Truly mediocre. Light rail trains frequently are late or simply do not run, and it is extremely rare for them to post any kind of alert or update on their website when this happens. You just stand around hoping it shows up, then eventually the next one does. Maybe. Service is already thin with trains only running every 15 minutes or so at best, so when you miss your connection(s) the time lost starts adding up quickly. This morning the bus driver got lost which was a first, so I missed my train and was late to work. This didn't surprise me unfortunately, as I expect RTD to screw me over at least 10% of the time and they were about due. Leaving work the train simply didn't show up, so I missed the hourly bus back home. I'm currently standing in a shelter at Federal Center station, and in keeping with their policy of being awful, RTD decided the shelters should have holes in the sides so that the wind can pass straight through. There's plexiglass at the upper portion so if you stand on the bench it's less miserable, but it's really frustrating how bad this transportation agency is at all aspects of transportation. read more

RTD is a nightmare. The buses and trains are often late or don't show up. Last time I was on the 169 headed towards Arapahoe Station, the driver skipped the Tower Rd Walmart stop completely and was VERY rude to the passengers. That seems to be very common too. The bus drivers and even security are extremely rude to passengers, and of course RTD does not care about this. If you have any other options at all, don't use RTD. It's not worth paying money to be treated like crap. Maybe that's why the employees arent always respected by the passengers. When you and your employees are rude to people, people don't feel the need to be nice to you. Train your people better and actually have buses and trains arrive on time. Arrived in Denver on January 11th through the 13th on a business trip with my wife. Due to weather conditions we arrived much later than we were planning on. When we arrived we made the decision to ride the RTD from the airport to union station for our ride to our hotel. Unlike our rapid transit system (CTA in Chicago,) the RTD was CLEAN & Safe to ride. We had a 40 minute ride that was actually enjoyable! We will definitely utilize the RTD on our future trips to and from Denver airport. read more

A nightmare. I don't understand how you can screw up the train so bad that it's never reliable. You put nothing on your website when you are experiencing interruptions and strand people in no mans land. I know Denver is a car city but the light rail was supposed to change this. And we're back! jesus christ. i don't know if it's just the H line or a specific driver and i don't care. the number of hard emergency-like stops being made is concerning. we're being thrown with the momentum of the ever tardy shitwheel with (you guessed it!) NO HEADS UP OR WARNINGS. no hopping on the intercom to say hey, you might be thrown against a fucking window, just so you know. once again we're just shit out of luck riders right? i got off the E line at Southmoor at 3:15pm. I did not reach Nine Mile, only two stops away, until 5pm. we stopped too many times to count in between, and each one was jarring. maintenance aside, RTD's complete inability to communicate anything with its riders is laughable. not even the display boards at Southmoor even light up anymore. so how are we supposed to know if the train is even coming? more crossing of fingers? let's talk about capacity. i know maintenance means disturbances and schedule changes. i get that. but the "solution" of cramming as many people into one car as possible? not only is it a garbage idea, it's a hazardous practice. we're not meant to stand on the stairs of car, right? says it on all the doors and everything. but then since there's less trains less frequently, riders still need to get to where we need to go. i stood in the stairs three times today. not by choice, but out of necessity. cause there's not enough trains in service for the number of people using them. incredible. so let's go down our checklist, shall we? The trains: - do not come when scheduled - are not driven with passenger safety in mind - are overfilled past capacity forcing riders to choose between getting to their destination and their own safety - are completely inconsistent in operation depending on which "operator" is running it, for example i've been on smooth rides before. but not every time or even a decent majority of the time - when their "security" are around, which also isn't fucking consistent, they seem to serve two roles: bullying passengers for not pulling up our tickets quickly enough or just letting whatever happen, happen. saw a gentleman sparking something in my car, little flame sparks, and despite officers being present, they acted like nothing was going on. to conclude - Denver public transit is the circus, and the RTD is the resident clown. This is my customer complaint on the RTD Website; I purchased a physical pass for a homeless person 20 days ago. It has never been sent out. I have called and called and am routed to accounting where no one answers nor calls back. I am also told there is no refund for a physical pass by customer service. I left voicemail for accounting 5 days in and 10 days in. No response. When I call "customer service" they basically tell me...you need to talk to accounting and transfer me to a dead line. I finally got a person and screamed for a supervisor. I screamed at the supervisor and he finally helped me. I don't know what is going to happen yet...I only know he escalated it. I'm ashamed and embarrassed to pay taxes to this expensive, inept, rude and inconsiderate organization. I will be posting my experience absolutely everywhere. What a sham. Unless I have an overwhelming need for a car in Denver, this is my preferred way to get from DIA to downtown. It's just $10.50 for a daypass and the trip is a reliable 40 minutes. A line is often late, the signaling system also goes down causing major delays or cancellations, there are also countless delays due to "police activity" according to the marquees. When this happens they say they offer buss service however also state that that they do not promise timeliness or a schedule when this happens. I have ubered and walked back to get my car more times than I can count due to the reliability issues. This week one track was shut down and trains were delayed up to 40 minutes. I ubered after waiting 20 and then hearing it was running 20 more minutes behind... you cannot trust it. This morning I rode the train in and we paused mid track for a decent amount of time. The connection normally is 4 mins but we were over 15 mins between stops. When I asked for a timeline as to when they might be back up and running normally, I was told that they were running normally again but were just behind schedule. To me that said it all and I have decided to drive moving forward. RTD could be incredible but not like this. I am not sure where the breakdown is but something has to change and I am sorry for all involved. All passengers delayed or caused to miss meetings or flights due to the issues, the conductors and platform teams as this must make their jobs substantially harder and for the security teams having to answer so many questions. I hope someone takes note and turns things around but as of now, I just cannot trust RTD any longer. read more

The drivers of the Skip line in Boulder on the weekend are complete lunatics who caused me 2 hours of delays in one day, The operators lie about bus times. They do not follow the schedule even remotely. When one finally arrived at my stop, it he closed the door on me hurting me and drove off before I got on. He could've killed me. When I told the supervisor, who I was on the phone with because of the other hostile lunatic driver who yelled at all of us to get off. He said that the driver would come back for me because he lied and said he wouldn't pick me up the first time because he has a report of an unruly passenger at the location. I had just gotten to that stop limping on foot as a disabled person carrying my laundry. That bus driver never came back to get me as the supervisor promised. I finally caught the bus multiple times slots late. Their incompetence made me extremely late on a bus line that is supposed to show up every 15 minutes. these drivers think they are Uber drivers who can pick up whom ever they want when ever they want. A long time ago I was in Colorado for a very unique convention and I must declare this transit system is very tourist friendly. I can see why it's so laid back. I can't remember the last time I had a good experience with RTD. Used to take the light rail every day for work, and I'm glad I work from home now. RTD is extremely unreliable, they'll shut down service between multiple stops randomly without notice or providing a shuttle to the next available stop, so you're stranded and have to spend even more money on a Lyft or Uber to make it to your destination. They also don't provide refunds when this situation happens, or at all. Not to mention, RTD is pretty expensive compared to other large cities. RTD has also become quite unsafe. The amount of drunk/high (hard drugs, not marijuana) idiots that sexually harass women, or try to pick fights with others on the light rail is staggering. Especially when RTD is fully aware and continue to allow it to happen with no increase in security. Save yourself the headache, and find another mode of transportation. read more

I have used many public transportation systems across the country as well in Europe and Middle East. This is by far the worst public transportation system. Not only it's poorly designed but also doesn't even meet some basic requirements of a decent public transportation system. Their trains are dirty, almost never on time, constant delays, cancellations , there are people smoking crack on trains, safety of passengers is not a concern at all for RTD and the management doesn't seem to care. Have been riding RTD since 1999 regularly, it is Dangerous, inefficient., No bathrooms at any LR station, Seating options don't make sense. People openly use drugs and smoke cigarettes on the trains, driving quality is wildly inconsistent with seemingly always someone in training on the LR, making for a very jerky ride. One day last November, as per usual I was riding the city bus to my neighborhood from campus. A couple of stops in, this big, much older guy sat right next to me, along with another person across from us. The guy next to me immediately started nudging me relentlessly, despite me looking down at my phone, trying to make it clear that I was not interested in talking to them. He kept trying to talk to me about all kinds of things that are not appropriate to talk to strangers about, let alone in public to begin with. The conversation had to do with making babies, sex in general, and all kinds of stuff that was making me uncomfortable. I tried my absolute hardest to let it go in one ear and out the other, but he was making me very anxious and increasingly unsafe. He literally told me to say the n-word (he's Black) and I refused as a white person. He also called me it, along with several other horrific things, but while smiling the whole time. He was also touching me more than just the nudges. At this point, he was also feeling my jacket, and put his hand on top of mine. I was mentally breaking down, but I didn't say anything because I felt like he would keep bothering me no matter what I said. Then, the stranger across from us said to him "Hey, you're kinda freaking him out. You should leave him alone." I guess that person could just tell how uncomfortable I was from nonverbal cues. But he still wouldn't leave me alone. Because of that stranger, I worked up the courage to tell the guy directly "please leave me alone." He STILL wouldn't fucking leave me be and kept touching me and saying disgusting things while also trying to get me to repeat them. I felt close to throwing up, and didn't think I could survive the remaining 25 minutes until we reached my stop, so at the next one I grabbed my bag and bolted out the back door as fast as I could. Thankfully, this guy did not follow me out. But I was beyond shaken up for the rest of the day. I called my mom to explain to her the situation and where I was at so she could pick me up. I am never EVER riding RTD again, and recommend you do the same if you have ANY other options!! My parents feel awful about this whole situation, and are putting up with long commutes so I can continue going to school here while avoiding the city bus. Thank God I was born male; this situation would have been a thousand times worse if I had been in that position as a female. So yeah, I'm writing this as a warning. Don't give the city of Denver your money to take RTD, it's not safe. There was no security guard on the bus or anything, and only one person even began to defend me against this awful person. The posted light rail schedule and the actual light rail schedule do not align and the trains are incredibly slow. It took 90 + minutes to go from Ridgegate to the theatre district. Trying to get home was a nightmare. The posted schedule on the RTD app and printed schedule did not align with the actual trains. We got stranded last night at I-25 and Broadway and finally had to call a $50 Uber to get home. The light rail is unreliable and unsafe to use for these reasons, making public transportation not a viable option in Denver. read more

I am disabled and Access I Ride left me on the sidewalk at 64th and Pecos st, for 2 1/2 hours with no bathroom and a rain storm moving in. I had a decent exposure to Denver's RTD. I rode the commuter rail from Westminster into the city. I rode the free 16th street Mallride. And I rode a bus across town to get back to Union Station. The system has four lines that go out to the suburbs. I'm sure the folks outside the city would like to see more further trains. For example, the Westminster "B" line is only 12 minutes starting in Westminster and ending at Union Station. Why doesn't it go further out, like to Boulder? I don't know. Transportation is a right. I just got a new job, with a considerable commute. It was definitely too far for me to ride my bike, but I didn't mind at all, it was just a relaxing hour of bus/train riding to get there and back. I was happy to be put on the closing shift, which is 5pm till 1am, and this worked out well for me as a night owl, because it provides me plenty of time to get stuff done during the day before I'm tired out by work. You can probably see where this is going. It was my first day and it was an easy hour of transit riding to get to work. Then when I was ready to go home I got a rude awakening. Now I knew that the trains and busses ran less frequently at night, but I didn't know they STOPED THEM ALTOGETHER So what exactly am I supposed to do?
