the most beautiful way possible. The ceremony itself was at the spa, and the reception was at the beach. Yadira, Aracely, and the rest of the staff truly went out of their way accommodating last minute changes and constantly checking to make sure everything was going smoothly. I would definitely recommend this resort to a couple looking for a romantic escape, or a group of friends looking to have a great time. The 40-ish of us certainly wreaked some havoc and the staff kept smiling and kept the liquor flowing. We had a truly wonderful experience and will definitely be back again! read more

Where to begin. Major RIP OFF. Operating at less than 20 percent occupancy FOR A REASON. Pics a complete scam and ten years old. For all inclusive the only benefit was a room, a beach, a pool and NOTHING ELSE. Everything else (spa hydrotherapy), bars, restaurant, classes, CLOSED. Not 5 star and very far from luxury. Zero snacks so be prepared to pay a $20.00 delivery fee for room service. Cafe, lucky to locate A mini muffin. Paid extra for private dumpy transfer that could not get out of first gear. OMG. Property has so much potential but it is struggling and not fair to charge top dollar and deceive travelers and think they can get away with false advertising. The huge pile of sargassum seaweed dumped aside the restaurant, the large delapidated dock, the fragile and dangerous landing and slimey stairs for a slimey cenote swim was my absolute LAST STRAW. Please beware negative reviews are 100 percent accurate , excellant reviews have been "placed" by management. read more

We got upgraded for free to the bungalow which was an extra $250 a night thanks to their partnership with Expedia's VIP service. They let you ride bikes around (it's a very big hotel). "Honeymoon hotel of hell" Firstly, I will prefix this by saying that my husband and I have travelled extensively for work and leisure and have stayed in such a diverse mix of accomodation including budget (2-3 stars) in places all over the world (US, UK, Spain, France, Italy) and luxury 4-5 star resorts (Hawaii, India, Bali, Fiji, Sri Lanka). We've had great experiences in all the above places. We have come to know what to expect with each type of lodging I.e - very minimal service and amenities in a motel/2-3 star hotel to reflect the small price paid to stay there versus luxury accomodation where we have come to expect an enjoyable experience or at the very least, the absolute basics that come with a 4-5 star hotel. Our experience at Blue Diamond 'luxury' resort goes down as our worst holiday in our 8 years travelling together, which is disappointing, mostly because it was our honeymoon. I think it's important to mention that we did not pay for a beach front casita and as a result were treated as second-rate guests the entire time and felt entirely forgotten about. There were a mountain of incidents that occurred during our time at Blue Diamond as the list grew longer, it added to the frustration that we had made a big mistake staying here and may as well have saved our money and booked a 3 star hotel in tulum (which by the way, we went to for the day and had exceptional food, service and were blown away by how incredible the staff were). We researched it, this place was at least HALF what we paid). To capture some of what we experience: Staff: - Absolutely horrific excuse for hospitality staff. I will be forgiving in saying that they possibly get paid very little by the blue bay hotel group but they were rude, cold, condescending when approached and asked for something and unhelpful in every way. On top of this they NEVER actually followed through with any of our requests, not one. It was almost laughable. * Airport transfer BOTH ways, neither showed up, both were booked days in advance. When questioned they said they 'just hadn't booked it' and they weren't sure why. * Laundry was put outside our room and we called to have it collected and it was still not picked up 8 hours later. Arrived back 2 days later with several items missing. * We had zero communication from anyone the entire time. There was absolutely no effort made to maximise our experience by letting us know what was happening around the resort. They did the absolute bare minimum and sometimes not even that. This was a special occasion for us and we saw a huge number of guests receive 'special occasion' items such as speciality cocktails, honeymoon sash on the door, rose petals on their table. We also walked into the ceviche bar for dinner one night and were turned away and told it was a chefs table BBQ and we needed an advance reservation, we knew nothing about it but it seems a lot of the other guests did. When we mentioned to staff it was our honeymoon they often looked at us with disbelief, it was then we realised that they probably thought we were lying about occasion. When booking, we read about the complimentary honeymoon package available to all guests and requested it before we arrived. We received nothing of any kind, no one even once congratulated us on our recent nuptials. * With all of this in mind, we expressed MULTIPLE TIMES during our 5 night stay that we were not having a good time and that we thought that service was terrible, as early as half way into Day 2. Nothing was done in an attempt to apologise or make amends, in fact we were quite often cut off mid-sentence in a very condescending way with something along the lines "let ME TELL YOU miss ...". Appalling behaviour. A manager on duty even had the nerve to say to us "bad comments were good for them" however it appears they do very little with them in an attempt to improve. * We thought we would get our chance during the check out process but not surprisingly we were not asked ONCE how our experience was. In fact we were left waiting on the driveway without a transfer to the airport and once we finally booked our own, and we were running late with the risk of missing our flight, they refused to let us out the gate as they forgot we had already checked out. Absolutely shocking from a luxury boutique hotel. The women on the front desk are sour and cold and don't do anything except sit there and attempt to look switched on. * The waitstaff. Wow, on most occasions, we would take a seat at a table and NO ONE would come over. There are not enough words to describe how awesome this place is. We originally had booked a week at the Hilton Playa Del Carmen and after some research, we discovered that they were undergoing some construction so we pivoted and found this resort. What a wonderful decision that was. Walking into the lobby was an amazing experience and every person we met was insanely nice. Have to give a huge shoutout to Osu, who drove my boyfriend and I and the other couple we were traveling with to our rooms and every time we saw him following always was a great conversationalist and had a big smile. Our room was beautiful, spacious and private. We had the privilege to see a ton of local animals right on our patio so take all the signs about them seriously. Any time we called for a golf cart to go on the resort it was prompt and anything we needed was taken care of immediately. It makes sense why the resort has such great reviews. Normally, I feel as though all inclusive resorts can have mediocre buffet food. That is not the case here- all meals are a la carte and phenomenal. We went to Ambar twice because we were blown away with the food there. Don't hold back on getting soups and salads to start- some of the best I've ever had. Food, especially sea food, was fresh and delicious. I still dream of some of the food we had. Additionally want to give a massive shoutout to Pedro and Manual. Those two were a huge highlight of our trip and we all were sad saying goodbye to them. They always looked out for us, were a true pleasure to be around, and had impeccable service. During a rainstorm, Manual helped us weather proof a day bed because we had decided to hang out and hope the weather was quick to come and go. Pedro rememberedour breakfast orders every morning and always had drinks flowing. Even though this place is all inclusive, you should definitely tip. These two are just an example of the phenomenal service and deserve every penny. The beach was beautiful, although admittedly we spent all our time at the pool. Next time I wish we utilized some of the included trips that come with booking at the resort such as the snorkeling! We will 100% be back. If management reads this- I have a question I have been dying to have answered but didn't know how... what is the air freshener scent/brand you use in the bathrooms and the bedrooms?
