I have been going back and forth between give a review or not but I think people should know the practice of this business before hand. Like many people here, I got a mail from Catalyst stating that they can beat the offer I got from other lender for my refinance application with a very alluring number so I called to get more details only to be tremendously disappointed over the course because: - They can't even honor the rate they stated in the mail (1 minus point) - They said they could match the rate from other lender with lower closing close and asked me to send some documents over by replying back to the email that they would send me...never happened (1 minus point) - Working in IT it's a piece of cake for me to find their email address myself so I contacted them and eventually passed the documents over only to find out later in loan estimation that their costing close was 4 TIMES HIGHER than other lender (1 minus point) - I pointed that out so they promised me to fix it only to come back slamming other lender and asked me to go forward with them claiming to be "Extremely honest, reputable and reliable" (2 minus point) I absolute hate it when someone can't perform and try to avert their incompetent by trashing other people. Though I like the fact that this broker doesn't use phone banks to prospect, my experience with Catalyst was comically bad. The rep I corresponded with requested an insane amount of detail. I told him since I was only using Catalyst as a second option to check the quality of my first offer, I was dropping out of the process because I didn't have time to track down everything he was requesting. Suddenly they realized the documentation I'd already provided was enough. They came back with this insanely crappy offer, so I sent back a laugh emoji. My rep just wrote back "shrug emoji," which was funny but also shows how little they care about wasting your time. read more

Honestly, I don't know how I got in touch originally with Matt, but I asked him to give me his best offer when I was shopping rates for a refinance on my mortgage. I didn't provide him with the loan details that I was about to go with, and he ended up coming in with much lower of a price (with the same interest rate)! Was referred by my Brother Arthur J Testani, to Matt Matsuda. From minute one, I felt very comfortable with Matt's ability to get my loan done, and understand what I needed to get done. His assistant, Krista Meredith, kept me informed anytime there was anything needed on my part. What made this difficult was we started this loan process, then Covid 19 hit. Matt plugged into, and continued to push my loan through. Difficulty number 2, is that it is a VA Loan, and a lot of information wasn't readily available. If I could give Duc-Hanh 10 stars on here I would do it. She is a very creative loan officer who took on my loan when other loan officers said no and that it was not possible. When she sent me a text to refinance my property I was very discourage and told her I did not think it was possible because of the rejections. She told me to give her a chance and she made it happened. She kept me inform through every part of the loan with a lot of patience and diligent. She guided me through the whole process and made this easy and stress free for me. Called again and left a message with office staff. Two weeks later....no return calls. My wife and I refinanced last year so we know what the process was like and we decided to do it again because the rates are fantastic. We worked with a gentleman by the name of Joe and he did an awesome job. One thing that impressed me with him is that he explained to us in detail and in simplistic terms, where we can understand, the whole process step by step. Leaving nothing out. That's important to us as this is a huge step. We had a couple of bumps in the road that Joe was able to easily navigate around. In the end we ended up with a lower interest rate, a lower monthly payment, and after working his magic, Joe was able to get us quite a bit more money back than we were expecting. I should also mention that it was very easy to get a hold of Joe and if I left a message he called back in a timely fashion. Also, if you refinance before, you know that that's important. ReFi Experience: I had been using the same finance company for many years (maybe I feared exploring new options or I thought I had it good cause I kept my loyalty to 1 company). I was in the process of refinancing when I received a call from Phil Edwards from Catalyst. We looked at what my current mortgage company was offering and by the time we finished I was convinced I was doing business with the wrong company (at some point I was truly disappointed that my former mortgage company took full advantage of not disclosing all my options). I received a letter from Catalyst saying they could beat my current refinance and was compelled to call. I called during business hours and my call went to voicemail. The following day I received a voicemail from Paige. I promptly returned her call and left another voicemail for Paige requesting a call back. I have since left *another* voicemail for Paige explaining the windows I am free to chat. I have also called the general line another time and no one ever answers - always to voicemail. I have not heard back from this company, and this was two weeks ago. I am not sure if they are still in business or they are just unable to return calls and provide what they promise in their mailers. Very disappointing. read more

They were honest, upfront, accommodating to our time and needs and hands down the best we could have worked with! There were no hidden costs or fees, in fact it cost us NOTHING to refi our home for a great rate at 15 years and we still pay less each month for our mortgage now. This company is VERY SLOW and gives DAMAGING advise to applicants regarding refinancing a home loan.

Just say "NO" to Catalyst. My husband and I worked with them for nearly a year while we were searching for our first home. Initially, I built what I thought was a good rapport and good working relationship with the President/CEO, Brandon Haefele. It did not end well. When we finally got into contract (30 day escrow) on a home, Catalyst notified me that my middle credit score had fallen out of qualification range (my credit score took at 60+ point hit!) thanks to an erroneous late payment reporting from one of my credit card companies. Catalyst informed me that I would need a letter from the credit card company stating that the late payment was reported in error so they could request a rescore. Our loan officer, Erica Connors, sent me a long email discussing the various plans available to us. Plan A was to obtain a letter from the credit card company admitting their error so that Catalyst could order a rescore and Plan B was to do a pay down of some of our debt and then request a rescore. If that was not sufficient to bring my middle score back up to approval range, then our last option was to ask my husband's mom to co-sign on the loan with us. Erica advised me upfront that we may need to request an extension of our closing date depending on the time it took for the rescore to occur. But at no point did she ever tell me that Catalyst would not be able to close on our loan nor that it did not want to move forward with us due to this credit issue. After tons of frustration, anxiety and stress, being on the phone for days with the credit card company, and talking to almost a dozen different people, I was able to obtain the letter needed for the rescore within 2 days. I gave that letter to Erica on January 14. She stated that the rescore could take 5-7 business days so worst case scenario was that it would be back on January 25. Come January 20, Catalyst had not yet obtained the rescore. Of course I was concerned, but we were still within the January 25 timeframe outlined in Erica's email so I was not yet totally freaked out. But this is where things go south quickly. Although I had been communicating with Erica consistently by email, text, and phone (and, again, at no point did she indicate to me that Catalyst thought it best to back out as our lender), she contacted our AGENT to let her know that Catalyst was backing out because they had not received the rescore as soon as they had hoped and were getting pressure from the listing agent. I was livid. After all of the back and forth with her, Erica never once told me that Catalyst would not be able to close on our loan. Not only was I offended by her unprofessionalism, I was completely taken aback by her failure to be forthcoming and direct with me. We had many of conversation where I was frustrated with the process and she would say that she was always going to tell me the worst case scenario and not just what I wanted to hear, which I completely respected about her. I am not sure why that changed. I understand that Catalyst is a business and neither Brandon nor Erica nor anyone else at Catalyst had any obligation to stick with us once my credit score dropped out of qualification range. However, this is something that they should have told my husband and I, not our AGENT. And upfront, not 10-12 days into our contract. Again, at no point did Erica advise me that Catalyst was not comfortable moving forward with us. Instead, she explicitly and consistently stated that we had several plans at our disposal to keep things moving forward. And, most importantly, the fact is that Catalyst knew very early on that if my rescore was not completed by January 20, they would no longer be willing to move forward. They just failed to tell us, the borrowers, this fact at the outset. Why not just explain that to me in this extensive "plan of action" email that I was sent? Its simple: tell the borrower "if x doesn't happen by y date, we will not/cannot move forward with your loan." Then I would have searched for another lender very early on in the contract and saved myself, my husband and my kids the stress of dealing with the games that Catalyst played with us. What was even the point of giving us a Plan B and the option of the co-signer? We will never know. Luckily during all of this turmoil, when I explained what was going on to our good friends, they gave us the name of their lender. The new lender was about his business and was upfront with my husband and I every step of the way, not just part of the way. He got my rescore done in 48 hours (vs. 5-7 days), took over our contract 12 days in, and got us closed 19 days later. In the end, thank God, it all worked out for my family, NO THANKS to Catalyst. We are happy to recommend our lender to our colleagues, friends, family and any Yelp users who are looking for a mortgage broker that, simply put, gets shit done. We are also very comfortable advising them to stay away from Catalyst. read more
