I wanted to give a Shout out to Key Largo Catamaran and Boatyard, There are new owners as the old ones were No Bueno, The new Owner Ricardo is a Great guy, he hauled us on incredibly short notice and made every effort to accommodate us when we had an issue and needed to be pulled back up after splashing to repair something I missed. They are a Catamaran friendly yard, can fit a 30' Beam in their Brand new 80 Ton lift. DIY yards are hard to find and especially ones that can lift large cats for a very reasonable rate in South Florida!!!! (Even though weare a trawler we know what it's like finding a cat friendly yard). read more

They were terrible!! They never communicated costs as the process progressed. We found blue tape that was painted over on our bottom. Bare spots where the blocks were and zincs were installed over the prop speed. Too much to list!!!! STAY AWAY!! read more

I have only positive things to say about Sam(the owner), his crew and our experience at both Catamaran Boat Yard and the Marina/RV Park he owns next store. Sam was absolutely accommodating, upfront, and very customer service focused. We stayed in the marina on our boat for 5 days getting it ready to be hauled out and stored in the yard. Sam checked with us everyday. He gave us great advice and even came on board to help us move our boat to the yard through a very narrow, shallow channel. We pull 5 so that would have been challenging given the conditions and depth without Sam's help. His crew did a great job hauling out and getting our boat on the stands. Ray even called us the next day to let us know All was well, the power was on and the boat is good. Sam is up front when speaking about the boat yard and uses the words like "primitive and rustic"This is true-I have seen reviews saying no frills boat yard and these are all good descriptions but not indicative of the service and Care we received. Only yard in the area that could handle my 21' beam. Sam, the owner walked me through the entrance on the phone. Made a difficult approach easy. Efficient, knowledgeable crew on hand to get into the yard and blocked. Yes it's primitive, but clean. Costs were provided up front, and matched the bill at the end, no surprises. Really inexpensive, my hotel costs more in total. Really made fixing my raw water intake easy and simple. Sam dropped by daily and was focused on making sure my stay was as trouble free as possible. Pedestal 30-50 amp service and fresh water were available. Live aboard while fixing is not an issue. Gated yard, very secure, and no swarming, biting bugs. Great experience. read more

Please beware, the owner is only trying to get your boat into his yard so he can charge you fees. He claims to have staff that has expertise in every field. However they're way too busy to work on your boat. They don't have the skills that the owner claims that they have. read more

Avoid this place. They seem fairly professional when you communicate with them on the way in but once they have your boat they're going to try to overcharge you in any and every way possible. All of the locals in the area will warn you to steer clear, really any other option would be better. Even a casual google search turns up numerous horror stories. If you have a nice boat and expect at least some level of security, don't leave your boat here for even a minute. THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE A GATE! We stored our boat here in starting in May, 2013. At that time they had a security gate and said they would be doing upgrades and installing cameras. Evidently they didn't do the camera "upgrade" and actually took down the security gate. Currently anyone can pull in and roam the yard 24/7. A week ago, before I knew about these security changes, someone stole my lower units, some electronics, and damaged the cowling on one motor. We bought a sailboat that was stored at Boats and Tires in 2007, and hired a trucker to haul the new boat up from Florida... The Monday before the weekend we were supposed to go down to coordinate the move, Sam Stoia of Boats and Tires called to go over the numbers for unstepping our mast. He wants to get started "disconnecting all the wires", etc. I told him we'd do that ourselves, we just really needed him to unstep the mast. Well, his insurance has changed, he says, and we can't work on the boat ourselves any more. And no, he doesn't have new yard rules in writing. And no, he can't fax us a copy of his insurance. "Just bring $2000 in cash and that should cover it"... In case you don't know, dropping a mast usually costs $100-200. My wife called the next day to set up a work order - now Sam says his guys have to take down the solar panels, and we should "just bring $3000 in cash and we'll be fine." Sam, of course, treats Frankie like she knows absolutely nothing about boats, and our rig is so complicated, it'll take 2 guys 2 days to drop the mast, etc. etc. By the end of this call, Frankie had steam coming out of her ears. But our trucker is going to Florida on Friday, so we have him send us the work order. The work order shows up the next day. On it - "Prep boat for transport - time and materials - labor at $68 per man-hour, crane time at $150/hour" No estimates, no limits. Now with some yards, that'd be just fine - but Sam had previously tried to charge us for 25 hours of welding on a job that his welder had estimated at 2-4 hours. So Frankie asked for an estimate, and Sam blew his top. The next day, I called Sam, and he gave me a long speech about how complicated it is to drop a mast - our rig is so complicated, etc. etc. Whatever. He says "Just bring $4000.00 cash and you'll leave with change in your pocket." That evening, he emails our trucking company to tell them that we refused to sign a work order. Our trucking company calls the next day ready to pull out. We quick get on the phone to Sam, fax the work order again, call the trucking company - but by 11AM, they've had enough. They don't trust that Sam will release our boat, and they pull out. So we're left flying to Florida with no trucking company. When we got there, we called Sam to see what his current take is. Now he wants a $3000 cash "deposit" before he starts work, and then we can work out the additional bill once the work is finished - but the additional charges "will probably be less than $4000.00." Time for Plan B. So we hired a boat transporter with a reputation as a "fixer". The fixer went to the yard in person, with a truck, our letter of permission, cut the lock off our container and started loading our equipment up. Sam the Crook freaked out and was running around like a mad chihuahua. Then Sam apparently went into his office and checked up on who our guy was and came back out with a whole new more compliant attitude. Our transporter planned on taking the boat, too, but THE CRANE WAS BROKEN. The crane that Sam was charging us $150 an hour to use. It's sitting next to our boat broken. Our transporter told Sam exactly what was and was not acceptable as far as work still to be done to splash the boat for tow to Fort Lauderdale, and that he had to have the crane ready in time to move our boat the following Tuesday. We paid the insane yard bill, to the tune of $3600 or so (he never did drop the mast, we had to hire someone else to do that), and got our equipment and boat out of there. Bottom line is, by holding our boat hostage, Sam Stoia of Boats and Tires extorted several thousand dollars from us. DO NOT EVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS MAN. He is a crook, plain and simple. read more

Just left here. Good people. Painted bottom of my CAT - did a GREAT job... no complaints, except the 30 knot winds when I left, not their problem. Prices are less than expected. BTW, my CAT is 25.8ft beam, 46ft long... if you're wider than that owner said can haul out with crane... that would be something to watch!! Professional and friendly. Last month we hauled our 45' leopard catamaran at Catamaran Boatyard and had a great experience. The staff was very professional and helpful. Sam was upfront beforehand and clear about all billing and payment. Everything they did we knew costs beforehand and any changes were discussed. We all planned properly and we're aware of the plan daily. Communication on both sides is very important. There were no surprises when we paid the bill. It is a bit shallow getting through the channel, we draw 4'6", but we called as we were coming in and Sam came out and guided us in over the phone. Go in at top of the tide and use proper tide station info. The manager, Tino, was extremely helpful about the area and any questions we had. They turned a usually unpleasant job into a surprisingly pleasant and quick task. I would recommend them anytime. We will definitely return the next time we have to haul-out! read more
