Everyone mentions the chic, trendy and well healed. Yes there were a lot of very lovely people there, but that alone doesn't give it 5 stars. It is a good restaurant, but there is a bit of the "trying too hard" element at work. We had just arrived in London from several days on the coast in Cornwall and were tired and in need of good food. We couldn't get anyone to answer the phone to make a reservation so we walked over and asked if they could fit us in. She said she could, but it would be more than 2 hours (it was early around 7:30) and there were numerous tables empty. We saw seats at the bar and found out they served dinner there. Perfect! We love eating at the bar. And it was, for the most part, great. But many of those empty tables were still empty when we left, nearly 2 hours later. It reeks of the kind of place that would rather turn you away than admit they were taking walk-ins on a Saturday night. Fortunately Francesco, bartender/waiter saved the day. He was attentive, helpful and good at what he does. We ordered starters. Husband had meatballs which he labeled bland and not interesting. I had the chicken liver pate crostini which was good. The liver could have had more seasoning, but the carmelized onions on top made up for the shortcomings of the pate. They were outstanding. For mains I had the organic salmon with salad. It was well cooked. The salad was a wee overdressed. My husband had Tagliatelle with clams and botargo which he declared excellent. Definitely would order it again. Dessert, I had the Tiramisu which was good but nothing to write home to mother about. My husband had pistachio ice cream but a single serve was about the size of the sorbet palette cleanser they used to serve between courses. Price. Hmmmm. It was overpriced. I was having a vodka tonics, which were 10.50 in pounds equalling $19.50 US. A bit much. It isn't a bad place. There are just a lot of places who do that kind of thing much better. Would I go back? Probably not. But I might just to sit at the bar and enjoy a grossly overpriced drink at the bar with Francesco -- and to watch the people watching each other. read more

I agree with other reviews that Cecconi's is without question a more "up-market" Italian restaurant with good and possibly great food. Last night we enjoyed the: - Selection of crostini & bruschetta - creative, worth trying, but not a must - Buffalo mozzarella, cherry tomato & basil - excellent - Mix endive, gorgonzola, walnuts & pear - terrible - Crab ravioli - great dish Honestly, the service was brutally slow. I was not in a rush and appreciate a slow dinner, but the service bordered on inattentive. Also, at this price point, the food should be exceptional. I am a fan! Had lunch with a client here last week and it was really really good. Fist off, the service was impeccable! So hard to find good service in the UK and the level of service is what you expect at a business lunch place like this. I had the scallops which was really really tasty and we shared a few sides of spinach, zuchinni and salad. Very nice to drop in after shopping in bond street for relaxing lunch. I came here twice for lunch and both times I was very lucky to have reservation and be seated to enjoy the company of the locals. Italian waiters are on point as well. Seriously good pappardelle pasta with lamb and artichoke ragu. I was expecting more pretentiousness, smaller portions, and higher prices but was pleasantly surprised on all fronts. I was stuffed by the end of the meal and I found the service to be very friendly and professional. On a last minute whim (9:20 PM), I made a reservation here on recommendation from the concierge at The Stafford - it started as a table for 2 at 10 PM and soon changed to a table for 4, and by the time we arrived there were 5 us. The hostess didn't bat an eyelash and we were easily accommodated. The pasta and the dessert were the standouts for the evening. The only slight service downside was the fact that everyone kept reminding us how late it was and that the kitchen was closing / running out of items. As something of an Italian food connoisseur, I thoroughly enjoy Cecconi's. It seems very authentic Italian, and the place has a great energy. It's on the more expensive and fancy end of the spectrum, so I typically only go when my parents are in town. That being said, the prices are at least somewhat justified with perfectly executed Italian food. We ordered a delicious vegetarian risotto when I was last here which was top-notch. I also enjoyed my homemade ravioli and the roasted potatoes as a side. Nice place to go in central London with dependable, quality food and sure to impress guests or out-of-towners! read more

Overall I wasn't impressed with this place unlike my friends. I don't get sucked into the whole "this is a posh place and therefore the food is excellent". The waitresses were attentive and polite. The ambience was good, very family orientated for a Sunday brunch. The food was nothing special. It wasn't much of a brunch menu but rather a dinner menu. I have been to various different Italian restuarants and including those in Italy and this place is just so-so. I can always recommend a few other Italian restuarants in London alone and this restaurant will not be on my list. Soft shell crab - badly presented (I seriously thought it was moving) and it was pretty hard (was it sitting out in the cold for a while or did they reheated it?). I didn't enjoy this dish at all. Selection of crostinia and bruschetta - some of them were too oily but others were good. Royal sea bream, spinach - This was value for money as it was a whole sea bream, pretty good size. Make sure you ask them to debone the fish, although there were still some bones left in the fish. This is quite a messy dish once the waiter deboned the fish but at least it's fresh. Tiramisu - highly recommended. Out of this world. If you want to go for the experience, then give it a go. Otherwise try somewhere else. read more

This service is *excellent* (as you would expect, given the prices), the food is interesting and delecious, and the atmosphere is nice as well. First impression: chic. We were quickly seated at our reserved table and that was the only quick from there on out, with the exception of clearing the plates. It took nearly 30 minutes to get our bottle of prosecco. We were through our first glass before our server took our dinner order, which surprisingly we weren't eleven asked if we would like a starter or salad. Maybe that's just the American expectation in me. Appetizer of beef carpaccio came out quickly. It was not sliced as thin as a typical carpaccio and the olive oil added nothing to it. Loaded with pepper it was bearable. Dinner - sea bass and asparagus. The asparagus was huge which means woody. They didn't shave it, so it was tough to get down. Sea bass - much to be desired. Dessert - score! Blood orange panacotta. Out of this world. Very firm texture, incredible vanilla flavor, top sprinkled with vanilla bean. The service was so impersonal. I would return for drinks at the bar, but not for dinner. read more

A slice of Italian dolce vita in Mayfair. This place has the ability to make you feel restored after just one g&t. A gift. You need to look fabulous or book. I don't mean 4 inch heels and a bandage top, I mean like you OWN Mayfair and have a right to be there (thankfully something I can do, unlike the first). The menu is extensive and Ivy-esque (homely). Service is prompt, reserved and no fuss - and let's face it, you're faking it to be there, so the less questions asked the better. Unavoidably, you will have to navigate the incessant queue and questioning from Abercrombie & Fitch groupies who loiter and snake around the corner like a seeping sore in Mayfair. Retreat with haste to a table inside of Cecconi's and that high note toxic perfume they spray on their bodies can be cleansed by any of Cecconi's offerings. read more

This appears to be one of the places to be seen in Mayfair and it's usually necessary to make a reservation but if like me you can get there early on a Saturday or Sunday, and I mean about 8.00, you can usually get a table while the place fills with London's beautiful people. Real leaf tea served by starched Italian waiters and a really fantastic Eggs Benedict make it one of my favourite places to eat breakfast in London. If, like me, you like a cigar, there are tables outside so you can enjoy a stogie after your breakfast as you watch the world go by and popping in later in the day to sit at one of the green leather bar stools for a reviving prosecco will make you feel like a reel high roller. read more

I came here at the tail end of a uni-reunion brunch and the service was quite strange at first. To be fair, it was that weird time before lunch and I wasn't sure what I wanted, so I opted for dessert of profiteroles and pistachio ice cream, which was STONKING! Our first waiter was French(ish) and pretty unimpressed with me, but was replaced by the most delightful Italian man who told me I'd made a great choice. As an Italian food lover, I've got to say that this is one of the best classic Italian places I've been at, not to mention the food. This restaurant is a great place to gather with friends or just spend some quality time with the loved ones. Has an amazing interior, which makes the atmosphere so calm and yet so lively. The mirrors are my favorite thing in this whole conception, they give a classy and elegant look to the place. The food is amazing, it seems like always the products that are used for the dishes to be cooked are so fresh, especially the vegies, they taste like that they have just been harvested from the garden. Cecconis is an upscale, charming Italian restaurant located in Mayfair near Saville Row in the heart of the fashion district. In the summer they have out door seating. The decor is modern and elegant with large windows offering a view of the street scene of the fashionable and well heeled local residents and restaurant patrons. It's a great restaurant for either a romantic dinner / lunch or to do business. They have a great Veal Milanese and delicious pasta, as well as great bar drinks and a good wine list. The Cacio E Pepe is made with homemade pasta, is mouth watering and better then you will have in Rome. Highly recommended. Reservations required. read more

Cecconi's has a very cool, old-fashioned feel to it, and the service was very good during a busy lunch when I ate there. The food is good, although not exceptional in any way. I had a very respectable gnocchi dish, and the people I ate with all seemed pleased with their food, although nobody remarked about it, so I'd suspect their food was also similarly "good, but not great." However, it does seem pretty reasonably priced, especially for this neighbourhood, and after you eat, you can stroll down Bond Street and admire all the fancy jewelry. Thought I'd try again just to see if maybe the last time was a 'one off bad experience ' NO it has got WORSE. Terribly rude host at front desk telling me my reservation was an hour later ...she was so insistent she started to ignore me and move on to the next victim...I mean customer. I had to show her my open table confirmation email to prove I was right. A swift apology and she showed me to my table ...my friends already sat down wondering why I was so late. Table stuck on the end if no where ...poor service, at times aggressive and for the first time poor food (over cooked salmon and brown avocado) as well as over cooked beef...horrible dessert of which one of the waiters agreed. This is a very busy (even on a Sunday at 3pm) restaurant filled with posh shoppers and tourists. The food is excellent and the interior and accoutrement (dish ware, marble bar, chairs) are all very high end, without being too pretentious. It would have received better marks but the tourists were annoying (they were talking to loudly and standing in the way at the bar) and the service was a tad slow, likely given the business. Maybe I was expecting a lot from a restaurant located in the hottest place in London (off Bond Street) or maybe because all the A listers as usual there which doesn't give enough credit to the below average eatery. Despite the fact that it is well decorated with an art deco/ italian feel, the menu itself lacked of je ne sais quoi. We ordered a bunch of starters as the minestrone (worst I had in ages) Burrata (very sloppy) calamari fritti (that had some wet crust and gaz taste), the highlight of the dinner was the melanzane alla parmigiana (aubergine with cheese) which was really good (1 stars for that) The mains were mediocre, lacked of flavours (salmon, rib eye and even there popular Lobster pasta at 29£) I liked the chocolate fondant with the Pistachios ice cream over the tiramisu (1 star for that) Needless to say that I won't return, not even for the sarcastic and forgetful waiter. read more

The gorgeous setting, those plush green velvet arm chairs an sofas, the luxurious bar and the dim lighting make this restaurant feel exclusive and special. I've been wanting to go here for a long time so being treated twice in a week was double whammy of brilliance for me- or so I thought! The food was... disappointing. I had the oxtail papardelle on my first visit- with a side dish of fried zuccini. Both of these dishes were good, but the papardelle was a little on the cold side and I would have preferred a little more ragu! On my second visit- I started with a crab ravioli- alarmingly for such a smart restaurant 2 out of 3 of my raviolis had crab shell in them. My main course was a butternut squash risotto. I love risotto- but this one was lumpy, slightly overdone and lacked punch in terms of flavour. So far, not so good. I finished with a chocolate pudding, as my spoon entered its side it erupted with chocolate, oozing over my plate- much like the pudding in the m&S advert- it was accompanied by pistachio ice cream- which sadly didn't taste very much of pistachio. Highs and lows, but the highs just weren't good enough considering the setting, ambiance and high esteem the restaurant is given. We were again given a recommendation to go to this restaurant. It is really very nice although I find the menu a bit limited. What I couldn't understand was that we had a reservation for an early dinner and the restaurant was almost empty. I realize this was because we were dining so early (6:00pm). What I couldn't figure out was why we were seated in a corner all the way in the back of the restaurant. We were dressed properly for the place but I couldn't figure it out. A very average experience - food was nothing special and the service was terrible. Lunch took 4.5 hours, largely due to the fact that staff were deliberately avoiding eye contact and therefore any contact with the customers. It even took 30 minutes to get the bill. No consistency in the cocktails either - each one was completely different despite having the same name and ingredients as the previous one. Very disappointing indeed. read more

I'm a pretty big fan of Cecconis. First decided to go a while back because I walk by it almost every day, and it seems to be packed 24/7 - even at nontraditional meal times like between 3 and 5pm mid week, with lots of people standing around the bar but also sitting down and eating. I know that busy does not always mean good, but I just don't see how a place can be so consistently rammed and not be at least above average! Plus the crowd looked pretty good - well dressed women of all ages (25 to 80 years old, not kidding) then sophisticated looking men. Went in with my parents for dinner and sat at the bar and asked for their most popular dishes which were the lobster spaghetti and the veal canelloni. Both did not disappoint. Another feature I enjoyed is that you can order most of the pastas in small or large sizes, for instance, the small canelloni has two pasta strips, while the larger has 3. Have now been in multiple times with my parents and boyfriend. I usually stick with the lobster spaghetti or the veal. Definitely prefer it for lunch and dinner over brunch. The brunch food is nothing special. For instance, the Eggs Benedicts don't come with sides, and the pancake is literally just 1 small-ish pancake on a plate all on its own! Can be pretty busy in the after works drinks time slot so if you want to get a seat at the bar (which is quite nice for two people) I'd recommend not going between 5 and 7pm. Thursday seems to be the busiest night. read more

Great restaurant with fantastic food. The portions are huge. I came here for a party event and was sat to the left in the plush chairs area. The setting here is more intimate than the area to the left which is more traditional tables. For my starter I ordered the burrata with tomato and basil. It was a massive portion enough to feed 3 people. For my main I ordered the special which was a vegetarian spaghetti with truffles. It was amazing- but again a very large portion. Good service as well. I will return but perhaps share portions next time. read more

Cecconi's is as much about the bar scene as anything else.. In fact, I've never sat down in the dining area for a proper meal. Many a long evening has been spent perched at the beautiful white bar (with beautiful and comfortable green leather stools), imbibing in that great combination of martinis, nuts and olives. If you are in the mood to really eat, you can have a meal at the bar (keep your plates small) or in the dining area. The food is not spectacular, but they do simple things well - their veal milanese, for example, is perfectly fine. While the staff is lovely, their attempts at being attentive are usually thwarted by the consistently crowded room. Be patient. read more

Cecconi's is a wonderful place as it has many of the attributes one wants from a restaurant, particularly a: great (Italian) food, great service, a bit of hype, centrally located. The place looks great too with an original choice of green for the chairs, and a nice collection of venitian mirrors that makes the who restaurant stand out as somewhere funky and elegant. A great place for a London dinner, be it with friends, your loved one or for business. Note that it is open till late, unfortunately on the expensive side. read more
