This rescue spent weeks processing our application. We always immediately responded but there were several different 'coordinators' that had to reach out to us. We applied for a dog that had not yet been publicly listed because I knew the foster. We applied on 2/14, notified by email that our application was approved on 3/7 and found out on 3/11 that the dog was adopted on 3/8 or 3/9. He last round of shots were on 3/7. Every person we talked to said we were the first applicant and we would get to meet her first, then others would have the opportunity after us because once she was available and posted online, they expected many applications. She was never posted on their site, on FB, or on TikTok page. This clearly isn't how it happened. This is so frustrating. I cannot recommend them and would give zero stars if I could.

What on the actual Earth? Yes. There are things around. Lol! What is unfortunate is the home visit person acted like we were approved.

I don't review businesses for the most part unless it's really positive or really negative... I also wish I had seen these reviews before dealing with this organization. I'm truly dumbfounded. I'm approved to adopt from probably 15+ dog rescues because COVID is requiring an approved app before meeting a dog at all and then I've missed out because they're already adopted. This one denied me. Here is what I posted on Facebook about it, and a picture to go with it. These people are nuts! Based on other reviews, this denial was a blessing! My post: "Well it was bound to happen. One out of 15+ apps isn't bad for a rejection percentage. I will shamefully admit, it's probably an awful environment for a dog at my house, because.... my daughter has toys. (Please don't tell anyone about this secret of ours.) And no, I don't plan to keep all of them put away at all times." *And I'm going to assume the two positive reviews are from people who run the place. "Jen" is the president mentioned in my screenshot, and Jennifer wrote a review saying people are just complaining because they got denied. Hmmmm.

I adopted Riley in September, 2020. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is, I do believe that from the time of application submission to hearing from someone, should be shorter. That being said, it's clearly stated on the application that it may take 10 days to hear from a volunteer and that's exactly how long it took for me. Once I did hear back I was then put in touch with the foster mom, who was absolutely wonderful! We communicated on a regular basis. We met at a park, we then scheduled a home visit, and we then adopted the most AMAZING boy! All of that happened over the course of a few weeks, but that's not out of the ordinary at all. I was also told by the foster mom, right up front, there was another family interested in him and going through the process as well. So if they would have won out, that's just life, regardless of how far I was in the process. Most of these dogs come from really bad circumstances, so an exhaustive process to find the perfect home SHOULD be done and they SHOULD be picky. I couldn't be happier!

We recently adopted a dog from cause for canines and we can't say enough not only about how much we love our new dog but her foster mom and the organization as well. From start to finish everything went well. We truly appreciate the thoroughness of the adoption process as it's so important to find the right match. Our dog's foster mom was absolutely wonderful and we are grateful that she gave our dog the best start at a happy new life :). This organization does not rush through this process and they shouldn't. I too had a similar experience to those below me. I applied to adopt a dog, explained how I had an acre and a half, a loving family, and we had just lost our 14 year old beagle to cancer and were looking to add a new four legged member to our family. We live in a nice area, have a loving home, and I've raised two kids and a 14 year old dog for crying out loud, however, Canines for Cause tells us we aren't eligible to adopt--no specific reason why either. I even had a vet on my list of references who's known me 15 years and can speak to my ability to care for pets. This establishment has dozens of dogs for adoption, but it shutting people down and giving them no indication as to why. I had several other rescues approve our application, so I'm not sure why Cause for Canines makes it so hard, but good riddance. It's frustrating to hear "adopt, adopt, adopt" and then you find a dog you want to adopt online and someone denies your application without ever meeting you or telling you why. read more

We adopted a Brittany Spaniel as a friend for our doodle. Cause for Canines brought 2 dogs for meets and greets. The first meet and greet went fine, but we were not feeling the match. The second meet and greet in our home went great, so we scheduled more time with Lucy (fka Suzy). Cause for Canines and our family was sure we found a match. We got Lucy in February 2018, and she immediately was home. This rescue is careful to do placements that will be successful. I highly recommend this rescue! read more

Totally unprofessional and straight up mean people to deal with. Tried to foster dogs for them and after stating that our house/lifestyle was more suitable for smaller, less energetic dogs (we had an apartment with no fenced in yard), they had us foster some crazy energetic MASSIVE puppy that tried to eat my dog. My roommate and I relayed our (serious) concerns, and they basically told us to deal with it until the dog was adopted. Despite my roommate and I having plenty of experience with different types of dogs, we were ridiculed for not wanting to deal with a genuinely unsafe dog. The harassment didn't stop even after the dog was adopted, and we had to block all contact. read more

It's really a shame. I feel for the animals. They make it almost impossible to adopt. I'm retired with no other animals. Have had dogs all my adult life, have a house with a fence and they turned me down flat. I contacted my vet and they didn't even call . I understand they want to make sure animals go to a good home but they are ridiculous read more

Got through the long application process, another long wait to get home visit and finally scheduled a time to meet the foster and pup. I got weird red flag vibes from the "moderator" who emailed me saying the pup I wanted wasn't a good fit for my family and I should take one of their other dogs. The dog I was hoping to adopt was a small terrier, I've only ever had small terriers, how is that not a good fit? She wants to offer me a medium size hound when I want a small size terrier...It felt like a bait and switch scam. I reply a basic "no, but is the dog I applied for still available?" She assured me yes he was, and I could go ahead and contact the foster. So I did, but a couple of hours before we were due to meet the moderator emails that the dog I applied for is no longer available but I could still opt for the one she was offering last minute. Such an emotional roller coaster, I don't feel comfortable trying to adopt from them again. read more

We just adopted a dog from Cause for Canines on 1/26. I write this based on our sincere disappointment in this organization. Truthfully, we feel that we've been completely deceived. Our dog was detailed as a one-year-old, calm dog that was great around kids, people and other dogs. The single most disheartening thing we've discovered is that this dog is in fact FIVE - leaving us with half the lifetime we were hoping for and 4-plus years of neglect and abuse to combat with training. This was revealed to us by our vet after examining her for about 5 minutes. We later looked at the vet records this organization gave us several days after adopting her, to see that a previous vet did in fact label her as 5 years old. This would mean that several people (most notably her foster family) knew that she was not 1-year-old, prior to us even meeting her - the opportunity to tell us this information was readily available several weeks later when we had our home visit with her and commented about her age, but was still not divulged. Additionally, over the past two-plus weeks, we have had multiple aggressive incidents. She has mostly been a great dog and just as cuddly as advertised. At other times, she has been extremely aggressive towards strangers and other people, despite her profile and foster family never mentioning such instances. All of these incidents took us by surprise, mainly because no concerns were ever brought to our attention despite an hour long initial visit and list of endless questions. Most notably was the instance at the vet where she required a muzzle for her shots, after becoming aggressive. I am sure similar behavior was seen at her first vet's visit where she had to receive multiple shots, but again, this was never mentioned. We are just glad no one was hurt. We understand there is a transition period while adopting pets, and we're working through that, but we're disappointed in the truths we've found out. We would never have let this dog around our 2-year-old niece after the level of aggression she has engaged in around other people in heightened situations. And I'm certainly glad we do not have young children of our own, but that is going to be cause for concern when/if it does happen. With all this said, our dog is already a part of our family and, despite the false details under which we adopted her, we love her and she seems very happy. We simply wanted to forward on this information to others in the hopes of providing unknowing families a warning to do the research prior to adopting (part of the contract for this organization is that the vet records are not released until after payment and signed contract - several days after you already have the pet in your home). I only gave them 2 stars because I do feel like they mean well, and want the best for rescue dogs. But, that being said, our dog was completely misrepresented. It's unfair to not only those involved, but to the dog as well. We most certainly will not be working with or referring Cause for Canines to others. *After discussing with others in our community, we know of another family that adopted from cause for canines and was also deceived about the age and demeanor of the dog.d read more

Cause for Canines is a 501(c)(3) volunteer-based, all-breed dog rescue founded in Central Ohio. We are committed to the rescue of homeless dogs, dogs given up by their owners due to difficult circumstances or those in danger of abuse or neglect, and dogs in shelters that are at risk of euthanasia. Our mission is to find safe, loving, committed and permanent homes for the dogs we take into rescue. All of our dogs are placed in foster care and receive any necessary medical care and treatments and are spayed/neutered and microchipped, while waiting for their forever homes. Applicants are put through an extensive adoption process to ensure our dogs are placed in the best homes possible. We also provide education to prospective adopters to ensure they have the tools necessary to provide appropriate pet care for their new forever friend. We are a group of passionate animal advocates who are dedicated to doing our part to improve the rights of dogs everywhere.

The following evening, I had received a follow up email on one of the cats because I had accidentally selected 'yes' if I intended to have the cat declawed, and they wanted to verify my intention which I really liked. I replied that same evening to let them know that was a mistake, and I did not intend to have him declawed. After still not hearing anything back for four days, I emailed them asking for an update and asking if they were having any trouble contacting my references and to let me know if they needed any help processing my application. No reply for another week. And I checked on the website to see the cat had been adopted. I understand that these are volunteers running this organization, but the lack of proper communication and transparency is very frustrating especially after I made the effort to follow up with them. Even a reply letting me know that another family was looking at the cat would've been acceptable. Some sort of update would've been appreciated. I had to find out by looking at the site to know that he was already gone. It was quite upsetting to find out this way. The time I was waiting on a reply, I could've been looking at other options. I see that they host a number of events, and I'm wondering exactly how organized they are if their communication with adoptions is this dry.

I was greeted by a beautiful friendly black and white Border Collie mix (? sorry) and a gentleman who was amazingly knowledgeable about everything in the store. We spoke for a long time about cat food, cat health problems, treats, etc. and I left feeling fantastic that such a store exists just seconds from my home. This place isn't huge but makes great use of the space with a large selection of raw food and treats ranging from a raw "bar" with treats (chicken hearts, chicken feet, salmon skins, etc on a choose-your-own a la carte basis) to refrigerated and frozen items. There are many different high quality kibbles for dogs and cats in addition to toys, some beds, leashes, you name it. I just cannot emphasize enough how much my experience today resonated with their motto of "Feed your pet like you give a damn.". I did not feel like I was being "sold to" but instead educated in a friendly non-pushy manner from a fellow caring pet owner. From the front desk to every team member involved, they showed my dog and myself nothing but care, professionalism, love. I was devastated to have to eventually put my dog down. They gave me a wonderful option to come later with less people, I was given as much time as I needed with him and they were all so understanding. I really appreciate everyone here going above and beyond on one of my hardest moments in life. I was told that even though I had grooming appointments booked for the remainder of the year that my July appointment could not be booked because I did not have a method of payment stored within their new online booking portal. Storing a form of payment on an online booking portal is not something I would ever do and did not appreciate the effort that Mutts & Co put into trying to convince me otherwise during my vacation. I was away for five days. I was interrupted during two days of my vacation over this matter. The unfortunate part of this story is that Savanah is amazing at grooming my fur babies; however, I will not place a method of payment within their online portal. I now need to make alternative arrangements for grooming which is not at all appreciated. Life is busy enough without arbitrary and unplanned side quests. Mutts & Co does offer a variety of healthy products for cats and dogs. They are good about assisting you to the car with large orders or even assisting with curbside pick up. However, all of the products that they carry can be gotten through online retailers. My only other complaint is that they continually store the shopping carts on one side of the store and shopping baskets on the other side of the store. Their shopping carts require the use of a shopping basket too as items fall through the shopping cart when used alone. Disabled persons have a hard time traveling to each side of the store to collect a shopping basket and shopping cart. I would point this out each time and would return to the same set up the next trip.

They did indeed step in and do a great deal of the work, which I truly appreciated, just as I did the nostalgic conversations about bike designs over the decades. I adopted my dog close to two years ago and had an excellent experience from the application process, screening, actual adoption, and follow up. My application was reviewed within 1 week, home screening was scheduled for the following week, and after being approved- my meet & greet with the dog was scheduled that same week. Communication was excellent throughout the entire process. The dog I adopted has high anxiety and was likely previously abused. I am so thankful that her previous foster family provided (and has continued to provide) me with assistance with the transition and her ongoing care. She has made huge strides (!!!), and continues to surprise me in learning new skills and overcoming obstacles that I never thought she could. I am so thankful for the diligence that Cause for Canines had throughout the process, and to the fosters for the organization, who are really the heroes of all of our success stories. I recommend Cause for Canines all the time to friends and colleagues looking to adopt. read more

We adopted a very sweet puppy after checking out a few others. The foster parents are so accommodating and so wonderful and loving with the dogs in their care. One drove over 30 mins to bring the two puppies to our house. When we didn't move fast enough, they were adopted. But we soon found another puppy. Her foster mom was lovely. We met her at her home, and when we fell in love, she printed out all the paperwork for us to complete. She gave us plenty of food and toys to get us started too. Additionally with C4C, the veterinary services are excellent. Spaying was free as part of the fee. I can't say enough for this selfless organization who drove to Kentucky to retrieve our pup's mom who was set to be put down. Lucky for us, we now have a very loving mixed breed almost 2 year old. read more

I applied to be a foster with Cause for Canines. And although it did take some time and I missed out on the pup I was interested in fostering, I do appreciate how thorough they are in their application. It's almost as though the process worked in my favor, I have fostered many pups for them now and without the delay we would not have had the opportunity to take on and foster fail our German Shepherd. Knowing they are run entirely by volunteers and understanding the work they pup in for these pups is AMAZING. I recommend applying with them and being open to the fact the first dog you see may look great but there are many more who may need you more than the face you first saw. Apply knowing it take time and that the perfect pup will find you with the help of the volunteers. read more

We adopted our second dog from Cause for Canines and cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience. Prior to his adoption, Cause for Canines went above and beyond for our pup. He was lucky enough to have a caring and knowledgeable foster mom who recognized a potentially harmful heart condition. The rescue made sure he had the necessary procedure to ensure a long and healthy life. Everyone we met during the adoption process was a pleasure to work with and genuinely cared about his well being and future. Cause for Canines has helped us find several of our sweet pups! We have adopted a total of 4 dogs over a span of 3 years and could not have found the right matches for our family without them. Requirements include application approval, vetting approval, home visit approval, meet & greets to ensure they were the perfect fit and most importantly an adoption contract. Cause for Canines is a wonderful organization! The process is quite extensive, but well worth it to find the right fit for you and your family. All of the volunteers that work with C4K9 were all so kind and really worked to help me find the right dog for me! The process took a while from start to finish, but all of the members I worked with were volunteers. The alumni group for this organization is so supportive and will help out with anything that you might need after your adoption. This rescue is amazingly thorough and definitely has the best interest of the dogs in the forefront. I see a lot of negative comments on here, but i am going to assume that these people got denied for a dog for whatever reason, and they are throwing tantrums instead of telling the truth. I adopted with this rescue and i couldn't be happier. They were professional, ethical, and i could tell that they care about where these dogs are adopted to. That's what matters. I will adopt from here again, and multiple friends have also adopted through this rescue. read more

My wife and I adopted our dog Jacks from Cause for Canines and could not have had a better experience. I would highly recommend to anyone. The team is passionate about finding a great fit for these dogs and are willing to go the extra mile to ensure it's a smooth transition. This was our first dog and we felt that all of our questions were answers timely- and the foster family was kind enough to stay in contact with us to answer our follow up questions. Worthless trash who would rather maintain their holier than thou attitude than the well being of dogs they claim to care for. Rude, obstinate, and unhelpful. Giving shelters everywhere a bad name and contributing to people shopping not adopting because dealing with these jerks would turn anyone away. I adopted Sable from C4C in December 2017, and the experience could not have been better. The volunteers thoroughly vetted me and even did a home visit, which I appreciated. They do an exceptional job with their adoptable's profiles, and are honest and transparent. I would recommend C4C to anyone looking to foster, adopt or even donate!! Extremely unresponsive, inept operation. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME, as there are several rescues out there, that actually have their stuff together. It is my firm belief that this rescue should be shut down, pending a full investigation and internal auditing of ALL of their practices. This is a fantastic group. I loved the experience especially because the foster parents can tell you specifics about the dogs you are considering. I can't get on board for a dog non profit organization who does NOT support other dog non profit organizations. If the goal is to rescue and find great homes for these dogs why wouldn't you want to work together. They are sketchy and it sounds like many people have had sketchy experiences!! read more
