Before the catfish and shrimp came out the waitress came to the table with the Fix-ins. The fixings are white beans, hush puppies and coleslaw. I was full before the meal came to the table. What a disappointment. Expensive dinner $30 each person for some horrible food. Ordered their seafood platter and it was disgusting. Sent back and they still charged us. Wow. We stopped by here on a Thursday night on my way to the coast. No wait around 7:30. We were immediately seating. The place is nice and rustic with fishing stuff on the walls. It's what you would expect from a catfish house. Immediately, our drink order was taken and our "set up" was delivered. White beans, slaw and cornmeal hushpuppies. I could come here and eat just that and be happy. I ordered a combo of fried catfish filets and stuffed crabs. Everything was fantastic. I had fries, but next time I will get a baked potato. Nothing wrong with the fries, they are just those "batter coated" extra crispy kind I am not a fan of. It did not matter I had too much anyway. We really enjoyed this. On we were stuffed but we found out one of their desserts was a fried blackberry pie. That was outstanding as well. We arrived about 5 PM on a Friday to a parking lot full of cars. We almost choked, but decided to go in and see about wait time. We were seated within 5 minutes. Party of 2. The place is huge-3 dining areas. There were a lot of huge group tables (10+). Asked our waiter if this was normal. He said the line at 430 was huge. They open at 430. He said Saturday is even busier. After our dining experience I understand their popularity. Each table is served bowls of beans, Cole slaw and hush puppies. The beans were very flavorful. What a great evening! I visited here with some coworkers on a Wednesday evening. Even on a week day evening, be ready to wait for a table as this place is very popular in the community. Once seated, we were very quickly greeted for drinks, which came out right around the same time as plates of hushpuppies, coleslaw, and southern beans were placed on the table. These come complimentary with the meal, and honestly, I could've made a meal out of these sides. While the beans were not my favorite (they were too smokey/meaty in flavor for my preference), the hush puppies and coleslaw were to die for. For my main meal, I got the senior version of the fried catfish fillets. This dish only comes with two fried fillets rather than three, and a smaller side of fries. After my appetizers, this was the perfect size for me. The fries are not anything special, but they come out just as hot as the fish. My fillets were wonderful. We came for dinner at 8pm on a Friday night with a party of 7 adults, one of which was in a wheelchair, plus an infant, and they could not have been more accommodating! We went on a Friday night and hit it just right, 6pm And we had a 15 minute wait that turned out to be just 10 minutes. The wait did increase to 25-30 minutes while we were standing there, so we got in right before the crowd arrived. But even after the crowd showed up they turned over tables quickly. When you sit down they bring out beans, hush puppies and coleslaw. The coleslaw was not as sweet as I like but I grabbed a packet of sugar and fixed it right up. The hush puppies were great and my wife enjoyed the beans, I'm not a bean person. I ordered the senior catfish fillet dinner with fries and my wife ordered the whole catfish dinner with baked potato. It was all delicious and the whole catfish might have been a bit more tender than the fillets but watch out for bones in the whole. My family ate at the Catfish House 30 years ago and last week was our first time back in that period of time primarily because one can get good catfish in lots of places and we often like a drink with our meal which the Catfish House does not provide. However, with the Fantail full, we drove down to the Catfish House. The restaurant and decor is perfect for the fare. We arrived a little past 7 and were immediately seated. The wait staff was "average" in its attendance. After ordering, we were promply served slaw, white beans, and hushpuppies. I could just eat the slaw and beans and go home they are so good, but I find the hush puppies too sweet. We all had the fish and found it a bit greasy. The baked potato side dish was as expected. Overall, this is a good place to eat but interestingly the worst part of the meal was the fish and hushpuppies. I will try something else next time or just quit after the slaw and beans. read more

Although crowded (Wed 5:30 pm) with large parties our wait for 2 was less than 5 minutes. They give you a bowl of coleslaw, white beans and hush puppies to start and then your order and a side. P.S. We don't live in Montgomery anymore, but when we're in town or driving through and the Catfish House is open, we love stopping here! If you're planning a trip to eat here, keep in mind it's only open for dinner. Catfish House is always busy when we visit, but there is plenty of seating so you usually don't have to wait for a table. When you sit down, you get slaw, hush puppies, and beans brought to the table. The slaw and the hush puppies are absolutely to die for!! The slaw very finely minced and isn't dry. The hush puppies are warm, crunchy, and flavorful. The beans are also good, but not quite as good as the slaw or the hush puppies. We usually get the catfish fillets and fries when we go. The fish is hot and well seasoned. The fries are soft on the inside but crunchy on the outside. We've also tried the fried shrimp, which were every bit as good as the catfish! Although it's usually very busy, we've always had great service from the waitstaff. During our last visit, our waitress was swamped dealing with a large and slightly demanding table, but she still managed to keep our drinks filled, bring anything we asked for, and just make sure everything was going well. The menu is fairly simple - you can order shrimp, catfish, crab legs, oysters, chicken or stuffed crab and can get the setup which comes with slaw, white beans and hush puppies (which were great). Food was okay but portion of the filets and fries were very small. We received about 10 fries and a baked potato a little larger than a bite sized with our order. We got 2 napkins (ones that came with the utensils) and when we asked for more the waitress, said I'll be right back. 15 minutes later and she still had not returned. we walked into the waitress area ourselves and got them.
