Less than a block from the Anne Frank House, near a canal and directly across from the beautiful 1600s Westerkerk Church with a chiming clock in the spire. Mendoza Steakhouse served me one of the very best beef filets I've ever had overseas! (I'm from a cattle farm in the US and am very picky about my beef filets :)) I arrived just at closing but they were kind enough to graciously accommodate my dinner request! Wonderful chef, owner and very kind waiter, WM Moklas! I walk with crutches, due to mobility issues, and I was in a bit of a crisis when I walked into their restaurant, exhausted, hungry and a woman alone on the streets after 9PM in a foreign city! They calmed me down, fed me a scrumptious dinner, and instructed me on where to meet my Uber in the midst of the canal construction with street names I couldn't begin to pronounce. Truly Good Samaritans running a delicious steakhouse conveniently located less than a block away from the Anne Frank House. Thank you dear Sirs. Me and the wife was in for some meat and we found it at Mendozas. Owner was welcoming and gracious. Started my experience off with a port wine, toasted bread with garlic butter and the spare rib platter with a delicious salad, hot crispy fries and some very tender falling off the bone ribs. Not to much spicy and just the right amount of sweetness. Wifey enjoyed a nice succulent steak. All in all a great experience. read more

While walking through downtown, we stumbled across this place. It's very small, but the manager and staff were so incredibly helpful and friendly. My husband started with a veggie soup to start and it was wonderful. Full of flavor and just the right size. I ordered the rib eye and my husband ordered the combo meal. We both preferred mine over his. The only downside is they charge 5€ for a glass of coke. read more

We dropped in for a light lunch after a walking tour in the morning. My partner and I shared a soup and pizza. The onion soup was good, broth was tasty, substantial onions and the bread. The amount of cheese was less than what I am accustomed to. But that was alright. This cost Euro 4. The vegetarian pizza at Euro 11 was sufficiently big enough to be shared. At adjacent table, I could see that they one diner who ordered a pizza too, struggled to finish hers as her partner head ordered his own entree. However, I find the toppings a bit on the light side. Perhaps that's how they do pizzas here as it's the first time we had it. We ordered water, and in Portugal or Spain, they will bring a large bottle of water. In the restaurant, they brought two small bottle of water for us. And the price was Euro 3 each!! If this is not price gouging, I don't what is. Their dinner offerings might be good and competitively priced but I would not recommend for a light lunch. read more

After wandering the city and doing all the touristy things including the Zoo, I was starving. Initially I was looking for the all you can eat ribs deal but couldn't remember what street those places were located. So I settled with this place and am happy I did. Cozy and warm cause it was a chilly night, I was greeted, seated and warming up with a glass of red. The decor was tex-mex barnyard ecclectic. Meat empanadas were very good, made fresh, very hot with a nice dipping sauce. Ordered the ribs and fries which were filling, ribs were tender and fries tasted clean, unlike our american fries. This place wasn't bad! We didn't have advance plans to come here but we needed something in our stomachs before we headed out to enjoy another night in this eclectic city. When touring Amsterdam, you end up walking past so many steakhouses that you eventually get the craving to step inside of one of them and get a facefull of ribs. Today was that day. Mendoza looked as good as any but we chose it in particular because it wasn't € 20-30 a plate like most other places. We managed to get two dishes that were around € 15 a plate. The lady and I split an order of spare ribs and another order of the steak shish kabob skewers. They were both quite tasty and the perfect size. The fries that they came with were perfectly cooked and a great compliment to the dishes. Washed it all down with 2 big Heinekens. Our server was very sweet in helping us understand the menu. In fact, at the end of our night, we realized that we lost our GVB tram passes somewhere in the night. We retraced every bar, every dessert spot, and every bench that we sat on that night until we finally made it back to our starting point: Mendoza Steakhouse. They were cleaning up and closing shop when we asked them if they had seen our passes (they were quite expensive 5 day unlimited passes) and sure enough, they held them for us in case we returned. What a relief. The Dutch are wonderfully honest. Probably a 3 star establishment as it is, but I'm giving it 4 stars because they really saved our asses by holding our train passes for us. read more

This place gets five stars from me! It was a relief from walking everywhere and the food was good. The prices were reasonable. The server was very gracious. In fact, she was incredible! We accidentally left our bag full of souvenirs but didn't discover it until hours later when we were on an evening canal cruise. The cruise was an hour and a half so I didn't fully enjoy it because of worrying about the souvenirs. After the cruise we raced to the tram stop and made our way back to the restaurant. Our server saw us walk in and immediately knew why we were there. She had found our souvenirs and had kept them safe for us. Worth every Euro spent at this place! read more

Well I want to give 3 stars based on service since the man serving us was super nice and attentive, but the "food" it was just really bad. The only edible thing was the pizza & fries. The wine must've been opened so long white vinegar tastes better. We ordered the avocado stuffed shrimp. It was so bad I wouldn't even try it, it looked like throw up and rotten brown avocado on top with a wilted bed of lettuce. This would be a one star review for the food but since the man was so nice and the pizza & fries was ok I'm giving a 3. I may go back for a pizza and beer. Maybe. read more

I am currently on vacation here in Amsterdam from California. This is by far one of the best steak houses I've been to my whole trip. The meat was so tender and juicy. I'd definitely recommend eating here, I felt bad because I arrived 30 minutes before closing, but they were very welcoming and didn't rush me at all. read more

We went eating there with my friends because we were looking for some restaurants near Anne Frank House. We were appealed by the menus presented in the window, which were rather cheap. But once inside, our waiter was a bit rude, we HAD (that's what the waiter say) to order extra drinks, we waited a long time for our plates to come, and the menus presented in the window were in fact small size plates, which wasn't very clear. And when we wanted to pay (everyone its own plate) the waiter went "oh my god". Plus watch out, when you order Argentinian steaks, the side dish are not included, you have to pay an extra to have your vegetables. read more

This place wasn't terribly bad but I wouldn't say it was awesome. It almost felt like I was in the countryside where they cook Swamp meet or roadkill. I think this is because of the decor with the heads and all the other country like items on the wall, kind of an over kill! We went here because we didn't really feel like having anything else in the area. For a cold day outside it was a pretty warm restaurant and I did appreciate that considering that in Amsterdam the kind of leave the restaurant doors open so that cold air comes into the restaurant. So we were given a menu which was a little confusing because of the way the items were set up it felt like everything has its own category and I feel like it could have been set up in a different way. The waiter was a bit clumsy I don't know if he was trying to rush but he did Spill two plates of food on the floor and that's forgivable because in a restaurant world it happens but what made it bad is that after spilling the food he went to the back and started yelling at the cook as if it was his fault and it was a little unprofessional because everyone in the restaurant could hear him yelling at the cook. So my friend and I finally decided on what we wanted he got the ribs with fries and I got the creamy sauce pasta. The food came out in a timely manner which was good and I was a little disappointed with my food it wasn't terribly bad but it did have a sense of staleness to it and I had to taste of my friends ribs and it was alright nothing too special. Regarding prices, there were pretty affordable the items weren't over price or anything of the sort. And also a little turn off was that the waiter was a little too personal. I observed him having conversation with two people next to us and he just got a little too personal for my liking and also at one point his girl friend brought his dog into the restaurant and he sort of introduced the dog to the customers which I thought was very unprofessional. Overall I wouldn't say I would go back because there wasn't anything too special about this place but if I had to and I had no other option then I would make a big fuss about it. read more

We decided to eat dinner here as it was near the Anne Frank Huis and we needed somewhere to wait out the unexpected rain. The place seemed decent and cozy so we decided to give it a shot.
