I visited Cathy's Beauty Supply in Stockton, CA [1032 E Hammer Ln] on Tuesday, 08/18/26, around 10:30 AM. Similar to my previous review 5 years ago, this beauty supply store is convenient whenever you have to find certain hair products, and need any additional items, such as makeup, jewelry, etc. I don't come here often since I order most hair products online. However, Cathy's comes in clutch when needed. The customer service is decent and straightforward. Some items are a tad pricey. Parking is very easy and accessible. I went into this store on Monday, my hair is falling out and I had no idea about wigs. The woman in the shop helped me she showed me wigs and taught me what to do and she was so kind to me especially since loosing my hair is hard and embarrassing, this woman made me feel good and I needed that. I going back today to look at some different wigs. This place is awesome. read more

The business owner (was not visibly in the store either of the two times I entered the store yesterday, probably watched the cameras after seeing this review) responded to my experience by publicly criticizing me as a patron of his business rather than addressing the service being provided in his absence. So again, customer service. I purchased 7 products (8 items total). I asked for the location of 3 products. One of which I had never seen before. Again, this was my FIRST TIME in this store. And I was rushing. Maybe I should have come at a time that I did not have to rush. But there was only one other person shopping while I was inside the store. And it's reasonable to expect the people working in the store to know where the items can be located and direct a new customer to them without complaining and talking crap to each other about the customer not knowing where to find products. I read the reviews, but I think some of them may be older ones, because I've only been treated with kindness while visiting the store. They have always been helpful and respectful to me. They have answered all of my questions and assisted me with care. I have visited several times in the last two years. I will continue going to this store, because I live in another city and I cannot find the hair care products I need for my hair in my home town. read more

Young helped me try on wigs because I'm getting surgery and will need to cover my hair to feel a sense of normalcy. He was so nice. They have so many types of wigs and are super knowledgeable. I recently moved to Stockton and I needed to find a beauty supply store. My cousin recommended this place out of several beauty supplies I've been to in this city. I've walked into several places and turned right back around and left! From not acknowledging me when I walk in, to hawking and being watched while I shopped! My first impression of Cathy's was it was clean and organized! My second impression was being acknowledged as I walked in! I received a genuine welcome and I didn't feel watched as I shopped for what I needed! As long as I'm in Stockton, I will always get my beauty supplies from this place! read more

Been going here for years. It's one thing to own a beauty supply but it's another to own one and know your product. I'm an African American woman and these people here can answer questions about products with the same knowledge as me. I respect them for that. I'm sure they dislike the people in the community they serve but they are located across from the hood. Most shopping stores in that area have been closed down due to theft but they are still going strong and show respect to the customers. The hair dye is cheaper here than Sally's. This has to be my favorite beauty supply. I've moved out of town multiple times and still will always come back to Cathy's. read more

Drove out from the Bay Area to make a stop at this place. The owners were nice and the don was very helpful, he knew the hair products and was very honest on what was best for your money. Being that I wear braids the brand I use RastaFri was the same price I pay in Hayward for a tri pack, however the people I was with wanted weave hair and it's much cheaper at this place vs in the Bay Area? Someone in a earlier post said this place was black owned it is not but that's not why I don't like it. I used to go there for 2 years they were friendly to me then one day the Beeper goes off he thinks I've stolen something asked me to open my purse I told him I don't have to but I will once I do and you see that I have stolen nothing I will never step foot in here again if you don't trust me it's your choice he decided to search of course found nothing and I haven't been back since. read more

Their products are overpriced and they don't offer returns. You're better off finding several products online for the price of one of their wigs! I understand that's what keeps the business afloat, but $79.99 for a mixed synthetic wig is BS. Never stepping foot back into that store! read more

This is my go to for lashes, they have a large assortment and the price is very very reasonable. I have purchased extensions from here once and they were the wrong size. They let me return and exchange with no problems at all. I've also purchased wave caps, edge combs and many other products. They usually are very friendly people and never had any issues with them. read more

Gave me a very racist vibe although they're "black owned". I thought I was going to be embraced but instead a young black worker in the store followed me and my friend and stared at us until we were done making a purchase. I felt racially profiled by a fellow member of the black community. She was very addiment about making us use a basket. I felt worst at this store than at any store owned by other races. It was disappointing feeling that I had to hold out my hands to prove I don't steal. They should not have the privilege of calling theirselves black owned if they treat their black customers as thieves. read more

Man, I haven't even gotten a chance to go into the store but I called to get the price on some hair. The guy was very rude and when I asked the price he said he was too busy restocking to check the actual price for me. Then when I asked him how am I supposed to know the price if he doesn't even know he told me what lengths they sold and hung up on me. Advice: Be nice to the customers because they are the ones that keep the business open for you. His rudeness made it so I'm never going into their store. read more

Don't waste your time. Very rude service. Don't know their products. Followed me around the store but couldn't answer any of my questions. And refused to show me any hair behind the counter. I agree with the earlier post. They are highly overpriced. They treat you like you are trying to steal something. The Move into a predominantly African American populated city. they are rude and unfair n disrespectful. there was a wig i wanted priced at $40 on the shelf. i asked for a darker color n his son gave it to me. the father spoke in their native language to take that price off. i told him i wanted it n that by law he had to let me get it. he said no n scrapped that $40 price off then he put $72.99. i will no longer deal with them nor will my friends will either. also i will be making a complaint to the better business bureau read more

Very very poor service and when you try to tell them about their products they argue with you I thought the customer was always right? My aunt bought some hair from them their son or nephew or whoever he is told her it was 100% human that she could wash and flat iron it mind you the hair is curly and when she did wash it and try to flat iron it, it was stiff and matted like synthetic hair she was so displeased she didn't even want a refund or exchange she just simply wanted to show them the product their employee sold them and they were rude and sarcastic and plainly just did not care my aunt spent well over $100 there and when she came in she was very professional she wasn't loud, rude, or nasty with them as they were with us I would not recommend going to them and not to mention the hair was shedding before she could even get it put in her head they are very unprofessional people and in my opinion they are racist and they racial profile you.
