Awesome park. One of my kids favorites. There are basketball hoops, a skate park, kids swings as well as baby swings. Lots of stuff to climb on and slides for all ages. There is also a rope bridge that is really neat. It is a perfect park for birthday parties, events, or just to take the kids to play. After our next door neighbors told us about this park being quiet in the morning, I swung by at 730am before heading to the San Mateo Farmer's Market this past Saturday. The park is between the tennis courts and the basketball court, so it's closer to park on 28th Ave instead of turning into the parking lot (although, to be fair, riding back down to the parking lot along a curvy, gradually sloping downward foot path and then a large empty parking lot was fun). The skate park itself is pretty small. There are a few ramps and steps, but no bowl. It's good for beginners to practice going beyond pushing around on flat ground. I practiced "dropping in" a few times from the top of the ramp, which is not too long or steep (it's still terrifying when you first start doing it). It's also a good place to learn how to shift your weight around when rolling up to a ramp and then going back down. Will probably be back every few weeks and will probably bring the kids at some point as well. read more

An interesting park for sure. It's not the largest, but also not the smallest. Some of the park activities seem for older kids, and I even went on some myself and felt my old age creeping up on me. Still, my daughter had fun. If you're in the area and want a good spot to take your kids, then this will do it. read more

I mean, you have nice parks and then you have Beresford Park that seems to have a small skatepark, tennis courts, basketball courts, fancy jungle gym that makes you want to be a kid again... seriously, what can't you do here? No complaints. There's parking lots around the park and street parking available, as well. read more

This is one of my favorite parks in the area. We love the skate park, especially. My son is a toddler and the general demographics of skate park users tend to skew younger. The older kids and adults who go are really sweet and kind (unlike the skate park next to Magical Bridges where it's a bit of a rougher crew). The playground can get crowded, but we usually go on a weekday around 4:30-5pm and it's not bad at all. The design of the playground is so unique. My son should probably play on the structure for 5 and under, but he prefers the larger structures. There are lots of gaps, so if your young one is like mine, definitely helpful to keep eyes on them. read more

Such a great clean park! I've seen this park a lot on Ig and my kiddos and I had to check it out. We are located in the South Bay so we had to drive over 30 mins to get here. There is plenty of street parking and they also have a small parking lot close to the school that is near by. A huge lawn area for kids and dogs to run around. They also have plenty of picnic benches near the toddler area of the playground. There's also more picnic benches with bbq pits near by. They have two bathrooms which were both clean. There's a nice walk way where people can walk and ride their bikes. The hey do have a covered picnic area. The hey have a skate park, three baseball fields, and a fitness area too outside. The park is huge with plenty of swings and toddler swings. This park doesn't look like it's an all inclusive park which is unfortunate. They have a bunch of climbing areas. My family and i would def return here. We came during a week day around lunch and there wasn't too many people here. read more

what a great park for kids of all ages! we came mid-morning on a saturday in the fall, and the weather was just perfect...around 60-65 and overcast, perfect for the kiddos to run around and break a little sweat, without getting too hot! my 3 nieces, ranging in age from 2 to 8, were thoroughly entertained for an hour and change...they enjoyed the play structures with the tight ropes, the monkey bars, the chutes and slides, the spinning wheel, although the youngest one had a little spill on the wheel, but she was fine, just a little startled! the space was just great, lots of room for many children to run around and play, without feeling crowded. there were restrooms a few steps away, and another set on the other side of the park. plenty of free, street parking on 28th ave and parkview way, but i chose to park in the dedicated parking lot at 27th ave & parkview (also free!) we saw lots of grassy green area as well as picnic tables, and several gatherings happening at this time...at least one birthday party, and another picnic/bbq. great park and highly recommended for those with children, probably all the way up to age 10! read more

It has been a long time since I last came here! This is the review for the playground area. For young children (toddlers) you may want to have your toddlers play in the smaller playground vs the main structures. There at like three large tree houses connected with ropes/walls for the kids to climb. For younger kids you prob have to walk with them to make sure they can cross the rope bridges since with other kids running back and forth it could get bouncy. Overall my kids had fun. There was a lot of climbing activities for them to use their strength and to run around. There are multiple swings there for infants and other kids and spinning stations that the kids like. There is a big pancake saucer that was a hit for us. There is a small skateboard park that kids can skate in and a workout area before the tennis courts which was new for me. Overall we enjoyed it, it was bit crowded in the afternoon with camps there but the place was well maintained, street parking and Parking in the lots are available. My other drawback was that I did not feel as safe for my kids to climb since I have a younger child with us but overall it was hit!!! read more

This park has EVERYTHING! Okay not everything but soooo many things to do in an amazing area! There's tennis courts, a skate park, garden, playground, picnic area, and a baseball field! My daughter wanted to go to the playground and we were in the San Mateo area. Yelp led us to this park! The playground has a structure for little ones and bigger structures for bigger kids! So there is something for every age. My 3 year old daughter enjoyed the playground. This is a very nice park and we'll be coming back when we're in the San Mateo area. read more

Beresford Park is an absolute jewel in San Mateo. Tall redwoods and eucalyptus offer shady spots on a sizable, slightly hilly grassy field. Basketball courts, bocce ball courts, tennis courts, baseball/softball fields (that are also off leash dog run areas in the early mornings), a skatepark, a fantastically imaginative and beautifully designed play structure area for kids...all these features distinguish Beresford as a park that offers so much to so many. There is also a fitness zone with 7 machines for exercise. Last night there was a movie in the park, which was delightful. Weekends there are often reservations for the bbq and picnic areas. Windy days see people flying kites on the grassy hill. I've seen dance classes, theatre improv classes, and exercise classes taking place here. Rangers are up early in the morning each day cleaning flyaway remnants of litter (park visitors need to do a better job of cleaning up after themselves); a janitorial staff refreshes the two bathroom structures (one by the tennis courts and one by the huge grassy field). I've emailed San Mateo Parks & Rec before and they have been incredibly responsive and friendly. This place is a GEM and it got us through the pandemic. Review #281 - 2018 After we finished eating lunch, I decided to take my daughter to the park so she can play on the playground. We showed up around 1 PM and there weren't too many kids around, but there were a few other adults walking their dogs around the park. The playground is nice and really big so my daughter had a great time playing here. There was a group of mentally disabled people that were there and the guy who was responsible for watching them didn't actually keep an eye on them. So, one of the guys, who was about 20 years old, around 6 feet tall and about 200 pounds comes to the small children's playground, where my daughter was playing and scared my daughter and a few other kids. I don't have any problems with him being there, but the fact that he's so much bigger than the kids made them uncomfortable & even an older lady was spooked by him getting too close to her because he was trying to touch her when he saw that the back of her pants was sitting kind of low while she was sitting & you can see a portion of her panty showing. Hopefully, whoever that guy is that's in charge of watching over them will do a better job at doing his job. read more

Hands down, THE king of parks in mid-pen and pretty much something for everyone. Pros: INCREDIBLE playground for older kids, probably 4+ at least. This playground has 3 beautiful "treehouse" structures between real ropes courses with TALL and windy slides, and an extended rope web to climb at low height. It is truly a play structure of your wildest dreams. It's so interesting even my fearful preschooler kid was going nuts climbing up and down the "treehouses." Big and little size swings, and balance activities. There is also a smaller kid play structure probably for age 2-3. Only complaint is the wood chips on the ground - baby LOVES to put them in his mouth but he'll grow out of it soon. Border of the playground and around trees has a built in bench, so plenty of seating for everyone. Some tree cover for the hotter months, and in general this location is not the hottest area on the peninsula. Playground is bordered on the side closer to roads, which is great for corralling wandering children. Has its own small parking lot on the far end from the playground, but streetside parking is not hard here. Ball courts, skate park, senior activities (saw some taiqi going on one time along with senior aerobics), bbq areas and pavilions as well as picnic tables. Smooth paved paths for scooters and bikes. Has bathrooms near the playground! Cons: Honestly can't think of any! read more

We had our tribute to our late Polynesian dance teacher here at the recreation center this past Saturday and it's a lovely venue. There's street and lot parking available. They charge by the rooms you need to use however. At first, they told us we would have to wait until 3 to come inside to set up for the 4 pm show. It would not allow enough time to get everything ready. But after our groups of people started waiting outside at 2:30, they let us in at 2:45 pm. Then it was a mad dash to find where everything was going to be set up. They set up the chairs and tables for us which was great. They have a patio where we set up the tables for the food and vendors. Very nice and the rooms were big enough for all of us to change into our costumes. There's a small kitchen and that's where our food preppers got the food ready for serving. There's a small stage in the front and it was lovely to dance on. All in all a very memorable experience. read more

Here is the new and redone Beresford! So how is it? Well... It's nice and new, but it has a lot of drawbacks as well. Everything here has been redone. The equipment is new, there are games everywhere, and your kids are sure to have a blast. But here are some of the drawbacks... 1) The got rid of the closed off toddler area. That's a real problem. I know parents loved having a place they knew they could keep their kid and not have to worry about them. 2) They replaced the rubber padding with tanbark. While this is more of a personal preference, it's still an annoyance. Tanbark is just inconvenient for everyone. 3) Some of the new play structures (the spider web) are kinda dangerous. I've fallen off it a handful of times and it is not fun. I've also seen some kids fall off. You might want to watch your kids while they climb on it. All that being said, it's still a good park. They have tennis courts, bocce ball courts, the baseball park, the skate park, the big field, the basketball courts and more. Just be weary of that new playground. read more

What a fantastic open space by the San Mateo City! Plough share gardens, spacious playground, picnics areas and outdoor exercise areas and sports fields soft balls snack bars and plenty of open space to run and play. The playground structures look to be newer and in mint condition! We were invited to come and meet some friends here and coming from the east bay, this park puts the others on the east bay to shame! You really cannot get any more Norman Rockwell or Brady Bunch family than this park, it has everything. From playgrounds for tots, little kids, big kids, and adults, this park always offers something for everyone. The weather is always perfect, sunny, and bright, the air is always clean, and the environment just really couldn't be any better. Wedged along the wealthy neighborhood of the Alameda de las Pulgas, Beresford Park is also home to Chanteloup Field, a baseball diamond I am intimately familiar with. There is also a skate park, basketball courts, tennis courts, tanbark parks, running trails, and a barbeque area (that is first come first served) for all your party needs. I love that in the suburbs, there is a park like this where you can walk, run, play, read, eat, drink, and do what you want until your heart is content. The people are always friendly, as you watch everyone else enjoying their time, it attracts you join them and get lost in the feeling of playing as if you were a kid again; sort of an opportunity to be like Tom Hanks in, "Big". It's definitely a place to relax, enjoy, take in a beautifully laid out park, built for function as well as beauty. read more

we took the kids here after lunch to tire them out. we found this park on yelp and we are amazed by how big it is and how much stuff there is to do here. they have a little bit of everything. from baseball, basketball,skatepark. tons of space to hold a bbq. place is nice and very clean. i would have to say this park is perfect for 10 and younger for them to be roaming around having a blast read more

This park has it all! Semi-recently redone play structure, big grassy field, basketball courts, garden center, picnic tables, BBQs, tennis courts, bocce ball, community garden, nice bathrooms, skate park, baseball diamond (often used to let dogs run free if there's no game going on), ample parking. What more could you ask for? Some weekends, there'll be a BBQ, but in general it's a calm park. The amenities are spread out so even if there are multiple parties happening, noise pollution isn't too bad. There's a nice range of shady and sunny parts if you're going for a stroll. Because it's connected to the Rec Center, I think there's a bit more light than other parks if you're here past dark. read more

Redone Beresford is open. It looks beautiful, my kids (ages 5, 9 & 11) love it. It's wide open with slides, swings and lots of climbing equipment. I really dislike tan bark so I am disappointed that's the surface they chose. I also miss the fenced in toddler play area, it's an exercise equipment area now. The park is definitely pre-k age and up so toddlers have less they can do on their own at the new park. Overall, it's a great park to have in the neighborhood and will be the newest destination park on the peninsula. read more

Park ranger came by unannounced to discuss our use permit at the park. She was fairly rude to me and indicated this is not a conversation but was going to be her doing all the talking. We have rented this park every year for the past 6 years and this is the first time we were told that we were not allowed to use the electric plug that was mounted right there on the wall She hung around while we did the set up to make sure that nobody use the electrical outlet and then left. No coffee pots & no crockpot to keep the food warm We thought about going to Home Depot and getting a generator but the Ranger informed us that would not be allowed unless we paid an extra charge ... Interesting thing was that we were there on Friday to check on the area and there was a group that had reserved the picnic area that had guitars and amplifiers plugged in and playing amplified loud music. The nature of the park has really changed & my vote is to move on and find a less heavy handed picnicking area with the associated ranger presence read more
