Very nice park next to the Bay Trail. The parking lot is pretty small, Seal Point Park, which is right next door, has a huge parking lot. There was a play area here, along with a good sized picnic/BBQ area that's covered. The restrooms were really clean, which is a great sign for a park. I come to this area to run sometimes, and it's a great place to be on a sunny day!!! read more

I think the main advantage of this playground is that is next to Seal Point Park, so you could go on a lovely stroll as well. Otherwise, the playground is kind of minimal and old. There is only one small structure that is geared more towards toddlers. Other than that, there is a large netted dome for climbing on. There is a sandpit as well and some swings. The entire playground has soft padding. Bathrooms are open. There are picnic tables in a shaded area, as well as closer to the water. Parking can really fill up since people come for the trails. read more

I didn't stay for long, sort of passing through, so a short review. We wanted to walk the Bay Trail, so we chose to meet at Ryder Court Park, aka Ryder Park. They have parking! Yay. The park looks pretty nice, picnic tables with fan-design coverings. The splash pad looks to be closed due to COVID. The area seems to be fairly well maintained. I would come back for a picnic for sure. read more

this is a great park in san mateo, bordering foster city. since it is right off the bay trail, and hence, the water, the weather is typically always almost perfect, cooler than most of the bay during the warmer months, with a bit of breeze to keep you cool. there's a nice size playground structure for children, as well as a water pad, which shoots water from the ground, perfect for those hot summer days. there is also a good chunk of grassy area for frisbee, throwing a ball around, or just lounging around. several sets of picnic tables are available: the 4 standalone tables towards the rear are unreserved (first-come-first served), while the 10 tables underneath the structure are reserved, but this is perfect for a larger sized party. there are also restrooms, separate men's & women's, towards the front of the park, close to the street. while there is a dedicated parking lot for this park, it's not very big. when there are large parties/gatherings for the reserved picnic areas, the parking lot fills up fast. in this case, you just need to park at the adjacent seal point park, which has several larger parking lots, just one more street up. i've gotten pretty lucky, in that when i come here, there's not too much going on, so i'm always able to get a parking spot, without "stalking" other park patrons. this park is easily accessible from freeway 101 & 3rd avenue. you can also take caltrain to downtown san mateo and walk 1.2 miles. read more

Ran into this park while going to Seal Point. There isn't much to play around, more of a big picnic area more than anything else. I see that the park has the water sprinklers setup for those hot days, not likely using due to the current COVID. I did run into a few rabbits on the way here. Most likely a couple of pet bunnies that got released and now become wild. read more

Even my wife and I (and the friends we've brought here) have enjoyed climbing on the structures. There's plenty of walking/hiking nearby, which is great to do as a group activity. The nearby hill just south of the park is a mile loop, so it's easy to get some steps in. read more

Great place to take a long walk. We walked 5,000 steps before the sunset. There was a breeze to help cool down. I would come back here.

This charming and modern-looking neighborhood park makes good use of the space it's in. This is city planning done right! Amenities here include: * A couple play structures and swings * A water feature shooting water out of the ground that people can play in * A medium sized grassy area * A shaded area with picnic tables and BBQ grills * Restrooms The park is relatively well-maintained, and the grass is kept green and mowed. There's a small parking lot, but additional parking can be found nearby in the much larger Seal Point Park, which is connected via a short pedestrian bridge. And of course you have the Bay Trail here, connecting the area to other places along the scenic shoreline. In my opinion, Ryder Court Park is good for kids who just want to climb stuff, while the surrounding area is good for cyclists, runners and those looking to enjoy nature. read more

One of the best strolls we've taken during quarantine! On the weekends it is completely packed with people but they do a decent job social distancing. The area has clean trails and peaceful views. On a sunny day, you can even get a clear view of the city! I love that the trails are long enough to get enough exercise without fully committing to a hike. read more

Nice park with decent amount of free parking spaces. Bathrooms are kinda dirty from kids use probably. Water play is currently available so bring your swimsuits and towels. Older kids swing features unique cushy seat, kinda like a padded foamy booster seat. Separate sand and little kids structures available. Older kids don't have as much, as far as structures go, although there is a huge climbing rope dome. Families like to have parties here. Nice clean lawn areas available. If you get bored, go on a 2 mile walk down to the dog park -- but be prepared for WIND!! It gets crazy windy down the path. read more

I like the cushy ground under the climbing structures that make it a bit safer when kids fall. The drawbacks to this park: - Parking lot is fairly small. - The play areas are not fenced in. - The bathrooms have been a bit grungy when we've been here. Cute park right off the Bay Trail. Meant more for the 7 and under crowd as my 11 year old son was way big for the rest of the structures. Came here for the first time this week and returned a few days later. Even though I live in San Francisco, I don't mind driving here to enjoy the serene, clean trails and views. Took a run along the shoreline and took advantage of the staircase to get some extra cardio in. Views are beautiful. Parking is ample. Bathrooms are decent. Will be back for a run or Bike ride and may bring a picnic lunch here to enjoy when the weather is nice. The dog park looks amazing. Haven't seen one that big. Excited to bring my dogs over to see how they like it. Overall, would definitely recommend. read more

This is my childhood park and it's the same for my boys! I still remember when Ryder's use to have the small, plain metal play area and being able to witness it turn into the park it is today. I want to say it was around 2003 they renovated the entire park and is the new family attraction the last years. Play ground: they 4 sections. 1 with the swings (baby/toddler swings as well) 2. Toddler-5/6 play area with. Small sand box area. 3. All age play area with different structures. 4. Small splash pad/BBQ area. The play area is all padded thankfully but I still recommend not letting your babies play around barefoot in the summer to avoid their little feet burning. If they're playing in the splash pad area, I recommend making sure they wear slippers or water-friendly crocs/shoes anyway. Swing area is tan bark and bbq area is concrete like dirt rubbles. Entering the park from the neighborhood, on the right are open fields. I'd recommend that area for a quiet picnic. However, there are other grass areas to sit if you don't want to hang out in the bbq area. There is neighborhood and park parking. I live nearby so it's walking distance but with my little ones I'll still drive. One thing I love about living here along the waters is the scenery. On my runs I'll start off at this park and make my way towards Coyote Point or if I'm trying to stay close to home I'll run to the stairs along the hill and hit those with a few work outs on the grass overlooking the waters. I also run around the hill. There is more than 1 way around so it's nice changing it up every visit. When we did have dogs I loved bringing them here because the dog park area is so huge for them to run around. So it would tire them out quick. However, I prefer going to the city and taking them to grass dog parks to keep their paws soft. The dog park here is like concrete rubble. No matter what time it is, it's beautiful to run. I love my neighborhood and never felt unsafe so there would be times I'm running at 5 am or midnight. At one point all my cousins and friends would play freeze tag here at 10 pm (21+ haha). I've used the same biking trail from Foster City to San Mateo and it was beautiful the entire way. Whether you're running or just want to take a walk for some fresh air, this park and biking trail is the place. read more

Ryder Court Park is a great park for a quick stroll or a long picnic party. The trails are relatively flat, pet-friendly, and have a beautiful view of the bay. The picnic tables are large, and close to playgrounds and bathrooms. The weather is generally warm with a light breeze. This is a great, clean playground for kids. My daughter just turned two and loves it here. It has three main features. The first is a great big water fountain that kids can run around in. The second is a big spider web structure that kids can climb on. The last is a big sandbox (with new sand!). It's a good choice if you have kids at different ages since there's enough to keep all ages entertained. There's always a few other families at the park, but it never seems too crowded. The kids (and their parents) have always been well behaved and friendly. I've never seen any problems with kids being too aggressive here. The park is kept very clean and you often see people having birthday parties in the picnic area on weekend afternoons. The park is located by the baylands, east of 101 at 3rd Ave. It's very easy to get to and it's surrounded by nice walking paths with views of the bay. Surprisingly the area has never been windy when we've gone there. The water fountain area is in the sun so the kids stay warm while getting wet. There's plenty of shade and places to sit for parents too. If you go, make sure you bring a towel and change of clothes for your kids. It's hard to keep them out of the water. What a great park. Tons of parking close by. A wonderful bay trail to bike or jog as well. The park is clean and large. There's a huge lawn area for those who want to rent a jumper and a large bbq area with picnic tables for those who remember to reserve the bbq pits before hand. There's even a little water fountain park for kid sto play in. I love this place. Bring your pets and kids, they'll love it too! read more

My daughter loves to scooter... And, this is the perfect scooter/play park. The park is located on a paved part of the Bay Trail. We scootered along the water, checked out the shorebirds using the free binocular stands and then rode past the awesome metal wind sculptures. The play area is wonderful --and so different from the ubiquitous structures found all over the peninsula. The playground features many high-quality European structures, including Kompan and Berliner Selfabrik. Try the spinners -- they're not modern art, they're really fun. The climbing structure is a good difficulty level for the 6-11 set. The toddler play area had lots of interesting things that my 15-month old son enjoyed exploring. We didn't need to use the restroom --thank goodness -- so I can't comment on those. read more

Super fun playground with a huge sand pit, two normal swings and two baby swings, great sidewalks for kids to ride bikes or scooters, and the water feature is a lot of fun when turned on for a few months of the year Wednesday-Sunday. Check their official San Mateo city website for specific dates etc. when it's hot this park gets really really hot and I don't ever see the reason for black plastic or metal on kids play structures. read more

I like the fact that it has a huge cover for people that want to eat. The location is nice as its right next to Seal Point park. The slide structure is good for smaller kids (small slide) but for bigger kids, they have a few nice climbing structures. Parking is available, but not plentiful, a walk over a small suspension bridge to Seal Point and there are a ton of parking spots. read more

2018 Update: This park is a 5-star park. It might not be for wee ones, but it is great for pre-school and kindergartners! Now that the drought is over the water feature is on regularly, and it is fabulous on a hot day. Also, this is one of the few parks in San Mateo that allows bounce houses (by permit). We have now hosted 2 large parties at this park. The covered picnic areas can be reserved by city residents, and reservations for the year open January 1. Plan ahead! 11/16/15 This park has a so-so playground and decent sandbox. For younger children, it's not very engaging. It has a cool-looking water park feature that I can imagine in hot weather (and when not closed due to drought) would be fun for kids. Probably my favorite park in the Bay area. There are multiple parking spots available. Ample open areas for various activities. I like to come here for spike ball in the wide grass area with some friends. The ice cream man comes by every so often. There's also a nice back drop of the ocean. Jungle gym and a kiddie water fountain are available for kids. Can't go wrong spending a fun filled or relaxing afternoon in this park. read more

Still in great condition from its last remodel quite a few years back.... has a water feature and is a great starting point to cross over to view the waters from the bridge or start a physical hike thru the trails. read more

This is a great park, it is versatile and serves many ages. I love the water feature, and the fact that it comes on every 5 minutes is great, it is short spurts for attention-lacking kids, lol! There is a toddler park which is nice, and lots of grassy areas if you want to bring a blanket and park under a tree. The park area also has the spongy ground rather than tan bark or sand, which is parent-friendly as far as cleaning goes. There is a nice seating area with 10 picnic benches, which can probably seat 60-80 people if it had to. The only issue with the picnic area is the lack of enough shade. I might consider having a birthday party there! There could be more parking too, the amount of parking doesn't coincide with the size of the park. The one thing I didn't like about this park is that it was packed, but it might have been because it was a super-hot day the day I went. I didn't use the bathrooms so I can't comment on that, I avoid public restrooms if I can, especially ones in parks, ugh. read more

The water park is closed to conserve water. I cycle past this park quite often, several times a week for sure. I saw a snake once before, and it was quite a large one (2-3ft long), so be wary of that. Not much can be done about that though. The park can be somewhat smelly sometimes, but it's still a great open area. The trail leads to either the golf course and San Mateo bridge or Coyote point, depending on which direction you go. read more

Nice park off the levy with decent parking. We happened to go on the hottest day in the summer so the water area was great for our daughter. It would be nice to be a bit shaded because even if it's not that hot, direct sun isn't the best for kids. It's not a huge park, but newer so it's kept up and kid safe. I don't love this place and I don't hate it. It's OK. The park is fairly new that is nestled by the bay. The highlight is the aquatic playground. That is fun to run back and forth and soak up wet on a hot day! The play area and structure is basic and few. Nothing to rave about. It's definitely got a beautiful pathway of landscapes and this place is quite clean. The picnic tables are few but pits to bbq, and there is architectural design that provides partial shading. However, there's not much shading to hide or keep cool during those hot summer days. It gets windy here too. read more

I have a 14 month old and this park was only okay for her. There aren't a lot of structures designed for her. Having said that, I can see this place being a huge hit for the kids who are more confident in walking and climbing. As it is, she was entertained enough with the sand pit and walking around staring at the older kids. I took two stars off because the bathrooms are filthy with discarded kids underwear (seriously?!) and other clothing everywhere. The toilets were gross. It's the kind of situation where you would only take your child to that bathroom if you had a true emergency. I also dislike the fact that the playground isn't fenced in when you consider how close the parking lot is to the playground. Last but not least, if your kids want to play with the water park sprinklers, note that the hours for that feature are Tues - Sun, 11-4. read more
