It was the high capacity (50 ppl and 10 cars), with flush toilets, shelters, and no outright policy against alcohol that sold me on the cradle​ of forestry campground, Briar Bottom located in the Black Mountain Campground. We camped one night at Red Oak. We had booked for two but, sometimes when you camp at the tail if the season (end of October) in the shadows of Mount Mitchell you aren't guaranteed the prettiest of weather. Getting here on those mountain roads was quite the adventure. Bring printed directions as you're going to loose cell service the closer you get. If you're headed to the group camp just turn into the camp ground, and proceed left. You'll go for quite a way but once you've reached the ford you're pretty much there. Yep, you've got to cross a creek running down the mountain side. It's tile bottomed so there's not too much to worry about. There were 8 of us that camped and it was pretty much a cold downpour (36 degrees) from when we arrived so it was a huge bonus that all the sites have shelters with space to put together tents, and put on those rainflys before staking them down. Having two picnic tables were great because they were under the shelters too. All in all I'll totally come back when I'm visiting my home state and I need a beautiful place to camp at a reasonable cost.

So we found the KOA Down the street and it's cheaper and they actually care about us.

This time our rig was tail light and due to the slight incline of the site made for rain water to flow we had a hard time leveling the front so I went back to the office to request a different site and explained that the reason was our rig and not the site itself to which the owners obliged with a smile, not only that but he offered me his wooden blocks that in the end were the perfect solution. There is an stigma about permanent people but we found that us being friendly, waving and smiling to all they all are friendly and respond well, on the contrary the only indifferent person was a temporary young lady that when greeted twice looked the other way but you can't expect everyone to be in a good mood all the time. Quiet place, close to Forest City where we went to church on Sunday and also very close to Lake Lure to check the touristy attractions that lure ( pun intended ) people in. Booking…read morewas easy online, the campsite staff was easy to reach and communicate with, the facilities were clean and overall the park was such a fun place. We brought our two senior Shibas, who aren't really into dog parks or other dogs, and they were able to have the entire parks to themselves for at least an hour each day we went. They had so much fun, and being able to pick up some dog treats on the way home from our park adventure was a nice touch. The staff here do an amazing job keeping the campgrounds clean, maintained, and filled with fun activities for dogs and people. Having a fenced in site was great, and our dogs felt right at home. The RV is stocked with almost everything you'll need for a few days, just bring food, towels and personal hygiene stuff and you're set. There's also washers/dryers/general store if you forget anything. Overall we had such a fun time just hanging out, spending quality time with our dogs. There were a ton of social events going on - bonfires, happy hr, etc but we're antisocial so we watched from afar. Looked fun though! We will definitely be back next summer! *My only suggestion would be to include an EV charging station, we were able to trickle charge our vehicle with no issues but having a paid EV charging site/parking spot would be an awesome addition to help generate revenue and attract more road trippers and you can charge while you're at the dog parks. I understand it's mostly a RV destination, but being able to charge our vehicle while we rented the RV was really convenient especially because the nearest supercharger is 45 min away.

The experience was top notch not just for our pup but for us as well! We were in one of the fully-fenced in camp sites, which was wonderful for our Chuckie who is too "busy" to be confined to a tether! 15 minute drive to the grocery store and about 20 minutes to a wonderful local winery, Mountain Brook Vineyards which was dog-friendly as well! We spent 2 nights here and loved our site, the deck over the rushing stream was a perfect place to sip coffee in the mornings and whiskey in the evenings. The dog park gave our pup the chance to run free, the clean bathhouses gave us a place to freshen up and the location gave us the ability to explore all Asheville had to offer, climb to the top of Mount Mitchell (the highest point East of the Mississippi) and just enjoy the surroundings. Our site had a full hook up, electric and water (even with temps in the low 20's at night), we had a fire ring (or square), a picnic table perched on the deck, cantilevered over the stream, and lovely (back-in) site with privacy and shade. We can't wait to come back.

Very nice play area for the kids, nice bathroom facilities, a great group pavilion with a fireplace & TV, and a well equipped camp store. The park is near the Blue Ridge Parkway and several nice towns with craft galleries. Many of the guests told me they had been coming for YEARS. There is nice landscaping between spaces and several of the spaces had decks over the trout stream. This RV Park has added many acres next door and is expanding.
