This review is primarily about the staff at this delightful restaurant. I had popped in for lunch, order the Shrimp Cobb salad. The full size is huge, fresh lettuce, tomatoes, all the Cobb add ons with delicious grilled shrimp. As I was enjoying my mid day feast, I reached for the straw in my ample sized iced tea and proceeded to tip the glass into my waiting lap. The entire staff jumped to my aid, moving me immediately to a different table and insisting on cleaning up the entire mess. They couldn't have been nicer or kinder about the entire event. Cudos to you for excellent service in the face of difficulties. I can assure you this was no small dribble, it was the entire 16 oz glass. I enjoyed my meal and I'll be back, but next time, I promise not to spill. read more

This was my first time here. I have always wanted to try it out and it didn't disappoint. We had the lunch special. Grilled shrimp with smashed potatoes and hush puppies. A really good lunch. They offer a Military discount on Mondays. The fried green tomatoes is amazingly good. I could just have had the appetizer and been happy. The cashier/waiter did a really good job and was very friendly. People like that can make a good restaurant great. It's a smaller place but a good setup. We will be back for sure! read more

The food was gold ole southern cooking. Mmmmmn. I had the red beans and rice with shrimp. It seasoned perfectly. Not too hot but yet a zing. The gumbo sampler was just enough to try and enjoy it. Was visiting Montgomery for work and wanted to try some difference than the usual downtown spots for dinner. I ordered online and picked up my order so I can't attest to the service but the lady working the desk seemed really nice and gave me my order promptly as I arrived. I ordered the combo and got mahi mahi and the wharf cakes with a side of red beans and white rice. I got the mahi mahi blackened and the wharf cakes fried. The mahi was pretty good. Paired nicely with the rice and the wharf sauce. Definitely get the wharf sauce--literally made my meal. Next time I'd probably request my mahi mahi lightly blackened since it was a bit too salty for my liking but the wharf sauce definitely helped tame it by adding some sweetness to it. The wharf cakes weren't my favorite :( idk I can't describe why I didn't like them but they just weren't that great. But like I said, the wharf sauce was my saving grace so when dipped in it they were pretty good. Red beans and rice was the usual, can't mess that up. To be honest, I do see myself coming here again tho. I think next time I'll try some more of their fried options and their sweet potatoes. Otherwise great soul food and southern restaurant! A very casual dining experience with 5 star restaurant service. The food was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The restaurant gets a superior rating for cleanliness. The manager was actually washing the baseboards during our visit. I've never encountered a service staff that exemplifies excellence and tremendous customer service, especially these days. It's hard to express how disappointed I was with my meal here tonight. The whole platter was 50/50. Either the item was great or complete ass. The good: Catfish, hushpuppies, Grouper, collard greens. The bad: Green beans, the crab cake thingy, shrimp. Middle of the road: cheese grits and salad. I ordered the crispy platter, and it was apparent they cooked everything in the same oil for the same amount of time. Crab cake was crispy outside and play doh on the inside. Shrimp was WAY over cooked, very rubbery. The green beans were the absolute worst I've ever had. They tasted like un-seasoned tubes of rubber. They even squeaked when you tried to chew them. I would have told this to management if anyone ever came to ask how the food was, but that didn't happen. Now, the stuffed grouper was really good. They should keep it on the menu. Hushpuppies were perfect. Tarter sauce was good. Cheese grits tasted pretty good. Collard greens were made with love. I wish I got those too like my wife did. This is a newer spot going through growing pains, but damn, they need to re-assess a few things. read more

I don't even know where to start....This place is such a surprise of goodness considering it is a local chain. For fast casual, this restaurant was everything. My first time in Alabama and this was the first restaurant I visited. For my order I opted for Gouda Grits, Pink Shrimp in seasoning, Friend Green tomatoes with the toppings and the fresh oysters. My favorite was the shrimp. The Red Alabama Gulf shrimp in the Wharfs special sauce was EVERYTHING...it will make you wanna lick your lips and the bowl...it was a perfect mix of spice, seasoning and love. Next up was the Fried Green tomatoes with extra..the extra included wharf sauce, feta cheese and bacon...who would've ever known these 3 things could make fried green tomatoes taste soo good...it took those tomatoes from an 8 to a 12 on a 10 pt scale. The smoked gouda grits was soo good and creamy and flavorful. The oysters were just ok... The restaurant was fast, the food delicious and the prices reasonable. I will definitely be back if I'm ever back in Alabama. read more

The gumbo was very good and the hushpuppies were wonderful! With that said - the crab cakes were awful! They are nothing but stuffing. And way too salty! At $19.99 they should be full of crab and brimming with flavor. The only way you knew there was crab in them is because of the crab shells. We also shared a margarita. That too was weird. It had a strange taste of salt or maybe it was some kind of a mix they used to make it. They need a bartender that knows how to make mixed drinks. We spent $50 for 2 meals and feel we overspent by $40. If we go again, which we doubt, I will go for the shrimp. It is harder to screw up. read more

This place was great! I sure wish I had one of these up near Philly where I live, and I don't even like seafood. That said, they could offer a few more options for non-seafood eaters and vegetarians, but we were all able to find something we could eat. I had the fried honey pecan chicken, a side of gouda grits and an extra side of the cajun corn. All of it was just delicious! One of my daughters, the vegetarian, had the Greek salad (she wasn't fond of the potato salad underneath but I brought it home and ate it later on and thought it was fabulous!) She also had the gouda grits and the corn, both of which she loved. The other four people on our party loved their food as well, and we all enjoyed the fried green tomatoes and the margaritas and other drinks that we had. You order up front, wait, get your own food, and find a seat. It's a cross between fast food and a sit down restaurant with the sit down prices. And it's not very good. The Auburn Elmore County alum group meets here and, even as a lifetime member, I cannot bring myself to eat at The Wharf. Just disappointing at Montgomery and Wetumpka locations. read more

This was a great place to eat for visitors from California. I'm not the biggest fan of chain restaurants but the quality of food and very reasonable prices outweigh that. Fried green tomatoes and shrimp & grits were two items on the menu that we don't see often back home and they were both excellent. The food all feels freshly prepared. The restaurant was very clean and the service was friendly and welcoming. A nice experience and I believe if they were to expand to Southern California, they would do very well. read more

Because I travel so much for my career, when in a city - I look for local spots and not a chain! I found this just googling & it was a very clean restaurant with very nice employees. I ordered the Destin Platter which came with Grouper, a Crab Cake, Shrimp (everything fried crispy), Hushpuppies, with 2 sides = $18.99. I got the garlic green beans with red beans and rice as my sides. Garlic green beans were great, but the red beans and rice not so much (hence the 3 star rating). I'm use to the red beans being put on top of the rice verses them being mixed together and you can't even tell if rice is within the red beans. I was very satisfied with everything else though. They also serve wine & beer which is always a plus. I would definitely visit again, but just change up my choice of side! read more

What a pleasant surprise. We stopped on our way through Montgomery having just spent a month in Florida. We still hadn't gotten our fill of seafood so the Whatf sounded good. We ordered the Whatf shrimp and grits and a side order of collard greens. The shrimp and grits came with a side of hush puppies. Every thing was really good. The grits were creamy. The shrimp had a hint of spice. The collard greens were delicious with just the right amount of vinegar. The hush puppies a nice addition to the meal. I had a very great experience for dinner. The food was superb! I ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp blackened. Very delicious. The service was good and I never ran out of that good sweet tea. I went to this place twice in a row because it was so good the first day. I ordered the red beans & rice w/shrimp & sausage plus a side of hush puppies; total w/tip & top off to charity was $22. Extremely filling & the hush puppy serving is VERY generous for just $2.50. The presentation was perfect (see picture). Besides tasting amazing, the service was top notch. Two different hosts (a gentlemen the first evening, a lady the second) with exactly the same friendliness and can-do attitude. Both made me feel like I was the only customer in the store when they helped me (they also made the other guests I observed them help feel the same). What a terrific little place this is! We were there for an early dinner on Christmas Eve. The staff was friendly and helpful and the menu was interesting and versatile, including non-seafood items such as chicken tenders, salads, and burgers. There are also lots of tasty side items and appetizers. I had the honey pecan shrimp, my husband had fried fish and fries, and my mom had the St. George's salad. All of us were happy with our choices. I do recommend looking at the online menu prior to ordering. The menu board in the restaurant doesn't include any kind of description of the items available, and the helpful employee behind the counter couldn't find the one copy of the gluten free menu. The dining room was clean and well-decorated with a typical nautical theme. We didn't visit the bathrooms. If we're ever in Montgomery again, I'd be happy to dine here. read more

This restaurant has been opened for about 2 years, and the cashier mentioned that they were planning on opening another location or two, one location in East Chase. There were a few things that I was disappointed with on this visit. One was when I placed my order. The entree's state that it comes with two sides. There is a list of regular sides and a list of premium sides for an additional $0.99. When I ordered the Cheddar Cheese Grits from the regular side, the cashier asked nonchalantly if I wanted it loaded, but failed to mention that it would be an extra charge. And nowhere on the menu does it say that either. I wish she would have disclosed that information when asking customers. The other issue I had on this visit was that the food took a very long time to be prepared. During the work days, I don't have a whole lot of time during lunch to wait around for my food. The food itself was good. We ordered the Shrimp entree with Cheddar Cheese Grits and Natural Cut Fries, as well as the Bacon Wrapped Shrimp with Garlic Green Beans and Brussels Sprouts (the brussels sprouts are an extra charge). All entrees also came with Hushpuppies. I thought the Bacon Wrapped Shrimp was well worth the extra amount I paid for it. The fries were pretty standard, but all the other sides were very good. I'm not a huge fan of hushpuppies, but they tasted ok. The interior is clean, and you order and pay at the register before you seat yourselves. Overall, as stated above, there was the omitted extra charges and slowness of the food. But I liked the food and would be willing to give the new location a chance once it opens. read more

For a regional chain restaurant I was very impressed. Staff was polite and helpful with questions about the menu. Seafood was tasty and fresh and cooked just right. Sides were very good and flavorful. The only slight disappointment were the crab cakes, they needed a little help with flavor from a dipping sauce. I expected lump crab meat but it was more shredded and seems to be the standard for the region from other places I tried crab cakes at. The store was clean and "wharf" themed but not completely tacking. I'll be stopping here again when I'm back in the area. read more

The Wharf is the perfect blend of casual dining and atmosphere with more upscale choices like Lobster tails and salmon. Order at the counter and have a seat. Bookmarked this restaurant as a spot I must try while I was visiting. I was hoping the food was going to be worth it! First it's in a shopping plaza. Luckily it's situated on the corner. Easy to spot from the street. The inside atmosphere is definitely casual. Nothing too spiffy, but nice. I was indecisive as to what I wanted to try. I ordered a combo with blackened mahi mahi and shrimp. My sides were the garlic green beans and the mayo based sweet cole slaw. The serving amount was worth the $14.99 + tax. My disappointment was that I wanted fried shrimp. I was told I couldn't mix the cooking style. That's dumb! Don't you have to cook it anyway??? Lost one star. I didn't order anything to.drink, but they have a varied selection. Soda, lemonade, tea, beer, sangria! I really wanted a sangria...next time I'm visiting I'll have a glass and it was only $3. Callie answered our questions, and made some great suggestions. We ordered blackened grouper and grilled Catfish, and they were awesome. We also ordered fried green tomatoes as an appetizer, and we were very pleased with the taste, texture, and flavor. My blackened fish was cooked perfectly. Our food was hot and presented nicely on our plates. We ordered Pecan pie and it was first served to us cold in a styrofoam to go container. I don't know if Callie thought we were taking it with us. I would pick Wharf Seafood over some other places like Capitol Oyster House. It feels fresh and clean. The service isn't bad but they usually only have 2 people taking orders, delivering food and clearing tables. Military discount is offered on Mondays. - Fish Sandwich (fried, grilled or blackened tilapia): I chose the blacked fish and a half a filet came on a soft brioche bun with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and onions. It was delicious. I wish there was more fish. And the collard greens are good but like typical Montgomery style, it was salty for me. - Tacos: Be sure to ask for the lunch portion if you'd like 2 tacos versus the full 3 taco serving. Visiting family in Montgomery for the weekend and was looking for a quick lunch. The Wharf hit the spot and then some. Luckily we were able to come at a time when the lunch rush was over (approximately 1:30pm). So our orders were taken quickly and we were able to find seating. The Wharf has a wide variety of menu options to fit everyone's tastes for seafood, or chicken. There are also ample alcohol options as well. After about a 10 minute wait our food arrived. I ordered the grilled catfish basket and my dining partner the fried catfish basket. The fried catfish basket had slightly more fish than my grilled offering but honestly one catfish fillet was enough. The catfish was great but my order of greens as a side really made the meal. Overall, the Wharf was a great experience and I will visit again the next time I am in town. read more
