Much to my surprise, it was about as lively as I had remembered it. The Alley was established during Covid times and offered a retreat to escape from the humdrum of the homestead. These days, its friendly vibe welcomes neighbors and visitors with a backyard setting strewn with twinkle lights and family-style tables. It's a causal scene and easy to soak in the live music, sunlight/moonlight, and neighborly banter. The layout resembles an alley with shops on either side, big open doors invite you to grab something to eat, sample a drink, or shop for handmade gifts. On one side, you've got craft brews and coffee roasters. On the other side, it's local wines and piping hot pizzas. Dogs are welcome all around. At the center of it all, there's live music on the weekends. Modeled after a Beer & Wine Garden concept, The Alley features Enegren Brewery (beer), Lucas Sellers (wine), California Coffee Republic (java), Fire & Vice (pizza), and The Craft House (non-alcoholic tchotchkes). As a self-proclaimed wino, I opted for a sampling of the Lucas Sellers Wines. Ashley, who was behind the bar and top of the pours, gave me good suggestions and offered anecdotes about each wine on tap. At the end of the night, my light pinot paired perfectly with the Mushroom Arugula pizza from Fire & Vice. And I felt right at home, surrounded by friends.

If you are a traditionalists when it comes to ciders, then this is your place. The ciders are pure apple without additives. The tastes of the ciders remind me of what you would find in UK- nice and dry. You can grab a pint in house or you take some to go if you prefer. We were also given the impression that our group needed to be finished and out by 6 PM, despite the business being scheduled to remain open until 10 PM. No time limit was communicated to us when we arrived. Additionally, some members of our group were charged regular prices rather than the advertised happy hour prices, which added to the frustration and confusion surrounding the evening. While we were never directly told to leave, the way the situation was handled by Melanie made us feel pressured to do so. We would have happily stayed and continued purchasing drinks, but once we felt that our presence was no longer wanted, we decided it was best to leave. What was especially disappointing was that the business was not particularly busy that evening, and our group was not preventing other customers from being seated or interfering with business. This made the experience difficult to understand and left us feeling singled out. I understand that businesses may have policies regarding larger groups, but those policies should be communicated clearly and upfront. We went to Oak and Iron, but because we didn't get the best service we went downstairs to see what was there and found a hidden gem in Thousand Oaks. Plus the wine selection was amazing.
