I had another mover cancel so I needed help within 3 weeks and they "gave an estimate" without ever coming to see what I had . Should have been red flag. They charge by the hour $230+, so that should also have been important info. Hot day but they don't start until after 9 a.m. for a very short distance ( under1 mi.) The guys were nice, polite and clean-cut, as they advertise. They thought it would take 3 hours to load, but it took 4 1/2 (cha-ching), then it took 6+ hrs instead of 4 to unload. If they'd filled the elevator and brought a full load it wouldn't have taken so long ($$$). NO FOLLOW-UP from co. Expected a "How did we do" call or email or even text. NOTHING. Don't brag about customer service when you don't provide any. Had glass in a picture broken and they responded relatively quickly but they sent a Final - "Courtesy payment" of $30. No way will that cover the repair, but that's all they'll do. Rip off! Paid for extra insurance, so they'd pay to have it repaired completely. Rip off! BTW, since they said they didn't have room in the truck they left things at the house. I asked them to move it all downstairs so I could do it later. They didn't. They left lamps, boxes, pictures, small furniture upstairs - it took me 5-6 loads to get all the stuff they "left". Think twice before hiring. Get them to come and see your stuff. I had an extremely frustrating experience with this moving company and would not recommend them. I don't understand how they can possibly have their current level of Google reviews. Do not trust these reviews. From the start, the crew was clearly unprepared, untrained, and poorly equipped. One mover was injured within the first 10 minutes, and there was no first aid kit available. He didn't even have work gloves and I had to give him a pair of mine just so he could continue working. Which I had to let him keep given the was bleeding inside of them. A major issue was the amount of time wasted. Nearly 3 hours were spent wrapping every single item imaginable, including inexpensive things that didn't need that level of care. None of this was communicated ahead of time, and at $180/hour, it dramatically inflated the final cost. Meanwhile, crew members were scrolling on their phones, vaping, and sitting around listening to music in my empty bedroom. Crew members also used my restroom in both of my houses and left a mess behind each time that I had to clean. Even worse, many of my items arrived scratched, chipped, or dented. There was visible damage to my home on walls, railings, and fixtures. The crew handled furniture carelessly, often moving heavy items by themselves without any teamwork and hitting everything along the way. They also began unwrapping by belongings before even unloading them off the truck. This made the wrapping I just paid $180 an hour for feel like a total waste of time because now my belongings and my new house are taking the full force of their carelessness. I emailed Cavalier the next day and expressed so if this to them. The claims team called and told me they would send forms for damages and service feedback. It has now been over a week, and I've received nothing. The only follow-up I've gotten is a marketing text message asking me to refer them to friends and family, which honestly feels insulting and completely inappropriate given the situation. Overall, I paid far more than estimated for poor service and damaged property. This experience did not reflect the level of professionalism the company advertises. I blame Cavalier for charging clients prices that make you expect seasoned professionals and instead they send you kids that they have not bothered to train one bit. Do not use these movers. I was charged over $7000 for 2 days. I was unable to be at the house where they were packing and moving. According to my neighbor, they spent about half the day standing around smoking and taking breaks. One of the movers was smoking a marijuana cigar which made me nauseous. I called to file a complaint and I was told I only had 28 days from the move to file the complaint. It took them almost 2 weeks to give me the link. I was also informed that unless I had proof that they were standing in the yard wasting time it would be my word against theirs. Today (5 months after the move) I went to the basement to find most of my late 1800's to early 1900's crystal broken into pieces. These are totes that I had put "Inside house and Fragile" on sticky notes on them. I packed these items myself. My husband, who passed away in July of 2025 (reason for move), purchased all of these pieces from antique stores during the late 1990's to early 2000's. I cannot replace these pieces. Their careless way they handled this move has destroyed priceless and irreplaceable items. I have no recourse against them since it has been over 28 days. It took me so long to find the totes due to the way they stacked everything in the basement. I would have gotten better service from the neighborhood kids especially since it would not have broken the bank. Eager to sell you a bad service. My first question was are you bonded and insured, to which they replied yes. Two guys showed up for my move. It was 103 degrees with 100% humidity. They quickly give you a sheet that has small grey print to have you check the insurance for which they will charge you. I will upload that pic. While filling it out they said, most people check free and "don't worry we'll take good care of your stuff." They broke my $1200 solid wood Secretary - told me it was broken in my house. I said no, I work at that Secretary. They told me it had been propped up and that my previous delivery people from the antique shop that I had delivered just that for $150 with two full adult men that delivered with white glove service broke it. The movers suggested I leave the Secretary there. Does that even make any sense? They dropped my master bedroom solid wood dresser in front of me down concrete steps. After putting it on the truck, they came out and said don't worry - no damage. It's damaged. Then when moving some of my things into storage he unloaded only one side of his cart so the other side was too heavy and toppled over. Don't worry - just my Crate & Barrel dishes. Still unpacking and not sure what I'll find. Each item is only covered $60 if damaged. If your items are valued at $60 each - this is the company for you! Do not use this moving company! Why? They manhandled your personal belongings but worse yet, they speed in their trucks. You can literally hear your things roll back and forth in the bed of their trucks. Had three of them speed back and forth from a local move. And when I write "speed", I'm talking 50 mph in a 25 zone! They charge $80 per mover per hour, with minimums. Not that the minimums mattered. The movers were lazy, slow, unprofessional (taking breaks and looking for phone chargers) and seemed completely inexperienced. It took three movers almost 3 hours to move a roomful of boxes, a couch, a recliner, a tv and a tv stand 10 miles acrosss town. Then at the end they tell you they charge extra for paying with a card. Then they ask for a tip. How poorly run is this company that they can't afford to pay their workers a decent wage when they charge $80 an hour each? read more

What a horrible experience. I gave them one star because both loading and unloading crews were polite and courteous. That is about the only positive I have. I thought I was hiring a professional moving company. I hired Cavalier to move me into PODS and to unload the PODS at my new location. The PODS were packed so poorly, the unloading crew apologized profusely, told me they were embarrassed by the loading of the PODS, that they were professionals and this should of never happened. Items were damaged due to poor packing and lack of wrapping. They did not wrap a king mattress, its box springs and a queen boxspring, mirrors, tables, and headboard. I left the mattress in the garage to be thrown away. I called to speak with their claims Manager - Bryce. He told me his hands are tied, and he can try and refile for more damages. A claim was filed through proper channels along with pictures of damaged furniture. I received a check for $228 for damages that doesn't come close to the approximate $2,000 in damages. He acknowledged there was a problem with the move. I requested charges for the loading of my furniture be credited back to my credit card. I don't expect to be fairly compensated for my damages, since I have already been told by Bryce (Claims Manager) they will not credit any portion of my moving charges. Doesn't sound like a very good system for customer satisfaction or to gather referrals for future business. I will post an update if anything changes. read more

We used cavalier for our move from a 2 bed room apartment to a house that is 35 minutes away. Extremely unprofessional service. I am not sure where to start on the number of things that went wrong. They themselves claimed that they were expensive over other movers in the area just because their quality of work is worth it. My neighbors who used a significantly cheaper service who moved from a large town home from the same area were able to move everything in under 4 hours without any hassles - if only we had known earlier. 1. They broke our furniture which I had initially offered to dismantle, which they said I dint even have to clear stuff out off. Inspite of them telling this, we went ahead and cleared it out so its just the furniture so its easier for them to move. The broke it regardless. I was thinking its ok since I had actually even opted for higher insurance which I paid for additionally just so I have peace of mind. Alas there is no response from them after the claim is made. 2. They damaged walls of the brand new house during the move and the moving guys were actually cussing their own company saying they make them work long hours for less pay !!!. I tipped them generously inspite of my bad experience. 3. During the actual move, the guys were very slow and after telling me 2 bed room apartment would only need 4 hours, they considered us as a 3 bed room apartment and also used up 6 hours. Half the time, the guys spent sitting around their truck for various things. I even bought them lunch!. 4. They ask that we claim the damages caused, which I did and a painter calls us up saying he will paint over the damaged walls. I tell him we are not ready for it as its a new build and the builder mentioned we need a couple of weeks before we can get an order in for the same paint color ( which apparently I have to pay for .. ). 5. There was no further communication from Cavalier on compensating for the broken furniture, they dont pick up calls, dont respond to emails. Please dont fall for their marketting and positive reviews. I was really impressed with our experience with Cavalier Moving. I've moved around a lot, so I've truly experienced the good, the bad, and the ugly when it comes to working with moving companies. Cavalier Moving did not disappoint. Brandon, Curtis, Xyavier, Will, and Quinton were some of the hardest working guys I have ever seen! They worked consistently hard the entire day without much of a break. They treated our belongings carefully and had a great attitude even after a long day in the blazing summer heat. We used Cavalier Moving to move us locally from Shockoe Bottom to Scott's Addition. It was a one-bedroom apartment to a smaller one-bedroom apartment. We had everything prepped and ready to go. We moved most of our boxes and smaller items ourselves. We used Cavalier to move our furniture (bed, dining table, tv stand, bookshelves). Two movers showed up about a half hour early and started around 15 minutes before scheduled time, which was fine with us. Now, I will tell you why it took 4 hours to do this move. Cavalier charges by the hour. There is ZERO incentive for these movers to move with any type of swiftness or efficiency. At $190/hr PLUS a $150 transportation fee, our one bedroom local move (less than 5 miles between apartments), ended up costing approx $1000. Unbelievable! Don't get me wrong, the movers were courteous and did not damage our items in any way, but probably the slowest I've ever seen in my life and we've used professional movers several times moving between different states, etc and I've never seen this. We also did a lot of the moving ourselves and even helped them by bringing in furniture ourselves. Also, it would have been helpful to have more than 2 movers. As I recall, when I moved from our one-bedroom apartment in Washington DC to another one bedroom apartment in Washington DC, they sent 3 or 4 guys to do it. Done within 2 hours. It was a flat rate so efficiency was in their best interests. I have learned my lesson. We won't be using Cavalier again the next time we move within Richmond. I will also go with a flat rate moving company instead. This by the hour moving is a scam. I'm feeling ripped off. read more

We had multiple antiques disassembled and left at both houses new and old. We were assured that the original crew would return the following day at 2:00 to finish the job. When the crew arrived it was a completely different set of movers who were not familiar with the antiques, nor the location of the parts to put them back together. I spoke with the office and was told that the original crew would NOT be back and it was up to my father to finish. When putting things together HIMSELF, he came to the conclusion that original antique screws were not to be found. On June 21, 2024 two moving crews where hired to go to two different homes and take it one home. One did a good job and everything was moved damage free. The one I had broke a leg off a dresser. Then when bring it in to the other home they broke another leg off this same dresser. The dresser is an antique and well made, better than what they build today. They went to move a sleeper sofa to load and take to the other home. I explained how I moved it in. They would not listen and after wasting 30 minutes trying to do it their way they gave up. I did what I asked them to do and put it on a blanket and was able to work it through the door by myself in less than 10 minutes. (I had to pay them for that 30 minutes for doing basically nothing.) Then they went to move a gun safe. They where told a couple of days before the move that it is extremely heavy. The safe door is extremely heavy (1/4" steel door). They did not have the proper tools to move the safe and after wasting another 15 minutes looking at it, I told them to leave it, I would get my two son to help me and I would move it. I have a Delta contractor saw that is approximately 22 years old and in excellent condition. They moved it and put it in a shed. I have had no reason or time to work with it until August 25, 2024. That is when I found the miter gauge handle had been broken. They did not mention it. They no longer make this part so I am not sure where I will find a replacement. It is horrible to spend a couple of thousand dollars to have you stuff broken. Oh, they do not carry and real tools and I caught them using pliers to remove nuts when disassembling a new Amish bed I had purchase 2 months prior to the move. We are loyal people. With everything in me I want to recommend this company but I cannot. Here are the reasons. 1. Broken Furniture- multiple pieces of furniture were broken during the move. This was not due to poor packing yet what I believe is carelessness on the part of the employees. 2. Inaccurate Quotes- the prices quoted for our move was double the actual cost. I understand what an estimate is and that numbers given as estimates are rarely completely accurate however these prices were not close. 3. Poor Management- thankfully we ordered insurance which we believe will cover some of our damages. However, this process was a nightmare for me. I called repeatedly for updates and no one had answers. The individual with answers went on two vacations during the time I was waiting for me money back. Every time I called I would receive a different answers. Many times I would receive no answers at all. I hope I have a check coming to many but I honestly have no idea what to believe at this point. 4. Loyalty- this may seem odd to use this here but I feel this point is necessary. We have used this company multiple times for moves prior to this very poor experience. And to be completely truthful the other experiences were certainly more pleasant. However, to have these issues and to speak with their leadership who does not seem to even care about my concern, who repeatedly talked over me as I was trying to express my complaint with the company is unacceptable to me. He repeatedly gave answers that were not relevant to my questions and I did not feel heard at all. My family is a VERY loyal family. We find companies and we stick with them. Most companies appreciate that. I will never do business with this company again as they do not respect their customers when it matters most, not even the ones apparently who have shown loyalty to them. read more

Choosing Cavalier Movers was the worst decision I made! You cannot trust the reviews! They were unprofessional and did take necessary care with my furniture. They dissemble the iron kegs from a table and insisted it had to be done to fit everything in the truck. I told them that the leg was loose before he left. So then the "supervisor/driver" said he fixed, it seemed so but the leg just fell off 3 days later! They are responsible. This piece was expensive and could have lasted another ten years but they destroyed it. They also with all there care didn't or couldn't get two large pieces on the truck -- large tv and large painting. So needed a second trip. Obviously the truck they brought was too small, I was only moving from a 2-bedroom apartment. I paid for 3 movers, and 2 of them got rude with me and raised there voice to me. Why would you talk to a customer that way? This is my property and I trusted you. You all are the worst movers I have EVER hired! I deserved to get my table replaced. They also bent the rail on one bed and now it doesn't lock onto the headboard! And when I went back to the apartment to clean it up after the move, I found 4 and a half screws that should have been put back on reassembly but they didn't care to make sure they had everything! It took almost a month after the move was complete to finally get an answer about a partial refund but now we're almost 3 months past the move out date & they STILL have not sent the refund they promised. I've called almost 20 times in total now & each time I am met with, "a member of our damage team has all of your info & will call you back tomorrow", which never happens. My husband and I were moving from a one bedroom apartment to another one bedroom apartment we had boxed all of our belongings so when the movers arrived all they had to do was move the boxes and the furniture that we had. The move itself was only 20 to 25 minutes away. Cavalier charges you a two hour minimum for your move. if it goes over you pay more our movers looked in their twenties and played around a lot which wasted an hour so we had to pay more than our estimate for the move not only that they broke off the middle support leg of my long dresser and if I hadn't seen it laying on the stairs, I would not have known it, then they lied about fixing it and I found it in the dresser drawer luckily I had paid them moving insurance which was $150 for anything that they broke I was reimbursed $75. I spoke to the manager of Cavalier moving he was very nice, but I still will never use this company again when I have to move again. Would we use them again? NO! read more

I employed Cavalier Moving for a short distance moving from a studio apartment to a 1 bedroom apartment a mile away. I was quoted for the move to take around 2 hours, starting between 12-4 pm. The movers showed up at 9 am and the move did not finish until after 5 pm. They were frequently heard making comments on how they were just going to make money on this move instead of having to do a second job that day. They showed no regard for my furniture (not even wrapping it or protecting it) and took a long amount of time between bringing each load up to my new apartment -- with an elevator. In the process, they broke a lamp in the stairwell, gauged the walls of my rental property, ruined the front door frame, and damaged my furniture. I called after to ask to speak to a supervisor to voice my complaint (mostly about the amount of time, but the damage was severe enough as well) and was completely dismissed without even an apology. I was told that no supervisor would ever be able to reach out to me, and instead I needed to file a claim online with their company and receive an answer within 3-4 weeks. I was completely stonewalled by the company. Guess what? No answer. Left a poor Google review and only then did they reply in order to both defend themselves and try to act like they had remained professional at all times. Not the case. To top it off, I was sent a $20 check in the mail with a written statement that was basically a silencing statement: cash the check and cease writing poor reviews of the company. I spent $1,100 on a move that should have been around $500-$600 and sent a $20 for "damages" a.k.a "stop complaining and move on." This company is unprofessional from the movers right down to the very core of the owners. As a newer company, most of their google reviews are fabricated for a 5 star. Choose a company that has roots in Richmond and will not damage your furniture, perform time theft, and completely ignore you as a consumer. Heed the negative reviews. They show the truth. read more

No clothes were moved or bins that you see. We brought those over. 1800 for only this furniture does not make sense. They didn't have the resources they needed to do this move. 8.5 hours for this little bit of stuff no bins no boxes no bags no nothing just furniture. I'm so disappointed and I hope you all so right and refund me some of my money. I refer a lot of ppl to companies, as a business owner I don't like bad reviews and I like to make my clients happy and not take advantage of them. I told them the furniture was heavy and I needed someone who could handle it in a reasonable time. I only live 10 minutes from my old home. I have used movers over 20 years and never had a move take 8.5 hours and that's moving everything I had. I'm used to 3-4 max when moving. I missed appointments anc all and had to call another company that I wished I used from the beginning. With times they way they are, ppl having to move, payments are high for everything dealing with moves, I sincerely hope you all do the right thing to regain my confidence in you all. I gave them 1 star because 0 wasn't an option. And to be fair, the TWO guys that came to move our 4br house were rockstars. They deserve to work for a much better company. Cavalier moving is well named--that's the attitude they took towards our move. TWO guys. A 2100+ sq foot house. TWO. and a truck that was too small to hold everything. The guy who booked the move told us it would be three guys--that was a lie. Cavalier would have had to pay a third guy, and the move would have been faster, so they wouldn't have made as much money. Don't even try to deny that, Cavalier. They didn't bother sending someone out to survey--that would cost them money. They didn't ask for pictures or anything. Just asked questions on the phone. Estimated a 4hr move. Really? You have superman on the payroll? 12 hours later, the truck is finally empty at our new place. Not ALL our stuff, mind you. No, my husband and I will have to find other help for that. Of course, Cavalier is THRILLED. its an hourly cost--not flat rate. And when i talk to the manager to complain, he says, "oh a third guy wouldn't have made that big of a difference in time." I guess the third guy just stands around and tells everyone what to do. Kind of like the guy I talked to. He was SO sorry I wasn't happy. Yeah, right. NEVER EVER do business with this company. The management is crap, they under estimate the move by a LOT to hook you, then make you pay thru the nose at the end. And you DO pay, or they WILL call the cops.
