Our friends said let's get together on Saturday. Want to go to dinner? Nah, let's hang out at the beach. Hang out? Now I live by west meadow beach in Stony Brook. There are a lot of rules! No dogs, keep the noise down and be courteous of the plantings. Cedar Beach has a much more pleasant vibe. There's a live band playing and you can bring a cooler with no hassle from the local police. We have a Brookhaven virtual summer pass and cedar beach is a town beach. There's a Veteran discount on the pass, high five Brookhaven! There's a reason why the next town is "Rocky Point". The beaches on the north shore are so rocky! The beaches on the south shore are powered sand, this is a south shore thing that I always like to point out. (My beach growing up was Smiths Point) The band is playing CCR, we're drinking cold beers and having a good time at Cedar Beach. The sun is setting and now we're getting up to dance? It is difficult to review Cedar Beach, because essentially it is reviewing the Long Island Sound, which is vintage Long Island. This viewpoint is from the eyes of a person who's Dad is a Town of Brookhaven resident. The thing to take into account when reviewing Cedar Beach is that it is a Brookhaven Township amenity where admission is very reasonable for it's residents. On the contrary, for the residents residing outside of Brookhaven, their price to enjoy access to the Long Island Sound could seem to compete with Six Flags Great Adventure prices. The Town of Brookhaven, NY website displays the prices. Whether you are a Town of Brookhaven or non-resident the days of paying at the admission gate appear to be a memory. I'm not a fan of the parking meters because they can be an annoyance for Cedar Beach guests at the same time that they do not provide the safety measure that a controlled access gate does in maintaining a sense of safety.     Cedar Beach is one of a few Town of Brookhaven Long Island Sound beachfront parks. The other one that I am familiar with is West Meadow Beach. Cedar Beach is situated on a peninsula in a scenic location that starts off with a drive along bucolic and windy Pipe Stave Hollow Road that gives a nod to the East End with its bordering woodlands, estates on rolling forested hills, and the picturesque Mount Sinai Harbor that brings images of the Great Peconic Bay. A left turn onto Harbor Beach Road continues the drive on the peninsula where Mount Sinai Harbor with the boats are to the south and the beachfront, nature trail, concession stand, and amenities are to the north. One advantage of the meter system is that if you want to see the beach scape by vehicle, you can drive to the end of Harbor Beach Road without paying.    The peak season is from Memorial Day to Labor Day. It is my understanding that they provide lifeguards during this busy season. However, it was off-season when I went with my Dad, a Brookhaven resident, to see Cedar Beach. Living in the Las Vegas desert, it just made sense to spend some time by the Long Island Sound when I visited my dad. Please keep in mind that I am no stranger to Cedar Beach. My memories go back to the early 1980s when I was a child that spent time with my dad at Cedar Beach. Not much has changed since President Regan was in office. Cedar Beach is still a very rocky North Shore Beach that is unstable for swimming in barefooted. However, one change that was administered over the years is that dogs are prohibited at Cedar Beach.    My Dad and I visited Cedar Beach in May. Before peak season the beach was very unpopulated. If my dad did not have a Brookhaven pass, the parking meters could care less that the parking lot was relatively empty. Waiting for us were several spaces overlooking a band of white sand fronting a large expanse of Long Island Sound water spread out towards Connecticut. Unlike West Meadow Beach, Cedar Beach provides a prime vista of a beach scape taking in the Connecticut shoreline. On a serene Long Island day the waves were very gentle. With so few people sharing this experience, this was a mellow way to spend some time with my dad. We did go for a short walk on the beach. Being a hiker, of I was alone and had sufficient time, I would of hiked west on the sand that would take me onto the nature trail that would ultimately lead me to the end of the peninsula at the Cedar Beach Fishing Pier Area where Harbor Beach Road ends at a water view overlooking Belle Terre.     I am a fan of Long Island Sound, I am a fan of Cedar Beach. Being that my Dad is a Brookhaven resident, I could see a return visit here when I spend time with my Dad on Long Island. read more

I read that the park had hiking. Maybe we missed it. We walked on a paved walk way. Dogs are not welcome (even on a leash on the beach) so go something else if you have one. read more

Beautiful beach , You can go fishing, sailing, Jet Ski ,Swimming, Live music on weekends, Food a bit pricey but good. Beautiful scenery, This side is the fishing area , the other side is all sand nice and smooth for tanning volley ball etc. Wonderful day with the family. read more

We were to this beach to watch the sun set on a Sunday evening. This was only our second time here in the 20+ years of living in the area. A little disappointing for me and not as nice as West Meadow Beach. Again in my opinion. The advantage to Cedar Beach is a bar and small restaurant, if you want to call it that. Seems like the bar is attracting some undesirable people. My experience... after parking my car I noticed a group of guys just hanging around. After locking my car and starting to head to the beach I noticed one of these clowns walking over to my car very closely and slowing down to peer into the window. If you're looking for something or have a question just ask but don't be surprised if you and I start dancing and just a heads up, I'm not a very good dancer, I'll probably step on you very hard. So back to the beach. A typical north shore beach with a lot of rocks. A lot. The sunset was a little disappointing but that could be the clouds. On our last trip to this beach which was a Saturday afternoon, we sat at the bar and had a couple of drinks. Not shy on pricing and again a crowd that I could do without. I like the option to have a drink or a bite to eat but they should consider the type of people patronizing this place. Cedar Brach it's your choice. read more

Cedar Beach Town Park - Sunset - Parks Near Me - Mount Sinai, New York

Tucked away in Mount Sinai is a jewel of a beach. Granted, the sand isn't nearly as nice as the ocean beaches of Long Island. And there are baseball sized rocks in the water so I suggest wearing water shoes. But the water is always calm and clean and you can swim good distances. On clear days you get a nice view of Connecticut and the sunsets are beautiful. There is always a nice crowd and the bar, Sunsets on the Beach, is open all summer. So you can swim while listening to live music. You could certainly do worse than that. It's not too buggy and overall it's a great late afternoon/sunset place to visit. read more

Sunday evening, I came here with 2 friends just cuz we were bored and wanted somewhere we can walk, relax and enjoy the view. I heard Cedar Beach Town Park had very nice sunsets, so that's also another reason I chose this location. The drive here from Queens was quite long..about 1 hour and change.. Along the way, we noticed there were many small local farmers markets, that were already selling pumpkin pies, and other seasonal treats! As we entered East Setauket, we also made a quick pit stop at SE-Port Deli to get their amazing sandwiches! Once we made the left onto Harbor Beach Road, it was quite beautiful.. Tranquil water views on both sides.. On the right was the beach and shoreline and on the left was a Yacht club. I had checked the time for the sunset earlier that day, and it was about 6:53pm..And we made good time, arriving about half hour early and left enough time to walk around, let the ladies have their photo shoot on the beach and we made our way to the western-most tip of the shore to watch the sunset. Weather was nice and cool, slightly windy, but overall, very nice conditions. A great experience with my friends! :) read more

Cedar Beach is such a beautiful place to come to during the summer. It's clean, adequately maintained, and it is not too packed compared to Jones Beach or Point Lookout. This is also a great place to walk by or ride your scooter through. I had so much fun coming here, and my dogs even like running through here as well. The locals are very nice and I recommend staying to watch the sunset! read more

Before Superapocalyptamegastorm Sandy, Cedar Beach was your standard north shore beach: rocks, rocks, pebbles, rocks, seagulls, and the occasional dead crab washed ashore; not good for shelling. There was a nature center complete with two outdoor touch pools filled with flora and fauna native to the sound (sea robins, flounder, crabs, various shell fish), and the beach had an average slope down towards the water. After Sandy, everything changed, the most marked difference for us (aside from the closed nature center, which like the rest of the park, was inundated by the storm) is how the shape of the beach was altered. There's now a channel cut through the middle of the beach, parallel to the shore, that is filled with soft, walkable sand. And the beach flattened a bit, making high tides seem higher than before. It's very pretty. As far as amenities go, there are two comfort stations, a fishing pier, small watercraft marina, and a beach bar that seems to attract everyone in the area from families in Civics to the local Harley Davidson community. The parking is free after 5pm and there are often fairs and fests held in the main parking lot in the summer. And, no, post-storm it's still not a good place for shelling. read more

This is your typical north shore beach. - It is rocky and mixed with sand. - nice long beach to take a walk - there is also a fishing pier( I caught many fish here when the time and tide is right) - town beach for local residence or Town of Brookhaven - arrive before 7am and you can still get in. Still a great local beach for tanning light dip. Bring some swim shoes because the rocks will get you. read more

Local town beach, that's kept clean and provides a play ground and basketball court, as well as a Nature Preserve. There is a marina too. And with all that- there's not a lot of traffic or too many people! The water is clear (Nature doing her part!), and there's a Lifeguard overseeing the area. Sadly, no pets are allowed- I wish there was a section or special times they would allow them. If you have a Residence Sticker you're in Free- not sure of the price otherwise. Residence Stickers w/proper ID can be purchased by the cashier in the booth when you enter. read more

I love Cedar Beach. I've been going there for years. It's never crowded & when people do come they don't normally camp right down next to you, like they do at some beaches. It's clean & I like swimming there because the water is very calm & I'm afraid of waves. I really love everything about it. It is very rocky so you have to wear water shoes to walk on the sand & to go into the water. Other than that, I would have to say it's the perfect beach. I travel 45 mins. to get there but to me, it's definitely worth it!! It's also very cheap to get a seasonal sticker if you're a Brookhaven resident. That's another difference between it & a lot of other beaches. They cost a fortune to get into. read more

This is the best beach in the history of beaches. It is beautiful, it's clean, and there is a lit to explore. I bring my paddle board and kayak out there every weekend and I can just explore around the harbor and enjoy the fact that I live on an island. It's also a beautiful park! It is great for long walks and hikes and there is island and marshes that I can paddle thru. This is by far my absolute favorite beach! read more

A Super North Shore Beach. Walking trails with fragrant roses are a great change from the sand. A very peaceful place to walk; also, access doesn't require as many winding roads like Long Beach in Nissequogue. read more

Have gone to Cedar Beach alot this summer. They finally opened up the pavillion that offers fresh seafood and an outdoor bar that either has a live band or DJ almost nightly. It was about time they did something like this And to top it all off the crowd is not just young 21 year olds but mature adults between 40 - 55 give or take a year or two. . read more

This review is for the Cedar Beach Bar & Grille in Mount Sinai Long Island. They now have a real Bar with alcoholic drinks and tap beer, right on the beach. It is beautiful and it's about time! The service was a little disorganized but very friendly. The view and atmosphere is like being on vacation. It compares to anywhere we have been around the country as far as that goes. I can't wait to check out a sunset there. The menu is limited so there is definitely room for improvement there. We had cheeseburgers with duck bacon and they were delicious. We paired it with Montauk summer ales which was perfect for the first full day of summer. The sweet potato fries were also very good. All in all I would recommend this place for an ice cold beverage (Impressive beer selection) with fantastic views. The Food menu was very beach bar casual but I see the online menu shows many more selections. I am not sure when the online menu is offered. It is a unique place on the north shore for sure.
