Nice beach, pretty shallow, small area but has a lifeguard which helps if you want to relax. Beach was sandy, a little rocky. Volleyball net, seems like a place to boat launch, kayak. read more

Was great trip. Cabins are great! Lake fun with swimming, boating and fishing! Kids loved it!

No electric to hook up to camper so we can't use our blocks to charge our phone and we can't use our fans so the camper is hot.

We stayed two nights here on our way east. Very nice park with a couple hundred camp sites and several cabins. It's an easy three mile bike ride into town on quiet back streets. And the local biking is great. The bathroom and shower facilities are dated but are kept clean. There is some truck traffic at 7 am for about 15-20 minutes. We arrived without a reservation. You technically didn't need one as the place was only 10% occupied. But, the New York parks, like many states, use a third party reservation system. And the number posted to call had two digits transposed, which reached a service to sign you up for medical alerts instead. There was a person in duty who took care of us. But, best to reserve on mine, even the same day, to avoid any problems. Note that the nearest places to get diesel fuel are out by thr NY Thruway, almost ten miles away. read more

For my 29th year of life (which I've been celebrating for 11 years now), I went way off the deep end and way outside of my comfort zone ... I CAMP NOW--can you believe it?? For this banner year of life, my family and I took to the road in our new-to-us rockin' '99 conversion van and sturdy '97 pop-up camper to get off the grid and into nature. Cayuga Lake State Park was my campground pick for my actual birthday. I wanted to turn 29 years old (which mathematically equates to a quartet of decades) on a beautiful beach--and the beach here on Cayuga Lake more than fits that bill. It's a small, lovely beach with great views all hours of the day, especially sunset. On June 4th of this year, it was unseasonably cool, barely 50 degrees. But I still sat in that sand in a bathing suit to soak up some brisk rays and beautiful scenery. The campground itself was very nice. I can only speak for the electric side of the park (this 29-year old has her off-grid limits, and still demands an outlet for her blowdryer). Our site (site #4) was small and dropped off in the back, but had enough level ground to still set up safely. We were right across from one of the bathhouses, which was clean with spacious showers. Not updated, but perfectly functional and well kept. Sites were fairly spacious and spread out, many with some shade. The electric sites are a short walk to the lake and playground, but it is a hill to get back up to the campsites. Your calves will thank you later. Beyond being in the serene Finger Lakes countryside, the campground doesn't have a ton of amenities. There is a cute pirate-themed playground on the lake. There are pavilions with picnic areas, and some horseshoe pits. And that's about it. The lake is really the star of the show. The fishing was fantastic. I don't fish, but my hub'ster, dad, and kids do. They all pulled something out of the lake. There were lots of fishermen around hooking lots of bass, pickerel, perch and other goodies too. I watched all of this happening from my blanket on the beach. ;-) The park check-in staff was very friendly, and knowledgeable about the area. We explored the village of Seneca Falls, did some wine tasting (when we ditched the kids for the latter half of my birthday trip--thanks grandparents!), and road tripped down to Taughannock Falls State Park to hike the waterfall trail (about a 40-minute drive down). Cayuga Lake State Park is in a convenient location to explore the Finger Lakes region in general. Overall, I was very pleased with this camping experience. We're new to camping, and working our way through trying out all of the state parks in our region. But eventually we'll be back to Cayuga Lake State Park again. I'm definitely happy I chose this location to ring in a new year of life. For the 11th time. Trust me, the math is accurate. ;-) read more

I made a reservation for 7 nights at this campground. Plans changed and we arrived two days into our reservation intending to stay for 5 nights. We did not realized until the first morning that the pile of black stuff on the patio was bat dung. That morning we witnessed dozens of bats returning home for the night to the building we were staying in. On the third afternoon we saw a bat hanging from the outside of a screen door. My husband and I inspected the grounds for the bat but it had gone (or so we thought) . He and I remained outside at the picnic table and a short time later I realized my arm was bleeding. When I cleaned the wound my husband and I both observed that I had two little distinct puncture wounds. I was at the emergency room until about 9PM and was told that I had to go home to New Hampshire to be treated with a series of shots that I will endure over the next couple of weeks. I camp often. This is my first time camping in NY. I believe it will be the last time. I knew that there was no bathroom in the cabin. I knew that there was no hot water. I knew that I had to bring a lot of stuff with us like bedding and cookware, But I did not think that I would be living in a bat house, full of flies.. I did not know that we would find rodent dung behind the microwave on the counter where I would be preparing food. I did not think there would be carpenter ants crawling all over that same counter. If I had known all that, I never would have rented the Hell hole. I get to visit with my daughter just once per year and that cabin completely ruined that visit. That building is unsuitable for people and pets. In addition, There is a highway that runs through it. The other guest were very quiet, but the traffic noise did not really add to the ambiance. The lake is across the street and the swimming area is small and too shallow for an adult to swim in. And the RVs are packed pretty tight. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I cannot think of one good thing to say about it. I am including pics that my daughter took hastally as we fled. But since it was dark you cannot really see the mouse turds on the kitchen counter. And the roof leaks. I keep forgetting that because it just seemed like something I should have expected. Most of what I have written I have already sent to the park and I think everyone should take a look at the response I got to my request, no my demand, for my money back (at least) and compensation for the hotel we had to stay in and my medical bills. I think if you are thinking about staying there you should read their response because I think it will help you decide if this place is really for you. "Hello, We are very sorry that your experience at Cayuga Lake State Park was not a pleasurable visit. There is a very high population of wildlife in the area. Animals such as bats, mice, chipmunks, ants, flies, bees, birds, skunks, racoons, fox, coyote, etc are a normal occurrence when camping in a nature setting. We take precautions and continue to make improvements to try and minimize wildlife interactions. This area also has a very high bat population. It is not uncommon at all for the bats to roost on the outside of the buildings and under porch eves on the buildings in the park. Unfortunately there are times when wildlife such as mice, chipmunks, flies or bees find entry, occupy the space and may leave droppings or get into a food source. This may be very unappealing, but our cleaners do very well to ensure the dwelling is clean and ready for use when you arrive. Many times animals gain entry after the patron has arrived. We cannot issue a refund for your camping stay. You will not be reimbursed your hotel costs or your medical costs, as there was no negligence on the part of the park that caused what occurred." read more

After doing a ton of research of where to stay in the Finger Lakes, I booked a cabin at Cayuga Lake State Park off of Seneca Lake. I like camping but I don't have a ton of camping gear, so renting a cabin was a good compromise. The cabins are simple, efficient, but clean and well-appointed. There is a toilet (no sink or shower), a stove, a refrigerator, electricity and outlets for charging all your accessories, and my cabin had a queen bed and twin beds. Bring your own sheets and pillows and enjoy the sweet, silent repose of camping. Plus, stock up on firewood as each campsite has a little fire pit, perfect for cuddling up at dusk after a day of exploring. The park is a little close to the main road but it is not too bad, and my cabin was in a little cul-de-sac with other cabins so I felt very safe. There was a nice, neighborly community among all the campers, lots of families. I felt very safe the entire time. And the sunrise over Seneca Lake every morning? Breathtaking! Super dog friendly, super safe for solo travelers, and an overwhelming abundance of natural beauty. What a wonderful, relaxing getaway. read more
