This updated rating has nothing to do with the care of my cats but issues with Susan. Two months ago, I needed cat sitting so I scheduled via Susan's portal. The day I was slated to leave my flight time changed so I advised Susan that am that if it worked for her I actually didn't need sitting that day-- she told me to mention changes of plans in the past in the event it works for her but no guarantees of cancelling/credit if it was less than 24 hrs notice. She responded with a one liner that she'd still be coming that am--no problem just informing her per her prior request to. Fast forward to the last day of cat sitting. I had gotten very ill with food poisoning while traveling and missed part of my daughter's graduation weekend having to head home early. I didn't mention it to Susan because #1- I was very sick #2 she was kinda short in her message to me the few days before when I followed her instructions to let her know of any changes. She showed up and I hauled myself out of bed to let her know I was upstairs and back early sick and she was startled. Then she practically scolded me in my own home for not telling her because she had some other cat in her care she needed to take to the vet for an emergency. So I said if there was an emergency and she needed to go that was ok or she could stay as scheduled. Up to you I said. She chose to leave. Fast forward to last week. I asked if I could use the credit from the visit she left to cat sit this week. She replied that I had no credit and she wasn't available anyway-- again very short. When I reminded her she chose for a day I paid for she wrote some nonsense that she had already tended to the ill cat, was surprised by me being home and that she doesn't cat sit with anyone in the house. I didn't even come downstairs I was too sick. Anyway, message received. You want things your way and have no real concern for your clients. I requested my key back but she did not respond. After a few days I tried to message her but she blocked me from her portal. I texted her and she wrote that she'd be sending the key back with a check for the day she chose to leave. Good but I'm sorry, you have a key to someone's house and you don't respond to them for days and only when they contact you again that's really wrong. Anyway-- wouldn't recommend her because of her lack of professionalism and self serving attitude. read more

We've been using her services since 2021, most recently for half the month of February, and have always felt confident, and comforted, that our two boys were being very well cared for. We especially love how much time is spent with social interaction--this isn't someone who just pops in, puts down some food, cleans the litter box and leaves. There's lots of play and love, and you can see how everyone's doing from the many pictures that are sent with each visit. How wonderful it is to wake up and see how happy your fur babies are! We have had the joy of using Susan's services for many years and often on vacations that have taken us out of the country for more than two weeks. We never, ever had one second of worry about our beloved cat while she was in charge. She keeps us up to date with photos, information, and daily happenings. We always come home to a very happy cat (ours is extra social) and a tidy home. She does so much more than just make sure our cat has food, water, and a clean box. She makes sure that he is content. Besides the daily brushings, which he loves, there is fun play time as well. On our last trip, she figured out that our cat would benefit from changing the location of his highest cat tower to an area where she could temporarily open the slider so he could hear all the birds. With it closed when she was gone, he had a much better view. Susan is most definitely a "cat person" who gets to know your pet on a personal level. On the one hand, Susan, the owner of Cats by the Coast, has done a decent job of caring for our cats on several occasions. She gives us daily detailed updates on their feeding and litter box habits along with pictures from her visit. She'll also bring in delivered packages, water plants, take out trash cans, etc. On the other hand -- During our recent 2-week trip our cat was vomiting multiple times a day and not eating. I asked Susan to be sure to check both downstairs and upstairs every day for vomit. When my daughter stopped by to visit she found two areas of vomit upstairs that didn't look fresh. Susan claimed that that was the only day she hadn't checked upstairs, yet during past trips my daughter has found the same thing. Another big "on the other hand": One week into our two week trip I became worried about the fact that our cat was vomiting so much and wasn't comfortable with him being unwatched for 23 1/2 hours a day because I feared he was I'll so I asked Susan to transport him to the vet's and leave him there. As it turned out I was right and he was quite ill and ended up with a diagnosis of cancer. He ended up staying in the hospital (as opposed to the "boarding" section) for 8 days. Susan charged me $60 for taking him to the vet, which was fine as I was expecting that. What I wasn't expecting was that she would consider that a "cancellation" and not refund me for the 7 days of service she was paid for but wouldn't be providing. When I asked her if she could take the $60 out of the $196 I'd paid her for the rest of the days we'd be gone she said she "couldn't do that" and referred me to the cancellation policy on her website. I think there's a difference between canceling because I've changed my mind and "canceling" because my cat is very ill and needs to be hospitalized. She owns the company and there's no reason why she "couldn't do that" if she chose to. Also, she may take care of your cat but she doesn't really care about them. After telling her my cat was quite ill with either a massive infection or, possibly, cancer, she never once followed up to ask how he was doing, during the 7 days I was still paying her for or any time thereafter. She's strictly business, no compassion. My cat won't be around for our next trip but even if he were, under no circumstances would I use Cats by the Coast. I'd use someone who truly cares. read more

I recently used cats by the coast as I had an out of town business trip. I met with the lovely owner suzanne, and introduced her to my senior Maine Cooney, miss kitty. She immediately bonded with her and I could tell she was a real animal person. It takes one to know one. She would send me videos and photos to keep me up to date on miss kitty. She cleaned litter box and watered my plants. My cat was happy when I got home and could tell she had been very well cared for. I highly recommend cats by the coast for your kitties. Well worth the money, but most important peace of mind leaving a pet for a few days. read more

Susan has been taking care of our family cat VIto since she started her business! VITO is my pride an joy, I am fanatical about the level of care he receives when I'm away. Before Susan, I had my daughter's friends etc care for him; all the while worried that he would somehow slip out a door when they were not paying attention. Now, I never have that worry. Susan gets it! She is a devoted cat lover herself. It's more than a business, cats are her passion. She approaches her business in a very professional manner with a lot of love for the cats! Susan completes all the tasks left for her and also gives VIto a lot of TLC on her visit. She always checks in via texting to let me know he's doing well and all is safe and sound at home. Sweetest of all are the photos she sends to us while away! We always love to get a photo of our big baby cat! I feel completely confident having Susan in my home caring for our most precious Vito Cheeto. I love him so much and she cares for him like one of her own! We have used Suzanne to watch our "jerky" cat Leia several times now. She takes excellent care of her and communicates (sends pics and lets us know how she's doing) with us every day. They are even friends by the end of our vacation. We've tried boarding her and while the local boarders are really very nice, i think most cats tend to prefer being in their own space (the last time we picked her up from the boarder they called her Linda Blair ). She seems a lot more content when we get home when Suzanne has watched her vs. when she's gone to a boarder. I would definitely recommend Cats By the Coast! read more

Susan takes wonderful care of our four kitties when we are away. They come out of the woodwork and give up their naps to greet her when she arrives. She shares daily photos and updates to give us peace of mind and the kitties are absolutely calm and relaxed when we come home. She customizes the care to suit our cats' personal quirks, such as making sure our shy kitty, Zoe, gets some alone time with her own bowl and giving each kitty special attention, from cuddling the cuddlers to chin scratching or back stroking those who prefer to be petted. She even brings special toys with her for play time. She also does a great job of "house watching," from leaving lights on or off as requested to bringing in packages and mail. Susan took such great care of our kitties this past week. She kept our kitties happy with lots of play time including walking our young male cat outside on a leash which he's used to and loves. She brought all packages and mail in and offered to water any plants if we needed it. And she even brought our house key back the day after we came home. Susan is absolutely THE BEST. I used her for the first time while away for Christmas. She took excellent care of my 2 kitties, sent me updates and pictures twice a day. For the first time EVER when I got home the kitties did not punish me by ignoring me for the first day. They were so playful and happy when I got home it was obvious that they had a great time with Susan. My cleaning lady came this morning and when Sandi heard the back door she went running and I think it was because she thought it would be Susan. Usually she hides when she hears someone come in. We have had Susan watch our Siamese and Bengal for two different vacation weeks, and are thrilled by the level of care they receive. Every morning we would receive photos (some of which were rather good portraits) and an occasional video showing the cats contentedly eating and enthusiastically playing: the Bengal in particular tends to be very skittish, we were afraid she might just hide, but in fact Susan is so skilled and engaging that the Bengal clearly enjoyed her visits.
