I have been eating here since 1991. It has changed owners several times since then. Seems to lose something every time. Something happened about 6 months ago. The old standby sandwiches are gone. Lots of foo-foo stuff. Prices up about 50%. Waiting staff rude and unpleasant. Quality of the food has gone down. Plenty of better places to eat in Farmersville, Princeton, and Wylie. Cattlemans has been in Blue Ridge forever. Other restaurants only last 2 or 3 months and go under. Cattlemans was started by ladies who cooked at the high school. Those ladies have retired and moved on. Linda has been a waitress there for over 20 years. At 9 AM you can usually see the town council members and local notables enjoying coffee together. It is a good home town restaurant. It is famous for Chicken fried steak. I am an outlander, and prefer my CFS without being drowned in white gravy and with a bit more seasoning. You get more than most will eat at a setting and there are plenty of sides to choose from. If you like Texas style chicken fried steak, you will love the Cattlemans's. My favorite meal there is breakfast. You start off with delicious coffee. It is the mellow medium roasted colombian brew that can be enjoyed black. In todays world everyone seems to serve over-roasted Robusta that needs cream and sugar to kill the bitterness. Make sure that the waitress gets you real cream or milk to lighten the coffee. The Dow chemical powdered creamer is not fit to use in coffee. Great coffee! Joyce, one of the founders, used to hand slice the breakfast ham. You used to get a nearly quarter pound slab per order. The new owners must have invested in a slicer. It is still a generous slice of delicious fried ham, but thinner. The toast is made with good bread. It comes pre-buttered. There is a nice selection of jams on the table. A slice of toast with strawberry or marmalade is like desert. Eggs are always good. You can order one or two. Prices are reasonable. You can get a full meal for what it costs to eat at McDonalds. The Cattlemans is one of the must do things in Blue Ridge. The rodeo is another. read more

We had lunch today. The food was great which is why I gave them 4 stars. The service has gotten bad since the last time we were there. 2 ladies serving but only one taking care of the tables. The other did nothing. Took 15 minutes to pay my bill. Probably not going back until they get better help. read more

Don't waste your time. Chicken fried steak is "meh," otherwise, service is mediocre, if they get busy you better get ready to wait 45 minutes for cold food. I've sat in twice, 1st time waited 20 minutes to order food after waiting 10 to just order drinks, we told her we were ready for all but she said she would get drinks first?! 2nd time we sat next to the door since this was the only place left which we should have just left because this is where everyone pays and to go orders are picked up and people stand next to you waiting for table/to-go's. I brought some Shiner Bock and people looked at me like I was crazy. There was 6 of us, half of us got our food 15 minutes apart from the others... Strike 3 was a to-go order. My dad had bought us one of those coupons where you get a discount after spending so much. My wife called it in and just like how you order pizza she said she had a coupon, I think for $10 off when you spend $25? No discrepancy over the phone. So she drives up there to get it and brought the coupon, she was denied the coupon saying it was for dine-in only, nowhere in the details did it show this, nor in the purchase agreement. She called me while she was still there, I told her screw(other words used) that place, NEVER again. They got stuck with wasted food. read more

This place has a nice small town atmosphere, even thought to it could stand a few "updates" in my opinion. Although I am not I huge fan of the decor, it's apart of the whole look of the restaurant. We're moving to the Blue Ridge area in June, and have passed by many times during construction. At the recommendation of a local, we decided to stop in, being made aware that people will often stop by the table and strike up a conversation. We were not disappointed. We brought our three college-age children along as well. The guys had the Chicken Fried Steak, and although there are some reviews noting it was bland, we did not find that the case. There was a lot of spicy flavor! The girls had burgers, and they enjoyed them -- cooked well and flavorful. We also shared a buttermilk pie that was a big hit! The only minor issue was the slow service - there was only one poor overworked server, but we passed the time enjoying the atmosphere. We look forward to stopping in for breakfast, and becoming local regulars ourselves! read more

So the wife and I were out driving around on a beautiful Saturday and ran across this place and decided to stop in. The decor is comfy home relaxing and the people are super nice. Upon reviewing the menu they have a Chicken Fried Steak that is supposedly D Magazine's top choice. That seemed like a challenge to us both so we both got it. It was probably the best chicken fried steak I've ever had. Perfect size, superb, light gravy and the list of 8 or 9 sides (changed daily) made a perfect pairing. I love Cattleman's! I would come here everyday for a sweet tea and buttermilk pie, but my hips will not allow it! The food portions are generous, hot, fresh and delicious. The pies are just like my grandma's, perfection! Love the service and the people. Warm, southern hospitality at it's finest. We were up in Blue Ridge with nothing to do for a few hours and hungryyyyy. Not much up in Blue Ridge and Papa had told us about how Cattleman's had the best chicken fried steak around so we decided to give 'er a go. Walking in, the place looks old. There was a spider dangling from the ceiling almost right in front of us which creeped me out but whatever, it happens. The ketchup bottle was also kinda gross looking with old ketchup smeared around the top and I was glad I did not have to use it -- my boyfriend wasn't so lucky. I got the chicken fried steak which came with 3 sides, I got mashed potatoes, mac and cheese and corn. The corn was obviously from a can and an awkward color -- it was old looking. Mac and cheese was nothing special and probably not homemade. The noodles in it were mushy but it wasn't terrible. The mashed potatoes were garlic-y and pretty good. The chicken fried steak probably wasn't the best I've ever had but it definitely was not bad. The gravy on the steak and potatoes was DELICIOUS and made my boyfriend question me as to why my cream gravy wasn't as good (I have no idea!?). It was a good meal, large portions. It was kind of off-putting walking in that the girls working there took a couple minutes to come get our drink order because they were busy looking at each other's phones up at the counter and talking. Really really good food. They won an award from D Magazine for the best chicken fried steak a while back and it's true. Very decent steak. They make all their own sauces and dressings so it's different than you'd expect at a chain. We've eaten there several times now and aren't disappointed. The only reason they don't get 5 stars is that they aren't handicapped accessible. Wife is in a wheel chair and we had to carry her (and it) up the steps. Food was worth it though. read more

These reviews must be written by the owners of this Cafe. I have been living in Blue Ridge for over 6 years and have only tried this place a few times because every time I do, the food is terrible. No seasoning on anything, watered down gravy, soggy fries, just to name a few. The only reason I go at all is because the Cafe is owned by the Mayor's wife, and therefore, they do not allow competition to open in the town.
