My parents don't speak English. They waited for two hours and I didn't say anything. Then today I called to ask why the car didn't come. He said if you didn't answer the phone at 6:30, it didn't come. I said you can call again. He said you called the insurance company and he didn't know to hang up. They called me this afternoon and said a woman would call and ask when you will be back and their company car will come. I said my mother is on IV and I don't know when. Can I call you half an hour in advance? They said yes. Later when I called, the man who answered the phone said our company doesn't do business with you. What kind of company is it? Don't call a car from their company. If there is a 0 star, I won't give them a single star. read more

I used Cathay for many years. This time when I called, a woman answered & I asked for John, who I have delt with for many years. The woman asked me "Cash or Insurance?" I explained that I was going to try to figure out which if I could speak to John. She refused to alert him that I called & continued to ask me "Insurance or cash?". I explained that John always gives me a deal & he allows the van to wait for me an extra hour for $60.00 cash BOOM! She hung up while I was trying to explain to her. I called back because I thought we got disconnected & BOOM, she hung up again. I called one last time & asked for John & a guy answered, it wasn't John. So I said "That woman just hung up on me twice while I was trying to get John who schedules my trips all the time. He asked the same question of me "Cash or insurance?" So I started explaining to him & he hung up on me. His name started with an F I believe, he hung up on me too quick to hear when I asked "what's your name?". The old owners were Asian, and they had manners, respect etc.. That all went out the window with these new owners. was Frank. I will never use these people again. New rude owners. The Personnel at Cathay ( drivers, service reps, assistants etc.) we're all very professional. I've used this service twice now on recommendation by a friend who uses them regularly. They we're very punctual, knowledgeable about manipulating patient who was not mobile, courteous and professional . I would wholeheartedly recommend this company to anyone concerned with transporting a person/patient needing to be brought to an appointment but is not an emergency, as their title suggests. I advised her I would see her company in court, yet she (mareka?) still called me, harassing me. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! you will be litigating like me for your refund. "On June 15th of 2018 we have receieved a call from you to book a trip from pickup location ... heading to the hospital for special surgery on 520 E 70th St New York NY 10021. This was the exact address provided over through the phone to us as the destination. We make frequent rounds to this hospital on a daily basis and this is definitely not a street corner. .... Once the passenger is inside the grounds of the hospital it would not be our responsibility to know the where about of the passenger. We have completed our services for transportation." UMM- Cathay (specifically Mareka the customer service person who kept calling and harassing) - you didn't drop him to Hospital for Special Surgery- you morons. You dropped him on the street- an 84 year old man in a walker. He was lost for 90 minutes and ended up in New York Hospital- NOT HSS. Your driver's own documentation says they dropped him off at 66th Street. He was not dropped at HSS. The surgeon was searching and calling for him for 90 minutes. Check with the surgeon!!! Your drivers were inept. Plus- your response is fraudulent. I'm providing this info to folks out there so you know what you are dealing with. read more

I had a very stressful task to accomplish and Cathy provided the service for a reasonable price. Pros were the driver was early to arrive but the vehicle was very bumpy. Mom was in wheelchair and felt every bump. The driver did his very best but the vehicle was not top of the line. Think it may need tune up and new shock absorbers? I am now my Father's sole care-taker. He is a double-amputee and is wheelchair bound. He broke his left arm on November 16th (he's left handed) and when he was discharged from the hospital, I didn't know how I was going to be able to transport him from the hospital to the skilled nursing facility for rehab. I was given a number for Cathay Express and talked to Lisa. She was just the best. She booked everything and then when Kaiser took forever to discharge my Father, she made sure the right van and driver were available, by actually calling someone back to work for night transport. I called her again for my Dad's appointment today at the Kaiser facility an hour away from me. Our driver, Jay, pretty much did everything for my Dad - including wheeling him where ever he needed to go. He didn't just take him out the van and hand him over to me. Cathay Express and Lisa an d Jay (our driver) were life-savers for me when I was feeling very lost in how to handle things and my Dad got the best care I could hope for. Cathay made a very difficult process as smooth as possible. They were available last minute and still were on time with pick up. The facility I was transferring my parent from made the ambulette wait an hour but Cathay called me and told me what was going on and for an additional $60 charge stayed until the facility finally got him into the ambulette. The ambulette was clean and the driver extremely professional. Our trip was cumbersome since we were going from NY to NJ but they were kind and considerate. I highly recommend them. read more

Do not even consider calling this company if you need to transport an elderly loved one to and from appointments. My 91-year-old mother, who uses a wheelchair and is very fragile, due to a heart condition, needed to be brought to and from an appointment at a hospital. Things started out ok--The dispatcher called to confirm the pickup and the driver called when he was outside my mother's apartment building. The driver was on time too, though the ambulette itself was filthy inside and out. When we got to the hospital, the driver and I agreed on a pickup time and location. I did not take his cell number because I knew he had mine and because I had easily communicated with the dispatcher several times. My fault: I should have taken the driver's cell, but I was so preoccupied with my mother, I didn't take that extra step. Once the appointment was over--and it was a difficult procedure, so mom was even more fragile--we went to the appointed spot, but the driver wasn't there. I called the dispatcher, but the phone did not even ring--all I heard was "hold" music. I kept calling, looking out for the driver, but nothing changed. No driver, no answer from the dispatcher. We waited for an hour and fifteen minutes before we were able to find a guy with a wheelchair-accessible taxicab who would pick us up and bring us home. On the way home, I got a call from the driver (at this point, an hour and 45 minutes late) saying he was at the hospital, ready to pick us up. No apology or explanation for keeping a 91-year-old woman in a wheelchair waiting in the cold. Later, I tried to call to register a complaint, but the number still wasn't working--just that same, infuriating hold music. My guess is that this service is sometimes just fine. But I wouldn't dream of risking it again. read more

They don't check the patients comments like what the patients have to be aware of. Some patient have to ride alone but they always put with other patients and unable to make it on time. Horrible service! Drivers do not treat elderly blind disabled patients with care and respect. Yells at patient and just drops off without letting them know where they are exactly. My father had to yell out asking to whoever was around to find out where he was left. It was actually recorded and it was left as a message on my cell phone. Do not use this place. Extremely reliable service. Hired Cathay to take my grandmother for her weekly dialysis appointments from Flushing to Manhattan. Drivers came on time and helped my wheelchair bound mother inside the vehicle using some type of lift. Very satisfied with the services I received and the rates are great. read more

This is the worst and most unreliable service I have ever taken. My fiance and I are currently waiting in the rain for the ambulette service. The reservation was taken and not honored by any means. My fiance is in a wheelchair and reserved a pick up for 3. There was no answer til 5, when we were told the driver would arrive at 530pm due to traffic. It is 7 and no one is answering. Whenbthey answered they told me they saw my reservation but could not call to find the location of driver, but could reserve another pick up 2 hours later. Altogether we have been waiting in the rain and my fiance in a wheelchair fresh out of surgery for 4 hours. I am disgusted. We are still wait8ng outside of now the closed clinic...DOES NO ONE GIVE A SHIT read more

I cannot believe all of the positive reviews! If you don't feel like reading my entire review, the short story is I wouldn't recommend an enemy who can walk use their services, let alone someone I love who is disabled. We booked Cathay Express Transportation via their website and John. Pleasant enough experience. The transportation arrived 15 minutes late (no biggie, we planned to leave earlier than needed). It was not an ambulette, it was a green taxi minivan (literally, the ones you hail); ok fine no problem we got in the car. The car broke down one block from the house. Things happen we know, but I don't think I would trust a company that doesn't regularly service their cars (and how are there no signs of the car breaking down before getting to us- fishy). Next car takes over an hr to get to us; we end up 2 hours late to the appointment. The real problems started when trying to book a return trip. John and the driver told us to call about an hour before leaving to book the return trip. So we call and someone answers and patches us through to the "dispatcher", who did not answer for over 8 minutes. When she did answer, she said she could not understand me and could not find the patient... then she hung up on me. I will spare you the details of the next hour, which involved calling repeatedly, waiting longer than 10 minutes at a time to speak to a dispatcher, and being hung up on at various times as well as leaving multiple voicemails to the company with no response. Finally a man answered the main number and told me there would be a car arriving in 30 minutes (great!). We waited another 3 hours and called another 10 or so times before just calling another cab company. Lucky us, we got charged for the entire trip. This was a terrible experience and neither I nor the patient have ever felt more dehumanized in our lives. To look down upon and not care about people, especially those who are disabled is so disheartening. All in all, very disappointed and sad. I hope my review helps you make your decision. read more

This company deserves to go out of business immediately. When I requested a round trip to Long Island, they quoted me a price of $100, round trip. However, I received two automatically generated email receipts. one for $500 and another for $60. When I spoke to the very rude company representative on the phone, he blatantly lied to me and said that I had authorized the much higher payments, and that he had a recording of the interaction, neither of which was true. I asked for a copy of the recording, which he promised to email to me, but never did, obviously because there was never any such recording. However, I do have a tape, and if the exorbitant charges that were never authorized, are not immediately returned to me,then I will take action in court. I needed to change my account, lest this company steals even more of my hard-earned money. Fortunately, the bank will be investigating. Of course, the same representative with whom I spoke hung up the phone on me. Please, I implore all others who had similar experiences, or in any way were mistreated by this company, please take action, until this company is permanently shut down and the criminal representatives prosecuted. Thank You! If you believe that you have been ripped off by this company, and it is clear that many people have, I hope that you'll consider working together to file a class action suit, no only so that we can all get back what we deserve, but so that no one else will have to go through this ordeal. Do not use Cathay Transportation! Called today to complain about a $100 charge. Was told it was a cancellation fee. I have used Cathay for years and cancelled many trips and have never paid a cancellation fee or been informed of one. The funny thing is when I called to cancel I was informed that they had no record of me scheduling a trip. I told John, who was extremely rude and disrespectful, to pull the telephone call since all calls are taped. Of course he refused to do it since he knows the truth. To my surprise, he hung up on me!!!!! How rude and unprofessional!! Since this company is under new management, they have gone downhill quickly! Will not use them again and advise no one else to. If you are looking for a medical transport service for wheelchair bound persons, this is the place to choose! My husband had dual knee replacement surgery and was in extreme pain when he had to return to the doctor to remove the stitches. Our driver Rapheal was truly an angel. He arrived early. Knew how to manage a wheelchair with curbs and ramps. He chose the route that would be the most comfortable and made a conscious effort to avoid bumps that would cause discomfort. His level of care and expertise were extraordinary! Call during business hours to work with John who is incredibly supportive and will organize transport times and locations. Can't say enough good things about this company and have booked them for our return appointments to the doctors office next week. read more

They dropped me! Mt Sinai recommended them, with the following stipulations they would get me up four flight or stairs . The price was double any other company. After surgery they picked me up and delivered me to my apartment. The one small gentle man had no idea they were supposed to get me up four flights or stairs. Called the dispatched and it was confirmed. My height and weight had been relayed to the company. Then we waited 20 minutes for help to arrive from another driver. When we entered my apartment they could not even get me DOWN two stairs and need assistance of my partner (three people). They dropped the wheelchair on my partners foot. They dropped the chair with three people going down two steps. How were two small gentleman who had English as a second language going to get me up four flights of stairs (16 stairs x 4 flights = 64 stairs) We called the company and complained and were instructed the owner would call me back today, close of business and no phone call today Mt Sinai said they had good reviews of them and were apologetic about the incident. The operators of Cathay Express were careless, inattentive, rude, and their system is chaotic and primitive. We made five phone calls, repeating basic info every time. We were made to wait for nearly an hour before the cab showed up even though the operator said no more than 20 minutes waiting. The operators do not seem know the basics of their job. I used Cathay Express yesterday for the first time. Very good experience. Driver was right on time to take my dad to his doctor's appointment 15 minutes away. A vehicle with wheelchair access was required and the one that was sent was just what was needed. The driver was very pleasant, courteous and accommodating. When we called for the driver to come for the return trip, they arrived in 7 minutes, could not have asked for more. We will certainly use them in the future when the need arises. read more

Quoted price was about half of another company I called and they had a very reasonable cancellation fee (other company charged full cost of trip if cancelled once reservation was made). Unfortunately, due to illness, the patient was not able to make the trip so I can't vouch for that end of the service read more

My family and I had the worse experience with Cathay Express Transportation. First off, they should really take out the word express in their name because they are far from providing fast service. I called to request a ride for my grandma to return home from a doctor's appointment. The representative told me the car would arrive in 25 minutes. We waited for over 45 minutes to find out that one of the key functions of the car and the main reason why we needed this car service was not working (wheelchair accessibility) and the driver drove off. The driver then told Cathay that we did not show and that's why he was unable to pick us up. If I didn't call back to reassure we needed another car , I don't know how much longer we would be waiting. The representative said it will take 15 minutes for the next driver to arrive. After 30 minutes of waiting, I called for the ETA of the driver. Not only did they ignore my request, they hung up on me. When we were finally on the road, the driver was very aggressive and made a lot of sudden stops. At this point, I became furious. My grandmother is 95 years old and can not take all of this unnecessary tension. We waited for more than 2 hours for Cathay and will never take this car service again. I would recommend taking Diane Trips for good customer service and drivers that truly care about their customers! read more
