We were out for a Sunday drive and this place came up on Yelp as we were looking for some breakfast. When I saw all the motorcycles parked outside I knew it would be my kind of place. When I was still riding with my friends we always looked for great weekend breakfast spots. Nothing fancy, just good foos and good folks. That is what this place is... very nice folks serving a great breakfast. One of those places I will keep in mind if were are ever in the neighborhood again. My wife and her family have been coming here for over 50 years. I was introduced to this amazing food spot them. We married 15 years ago. We come here with the kids several time every year for nostalgia's sake. The food is always consistent and fantastic. The service is great even when they are busy. You'll have great convos with your table-neighbors as an added bonus. Today's visit was pretty cool. The lady next to us had ties to my wife's family. Brought tears to her eyes. I ride with my Harley brothers often. This is always on the route when we pass through here. Definitely worth a visit! read more

THE SCENE It's so strange how life works. I did everything humanly possible to get a great restaurant list for my vacation in Dallas only to have a random person suggest a place off the grid and have THEE BEST experience. I had so many suggestions and visited several places, but no place on my list really gave me that 5 star satisfaction. Granted, I avoided the more yelpy restaurants, but I still thought I would find some great gems in the North East burbs. Our friends run a home daycare and one of the parents suggested Cattleman's for dinner. She was so excited with the suggestion, she came along. I've been looking forward to my trip for months. My desire since the very early planning stages was to find a local one-of-a-kind place that would give me a great Texas feel. Someplace that if I were a ranch hand or local landowner I would go to for lunch and friendly service. The local fire chief was there and welcomed us to come over to the fire station after our meal to let the kids explore the trucks and maybe slide down a pole. They were getting ready for a carnival tomorrow and were prepping all the trucks. We didn't have time to take him up on the offer, but were moved by the invitation. We also met several other very friendly people during our visit, but one guy and his wife took the cake. They were thoroughly thrilled with all my picture taking and gave us a list of suggestions around the state and country! He was a truck driver you see and enjoys food as much or more than I do! We laughed, talked back and forth from table to table and soon the other diners were laughing and joined in. His wife had one of those laughs that just makes you laugh back. She was so much fun, it was a blast! This was truly an awesome foodie experience and my friends (whom we were visiting in McKinney) finally saw why we enjoy yelping so much. They said, "I get it now. It's not just the food, it's the whole experience of meeting people you enjoy." BINGO THE FOOD I know I'm in Texas and should have gone for the BBQ or Steak, but I was more than pleased with my catfish selection. It was absolutely delicious, as well as my corn, mashed potatoes and red beans. My wife loved her salad, kids loved their nuggets and everyone had wonderful things to say when our meal came to it's end. THE VERDICT I'VE BEEN A REGULAR YELPER NOW FOR EXACTLY ONE YEAR TODAY! And I must be honest... I'm just not a fancy schmancy sort of eater. So I took a risk during this vacation and avoided the popular Yelp places in favor of places we discovered in random conversation. I purposefully tried to go to places I felt would give me the whole Texas experience. Although many places were a miss, this was our final night in Texas and it couldn't have been any more perfect. Just like school cafeteria food! Inattentive service, didn't feel welcome. Long wait to get acknowledged on a quiet Tuesday early afternoon. Salad from a bag, mashed potatoes from a box, gravy from a jar, green beans from a can... no steak in the smothered steak, just ground hamburger shaped into an oval. The Texas toast was regular sized bread slathered in margarine--I could taste it--and a teeny bit of garlic powder. Do they do any real cooking or just dump packaged food and heat? Totally not worth the money and clearly only in business because there's little else for miles and miles. read more

Every Saturday morning I am in for the breakfast... And one or two nights a month. The establishment has character, and the staff are warm & friendly. Breakfast is what you would expect from home cooking, and the chicken fried steak is not to be skipped on. Dinner time? Three sides plus a healthy portion of whatever the main is. Limited menu of about a dozen options means everything is a special and done right. Call if you are driving in late, their hours are not big city. read more

Update 11/6/15: I got a birthday meal voucher in the mail. You know I can't say no to a free meal:) So out to Blue Ridge we go. This time they had a catfish special going. I got the side salad (all iceberg, nothing else...meh), red beans (pintos), and spinach (canned). But the actual fish was good. Place was packed and hubs got the burger and said that's what everyone should get. For some weird reason they don't allow you to order onion rings on Friday nights. WTF? Anyway, the saving grace was they finally had my buttermilk pie. And that, to me, is the only reason to come out. I love this whole hole in the wall vibe, but other than the pie, there's nothing I'd come all the way out here for. But if you are in the area, it's worth a pie stop. read more

Everything is absolutely delicious. The CFS is stellar. Burgers are really good if you are not as hungry. Worth the drive from Bonham.

Hmmmmm.......I see lots of glowing reviews but am not sure why.Not certain how it could warrant a 5 star review, sorry to say. Like the previous poster that gave it one star, I agree completely. Prob the most bland chicken fried steak and onion rings I have ever tasted, hands down. It was like I was eating water except my arteries are probably all clogged now. I am always looking to give the benefit of the doubt and want more than anything to give a great review but in this case, no go. I literally couldn't get over how flavorless those onion rings were. I spent the rest of the evening thinking about it and it almost made me laugh out loud. The sides were also nothing to write home about. Salad was mostly iceberg lettuce, mashed potatoes from a mix and spinach was that flat tasting canned spinach that even Popeye woulda passed on. The atmosphere wasn't terrible and the service was friendly and quick enough but unfortunately even they couldn't save such a dismal meal. It was a real insult to food. Sorry Cattleman. read more

My family and I went here on Saturday evening for my father-in-law's birthday. He picked the place, as he has driven passed it a few times on his way home from work. My wife and I read the reviews before we went and didn't have great expectations, but we went knowing what kind of food it would be so tried to have an open mind. Lets start with the food. I had the blue ridge burger and it pretty decent. But the fries were very cold, so much so my 4 year old son, who loves his fries, wouldn't even eat them. My wife had there famous chicken fried steak and was what everyone else says... it was ok. Pretty bland really. The gravy should have helped but alas, it did not..also bland. If it was well seasoned it would have been good though. Really my main concern was the service. It was awful. They had one poor lady trying to keep up with the whole dinning room, with the help of some high school girls that had no idea how to be a server. We ordered the fried pickles and they arrived after our meal. Now i did notice they where super friendly with the locals and gave them much better service. So i guess it depends on who you are. Since we only live about 15 minutes away..in Princeton, i was hoping it would be good...at least good enough to visit from time to time without having to drive to McKinney, but alas it was not ment to be. My father-in-law liked it though so u get 2 stars for making his birthday, good enough. read more

First time here, the chicken fried steak was one of the best I've had. Comes with three sides and a piece of garlic toast. I can't wait to go back and try a burger they looked great and The breakfast looks great also. The service was great, we got there late and could not try the pies as they had sold out. Service was respectable though I wasn't offered water while I waited for my food which was yo go. The establishment had that little town charm. Food was trash. Chicken Fried Steak was huge...all dough. Mash potatoes was smooth, no flavor. Green beans, no flavor. Chef was in the back eating while he was preparing my meal, no gloves, no mask. Great down home cooking for decent prices. We've been here several times since moving to the area and food has always been great. On occasion there is a need for a vent a hood when cooking up fried things, it kind of smokes up the place and makes the atmosphere not as pleasant. And it would be nice to have a change up in sides a little more often. BUT other then that we've always had a pretty good experience. read more

Based on what I had read online, I had high expectations that this would be one of those unique cafes that does something worth telling all my friends and fellow foodies. Alas, it was not. I had read good things about the CFS. But the beef cutlet needed to be pounded out a bit more. It was a bit tough and too thick. The crunchy batter was good, but one should be able to eat a CFS without a knife. Mashed potatoes were not very warm. Pinto beans were spot on good, as was the toast. I'm a bit of a CFS snob, having visited Mary's Cafe in Strawn several times and being a regular at Babe's. With some tweaks and consistency, this could be a place to re-visit. read more

There were a lot of little things that made me leave there not wanting to go back. Overpriced breakfast ($10 for an omelette with no meat, hasbrowns, and toast), they stop serving breakfast at 10:45 on the dot (we felt very rushed to hurry and get our order in and in a small cafe I don't see what the rush is), mediocre food, not an overly friendly atmosphere, no water brought with coffee, super watery ketchup, I asked if they had high chairs and was told where they were by the waitress so I could get it myself, etc. Nothing major but not worth going back. Terrible service from an extremely unfriendly staff. Multiple times trying to achieve a different experience yet it only seems to have gotten worse. The food is similar to if a fast food place served "home cooked meals" and the staff is extremely rude. Being one of the only places to choose from in town we have given this business multiple tries yet it's always the same outcome. We would rather drive to the next town and spend more money having better service and better quality of food. read more

I have been eating here since 1991. It has changed owners several times since then. Seems to lose something every time. Something happened about 6 months ago. The old standby sandwiches are gone. Lots of foo-foo stuff. Prices up about 50%. Waiting staff rude and unpleasant. Quality of the food has gone down. Plenty of better places to eat in Farmersville, Princeton, and Wylie. Cattlemans has been in Blue Ridge forever. Other restaurants only last 2 or 3 months and go under. Cattlemans was started by ladies who cooked at the high school. Those ladies have retired and moved on. Linda has been a waitress there for over 20 years. At 9 AM you can usually see the town council members and local notables enjoying coffee together. It is a good home town restaurant. It is famous for Chicken fried steak. I am an outlander, and prefer my CFS without being drowned in white gravy and with a bit more seasoning. You get more than most will eat at a setting and there are plenty of sides to choose from. If you like Texas style chicken fried steak, you will love the Cattlemans's. My favorite meal there is breakfast. You start off with delicious coffee. It is the mellow medium roasted colombian brew that can be enjoyed black. In todays world everyone seems to serve over-roasted Robusta that needs cream and sugar to kill the bitterness. Make sure that the waitress gets you real cream or milk to lighten the coffee. The Dow chemical powdered creamer is not fit to use in coffee. Great coffee! Joyce, one of the founders, used to hand slice the breakfast ham. You used to get a nearly quarter pound slab per order. The new owners must have invested in a slicer. It is still a generous slice of delicious fried ham, but thinner. The toast is made with good bread. It comes pre-buttered. There is a nice selection of jams on the table. A slice of toast with strawberry or marmalade is like desert. Eggs are always good. You can order one or two. Prices are reasonable. You can get a full meal for what it costs to eat at McDonalds. The Cattlemans is one of the must do things in Blue Ridge. The rodeo is another. read more

We had lunch today. The food was great which is why I gave them 4 stars. The service has gotten bad since the last time we were there. 2 ladies serving but only one taking care of the tables.
