I don't trust anyone with my hair--- I've had the same hair stylist for the last 10 years. But I decided to try out a new place on a whim while on a trip to SD. And they did not disappoint. Trish- She does a great job at taking the time to understand what you want. She asked a lot of questions and made me understand that more hair would be needed to cut in order to achieve the look I wanted (V shape in the back). She knew I didn't want to cut too much so she cut a little at first and went in more when I asked. Uni- I took a chance on Uni because she seemed really nice and capable of getting the style I wanted. Unfortunately she cut more than I asked for. I asked for 2 inches and it ended up being more. My hair went down to my belly button and now it's right at the bottom of my breasts. She got the style right but seeing the length makes me pretty sad. She kept insisting on getting layers when I told her I'd prefer not to because Trish said the cut I want doesn't need layers. The whole time it felt like I had to compromise with her. I know she meant well but she also kept being persistent about getting my hair colored with her which got a little uncomfortable. Overall, I'll continue to go to Ceci's but I'll definitely book with only Trish! It $45 for a women's cut and comes with wash. read more

I really liked the service here. The hair dresser who helped me was very attentive but not too gossipy. And when she was done, my hair had never looked better! I was so happy. I really was dissatisfied with the color of my hair, but Ceci knew what would spruce it up. 10/10 recommend. The styling was on point too. I mean, there was nothing to complain; I went into the store with a hairstyle that was getting tiring, and when I came back out, my head felt so much lighter and freer. I would give no stars or negative stars if I allowed to do so. I made an appointment with Richie for a single haircut. My appointment is 5:30 in the afternoon, and I got there at 5:15. He was working on another customer and asked me to come back at 5:40, fine, that's ok; Then when I got back at 5:40, Richie was not done with the first one still, I had to wait more and when he started, he rushed between us. Finally, the first customer left, and a gentleman came in the middle of my cut. I was shocked when he asked a lady to dry my hair and he started to work on that gentlemen (probably only 10 minutes after he arrived). I asked the lady" we done?", and she told me yes. Excuse me? That was not the worst part yet. I showed a picture to Richie when I came in, and told him I want the similar layers, but what he did was just like cutting a straight line at the end of your hair. I would say when I cut my little daughter's hair at home, she got the same look, or even better, at least there were some short hairs in the front, there were layers! I insisted him doing some changes in the front, he did but at the same time he blamed me about I don't have a big hair volume so he cannot do the layers. Excuse me? I do layers all the times, and not long ago I was told by another barber in a different salon that it took more time to dry my hair because I had a big volume. I felt like Richie was rushing to get rid of me, so he simply did some cuts quickly and even let lots of hair fell on my face and my mask, first time ever! I felt super regret to go back there again. To be honest, my last experience with Richie was not good either, he left lots of long strands and I had to fix it by myself. But he had good reviews in yelp and I decided to give him another chance, unfortunately it only proved I am a fool. First off... THEY BURNT OFF A HUGE CHUNK OF MY HAIR! I would recommend the magic straight/ japanese straight perm to any girls with the same problem, but this is the FIRST time that my hair was literally burnt crisp off my head T__T It's not a matter of there being a new or inexperienced stylist. The first person to work on my hair was the daughter of the owner of the salon, and then they switched to the owner of the salon. I mean, I wasn't bald... I got the straight perm during the summer (June) but didn't realize that a portion of my hair basically got a buzz cut because I had enough hair to cover it. But it's on the top of the back of my head, and now that it's growing back, it's sticking through my hair and parting it weirdly in the back so that the patch shows up! I cannot explain how horrible it looked during the summer, or how self conscious it made me. I always have to wear it half up and make a bump so that you can't see it. It's not as bad anymore, but its still pretty bad and I still can't wear my hair down because it short hair makes the rest of my hair part in the back and makes it really obvious. Seriously makes me sooooooo maaaaaadddd to know that I have a roughly a 2inch by 1inch patch of hair that's only as long as my index finger on the top of my head. It's going to take forever for that patch to return to normal because my hair grows really slowly. (It took roughly 3 1/2 years for my hair to grow 6 inches). I can't wear my hair as I'd like and I can't leave it down (which is the whole point of getting your hair straightened) because I'm always paranoid about my super short hair. So think about it this way... are you willing to pay $50/month (or $1.50/day) to skip the daily hour regiment of straightening your hair? Salons that use really good quality chemicals will let you wash your hair the next day. The more harmful a chemical is, the more it will smell/sting. Though they are more "powerful" it really takes an experienced stylist to know how long to keep it in your hair for. At first I thought this place was pretty good but NOPE. I'll start from the beginning. My hair grows so fast and I trim it myself. When it gets too long I cut it short. It was that time again as my hair was very long (although not long enough to donate) and I wanted it cut to above my shoulders. I hadn't been to this salon but it had pretty good reviews so I called in on a Saturday. They said they were too busy for a walk in and the earliest appointment was Sunday 11am. Sunday I came in at 10:40am hoping they could squeeze me in sooner and when I walked in it was empty. So yes, they took me in early and I was happy. No one else ever walked in until I was leaving. The lady, Unis (spelling? Sounded like "unison" without the on) was very sweet. She washed my hair but when she dried it she squeezed the towel so hard I thought all my hair would rip out. I have very fragile hair that is thinning so I was annoyed of this. I let it go because she was so nice. She cut my hair and saved some for herself, she said she was going to experiment on it with color... anyway, she was taking her time to cut my hair which I appreciated. When she thought she was done she blow dried it then went back a second time to make corrections. Afterwards she started styling it and giving me tips for curling. I told her I almost always wear my hair straight but she puffed it up and curled it. I was fine with that since she was so nice but really it wasn't my style. I thanked her and tipped her well then went home. I didn't like how puffy she styled it because it looked old fashioned like a 50s hair style so once I got home straightened it before my husband could get a good look. That's when I started noticing all the long strands of hair that she missed! I have NEVER had such a BAD haircut! See my pictures attached. I hope I can post the video too. They are from two different days because I kept finding more hairs that were way too long. About over an inch too long! How embarrassing to look like I gave myself a sloppy haircut. Have to start with I have fine thin hair. Walked in asked if they could perm for body beachy wave. I was offered an appt. The girl doing my hair was so afraid or cautious I made me uncomfortable.. she even said don't cry when I cut the layers. WTF ? She didn't use the full solution before rolling stating it would frizz or damage my hair. It came out basically kinky but fuller so I was thinking this could work. I went to bed and woke up with basically straight straw lime hair... very disappointed.. 2 stars because I choice to see it as she played it safe.. could of burned all the hair off my head. Richie is an amazing colorist! During COVID lockdown I messed up my hair pretty bad on DIY home coloring kit. After 2 visits he fixed my hair completely to the color that I originally had in mind. My daughter just returned from getting japanese straightening and a hair cut. Actually a good deal for $150 and a better deal because it was her own money .. ha! Anyway, when she returned home she was very happy with the straightening but not so happy with the cut. Apparently the stylist did not speak English and, although my daughter told the translator that she did NOT want the front cut shorter (an align style) the stylist kept cutting until apparently my daughter grabbed her own hair and said NO. As others stated I was kinda scared to come to this salon as I had never heard of it before and I found multiple ads under the 'beauty section' of Craigslist. However, I really really really wanted to get the Japanese thermal straightening and they do it the cheapest in all of San Diego (trust me, I made a ton of phone calls.) I visited the salon yesterday after some hesitation about the pricing and constant craigslist ads. I read the reviews on Yelp and decided to give it a go. I called and I was able to make a same day appt. I arrived and it was pleasant. Only one woman spoke english and she translated for me. I wanted a haircut (trim) and partial hi lights. She managed to get me to change my mind and go with full hi lights. The trim came first and I love it. While getting my hi lights both women worked on me in succession. Then came the clincher. One removed a piece of foil to reveal bleached hair. I'm a brunette so you can imagine my dismay. They immediately started to remove all the foil from around my head while speaking very fast. No one said a word to me. They acted as if nothing was going on. While resting with my hair in the sink a toner was added. It did nothing. I was then taken to the chair for my blow dry. Johann comes over and actually says "your color looks nice" to which I reply "no it does not" She agrees to put a darker toner in so I don't look like a striped tiger walking out of there. Now my hair is brown and orange. I'm at a loss. I leave and Johann tells me they'll try better next time. There won't be a next time. For my hair which is waist long, they charged $380 which is pretty reasonable and totally worth a year of not blow drying and straightening (girls know what I'm talking about!). Today is Sunday and after lunch, my family and I spontaneously decided to check out CeCi's since we were close by and have been meaning to make an appointment. Little did I know, our timing was perfect, since Michelle was just finishing up with a customer and had time and room for us walk-ins. :) It was my first time at CeCi's and I was in dire need of a Japanese hair straightening perm. I've lived in Japan for a few years in the past and loved how they straightened my hair over there. Since moving here 6 years ago, I've never found a salon that can straighten my asian hair the way I like it-- silky straight, shiny, smooth and permanent. I've had my hair straightened at the malls and some random hole-in-the wall salons in the past, and even though they claimed it was the same as the Japanese straight perms, they lied. My hair never stayed smooth and silky straight for more than a month. And no, I wasn't getting Brazillian Blowouts or any other type of "straightening" done. I specifically always ask for Japanese straight perms. Now back to CeCi's. :) My hair is waist length, slightly wavy, full of dried split ends and I needed a good trim and straightening. I got the Yuko japanese straight perm and it was actually the most expensive perm they had. For my hair, it cost about $320 total, but it was totally worth it! The Yuko straight perm actually repairs any previous damage your hair does from the inside out and your hair will feel so slippery/smooth, you won't regret it! Michelle did an AMAZING job on straightening my hair; she was gentle and quick, but you can tell she knew exactly what she was doing and paid attention to every little strand. Rich cut and trimmed me and my son's hair and his haircutting techniques were very artistic and professional. Both he and Michelle were very kind, friendly, soft spoken and understand exactly what you want. I was very comfortable trusting them to fix my dried out, frizzy hair. Another woman named Kimmy works there too, but she didn't do much to my hair, except help wash my hair when Michelle had to do something else real quick. Nonetheless, Kimmy was very friendly and personable as well. All three of them were very easy to talk to and they make it feel like you're talking to good friends. :) The whole experience was excellent and completely exceeded my expectations, including how amazing my hair looked when I left! My husband was so happy that he found this place for me on Yelp, even though I was hesitant on the price. Just look at the before and after pictures in the album! It's no joke, the straight perms are on point! It was definitely worth every dollar. In fact, I'm coming back in 2 weeks to get highlights in my hair and I can't wait! :) It was the best experience I've ever had at a salon! After not having a go-to stylist for a few years, I've finally found 'the one' at Ceci's. Michelle is beyond amazing and is the Jedi Master of hair straightening. Let me start off by saying that although I use yelp on almost a daily basis, I have never left a yelp review. However, ceci salon exceeded my expectations!!! I just moved to SD months ago and was very nervous about finding a salon that does Japanese Straightening. I've been getting my hair Japanese Straightened for 11 years (1-2x a year) and within those 11 years, I've move to 4 different states- so being able to find a decent to great salon is always hard to come by. Let's just say that I've had my share of bad to really good experiences. I am SO VERY pleased and ecstatic about the outcome!!!! This is,by far, the BEST place I have ever been to for a JS!!!!! Not only are their prices very reasonable, the amount of care and detail that went into the process was impeccable. From start to finish, I was impressed by their efficiency and attention to detail. Three stylists worked on me, but the owner was the one who worked on me the most. All of the stylists were incredibly nice and you could tell that they have a lot of experience under their belt. When I usually get JS, I typically get a very little section of damaged hair (very minimal...like 50 strands) in the front where I flat iron my hair on a daily basis. Well, the same portion of hair was damaged this time around (which I expected). Salons usually ignore the damaged/frizzy portion and send me on my way. Well....NOT this time. Joanna (owner) immediately recognized it and remedied the frizz by putting keratin on it. She made sure that every single strand of hair was straightened before I left! She mentioned to me that there was a little bit of damage, but quickly apologized and said she never let's a client leave unless she's able to fix it. I also got a trim after the JS and was impressed by it was well! I am very picky about how my hair is cut and the stylist exceeded my expectations and gave me EXACTLY what I wanted. I had a great time there. It was my first time ever going to a salon. I felt welcomed when I came in for my appointment. Everyone was friendly especially my hair stylist, she was so nice and sweet. The heat systems they have are out of this world, it's imported from Korea and looks like something from the future. Don't get me wrong about the hair cutting, it works, but I'm impressed by her styling work. However, the communication barrier kind of hard to enjoy getting my haircut here, but that's just me. She's very meticulous and doesn't really give off that incompetence-vibe you can get at SuperCuts. She did well with my hair, but it was just not a place where the person handling my hair and I can connect for a great haircut.
