She consistently came home with beautiful artwork and learned about and applied new techniques with each class, including a lovely "under the sea" watercolor using salt to create bubbles. The Montrose team went above and beyond to develop a portraiture curriculum which she has pursued for the last 3+ years. In addition, the staff has helped us find solutions to accommodate scheduling conflicts that impacted her regular classes. She has developed strong relationships with multiple teachers, all of whom have been incredibly supportive and invested in her art journey. Yet here I am, after a little over a month, sketching things that can be recognized by others and having a great time doing it - a minor miracle. Cynthia meets all my criteria for a good instructor. She is patient, gives clear instructions and can explain things in a way I can understand them. She has a great eye and always knows just the right correction to make. She also creates a great atmosphere, makes sure new students are introduced, encourages us to get out to the latest exhibit, and plays a nice selection of classical music. The only reason I didn't give five full stars is because they are a bit on the pricey side, but they are still worth it. 4/3/2013 - I have finished both the basic drawing class and the tone class and am now dabbling in oil paint. She shows demos for different drawing and painting projects and gives helpful critique and feedback on our work. She created easy to follow steps for us to understand difficult cast, face or figure drawings and paintings. She gives amazing anatomy lectures and demos on understading bones and muscles and drawing them. Her painting mathod of starting from big planes and gradually going to smaller planes and details is wonderful and very helpful. She also has an incredible pallette and methods to avoid seeing any dirty colors in any painting. She even helps us find creative subjects for our projects. We have taken ballroom dance classes with Tony at CCLCF for two years and feel very confident that we can dance when we go to parties or other public events. Tony teaches a single dance in each 6-8 week session, so you develop a strong "muscle memory" for the dance by adding a new step each week. It's much more effective than other dance schools that try to teach multiple dances for a shorter time every week. Definitely recommend Tony's ballroom dance classes!

She took various groups shots always paying great attention to detail. This was a wonderful experience and I would absolutely book again. We were the only party at the time, she laid out all the art to choose from. The space was clean and large enough to accommodate my 10 group and plenty of space to walk around. There were couches and kitchen area with a small refrigerator. Overall the space was a 10. Experience a 10. And instruction a 10.

I began painting about 2 years ago at another Art Association location. It was just the very basics…read moreand at least let me put some paint onto paper. I struggled to find another place to take in-person watercolor classes after I got what i could from the basics class. I found it here with Donna as the mentor. I drive 100 miles RT to take this 2.5 hr class. At first I was a bit concerned about the cost and the fact that the first painting is set my the teacher, however, given the professional art paints, brushes and paper, it is a bargain, even for a beginner. The first painting did take me about 8 or 9 sessions, but there are many techniques involved. I got instruction (often personalized to my needs), and was able to practice on 100% cotton paper before applying the paint to my painting. There is a maximum of 8 students in class. The techniques are not just basics but often involved and I have used them in the many paintings I have completed since that first painting. After the first painting, you can paint anything you want, and Donna will support you even if the subject is not optimal. She will truly help you make a great painting and will encourage you along when you have difficulty. Class is a fun experience with people of various backgrounds, including people with degrees in art. While I spend more time traveling to and from class, it is well worth it. I have attached some paintings I have done in this class, once I completed the first one.

The entire course covers just one painting which is done very slowly and must be done exactly as the instructor does. Step by excruciatingly slow step. I had explained in an email prior to enrolling and then again on the first day of class that I had a year's worth of watercolor experience. Donna should have told me at that time that the course wasn't for me. This was the biggest waste of money I've incurred in the five years I've been taking classes. I stopped going after the 4th class and never heard from the instructor. She was probably just glad that I didn't confront her and ask for a refund.

The classroom sizes are small, and there are a few teachers per class, resulting in a very low ratio of students-to-teachers, with lots of personal attention. There is tons of fun and exploratory play for the children, some music days, and the children are always coming home with new arts/crafts type of things from fun projects.
