My favorite beach on the Island! Nicole and I frequent here every spring and summer. Sometimes you will catch us longboarding the mile-long path or chilling down the beach watching the sunset. The sunsets here always feel different and are always beautiful. There are fairly nice bathrooms and an outdoor shower to rinse off the salt water. The beach has a wide variety of activities you can enjoy. There's a playground for you to bring your kids, and a long path if you want to go on a walk. There are also environmental reserves and you can bird watch in the morning. This place will always hold a strong memory in my heart. 10 dollars per hour parking in Wes Meadow Beach in the town of Crookhaven, if you park and leave your car to get your parking pass that costs $10 an hour a meter maid will run up to your car and give you an $80 ticket. Beach is full of large rocks, no soft sand. I don't recommend this awful place, across the water you see three smoke stacks from a large industrial factory. Not safe to swim there. read more

Beautiful spot to see the sunset!! I've been coming here for years now and it's honestly amazing. They have playgrounds for the kids if they want to hangout while you walk up and down the path. It's like a mini boardwalk but not very long. They have a sit down area under a gazebo where there is a bunch of picnic benches!! I went here as a friend recommended that I go because I told him that I was interested in creating a project which required tiny pebbles and beach glass. I went on a extremely cold and windy day and only found one piece of white sea glass, probably due to the intense amount of tears running down my face causing double blurry vision. However, you can practically put your hand down anywhere and pick up a bunch of pebbles! There was plenty of Parking and the beach was really clean despite the crazy amount of dead fish on the beach. It was probally just that time of year I highly doubt it has anything to do with water conditions. Beautiful view of the Long Island sound as well. You can probably take a pretty epic picture of the sunset as it descends below the kings park bluff area! There were dead fish all over the place I'm guessing it was just that time of year. I adore this spot. A recent ROTD from Taylor (you go new yelp girl) reminded me of the few times I've been here. I'm a south shore dude and despite being the avid explore I am, I have unfortunately not discovered all the great north shore spots; when someone brings me to a new one, it's sort of like an awesome little adventure. This beach is great and quite beautiful; it's clean, calm, easy to lose track of time on... it's exactly what you look for on a north shore beach. If yer a shell person, this is a great beach to find a long standing fave; (I'll look up the correct term but to me they are "the spirally ones") there are tons of tiny 'gastropod' shells if you look long n hard, and close enough. I do indeed still enjoy these the most. If only I could find a use for them. Anywho If you're looking for a nice new spot, I'd definitely check this beach out. read more

This is a neighborhood gem. Save the cottages? Get the heck out you suckas! Now, West Meadow Beach is for everyone when they ripped down most of the 75 year old eye sore cottages. The town planted new trees and grass where the cottages were and now there is a long walking path by the water. My family walked here almost every night during the summer. Its such a peaceful area, I'm glad they used this space for everyone to enjoy. read more

I have lived in this area for over 20 yrs and have never been to this beach until last evening. A very pleasant surprise. Some friends are moving away so a bunch of us gathered there for a farewell get together. Back to the beach... a typical north shore beach with rocks, rocks, and more rocks. There are a couple of covered areas, which we had, that have picnic tables. A nice feature. Unfortunately no restaurant or bar. Oh well, but plenty of rocks. The highlight is the sunsets. Just beautiful. There are a number of benches along the rear of the sand which you can sit on to watch the sunsets. FABULOUS!! So sad that we missed this for 20 years. No one to blame but myself, but I've corrected this error and will be back. A couple of things... parking was very easy but it was after 5 so I can't speak for earlier in the day. I understand that you have to pay before 5, or have a town pass/sticker. Did I mention the Sunsets? Just beautiful. I wanted to take a pictures to post but my phones battery was sucked dry. I guess the sun needed a little extra energy. So all in all this is a great find for me and I will definitely be back as a regular, for the sunsets. You can find me sitting on one of those benches with my love. Here's my personal disclaimer: Oh did I mention that this beach is only for Three Village Residents? That means that only a very few of us can go there, so don't bother to try and find it. You won't like it anyway because there are so many rocks, and they probably won't let you in. Parking is very expensive and difficult, and I'm pretty sure I saw about a dozen great white sharks in the water, along with "Men of War" . So stay away especially after 5 PM. Beautiful little local beach with plenty of amenities. Like most people have mentioned its mostly rocky so definitely recommend some shoes or sandals. The rocks and pebbles are quite beautiful though and its a nice change compare to the finer sandy south shore beaches. Since its facing westward the main attraction is the gorgeous sunset. Pretty close to SBU but unlike the bigger north shore beaches like Sunken Meadows this is connected only to local roads so bit of a drive if you're not in the area. Its too bad I didn't get to witness the amazing sunset on my previous visit here but plenty to do here for like a couple hours or so if you just want to enjoy some good sunny weather. Parking is $20 for non-Brookhaven residents which compare to some other local beaches isn't too outrageous. It looks like they stop charging after Labor Day most likely as I went in early Fall and no one was manning the booth. The playgrounds for the kids are quite nice and it seems the amenities are quite well maintained. read more

I love this beach. It's what the north shore is all about. If you're from the Jersey Shore and you're gonna complain about the rocks, YA AIN'T WELCOME HERE. Tons of people gather to swim and lay out in the sun in the summer. The kids seem to love it, although the last time I got in the water I thought it smelled a little funky. There's seaweed and seagulls and rocks and the most beautiful sunsets in the evening. The ice cream man will come within the hour of sunset and make everything perfect. read more

North shore beaches and I have a love-hate relationship. The rocky earth along the shore is what you have to deal with in order to watch a spectacular sunset (usually). I came here after hours to enjoy a sunset and hang out. If you come here late enough you don't have to pay to get in. West Meadow beach is typically a family beach with a small shore front and plenty of parking spaces. When I came around 7, there weren't many people left. Be prepared, north shore beaches are super rocky! I typically don't gravitate towards these beaches (too many rocks) but I'll always come here for a stellar sunset. read more

Empty private beach and close to Stony Brook University. Lots of rocks but a really peaceful beach. The sunset here is beautiful. I can't really compare this beach to any other. It's just a nice place to get away from campus and to clear your mind during stressful times. There really isn't a lot of people here. I think only some of the neighborhood locals come here, thats about it. I barely see any college or highschool students here for that matter. Usually see older people who bring out their grandchildren. Bring a sandwich, a 6 pack of beer, watch the sunset and your mind will be at ease. read more

Gorgeous Beach. My favorite part is that is great for kids !!! Just make sure you bring shoes of any kind, there is rocks before you get to the shore and they are killers, besides that,...is a dream. The water is clean the beach becomes low tide from 12:00 noon to 2:00pm, so is perfect for the kids they can play in the middle of the ocean literally . My one year old loved it. I can say that this time I spend a good amount of time in the water, not like NY beaches your running from the waves. Lolz, There's no loud music, quite, family oriented and is not pack. This tranquil beach is located almost opposite of Sunken Meadow. The beaches are similar but West Meadow is much more peaceful and less crowded. The land is flat and mostly litter-free. Nearby marshland aka 'nature's kidneys' attracts adorable flocks of piping plovers and many other birds. The shore is mostly stony but there's real sand (as opposed to clay-like mud) in the water, just beware of the few skin-scratching/cutting jagged rocks. From what I've gathered, Brookhaven residents didn't have to pay for entrance until May 2012; now a $5 daily fee or season vehicle pass ($25 for two years) is mandatory. The $20 daily parking fee continues for non-residents. See photo of sign for fee details. Considering that many of the residents already pay high taxes, they fought the new law but unfortunately lost. read more

Village of Old Field town of BROOKHAVEN park. Very happy as a Brookhaven resident to have access to this lovely beach and nature preserve. After the cottages were knocked down, they turned the road into a pedestrian/ bike walkway. A beautiful place to go for a nature hike/ stroll. The road is nicely buffered from the windy beachfront by low sand dunes and scrub bushes. My new favorite place for a hike. read more

I love this beach as it is only 10 minutes away from me. Beautiful scenery, extremely humorous Seagulls, and an ice cream truck always available. LOL. Only $5 for daily access. Season pass is $25. 4 stars because I always have a hard time with the painful rocks & sticks in the sand near the shore. I usually wear my shoes to the shore then take them off before I get into the water. Bathrooms are pretty clean. Lifeguards on duty until about 5-6pm. Love this beach!! They created a nicely paved area that goes between wooded areas along the beach with great views and nice birding. And they closed that paved road to car traffic; it's only for foot traffic and bikes. The road ends at a beach with great views of the bay; a round trip walk of about two miles. The reason it doesn't get five stars from me is that it is a Town beach and the fees for non-residents during the season are substantial. So I only go on the off-season. I would give this place 4 stars if I wasn't so spoiled with the fine sand beaches of southern Jersey. I had a painful time walking bare-foot on the pebbles to get into the water but the water was pretty clear and kind of refreshing on my legs. We came after 6pm (not sure what time it becomes free but we didn't have to pay) but I didn't really come to swim this time. We brought food and ate on the concrete tables and wooden seats. The place is not big but there are a couple playgrounds, some sprinklers, and the sunset is beautiful here but I'm more of a hands-on guy instead of an enjoy-the-scenery. It wasn't crowded at all and only a couple of little kids were swimming so it looks like most came here for something else (taking photos, playground, volleyball, tranquility, etc.). read more

This beach wins me over with its tranquility! I'm surprise there weren't a lot of Stony Brook University kids here. It was only a 15 minute drive from the college area. Bring a book or a textbook - It's pretty quiet there compared to Coney Island. Pack a blanket, a picnic basket, and a cooler and it'll make for a perfect day away from the city. Bring a kite, money for the ice cream truck, a magnifying glass to search for pretty rocks by the water. Public toilets and parking is available on site. read more

West Meadow Beach - there is only one thing I can complain about here, okay, so perhaps millions of little things -- rocks, rocks rocks. But this is normal for North Shore Beaches in the area. If your tootsies are sensitive, I highly recommend water shoes to get you from the blanket to the shore. Works every time! Growing up on Long Island's South Shore,where the beaches are sandy and smooth, it was quite a shock the first time I saw the endless little rocks and pebbles that provide total coverage for the sand here. That was many moons ago and it did not prevent me from raising my family nearby. Aside from the fact that it's North Shore rocky, this is a wonderful beach for families, teens and adults. There is a nice playground area with water sprinklers , as well as a cordoned off swimming area with lifeguards to help watch over everyone. And the water is fairly clean, too! In the evening, you will find the most delightful of sunsets and the gathering of folks of all ages, for what has become a daily ritual. read more

Right now it's deserted and an amazing walk. Don't comb here with a South Shore mentality; this ain't no swimmin hole, it's a strolling strand. Walking all the way down to the (big whoop) NRHP house along the beach one or both ways on the beach is a really energizing path. The paved Trustees Road goes through the woods and is a nice break from the sand. Go before or after work to refresh or at odd hours; less people and kids, yay! read more

Peaceful place to relax with the grandkids. Well-equipped playground, and safe rocky beach good for wading and swimming. Walk or bike to the end on the beach road, and enjoy the views of marshland, SB Yacht Club, and one or two still maintained examples of the "cottages" which for a generation had been privately owned by Brookhaven citizens. At the end, good view of fishing boats entering and leaving SB harbor. We often go early in the morning with coffee, bagel, set up chairs on the beach and read the NYT. Tables for games or lunch, some under a shelter. When windy or stormy, great for wind surfing. In the summer, park ranger living in one of the cottages conducts nature tours and leads explorations for school children. Well managed and maintained, Brookhaven sticker required summer weekends. Off season frequently serviced portable "johns"; during the summer the rest rooms are clean, well-ventilated, and safe. read more
