I went golfing here a few days ago. A ranger approached us on the 16th hole and admonished us for allegedly driving the cart in the restricted area. He spoke to my friend and I like we were 5 years old. Although we were sure we only drove the cart where it was permitted, we apologized and assured him it was unintentional. He continued to be rude and demeaning. After he rode away we backtracked to check the signage and we did NOT enter the restricted area. I was so upset and flustered we didn't finish the final few holes and left. I did tell a very kind gentleman (Dave) in the clubhouse what happened. He offered to refund my money which I declined. The way we were treated was unwarranted even if we had made a mistake, which we did not. I doubt I will be returning to this course to play again. Nor will I pay for lessons here which I had done previously. There are many other courses that have employees that treat their customers with respect. Hopefully this is just one bad apple but unfortunately one is sometimes more than enough. read more

Great course that I grew up on! Loved being back and playing. Bob Beach is still there! Bob made golf welcoming and fun, to us neighborhood kids, in the 70s! Thank you Bob! Still woods and water but great price and very scenic. Walked the course and enjoyed the sunset. Will be back. read more

Braintree Municipal Golf Course - Rock Pond in Braintree Golf Course - Golf Near Me - Braintree, Massachusetts

Terrible check in, very slow bar staff. Stood in line for 15 minutes just to check in and pay. Then on the course on a Sunday there was a group of 9-10 year olds running around, hitting into players, jumping around different holes cutting in font of other groups, being very loud, screaming and laughing while other golfers were trying to tee off. No ranger anywhere, just total chaos. People are paying $70 to have unsupervised children running around acting crazy. Course in decent shape but ver, very wet a day after some rain. The overall experience was bad. read more

The absolute worst course on the south shore. Starts in the club house when you show up with the lack of communication and care for others and is clearly visible. The Starter verbally attacked my foursome for taking 3 carts instead of 2 which could of easily been resolved by simply asking, and not in such a demanding way. Used to like it here never will play or support a "business" like that. Try and remember we are the ones paying you and we're all people too. 0/10 read more

I have played quite a few of the golf courses around MA. I prefer to go out and experience different courses instead of staying a member at one. This course however, you would never be able to pay me to become a member. The course layout itself is very nice and it's a welcoming 18 holes that are somewhat challenging with woods/water on both sides of you for a majority of the course. The lady who greeted our 10:27 tee time when we checked in at 10:26 (I know on time is late) started by muttering "oh boy, oh boy, oh boy" and proceeding to tell us we might not get out there even though the group after us has yet to arrive. The starter was incompetent and allowed a group to tee up behind us while we were still halfway on the fairway. Their tee off shot actually went past out golf cart. The rangers on the course must be some ex high-school heros or failed police academy rejects. We were watched from hole 2/3/4/5 and reminded at each hole that they expect us to get 18 done in 4:20 (we were on pace). I also was rocking a pretty nasty hangover and was pounding down the coconut water which the ranger questioned me on and asked if I was "drinking pina coladas" and it wasn't allowed. Anyways, he followed us for 4/5 holes then must have radio'd up to Tough Guy #2 who inspected our carts when we were on the putting green of hole 8. He found a beer that wasn't bought at the course and confiscated it (whatevs, no biggie...got more where that came from). It was his inspection of the golf cart that was out of line. We're crossing 9's and get a bite to eat which probably slows us down by 10 minutes but hey, the girls in the hotdog booth were the only pleasant people we ran into for the entire day. On hole 12 we get reminded once again that there's a pace of play and we're behind by 10 minutes. Needless to say, we played 12 holes, got food, were in a 4-some and were only behind by 10 minutes. This place is the worst. Take more time into watering your fairways and less time being our shadow. Also, read the recent reviews. Sounds like we haven't been the first it's happened to. read more

The course itself is okay, maybe a little expensive for what it is but okay. They have unusual rules that have made my first time there my last. No rain checks unless there is lightning. When I played it was raining hard with no signs of stopping, but couldn't get a rain check because there was no lightning. Felt like they were stealing money from me. They also are very strict with drinking. Didn't have any cart-person selling and in the clubhouse they only allow 2 drinks per person, so have to bring up others if you want to get a 6-pack for the group. The food was also average and the TVs were running infomercials instead of the pga event that was on. Too many other courses to be wasting time here, but I'm sure people have had better experiences. read more

I have been playing golf in the Boston area for almost 18 years and I hadn't heard of this course until two weeks ago. I'm glad I know about it now! We went out on Saturday afternoon for a very affordable $46 and played in a not so terrible 4 1/2 hours (even though it's the middle of October, it was still a sunny, Saturday afternoon so what can you expect?). The course was in fantastic shape, the fairways were well taken care of, the grass was green everywhere, and the greens were awesome. They held very well when hitting wedges in, but they rolled quick and true when putting. It wasn't a bad day for someone who had never played there before, only once was there a pond we couldn't see off the tee (on the second hole), but it could consistently be a challenge for repeat players. The only problem I have with this course is the lack of alcohol. As my friend said "if you have a deck, you should be required to have beer". I agreed, adding "if have a golf course you should be required to have beer". For that to be my only complaint, this course definitely impressed me! I am definitely looking forward to coming back and improving on my not so pretty round. read more

Course gets waterlogged every time it rains and somehow manages to also be burnt at the same time. The staff are also brutal. I had once scheduled 3 foursomes mid week for a fantasy football draft day. The ranger followed us around the entire time and forced us to hand over some beers that he saw us respectfully enjoying mid way through the round. I despise this place and will never go back despite the close proximity to where I live. read more

Keeping in mind this is a muni, not a private club, BMGC is a great deal. The course is challenging but manageable, very walkable. It is kept in very good condition, although it does deal with occasional flooding in some areas of certain holes. It gets A LOT of use over the season and can show some wear and tear, but they do a good job of trying to keep up with it. As a side note; they have some of the most attractive cart girls and snack shed attendants you'll find at any course anywhere! read more

Our foursome saw the negative reviews on here regarding staff and said "naw, it can't really be that bad." Trust me- its that bad. The pro-shop guys and the starter weren't charmers, but they were a delight compared to the ranger, who harassed every group in sight. One particularly memorable incident occured when he angrily rolled up to us as we made our way down the fairway with the group in front of us still on the green. "YOU GOTTA PICK UP THE PACE, YOU SHOULD BE HITTING ON TO THE GREEN BY NOW." We just stared incredulously- if we got any closer we'd be taking off heads. Not only that, but as an added bonus our round featured a unique hazard- at almost every hole we had giant lawnmowers criss-crossing the course in front of us. One leaf-blowing machine was good enough to sweep my ball off of the fairway and onto the rough. It's a shame, because the course is nice and generally pretty well maintained- but the staff really killed the experience. Worst golf experience I've had in the Boston area so far. There are plenty of other courses to pick from minutes away- just go elsewhere. read more

A favorite course of mine! A challenging and beautifully maintained 18-hole golf course with large fairways and very nice greens. With rates at $20.00 per person during the week after 4pm how can you not love this course. It's only 25 minutes from downtown and it's easy to find. This course is usually in decent shape, but its run by a bunch of fools. Every time I play here, the tee times are running at least a half hour behind. The rounds usually take 5 to 6 hours because the starter and ranger don't do their job and spend the day drinking instead of making sure people are keeping up the pace of play. Last time I played here, they ran out of golf carts. I've never heard of anything like this happening before and didn't even know this was possible. We were forced to walk the front 9, then offered carts for the back 9. They still made us pay full price for the carts that they only let us use for half the round. Then, on the last few holes, one of the drunk rangers decided he wanted to start yelling at the two groups behind us, telling them to pick up their balls, get off the course and go home. Really strange experience and definitely won't be going back. read more

The course is very well kept and fun to play. Unfortunately the staff is very unwelcoming. They drove around the parking lot beforehand and enforced no beer. The whole round they came around checking out beer cans to see if we were drinking our own. I am the dad of a 5 month old and don't get to play often. This was very disappointing. I was really just looking to get away without taking my Saturday too seriously. There are too many courses in the area to waste your time dealing with this drama. Never again. read more

The course had the most supervisory people I've seen in my life. From hole 1 to 9 I felt like I was a criminal, ranger was up our ass to move along but that's not the best part. We brought about 2 beers each with the intention of maybe a celebratory beer here and then....oh no no, not here. It's a liability, you see, you can drink giant beers at hole 9 and get wrecked but you can't bring a beer or two onto the course. Oh, the course!? Drenched. They were complaining about the drought but watering dead burned fairways while we were trying to play through. They've ruined lakes, no cares at all. But one bud light? LIABILITY! I won't golf here again, go private, become a retirement community. Worst golf since I've started playing. read more

They called a 2 hour frost delay yesterday morning but gave no heads up about it. We arrived to find dozens of golfers standing around waiting to play. Everyone was in the same situation - they showed up for their tee times having received no communication they'd need to wait 2 more hours. We asked at the pro shop and were told there was no mechanism to let people know. Odd considering they had no problem sending reminders for our upcoming tee time. Way to go Braintree. Good job sending the message that it's business first and people second. read more

Wow, what a find this was! My friends and I were looking for a reasonably priced 18 hole course near us in Quincy. We played a few of the others, but Braintree Municipal is unbeatable at the afternoon rate! Its $15 after 4 during the spring months, but only goes up to $20 after 4 for the summer. Those sort of prices would make you think that you were getting a crappy course, but Braintree is in great shape too! For a public course, this is one of the best maintained I've played. The grass is very neatly kept, the bunkers are in great shape, and best of all the layout is actually challenging. You need to hit accurately off the tee here to be in decent shape. The back nine is especially fun to play. Seven out of nine holes have a water hazard of some sort, and the scenery is remarkable. My girlfriend and I were playing lateish one night last year, and there were actually a pair of deer in the middle of the fairway on 16. Not quite what you'd expect for a golf course in Quincy! If you live near by, play this course this year. I believe they'll be opening Mid-April. I personally can't wait! read more

This course is ok but if you're looking for a friendly staff/rangers that make your round fun and relaxing, find somewhere else to golf. Every time I've golfed here I've had some sort of problem with the staff/rangers. (I've heard this from other people too so it's not just me). I've had staff members be rude on the phone and in person when asking them simple questions, and every ranger I've run into on the course is on a massive power trip. It's a decent public golf course we're not playing Augusta. Also you better announce to the course that you're still playing any time you leave your cart because the rangers will come over and take your phones, wallets, and keys out of your cart without telling you and send you running to the parking lot to make sure your cars weren't stolen. But if you're into that sort of thing, the course itself is nice. read more

This is a very well maintained golf course for a really good price. Each hole is relatively flat with few blind shots and the women's tees definitely give you an advantage - one thing most courses don't pay much attention to. Another thing to note is that the greens are very well manicured but they are enormous! So if you aren't a good putter, don't expect a good score. They also have bathrooms and food/beer stands set up throughout the course which is a nice perk. I'll definitely be back. read more

Not a fan. As the other reviewers have said, the price is very good but this course was in horrific shape when I played it and I doubt that I'd go back. Granted, we have had a terribly wet June in Boston, but I played Braintree after a few dry days and it was completely soaked, almost under water. I hit a pitching wedge to the 10th green and it just went right into the ground, had to fish it out with a divot repair tool. I highly doubt that I'll go back. read more

The golf course its self is pretty decent and I enjoy playing it. However, the staff are an absolute nightmare to deal with. Every encounter I have had has been negative, from the phone to the course. Like I said, its a nice course but the staff alone is a reason to avoid playing there again. read more

This course is run by the most disrespectful and atrociously rude staff I have ever experienced. The ranger was drunk driving up to us after 9 telling us we had to get off the course immediately because "the sun would be down in the next 45 minutes". I let him know we only wanted to play one more hole and he started swearing at us to "get the hell off the course". DO NOT play this course, you will be wildly disappointed as to how the staff treats customers; especially the ranger. If I could give this course zero stars if I could. On top of it all its terrible overpriced, $49 for "unlimited play" aka they will force you off after 9 or when the ranger gets drunk enough to not realize where he is. read more

I play Braintree often and find it a great value.... especially off peak. The course is usually in great shape, but it does have some issues with drainage even a few days after big rains. The greens are consistent speed-wise from one hole to the next (usually medium speed approaching fast). There are some similar-looking holes, and I agree that there is not enough variety in the par threes. But the green on the par 3 3rd hole is super-challenging. I wish I were a resident of Braintree so I could be a member. One negative is the guy who works behind the food counter... never seen him smile and it looks like he takes little pride in his offerings. read more

Just had a round here, course was in OK shape.. A few of the greens had drop-zones on them because they were so poorly maintained. The reason for the 1 star is how they treat their golfers. Who goes golfing without beer? Nobody. So imagine my surprise when, even after buying 4 beers from the cart, somebody came around in a cart while we were all on the greens and stopped to peer into our carts... Then drove away. Strange, but ok. The next hole this guy comes over and says he needs to confiscate our beers, they have a zero tolerance policy for people bringing their own. Ok, fine.. Never had a course harass me over 6 beers but ok. When we got to the turn I went into the clubhouse and what do you know, same guy was working the bar. He sees me coming in and rolls his eyes and turns his back to me like he's going to walk into the kitchen. I asked " excuse me, I was wondering if you had s lighter or Box of matches".. He replies, throwing his hands up, annoyed I had bothered him with such a difficult question, "no, I don't have any matches, twhy would we have matches?" Well gee I dunno, it's pretty common for golf courses to sell cigars (I had brought one), I didn't think it was unreasonable to ask. He replies some useless remark that is fitting to what a tool this guy was, so I left. Thankfully the old gentleman at the snack stand had a lighter he let me borrow. Anyway, the course is ok and is run by one of the biggest douchebags I have ever encountered on a golf course. Guess that's what you get with the bargain price. Worst experience I have ever had on a golf course! $50 for 18 holes, except they kick you off the moment the sun starts to set. The Ranger called us pricks for wanting to get a few more in. After we complied we got called stupid, f*cking kids for trying to take our clubs to our cars via our carts. This course is poorly priced and managed atrociously. Course condition is sub par at best. Weathervane is your best bet or your nearest mini golf/putt putt. They are crooks! read more

What can be said about the place I hate to play the game I love... First of all, if I was the mayor of Braintree I would strip Braintree Municipal of their title as a municipal course because the definition of municipal in a nutshell is of or relating to a governing body. Which begs the question, why would you want to be associated with such an establishment? But I digress... I enjoy the game of golf more than anything in the world and as a Braintree resident find myself at this course often. It's never a good time. You're experience begins with a verbal assault in the parking lot from a modern day Gestapo in the form of rude middle aged men in golf carts. My advice, put your balls and tees in your bag before you leave the house because any motion made towards your bag in the parking lot is automatically seen as an attempt to bring in alcohol. Into the 'clubhouse' that is, as a structure, a step or two up from the he-man woman haters club in the little rascals. Once you pay your incredibly high rate for your round that you have showed up on time for it is now time to stand around the first tee box for about fifteen additional minutes while the ranger fumbles around on his ipad in a feeble attempt to get golfers started on their round. The conditions of the course are actually decent, provided it hasn't rained in 72 hours. This course drains slower than Chewbaccas bathtub. You would think for a course that inexplicably has brooks and ravines running dead nuts through the middle of the fairways might drain better but remember, this is Braintree Municipal, where great rounds of golf go to die. Can't complain about the cart girls too much, they are very friendly. All in all, this place is just not a good golf course and the staff is, for the most part, classless. read more

Worst customer service in any golf course on the south shore. It was my fault, I left my wallet in my cart. I called and asked if a wallet was turned in. They said no. I drove 30 minutes back to the course and the gentleman at the desk reiterated it wasn't there. I ask if I can look, I go over to the ranger and ask him and he also said there is no wallet. He said I can look but I won't find anything. I then found my wallet on the 3rd cart in plain view. I was upset because both the man at the desk and the ranger were both playing on their phones, both told me my wallet wasn't their. I found my wallet in 15 seconds and the ranger said it was my fault. I know it was my fault but both men said it wasn't there, and I found it and they treated me like garbage. The best marketing is word of mouth and I will make sure none of my 60 golf friends ever golf at this establishment. Golf course is nice, but customer service is brutally awful read more

Great muni. Very well maintained and reasonably challenging, it's one of my favorite places to play 18 in the Boston area.

This course is fantastic for many reasons the least of which being the price. I think people actually avoid this place because it's priced so low that you think your going to get crappy greens and over crowded holes, THANK GOD! The best thing about this place is that even when it's busy, you never wait to take your next shot. I moved south of the city last summer and found this little gem, and probably played it twice a week for the entire summer and well into the fall and I can't remember having to wait other then the occasional par three back-up. So other then the price and the lack of over booking t-times, the other thing you will notice while walking this course is the over abundance of wild life. I know, it seems like a strange thing to point out but I mean usually a golf course is well manicured and gives the illusion of nature in harmony but its just that an, illusion. This place actually has real wildlife all over the place. I saw a bald eagle just sitting there on a rock, very cool, not sure if they just venture in from the Blue Hills reservations or maybe the tons of water they have around the course, but it truly does add something to the playing experience. Best public course I've played near Boston. It was in excellent condition - good fairways despite the rain and pure greens - and VERY cheap ($42 with cart). I played during the week, so I can't comment on the pace of play at peak times. But I will definitely go back. read more

Awful course covered in goose poop. I went there with my friends today and got stuck behind a group of drunk older men. Management did absolutely nothing to stop them from screaming and making an embarrassing scene at the end of the game. It was truly the most unprofessional golf course I have ever been to- do yourself a favor and go anywhere else! read more

My buddy and I found this course and decided to give it a try. The rates were a bit more than we were expecting (46 for 18 holes) which is the weekend rate despite the fact that we played on Friday. The starter was a very nice guy who gave us a hole by hole description for the first few holes since this was our first time playing the course. We liked the course initially as it had a nice layout and the greens were generous in size and the lines seemed to be very true with a nice roll. As we progressed onto the back 9 we became bored with the course as all of the holes seemed very similar. The course is also mostly flat with similar swampy hazards lining both sides of the fairway. A big beef I had with the course is that all 4 par 3's seemed to play the exact same distance of 170ish yards. I feel that if this course had a bit more variety on the back 9 it could be a great track. Overall, it was a nice course with my favorite part being the awesome greens. read more
