I was in so much pain, there would be weeks when I was in a living hell from the pain and debilitation. Dr. Matin succeeded in pulling me back from the edge of hopelessness and despair, and not only restoring my health, but adjusting my lifestyle so I live healthier and stronger than I have ever been in the past 20+ years. He was an incredible listener, asking pointed questions and listening to the circumstances around my condition for a long time (~hour), longer than any other doctor, friend, or family member had taken to consider my illness. He was not satisfied with relieving my immediate symptoms, although that was a priority. He was determined to get to the root cause. We worked together to get to the bottom of an ongoing, enigmatic, and ever-changing condition. He was able to recommend high quality lab tests, and distinguish between what was relevant and what was noise. His prognosis was not a lazy wide net cast over a variety of possible causes, but rather a sophisticated, justified, and precise treatment. He drew from a large body of knowledge of how all functions of the body worked together, and was articulate in why he was recommending each of his treatments. Combination of lifestyle changes, herbal supplements, and dietary restrictions relieved the symptoms, and I was able to wean off my dependence on pharmaceutical drugs in a mere couple of weeks. He did not just recommend tests; he recommended the most accurate, visually expressive, high grade tests from the most reliable laboratories in the US. I nearly left NYC to return home because of how debilitated I was; Dr. Matin's treatment and solutions allowed me to stay here to pursue my work and my passion with more natural energy and fervor than I had before. He was always kind, polite and sympathetic, and kept in touch frequently to make sure my condition improved. For whatever hell you are going through, please see Dr. Matin!

For almost 15 years I had suffered with unbearable hot flashes and stomach pain. I saw naturopathic…read moredoctors , internal medicine doctors, gastroenterologists with numerous endoscopies, colonoscopies, lab tests and different medication including antibiotic regimens too. None of these methods helped me fix my problems and, even worse, none of them provided any conclusive results, it was such a frustrating experience. I even tried a difficult and tortuously-strict gluten-free diet for a long period of time with no relief either. Finally I met Dr. Shamim Matin and immediately felt his goal was to simply find a source of my issues rather than get me out of the door with a new medication to "try and see how I do." He ordered 3 types of specific blood test as well as a stool test and after the results came back he sat with me and explained every small detail regarding the findings of the tests. He didn't rush through anything and truly felt motivated to educate me about my own health, an experience that I have never had at any other doctor visits. Dr. Matin was able to deduce at specific diet and supplement regimen that was based solely on MY lab results and physical examination rather than some generalization of symptoms that other doctors tried to constantly placed me into. Now after our visits, I am 6 months free of ANY problems I had before, I am a different person with no pain, no bloating, no hot flashes, more energy and I feel so healthy and happy that I was able to find a solution that actually SOLVED my problems rather than simply masked them with different meds that needed to be changed every few weeks because they didn't actually attack the source. I cannot emphasize how much of an amazing experience I had with the amount of attention and detail Dr. Matin provided me, it was the first time that I felt the doctor was as motivated as me to find a solution and it is an experience I hope every human being can have, we trust our doctors so much and to feel you're their priority when we go in with different issues is something that unfortunately has become so rare. What I learned from Dr. Matin and our visits was that certain bacteria in our guts, just like during infections, for example, can overgrow and cause a lot of different symptoms, and a lot of doctors simply give medication to control the symptoms. Dr. Matin showed me through every visit what his goal was, his reason for doing it, and also evidence and science of why and how it works to eradicate the actual source of the symptoms. Thank you so much for changing my life! I thought getting older meant learning to deal with more problems and pains, I didn't know it was possible to be completely symptom free. I wish knew you 15 years ago and didn't suffer all those years, but I am glad and hopeful that my experience can serve others going through similar chronic issues in finding a solution. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Matin for anyone that feels they have been passed around from one office to the next without any real change in their health problems.

She called to set up an appointment to renew a prescription for some medication related to her mental health. The office staff told her the next appointment was weeks away, so she asked if the doctor could get her a temporary prescription until then. At this point the woman she was talking to basically said she had no options and refused to help, going so far as to imply my wife was at fault for leaving it until the last minute and that the doctor's office was trying to contact her as recently as that same morning. We had no missed calls / notices on our end (not that we'd ever expect the doctor's office to *proactively* reach out to us for anything). So my wife was told by this person that she had to get by without the daily meds that help keep issues like suicidal ideation at bay for *weeks*. We addressed the issue the same day in a Vancouver Clinic urgent care appointment. The only positive thing I have to say about this one last experience with PMG is that I'm glad this gave us the opportunity to permanently cut ties with them. This place completely and utterly failed in their duty of care to my wife. The doctors and medical staff here are fantastic, nothing but good things to say once you clear the front desk. And look: mistakes happen, but the person who left my wife vulnerable should not be talking to patients. The way she handled this situation put my wife at risk and I highly doubt it was the first time PMG staff have handled things this badly. Fortunately the only "bad" outcome here was that she caused a lot of stress for both of us. This all happened about a month or two back. I looked for a way to send this complaint directly to PMG but the grievance process isn't made clear online. For all I know I'd just be sending a message to the same woman at the front desk, so I'm posting here instead. We won't be back regardless but you should know this person is putting your patients at risk.

I needed to see a doctor quite desperately but had put it off for well over a month because I didn't know where to go, if I could afford it, and all the other unknowns when you don't have a primary care and health plan backing you up. I found the Alameda Clinic through googling and gave it a chance because of all the wonderful reviews. I showed up at around 9:20 am (walk in hours start at 9am). Dr Dan greeted me personally, I was immediately ushered back to his exam room, we discussed my issue (I have permanent 100% hearing loss in one ear and recently my "good ear" was only operating at about 20%), he did an exam to confirm the problem, and then he fixed it. During this time he mentioned a couple times that there was paperwork but I had yet to do more than tell him my name. Afterwards, almost as an afterthought, he asked if I minded filling out his form. His whole approach is so refreshing, personal and just plain human...of course I didn't mind. The form he handed me was one sided, covered the very basics and took about a minute to fill out. When I met him out in the lobby again, we talked about lychee (a Chinese fruit) and he gave me a taste of something similar. I asked him if he needed the paperwork (I'd left it in the exam room), he waved it off, I asked him how much I owed him, he asked if I could afford $80, I gladly said yes, paid him, asked him if I could give him a hug and was out the door. The whole thing from start to finish, took about 30 minutes, but to say that it was life changing for me is not an exaggeration. Dr Dan is unlike any other doctor i have ever gone to. He is a healer who is genuinely interested in and enjoys engaging with his patients. And I love that he incorporates the things that he is passionate about into your encounter with him. I have since recommended him to everyone I know and will definitely be back the next time the need arises.

I have been trying for three weeks now to get a simple statement showing my payments to MFCC for FSA substantiation and just now received an email bounceback that their office is closed all week. Firstly, it's impossible to reach the front desk - voicemail only. Then they call you back from an unlisted number, so it's impossible to know who is calling. Argh. Then, the doctor requires that you submit new patient paperwork via email for her to review before you are allowed to make an appointment. The reason given is that she might decide she doesn't think you fit in her practice. It then takes a week to hear back after emailing over the paperwork. after which, you need to follow up with them, if you want an appointment. No courtesy call the day before to remind you there's an appointment, so you call to see what's doing there and have to let it ring out and call again. Receptionist answers finally and confirms yes, you do have an appointment. You arrive 10 minutes early, then wait until 25 mins past the start of your appointment time to speak with the Doctor. The Doctor is thorough and nice (if quite defensive about being called out for being so late). Attempts by staff to draw blood - the student MA's attempt is painful and she aborts mission. At this stage, I've been at their office for 1 Hr 40 mins. They tell me they will write a script to go to a lab and have blood drawn. Knowing my personal compliance level to find the time to drive to yet another appointment is very low, tell them not to bother. Needless to say, despite friendly student medical assistant and thorough/friendly Doctor, I'm still in the market for a new GP. A busy schedule, low tolerance for being gratuitously poked with needles and a general aversion to waiting = this probably isn't the right place for me.

Also, no provider in my opinion should tell a patient they can't have celiac disease going off of gluten antibody testing alone, especially when there was no gluten trial and only occasional accidental exposure. I was only concerned about cross contamination at that point, I already knew I can't eat gluten. Yet I was told I couldn't have celiac disease and I believed them at the time. I even tried to force eating gluten again because of their comments about it causing me diarrhea when I was constipated at the time, like it was a good thing helping my GI and suggesting I made myself constipated by not eating gluten containing grains. That really messed with my head for sometime. But in reality, they should have checked for celiac genes too. It runs in my immediate family.

Our favorite providers (Dr Pritchard and Nancy Casey) left. Some staff members can be pretty unhelpful and truly only seem to care about their billing and rules. The other negative reviews are spot on, sadly. (The current exception is Jonathan, a medical assistant in the adult clinic--he's kind, personable, and was excellent with my teen, but alas, he only does the check in/vitals part). They are consistently late--we always wait at least 30 minutes up to an hour most recently for our appointment to begin, and this is in addition to taking kids out of school to be there 15-20 minutes early to check in! They absolutely do not respect a patient's time and offer zero apology. It's maddening. I've messaged different providers for different family members or reasons, and the same person writes back each time, so it's definitely not secure or private in any way. She also types the absolute minimum and doesn't seem to want to help in any way, but if you call, they tell you to message via the portal. They up-charged us for longer or more involved appointments for my kids even though we've only discussed one issue at the short appointment, and when I questioned the billing department, they said they'd immediately remove the charge since I asked about it. Since I asked?! So if people don't notice and question the additional charge, they just get scammed? Appalling. They recently told me the next available check in for a child was in several months. I said our prescription will lapse before then, and they asked if I still wanted to schedule. I had to point out in writing that they need to refill the prescription temporarily so it doesn't lapse if we have to wait for an appointment or else please fit us in for even a video appointment. I had to fight this back and forth and once I said I need to confirm you are refusing to refill a child's necessary medicine prescription and also making her wait for an appointment so the medicine will lapse and it will affect her health immediately--finally then they suddenly had an appointment available in two days (which was a video appointment where we waited almost an hour for them to come online and didn't until I called the office and told them we were online waiting.) The final straw was in taking a teen to discuss a medical issue they were already anxious about, and the provider made a big deal about her weight to the point of hinting that she'll develop an eating disorder (child feels fine about their diet and eats well/healthy) and we left the appointment with teen crying and anxious about a condition they don't even have! We're done with SMC, and I'm so sad. Dr Pritchard and Nancy Casey were amazing women and great resources for our neighborhood, but sadly this place has gone so far downhill since they left that I won't risk my kids' health here anymore.

The staff at Sellwood Medical Clinic showed a lack of empathy and professionalism. Here is a summary of three interactions I had with this clinic. In November 2025, I arrived about 30 minutes early for an appointment and was told to wait until my scheduled time. Once I was taken to the exam room, I waited another hour for the clinician to arrive. At the time, I did not mind because she was thorough and friendly. She recommended that I return for a well-person visit. I had to wait 5 months for a well-person visit appointment. Then, shortly before the appt, it was cancelled. I received an email and voicemail saying the provider had to leave early and that I needed to call to reschedule. When I called back to reschedule, the next available appointment was another month away. My most recent experience, two weeks ago, is the reason I am writing this review. The appointment I had been waiting five months for finally arrived. I completed the online pre-check-in hours in advance, which took more than 20 minutes, and I paid my copay. Because of rain and traffic, I arrived shortly after my scheduled appointment time. The clinic said staff told me I was nine minutes late. I had also paused outside to let an elderly couple enter first, which delayed my check-in by a few minutes. I was refused care and told I would need to reschedule. I explained that I urgently needed the visit and calmly asked whether they could reconsider. I also noted that my previous appointment had been cancelled and that this was the rescheduled date. Attending these appointments requires time away from work. The front desk employee went back again to relay my request. By that point, I was in tears. During this time, two women behind the reception desk were giggling and laughing. I do not know what they were laughing about, but I was visibly upset while they looked my way, talked, and laughed. It felt unsettling and deeply unprofessional. Ultimately, I was not seen. Neither clinic management nor the clinician came out to speak with me. The front desk employee apologized again and said I would have to reschedule. Afterward, I emailed the clinic to ask for more information about their "9-minute policy." I was told in writing that no such formal policy exists. Their response stated: "The 9 minute grace time for being late to an appointment is not a clinic policy, it is the most amount of time we can give for a patient to arrive for the appointment and still be seen." I then had to request they refund my copayment 3 days after this incident. Overall, this experience was highly unprofessional. The clinic delayed my care by cancelling and postponing my appointment, then denied services because I was allegedly nine minutes late. I will not continue trying to receive care at Sellwood. A medical clinic and its staff should treat patients with compassion and empathy, and I experienced neither. I left feeling embarrassed and unsupported. Although it may take time to see another provider, the wait will be worth it. I encourage patients to choose a clinic where they feel heard and supported.
