Decent uptown Asian supermarket if you're looking for a less busy calm experience…read more Ranch Fresh Supermarket was our go-to at the start of the pandemic when they were one of the first stores to introduce masking for peace-of-mind. We still come back every so often as they still offer fair prices without corporate markup. Walking in, the familiar arrangement is in place with produce section in front right with a good variety of Asian vegetables & fruits. This is followed by packaged meats, butcher counter, frozen products, seafood section in the back with nowadays standard prices. The dairy, bakery, sushi and hot food sections round out the left side with some weekly specials. Between this is the usual set of narrow Asian grocery aisles. This isn't the most polished or busy supermarket but browsing here is pleasant with the relative calm that you don't always feel at congested places. From hot food specials, we tried their stir-fry eggplant ($5.98), sweet & sour fish fillet ($9.98) and Cantonese chow mein ($4.98) in good takeout portions. The eggplant and fish were both flavourful while the noodles tasted less authentic. There's a small seating area upfront. Skip it or hit it? When we're occasionally in the area, it's our preferred grocer for old times sake.

This review is based on one visit in January 2022…read more In era of a pandemic, grocery runs are major outings, and sometimes the only outing in a week. So it is only fitting that the first review I write in 2022 is on a grocery store. Ranch Fresh is good - the store is spacious, brightly lit, clean, well organized, well ventilated, cheerfully decorated. The fresh meat is really fresh. Just like other Asian supermarkets, most fresh meat items are sold by weight behind a butcher counter. There is some prepackaged meat if you prefer to grab and go. There is a big produce section with great varieties. Pricing is higher than its sibling store Field Fresh (Scarborough) and just about the same as Full Fresh (Markham). I cannot comment on services, because I didn't require any assistance. There aren't many Asian grocery stores in Newmarket. I trust Ranch Fresh is a good addition to the neighbourhood, providing diversity, variety and convenience.

I had no idea that there was a location here. I went to a Yelp event a year ago and was introduced to Wild Fork in Oakville. I had a wonderful experience and wondered where the closest location was to my home. It's this location by a smidge over the Whitby location. I drove over here and had no problem finding parking. This Wild Fork is in a plaza with plenty of parking. I parked and walked over. It looked like there were free samples. I learned that this store was celebrating its one-year anniversary and was hiring staff. Congrats! I got a small sampler of grilled items. I got some sausage, a slice of picanha, grilled pineapple, and a small corn rib. It was the perfect sampler, as I was heading for an early dinner. Everything was delicious. I headed inside. The store is set up like its Oakville counterpart. There is so much meat in hermetically sealed packages. The corn and pineapple that I sampled were available here, too. There is everything for everyone, whether you're a meat person or not. I liked seeing everything from hamburger buns and scones, to frozen fruit and veggies. The Oakville location had Korean BBQ beef ribs. I loved them so much that I wanted to pick up a package at this store. It took a bit of time to find them, but I did. I was pleased that they were on sale. It's nice that they are already marinaded. You basically take them out of the bag and cook them. Simple. I pan-fried them on either side for three to our minutes. Done! The downside shopping here is that it's not the cheapest place to get food. I don't shop here often, so it's a treat when I buy something that I love and is yummy. I was lucky that my beef ribs were on sale. Proteins are by the pound. The other downside was customer service at the checkout. There was a couple taking their sweet time and then male staffer was friendly and chatty to them. An older woman was in front of me. He apologized for the delay and talked an earful with her. When it came to me, I got none of that fluff. It was hi, how would you like to pay, and here's your item. Why did you turn off your charm? You are a black man buttering up a Waspy couple and older woman. Is it because I'm not white that you view me as chopped liver in a meat store? It was weird and a bit uncomfortable not getting the same treatment. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was done. He put my frozen beef ribs in a paper bag. I thanked him and left. Since I was out and about for a few hours, I put my item in an insulated bag with other frozen items. When I got home, everything was still pretty frozen. I cooked the beef ribs on Sunday and had them with ramen. Delicious! They were flavourful and tender. It was great having them again. I'll visit the Whitby location and see how I feel. Maybe it was a one-off incident with this staffer. Perhaps I'll get another one who will treat everyone the same way next time. Classic Fireplace was also out here, showing off its fancy pizza and the Egg. My friend, Paige, features his Egg regularly when he grills. It was cool seeing the Egg up close. Impressive! (321)

We had been ordering online via the Gocery app. Super easy to use and we use it like a grocery shopping list. In the beginning of the pandemic, you didn't need to tip for delivery. Customer service is wonderful as well. If Centra doesn't have certain items, they might call and ask if you'd like a refund or exchange for another. The rep mentioned that it's cheaper to order through their website and delivery is free (over $99). Tipping wasn't necessary either. I've only had issues once out of the numerous we've ordered. They had forgotten something and ended up re-delivering an item to me. Everything was always fresh. We especially love their salmon filets. I did notice sometimes we had due dates that were a bit close to expiry though (yogurt, milk). But if you have an extra freezer it probably won't matter. We'll be getting our groceries here for a long while.

It had the more popular pastina as the only small pasta. Bummer. I needed orzo. While in Aurora, I passed by this Longo's. I know that Longo's has a decent selection of pasta. This store ended up exceeding my expectations. I had been in this plaza a month or so ago. It has Wild Wings and Booster Juice that I had visited. It was time to go grocery shopping here. I found a parking spot fairly close to the exit. I don't mind walking a bit further to get to the entrance. It's better to be closer to the exit when you're hauling groceries. That thought could be just me. Prepared sandwiches greeted me. I was transfixed by the prepared foods. I love the empanadas at Longo's that you can grab and heat up. I also liked seeing meal kits. The floral section was pretty. It was nice looking at the orchids. There were lots of roses. I found the pasta section. Each Longo's has a similar setup, which makes finding what I need to be a breeze. This store has an extensive selection of pasta. I saw heart-shaped pasta just in time for Valentine's Day. I was happy to see small pasta varieties by Italpasta. The big, um, small four were all there: - Acini de pepe - Alphabet - Orzo - Baby shells I was elated to grab a box of orzo. I felt so accomplished finding what I needed. I was intrigued seeing charcoal-greyish khorasan pasta. I may need to return to give it a try. Naturally, I wandered over to the bakery section. Butter tarts. Cheese sticks. Croissants. Cake. I wanted it all. There was a cake loaf sale. If I bought a loaf, I got a second one for free. I ended up getting banana walnut and carrot. I got the nicest woman at the checkout. She looked at the loaves and was surprised that this deal was going on. There were a bunch of BOGO deals, including cosmic apples that I was tempted to get. I had my Longo rewards barcode scanned. I then paid with a credit card. Done! I put all my items in my reusable bag. I thanked the woman and happily left with my goods. The loaves are yummy. I tend to have a slice of each flavour when I feel the need to have a snack. I'm glad that I got them. I enjoyed shopping here. When I'm in the area again, I'd stop by for my grocery needs. (35)

This week I dropped in very early just after the store opened to get some fish and produce for my wife's birthday dinner. Everything from the food to the service exceeded our expectations. We started with the oysters, crudo, charred avocado, charbroiled Moroccan octopus, hot pull-and-tear bread, and the deep-fried Brussels sprouts. Every dish was packed with incredible flavour, beautifully presented, and perfect for sharing. For our entrées, we had the Branzino and the Dukkah Roasted Lamb Sirloin with yam chips, and both were cooked to perfection. To complement our meal, we enjoyed two bottles of Bojador wine, which paired beautifully with our entrées and elevated the entire dining experience. We couldn't leave without dessert. The Portuguese tarts served with gelato were absolutely delicious--warm, flaky, and the perfect balance of sweetness. We also had the crème brûlée, which had a perfectly crisp caramelized top with a rich, creamy custard underneath. It was the perfect way to end an incredible meal. A huge thank you to Sarah and Jeff, who made both visits so memorable. They were warm, attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely made us feel like valued guests. Their exceptional service was just as impressive as the food. It's rare to leave a restaurant and immediately want to come back the very same day, but Fishbone Aurora absolutely earned it. Whether you're looking for a place for a business meeting, a date night, or a family dinner, I can't recommend it enough. We'll definitely be back!

The restaurant is brightly lit with lots of natural sunlight, the decor is a mix of elegance and rustic at the same time. It's got an open and inviting feel. Our server was fantastic - very patient with a large group like ours, able to tell us right off the bat what is and is not customizable, recommendations of when to order to ensure flow works out. Food: Charbroiled octopus - one of my favorite dishes I tried - perfectly cooked, has a nice char, good meaty bits but not chewy, has a really nice chili oil on it. I can not stress how much I recommend getting this if you enjoy seafood. 5/5. Chorizo appetizer - comes out in a little pig plate with an open flame underneath. The chorizo itself is good with a nice spice, dense meat. The best part of this dish (IMO) is the spiced apple sauce on the side that cuts the richness of the sausage with a sweet and tangy apple and a little spice kick. 4.5/5. Bread - fresh baked bread with butter, a pumpkin jam and cheese. Everything on that plate works so well together. I definitely recommend this as an all rounding pleasing appetizer - 5/5. Beets - the beets were fresh with a vibrant orange colour. The apple, walnut and goat cheese all work together. I do wish this dish had a bit more but it works. 4.5/5. Brussel sprouts - amazing deep fried brussel sprouts - makes me want to always deep fry them for life. The spicy harissa sauce works well with the sprouts. Crunchy peanuts on top add both a texture and nuttiness that is refreshing to the brussel sprouts. 5/5. Oysters - super fresh, absolutely delicious without any condiments needed. Loved them. 5/5. Paella - this is definitely large enough for 2 people to eat so consider sharing unless you have a monster appetite. As with all their plates, it is beautifully constructed. The shrimp are huge and meaty. Mussels are plentiful, lots of chorizo and bay scallops. The rice has that really nice briny seafood flavor from the broth. It was just a teeny tiny bit overly salty to my taste but it's cut with the dollops of sour cream. Has this really nice low level heat that just works without burning your mouth. 4.5/5. Lamb sirloin - great crust on the lamb and cook as well. Flavorful sear and crust on the lamb with a soft tender meaty interior. Can't go wrong with- 5/5. Branzino - delicious flaky and light with a great grill. If you're interested in a fresh fish, this is a good choice. Was a special on the menu - 5/5. Prices: Fine dining pricing but you get the excellent food, service and experience for the price.

We came on a very cold winter day and the upper floor (main dining area) was noticably warmer. We were seated right away without a reservation. Our server was very upbeat, friendly, and accommodating to some of our customization requests (e.g. certain salad ingredients and dressing on the side, substitute shrimps with extra scallops, etc.). Food came out relatively quick (there were only 1-2 other occupied tables when we were there). Service was excellent. The music playing in the background was a combination of hip-hop, R&B, and jazz. The dining room had a casual and relaxed ambiance, with a somewhat dark lighting and fake candle on every table. We got the Seafood Platter for 2, but there was enough food for 4-5 people. It came with 2 big pieces of salmon, a whole "market fish catch of the day" (not sure what fish it was, but it tasted like swordfish and was very tasty), 2 lobster tails, crab legs, baby octopus, squid / calamari, scallops, shrimps (which we opted to change for extra scallops), and some microgreens on top for garnish. We could choose to have the seafood grilled, fried, or a mix of both - we chose the grilled option. All of the seafood came on a long wooden board, with lots of butter at the bottom (I wish they didn't put any / so much butter!). The Seafood Platter came with a side of grilled vegetables (rapini, asparagus, carrot) and baby potatoes. We added on an extra plate of the grilled vegetables and potatoes, as well as Arugula Salad. The variety of the seafood in the Seafood Platter was excellent. They were very generous with portion size. Everything was really tasty and I loved the charred grill mark, especially on the scallops. They pre-cracked the crab legs and lobster tails, making it easier to eat. The crab and baby octopus came as a surprise (to our delight!), because the menu didn't say that the platter would come with those 2 types of seafood. The "market fish catch of the day" came as a whole fish and de-boned (just the filet and skin). I liked this more than the salmon, which was cooked well done. This restaurant lives up to its name - excellent place for seafood.

I started with the yogurt parfait, it was like 5 small scoops of warm yogurt with a sprinkle of granola and maybe 3/4 of a strawberry with 4 blueberries. After getting that I knew the steak and eggs I ordered was not going to be great. As expected, the steak was for sure sous vide before slapping it on the grill given that it was mushy in texture and when I asked the waitress before ordering if she could cook mine more rare she told me that the chefs make all the steaks at medium (that shouldve been a red flag that she didnt ask how she would like my steak cooked). It came with unseasoned home fries and 2 pieces of the driest toast with no butter? We asked our waitress for some condiments and butter and she completely forgot and we had to ask her a few times before she came back with just butter (we scoured the restaurant for some ketchup). The sunny side eggs that came with it was mediocre, but how can you mess up eggs, right? The dessert I ordered the creme brulee which was the best part of the meal (which isnt saying much). My brother also ordered the creme brulee but his tasted completely different... this already tells me how inconsistent the kitchen and staff are. The whole meal costed us $455 and this included the autograt of 20%. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This was for 6 mothers day brunch meals and a kids pasta. The service was non existent and the food was absolute trash. My 9 year old niece couldve made a better meal with her eyes closed. With $455 we couldve had a lobster dinner for a family of 6. There really is no difference of getting robbed for real and eating at this place, you both lose money and get absolutely nothing out of it.
