Park Signage

I don't live in Foster City, I visit relatives there. Along my route is this nice park with plenty of open space. During my visits, I sometimes think how fortunate we are that the developers of this planned community set aside land for parks like these. T. Jack Foster and his family get credit for planning Foster City. They could of put more homes there, but they didn't. I think the park is beautiful and spacious. It has a well kept soccer field, playground and walking path.

Boy compared to what I grew up with, these Foster City parks are where its at to play tennis. To give some background, I have played tennis on courts with cracks, torn nets and blown out bulbs. All of the Foster City parks seem to not have these kinds of problems. Everything appears to be checked and kept up to standard. My doubles partner has said that I have become more boujee every since I started playing in Foster City. Surrounding the two tennis courts there is a beach volleyball area. Sometimes sand creeps up onto the tennis courts due to the wind. Adjacent to the tennis courts is one full court for basketball with lights also! I have never seen this before. There is a little playground next to the basketball court. Lastly, there is a huge soccer field that always seems to have games going on. What I think is crazy is that the Foster City lagoons/canals are right there. I just always wondered what would happen if a soccer ball gets kicked into the water and/or how often. Back to the tennis courts, my only gripe is that typically there is a warning light to tell you when to hit the light button. For whatever reason - the bulb is probably blown - we didn't get the warning and the lights turned off on us. Therefore, to solve this solution, my doubles partner and I hit the button ever 30-45 minutes, sooner than later to be safe. The picture I added shows when the lights went out on us, although it does look pretty. This is my go to court. The only other court I really enjoy playing on is on Edgewater, but this court has league play on Tuesdays and Thursdays which can be a pain to plan.

Catamaran Park, located on the Northwest corner of Shell Blvd. & Catamaran St., has recently undergone such a major makeover (completed in June, 2016) that it is almost an entirely new park so I thought it was time for an update. Remember that huge regulation size soccer field? https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/catamaran-park-san-mateo?select=oNAeF34KIxhz_vIpSbzmtw It's now all astroturf (or some other synthetic substance), but it is still occupied almost night and day by people young and old playing soccer games or practicing soccer drills. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/catamaran-park-san-mateo?select=r4qWxCRZhTxiunzBx2SJeQ And there is a track for those who wish to run or walk it https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/catamaran-park-san-mateo?select=VAjCeZAdYK7uqCvB1rgfRQ And that playground? https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/catamaran-park-san-mateo?select=nX1oICp_FmOLGTY2W1B4Xw Whole new ballgame now, new spongy surface to protect kids from falls, updated swings that accommodate both children and those with physical challenges, and all new play structures. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/catamaran-park-san-mateo?select=5Lr4PuRrBI9JcG-JI_E34g https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/catamaran-park-san-mateo?select=JTjlVI8pnOaph6ovA9SLDw The playground area is now surrounded by a metal fence with a gate which allows the parents to relax a little while watching their kids play on the equipment since now their little darlings can't accidentally wander away towards the lake. There are two picnic tables inside the fenced off area where parents can sit and watch their children. There are six picnic tables in the area near the playground. They are grouped into pairs, but there are no barbecue grills near them. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/catamaran-park-san-mateo?select=SPNIVXUZHmlrvRwGGu1LOQ At the Southeastern corner of the park, there are two tennis courts https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/catamaran-park-san-mateo?select=oNk-qoyjaB2mVzb3pQhQNw , a beach volleyball court, and public restrooms https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/catamaran-park-san-mateo?select=OhLtYH0jT90WIgrB2wQSLg The Northern edge of the park has a wide paved concrete walkway that hugs the edge of the lake from the Shell Blvd overpass almost all the way to Lido Isle. There are 8 benches spaced along this walk grouped in pairs for tired dog walkers and others to enjoy a brief rest along the way. The Lake itself, while not technically part of the park, is certainly a major attraction as you can see Canada geese, seagulls, ducks, and even terns floating on the surface or circling high above. Windsurfers, kayaks, sailboats, even the occasional crew or outrigger boats pass by (though there is no place to actually put a boat in at this park. The park is very dog friendly, as long as they are kept on the leash. There are even two stations where one can get free bags to scoop their poop, one at each end of the park https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/catamaran-park-san-mateo?select=-B5-9PIWKW2gHt1M6sk1wA This is quite an enjoyable little 5.8 acre park; a lovely oasis in the midst of the Bay Area commercial sprawl. It makes a lovely view from our window when we visit!

Found my go to spot for outdoor basketball. One full court with beautiful backdrop. Nice kids park, full soccer field, running track and volley ball track! Plenty of free street parking and clean bathroom. What's not to love! Will be back over and over

Ask the Community - Catamaran Park

Is there picnic tables/bbq grill by the park/b-ball court that you don't have to rent? Is it first come first served?

There was a lot of parking when we went on a Saturday afternoon. They had a few parking lots scattered in the area. There are a lot of picnic areas that you can reserve for the BBQ grills. There were plenty of bathrooms scattered throughout the picnic areas. The one I used was relatively clean and had plenty of toilet paper. They have a lot of trails here where you can bike or walk. You can watch the planes go in and out of the airport above you! There are also a lot of birds hanging out in and by water if you want to bird watch. I was hoping to catch some sea lions but I guess they weren't around. There is unfortunately a lot of powerlines in the area that would spoil an otherwise nice view but what can you do. I also saw there was a yacht club by the water! I saw you could rent the facilities for parties (not sure if you had to be a member or not).

$6 for parking and you get access to the entire recreation area…read more Lots of families posted up for their parties and gatherings here, so keep this in mind that some of the lots will be full. My most favorite part of Coyote Point Recreation Area is the CuriOdyssey, which you can see my review for separately. Although this is a beach, it's unlike any beach that I've seen in SoCal, at least in my area. Pretty green, murky, and muddy, I wouldn't say it's the most ideal to go into, especially if you're not going to immediately shower afterwards. I don't think I saw people in the water either, even with it being June, but the breeze and cooler Bay Area weather kept everything nice and mild. Most people were flying kites or just going on walks. There are rentals for wind surfing and there were a couple people suited up for that. I heard there was a cosplay gathering here and it made many a cosplayer's outfit green though...There are playgrounds for the kids, a good amount of trees, a couple trails, a marina for the boats docked there, and some monthly/seasonal community events as well. I don't think I'd normally visit this area if it weren't for the CuriOdyssey, but it's not bad when I am there.
