Soooo my friend told me about their pantry day so I decided to come and check it out! If your in need of food for your dogs they can lend a helping hand! Every MONDAY, TUESDAY AND THURSDAY from 11am-7pm u can come and grab 2 that's right 2 bags of dog food for your babies. They only let u used one dog on your account. So one dog gets u two bags of food ONCE A MONTH (EVERY 30 days). I think that is just so cool they offer this! My dogs go trough 40 lb bag in 17 days so this comes in handy when money is tight! Thank you!! Will definitely use then when needed and will spread the word! THEY ONLY HAVE REGULAR ADULT DOG FOOD AND NOTHING FOR LARGE BREED SO BE CAREFUL FEEDING IF U HAVE EXTRA LARGE DOGS LIKE ME!

    My adopted pup!

I adopted my dog last week from here! They are only allowing visitors with appointments which are easy to set up and manage online. Luckily I was able to get in early on a Saturday morning. The facility is pretty large. There's a lot of dogs that don't seem to be posted on their site so I'd recommend still going in if you are serious about adopting. They let you spend a decent amount of time with the dog before you adopt. I was outside walking him for nearly a hour before I decided to come back in. There's quite a bit of paperwork but once you fill everything out they get the dog ready and you're good to go! All of the volunteers seems pretty busy but they're mostly pleasant. So glad I found my pup here.

In cage @ shelter between 2 pit bulls wanted out of there!

Got my best dog ever there. I looked 4 days lots of pit bulls. On 4th day saw a blue eyed husky between 2 pit bulls shaking. They brought him in the room to see me, he laid his head on my shoulder and cuddled me. After looking @ numerous pit bull mixes and them being aggressive towards me I said write that blue eyed boy up. She said he's on sale for $18 today, neutered, put in micro chip, and all shots, plus leash ,collar , & dog license. Veterinarian said he was a stray for over 6 months eating squirrels put this powder on his food and you will need to house break him. They said he's a runner he will never stay with you or lay by you. He slept between my legs 1st night on my bomber jacket leather sofa and is always close to me. Laid his head on my leg all day next day working from home! He did run away twice first 3 days when he broke his collar and next day his leash. He came running back to me when I laid down in the grass and said come her good boy! If I drop his leash now he just looks at me doesn't run any where. I live in Columbus not San Francisco. Very Happy I looked for 4 days to get this boy!

    My google review!

Attached is my review of this shelter that I posted to Google. Have not had a positive experience with them as my newly adopted dog, not even 24 hours after adopting her from here, was diagnosed with Parvo, and the shelter won't do anything to help us out. Poor management. All they care about is their adoptions to give them quick and easy money, not about the actual dogs.

We have adopted four dogs from this dog shelter. Two at their previous location in south east Columbus and two at this location off Morse Rd on Tamarack. Its easy to find. A very nice facility, very clean and everyone is very helpful. The animals seem well cared for. You can walk through and look at all the dogs or if you have a special dog you want to see you tell them the name or cage number. You then go back and visit with the animal. We have always been pleased with our choice of pet. They are healthy, neutered and microchipped. And need adopted.

Perfectly pathetic. These dogs need loving homes - please consider the shelter!

I met my best friend here! Please consider adopting! ALL TYPES OF DOGS - The shelter gets dogs from all walks of life - purebred poodles to mutts, puppies to adults. Some were picked up as run aways and others were dropped off by owners who can't care for them anymore. Check the web site... you can narrow your dog search down by weight, sex, breed, etc. Once a dog is deemed adoptable, it will remain on the adoption floor until its adopted. Some dogs don't make it to the adoption floor due to their temperament. APPLICATIONS - Fill out an application before you start browsing at the shelter. It will save time because you can't visit with a dog without filling one out. Luckily, they save the app for about 3 months so you don't have to keep filling one out every time you come. Also, everyone in your family needs to be present to take the dog home. Everyone in your family includes another dog... They don't want surprise returns. DON'T JUDGE THEM IN THE CAGE - They don't know how to act... I met a rottweiler who was barking constantly and could jump face high. I took her outside, and all she wanted to do was lay in the sun and get her belly rubbed. They don't know what's going on. Some are scared, some are hyper from being cooped up for so long, and some seem distant. They just need a loving home to coax the best out of them. FACILITY - They're currently in an older building off Alum Creek Drive, but they're building a new place that sounds fabulous for the dogs and staff. The place is clean (for a shelter), and they have indoor and outdoor areas to get to know you dog. Lines can be long, especially if you go during the Mingle With The Mutts event (evey other Sunday.) VOLUNTEER - Lou is the volunteer coordinator. You need to take an intro class (less than 2 hours) to learn the ropes before you're allowed to volunteer. The most popular activity would be to walk the dogs outside. You can also bathe them. If you take an additional class, you can become an adoption counselor. The shelter also has several events every month that they're invited to attend - dogs need driven to the location and then you act as a representative from the shelter. DONATIONS - This is a dog only shelter, so no cat stuff. Think broader than dog food... blankets, sheets, towels, shampoo, bleach, brushes, etc. FOSTERING - The shelter is always in need of foster families. Once your home is approved, you can foster dogs! I think that's it :) Please consider getting your next dog here instead of a puppy mill supporter.

Some of the volunteers are RUDE. Not sure what her name was but she yelled at me while walking a dog because she wasn't paying attention and our dogs sniffed each other. We ended up adopting our boy and he's such a GEM! They really should consider customer service training or at least some manners to some of these volunteers. The place was clean when I went. The front desk employees were so helpful and sweet. I've adopted with them before (before my current dog) and I'm sure it won't be the last!

Koba - adopted from FCDS in May 2009.
    Kati K.

Please, please, please - if you want a new addition to your family, consider getting him or her from the Franklin County Animal Shelter, or one of the other shelters in the area. These animals need good homes. We adopted our Pekingese, Koba, a year and a half ago from Franklin County. He had been there forever because nobody was adopting him, he had matted fur and was very, very quiet. He is 7 years old, purebred (which doesn't matter to me, but does to a lot of people), and was already housebroken when we got him. He is the best thing that ever happened to my husband and I. I can't imagine anybody not wanting him. Everybody comments on how sweet he is. He is my baby! I know that if you look, there will be the perfect dog there for you to take home and love - an animal who truly needs a home.

I wanted to go into one of the rooms to see a cat, when i asked he rolled his eyes and let me go into the room but made it very clear he didn't want my friends kid in there. what if she was looking for a cat? Do you want these cats to find loving homes or not???!! Lastly, what happened before we were just done. I had walked in the shy room twice, once by myself and once with my boyfriend. The first time i went in they left me alone i was just looking at the cats, didn't pet them if they didn't want to be pet. I respect animals and i can tell if a cat wants me to not touch them. the second time i walked in with my boyfriend and one of the workers followed us in there and got in my boyfriend's face saying "this is the shy cats room don't get in their faces" mind you we weren't even that close to them just looking to see everyone that was in there. he then gets closer and says "Im serious" like bro we weren't even doing anything besides looking and letting them sniff us. anyways, whoever was working at 12 today with the mask you were amazing and helpful. the other guy up front a little older with curly hair you were extremely rude and disrespectful to all of us that walked in. My wife and I visited Colony Cats, Cat Welfare, and Cozy Cat Cottage to name a few. With all of the wonderful potential fur kids we saw we didn't see the one that we just connected with. We decided to go to Pets Without Parents as it was a rescue that we had not been to before and it was just down Indianola from our house. We had no expectations when we went to PWP other than we knew that they were a smaller rescue that was located in an older house. When we walked in we were pleasantly greeted by a volunteer and showed where the hand sanitizer (so that we could clean our hands between kitties). The individual who greeted us was figuratively knee deep in cleaning dog cages but, she was friendly and responsive when we had questions. There, in the center cage on the bottom was this beautiful kitten! Both of our hearts melted when we saw him, as he was nearly the spitting image of the cat we had just lost. The individual working the shelter that day let us know that those two kittens were meant to be picked up today by the person that was adopting them. Our hearts collectively dropped as then we knew that of the cats at PWP, these were the ones that we shouldn't get attached. We petted all the cats that we could, well save the brand new box of feral kittens! I am sure that in no time they'll be adoptable little fluffs! Despite not seeing a cat/kitten we connected to we decided to put in an application. The application was very similar to others you might see when adoption a new animals. Asked for references, job information, current pet information, veterinary contact, as well as things the adopter's view on declawing. Much to my surprise I received a call the very next day from the PWP shelter manager! I thought that the call may have been to clarify the application we had submitted but, it was not. The adoption on the beautiful kitten (that was meant to go home the day before) had fallen through. They wanted to know if we would like to come meet the little we had seen the day before. We quickly (and gleefully) went back to PWP to officially meet & pet this kitten. Cat carrier in tow, of course, just in case! If you adopt through PWP you get a wellness check up card for use at the vet where the animal has received their vaccines & spay/neuter. We took this offer so that we could get our new little friend checked out before we established him at our vet. This was great as he had a cold (that they were treating him for) and we were able to proceed to the next step in treatment, an antibiotic shot to help knock out the remainder of the kitty cold. The adoption contract at PWP is more heavily worded than others might be. There is a provision in it where if the contract is broken that PWP can seek money from the adopter who has broken the contract. It seems to me that this is included to bring home the gravity that is the responsibility of adopting a furkid. Oh, and I can verify that the folks at PWP do check references, which is great since they are working to place pets in well suited homes. P.S. Pets Without Parents is loud. With the pupsters looking for a new home in the adjacent room, any kitten/cat adopted from these guys will likely be a-okay with loud sounds and barking dogs. Train tracks also run right next door to the rescue. P.P.S. Our new kitten is fitting in purrfectly at home.

The process was unnecessarily long, complicated, and frustrating from start to end. We were asked to fill out a form and provide an excessive amount of personal information, only for them to reach out 2 days later to schedule a meeting... which they canceled. Not once. Not twice. Three times. By the fourth attempt, we honestly should've taken that as a sign. When we finally made it to the Zoom call, we mentioned that we already have a cat, which we thought would help speed things up. Somehow, it did the opposite. We were told we had to submit our cat's vaccination records, and IF AND ONLY IF those were approved, we might be allowed to meet the kitten two weeks later, since she was in a foster home. At that point, we were done. We didn't send anything. Instead, we drove straight to the Humane Society. And what a difference. We walked in, met the most adorable kitten on the planet, petted her, filled out some basic paperwork, and were treated like normal, trustworthy people, not suspects under investigation. We walked out with our kitten in under two hours. This place was completely unserious, wildly inefficient, and a total waste of time.
