Service is already thin with trains only running every 15 minutes or so at best, so when you miss your connection(s) the time lost starts adding up quickly. This morning the bus driver got lost which was a first, so I missed my train and was late to work. This didn't surprise me unfortunately, as I expect RTD to screw me over at least 10% of the time and they were about due. Leaving work the train simply didn't show up, so I missed the hourly bus back home. I'm currently standing in a shelter at Federal Center station, and in keeping with their policy of being awful, RTD decided the shelters should have holes in the sides so that the wind can pass straight through. There's plexiglass at the upper portion so if you stand on the bench it's less miserable, but it's really frustrating how bad this transportation agency is at all aspects of transportation.

The new ticket validators are sleek. I was glad to see an RTD police officer at the station when I alighted after the conference. It was getting dark and some of the riders were weird. I thanked him for his vigilance and my sense of security. He was nice and walked partway to my car with me.

If you're headed downtown for some fun, I recommend checking if RTD is available near you. From concerts and sporting events at Denver's top venues to bar hopping or skating downtown, RTD Union Station is a great and reliable way to get to and from your event. Did someone say free DD for the night? RTD has you covered. I found it to be safe and well taken care of, though I recommend the buddy system when possible. RTD Union Station is ALSO the perfect way to get to and from the Denver International Airport affordably. It makes solid time as well, considering how far Denver International Airport is from the city.

We came here from the airport. It seems to be happening all over now that you can fly in to a destination than catch a train to your final spot (or close to it.) It's also a lot of fun taking the train through new spots and getting a feel for where you are. They started the refurbishing project in 2010 and officially had the Grand Re-Opening in 2014. This is truly the smart way for cities to go by utilizing what they have and maintaining a great history. The building is surrounded by businesses, housing, hotels and restaurants. But if you're staying anywhere near 15th to 17th street itself a quick walk over to grab a free ride. The bus covers about a mile and a half on 16th street and sees to come about every 5 to 10 minutes, it stops at every cross street along 16th street. It came in handy when I took the train from the airport down to Union station instead of walking a mile down to Tremont I just walked the next street over and took this for free. Side note with this being in downtown you may encounter some "unhoused" folks in the area so be aware of that.

The buses were clean, and we never had to wait more than 1-2 min for a bus to stop. It's a very well staffed line with lots of buses. The only downside is that the drivers will not talk to you. On one of our rides, a person was passed out in the back. They looked like they could use a welfare check, and it didn't look like they were just sleeping. We tried to tell the bus driver so they could make sure they didn't need medical attention, but he wouldn't speak to us and waived us off.

This means you are looking at $10 per person for a round trip. This might make economic sense for 1 person, but if you are a group of 4 or 5 people going out for the evening, you could drive downtown, pay for gas and $10 for parking, and still come out $20 to $30 ahead. Also, you would get downtown faster, not spend as much time cooling your heels at the station (or have to change trains on the weekend), and probably wind up much closer to your intended destination. It is neither convenient nor cost effective for many people.

I rated it as four stars, based on the following highlights (no particular order): + Ample outdoor parking that's CHEAP + Parking pay station collocated with ride ticket vending machine + Rides are cheap...no comparison needed + Train cleanliness appears to be of importance + Timely departure and arrival + Airport service via transfer at Union station - NO restrooms at this particular station, or I missed them Overall great way to travel locally and especially to a Broncos game, like I am tonight.
