My wife and I recently joined my son and his family for a few days in Williamsburg to celebrate my granddaughter's 7th birthday. We stayed at The Cedars of Williamsburg Bed and Breakfast. This was a terrific choice. We stayed in the John Rolfe room, which was a second-floor room with a king bed. Every room has a private bath, but we found that this room, original to the home, had a slightly larger bath than some of the others. The owner and host at breakfast was a terrific guy with a great sense of humor, broad knowledge, and a wealth of information about what to do and where to eat in the area. The breakfast was very good and each day featured coffee and orange juice along with healthy selections from the gardens. One day, we had scrambled eggs, ham, and fruit. Another breakfast featured a spinach quiche with home fries and fruit. One small word of caution. If you are a hearty breakfast eater who enjoys bagels, toast, and pancakes in large quantities and intends to skip lunch and have dinner around 6:30 pm, rethink that plan. You will have to stop for lunch or, at the very least, plan to have snacks with you. In fact, the breakfast area had a supply of chocolates and snacks, such as corn chips, popcorn, and potato chips, to take along. The location, right on Jamestown Road across from the College of William and Mary, was only 1/2 mile from Colonial Williamsburg and 5 miles from the Jamestown Settlement and Archaeological Site. Even with a 7-year-old and two seniors, it was an easy walk to Colonial Williamsburg and a short drive to just about any restaurant you would like, from fast food to a variety of cuisines like Chinese, Mexican, and Italian. I have no reservations in recommending this bed-and-breakfast. read more

Booked the William Lee room during the Christmas holiday and it was an experience we'll never forget. Upon arrival, Mary greeted us and gave a quick tour. The next morning (Christmas), she was joined by Leroy and served breakfast and gave all the guests the history of the house and Williamsburg facts. It would be easy to be grumpy to have to work on Christmas, but this definitely wasn't the case. Alex the owner served us breakfast the next morning and was extremely personable. It was sad we had to leave after only two nights, but he told us some of the better times to visit again. Can't wait! read more

My sister booked this place because it was close to Williamsburg's Merchant Square, and just a few miles from Great Wolf Lodge where my nephew was staying on an overnight field trip with his class. It's located a few blocks from historic Merchants Square and across the street from the College of William and Mary. It's a great place to stay if you're exploring Colonial Williamsburg or visiting someone affiliated with the college. We stayed one night in their George Washington suite which has a queen and a twin bed (separated by a wall). The bathroom is really tiny and the shower a little weird. The shower stall is very narrow and because the shower head is too high, you can't adjust it. You have to stand against the wall in order to shower. Not great. The place was quiet and the bed quite comfortable. We missed breakfast (8-9 am) as we got up late. My sister and I are both night owls, so I stayed late reading and didn't get up early enough for breakfast. If they have a room with a bigger bathroom, I'd consider staying here again. read more

I have stayed as a single traveler and found it comfortable and convenient. This time as a family of 7 from OH and NC we met in Williamsburg. 5 adults 1 toddler and 1 6y.o. We had 3 different rooms and each was comfortable. The GW Suite was perfect for the parents with the children. A pac-n-play was provided. Special breakfasts for the kids was perfect. The Inn keeper, Alex was very pleasant, greeted us and gave us a tour. The location is great. The room was comfortable and in need of some care. The breakfast was a simple quiche with store bought crust and a small side salad. There was nothing unpleasant just nothing extraordinary. We have been to many bed & breakfasts so we have a good baseline. I see many 5-star ratings, to be fair, perhaps they don't have experiences to compare. This was the cutest bed-and-breakfast I have ever stayed in! We stayed in the George Washington room which was absolutely perfect. My six-year-old got such a kick out of having a TV in her room , which was an extension of the main bedroom. So perfect for a small family. A full Christmas tree in between two reading chairs next to a classic secretary was picture perfect. It felt like being home especially since there was a living room across the entryway, we sat and watch TV at night and talked to other people coming in. Plus, it wasn't your average continental breakfast. There was care put into the breakfast. A chilled bottle of wine waiting for us in our room both days, A very sweet welcome package for the kids with some candy and glow sticks and a kids history book! Everything was absolutely perfect. Wonderful BNB in a historic town. Large spacious rooms, clean yet historic feel. Beautiful grounds and lots of neat furniture and finishing touches. The beds are great too. Just the perfect mix of firm and soft. A great reason to have a wedding or just get away from it all. When you are served breakfast, which was tasty and well plated, an interesting and oddly funny server, Alex, takes pride and joy in sharing his plethora of Dad jokes and banter. Was there a murder in our room? Alex, "accidentally" slips it into the conversation. Do you know why all the Tea bags are organized? Alex shares his passion for arranging them. It's breakfast with a show and it's lots of good-natured fun done with a big heart. We had a blast. Definitely, recommend this place. It is an awesome and historic location. What a charming place! It is close to all the historic sites. We stayed there with our granddaughter in the Dogwood room which included both a king and twin sized bed. It is located in the back of the large lot. Beautifully decorated and very clean. The home itself is very welcoming and the trees surrounding the area are very impressive. While my father and I were down in Williamsburg back in August, we had the chance to stay at the Cedars.. to say the least, the experience we had there was like no other. To this day, I still think about our stay there- which is why I decided to write a review about it now. We were lucky enough to stay while Leroy and Alex, the owner, were there. They both made you feel like home not only at the bed and breakfast, but in Williamsburg itself. The area it's located in was perfect.. less than a 10 minute walk from the colonial strip with all the shops you need, and right across William and Mary, the campus I toured at the time. The main thing I was concerned about was the noise levels at night considering it's right across a college, but the few nights we were there it was silent. And lastly, the breakfast!!! Oh my goodness it was AMAZING! If you ever get the chance to have their banana bread, let me tell you that it's absolutely life-changing!!! read more

We chose the Cedars Bed & Breakfast based on other reviews, and we were thrilled that our last minute decision to stay overnight in Williamsburg was made so easy. We were able to find a highly-rated place to stay and book the room right from our phone. It is a definite plus that Bob is a marketing dynamo. We loved how a place with old world charm could also take advantage of today's technology. The place itself is beautiful, very clean and the garden is impecabble. We were there when the gardenias were in bloom so the smell was amazing. The gazebo tucked behind the house amongst the trees was a great escape and my husband was even visited by a deer while he sat out there. The room was well-decorated and quaint. The bed was big and comfortable and the overhead fan and central air-conditioning were a welcome comfort as we were there during a heat wave. Breakfast was fantastic and our hosts Bob and Grace told wonderful stories. It really was a warm, welcoming experience. Stayed at cedars for my girlfriends birthday this weekend. The stay was great. We originally booked the Rebecca rolfe room but we got upgraded upon our arrival for free! The room was quaint and perfect. Alex, the owner, was super up beat and helpful giving us recommendations around town. We were also able to get a birthday cake through Cedars which was a nice little surprise for my girl friend. We saw this beautiful property when we were leaving a day of moseying around colonial Williamsburg and had to stay there. The welcome was both warm and personal, along with full of excellent suggestions for nearby food and entertainment. We stayed in the cottage in the back and it was adorable, comfortable, really the perfect getaway. Breakfast was both delicious and amusing. Everyone was pulled into the lively conversation as if we'd known and even liked each other for years. We wished we could stay longer. Truly a joyful experience. If I could give this inn more stars I would. I usually do a lot of research before I book a hotel and I kind of just forgot to do it last week and I booked this on a whim. I ended up adding an extra night, and I'm so glad I did. This bed and breakfast is not to be missed if you're in the area. The location is phenomenal, and the inn is so cute and so well-kept. I have to say that normally I come home from vacations with big bags under my eyes from not sleeping well in the uncomfortable beds (true story!), but the two nights I stayed here I've slept better than I've slept in months. The breakfasts were great, and the entertainment from Alex the innkeeper was so unexpected yet so joyful. It was a great way to start off the days. Alex himself just brings such a positive vibe into the whole experience. I've really never encountered someone like him at a hotel in my travels, and he is going to give other people a lot to live up to from now on. This charming inn truly felt like a home away from home. We had an amazing stay at the Cedars! We stayed for one night and Alex, the innkeeper, was such a gracious host. We arrived about 30 min early and he was more than accommodating. He checked to make sure we had everything we needed and made sure we knew how to reach someone since we were in the detached building. Breakfast the next morning was delicious. Alex worked so hard serving us fresh coffee and tea while we waited for the socially distanced breakfast goers to finish up in the dining area. This B&B is superb, one of the best I've ever stayed in. The facility is terrific it's location is ideal but its greatest asset is its owner Alex and the chef. Alex is a fountain of useful information on where to and eat and visit. His tips made our visit to this great city far better than it would have been. His chef Haley served an exceptional gourmet breakfast, the best I've ever had in A BNB. The Rockefeller Museum and the Museum at Yorktown were highlights of our visit. For my 15th Wedding Anniversary, I decided to come to Colonial Williamsburg, VA. While here we stayed at the Cedars B&B and it was nothing short of fantastic! Alex, the owner greeted us at our car and helped with the Luggage. The accommodations were beautiful. Located next to a Lutheran Church and less than two miles from the attractions, it was ideally located. Quiet, clean and beautiful the facilities are welcoming and serve to create a relaxed environment. Dee-Dee also plays a big part of making you feel welcome with a warm smile and thoughtful conversation. Both Alex and Dee-Dee are genuinely pleasant and good people that will sit with you and chat in the breakfast nook along with any other guests. This was my first bed and breakfast, but I can't see how it could've been too much better. Your host at this bed and breakfast is gracious and wecloming. He knows pretty much everything about Williamsburg, and can direct you to any number of attractions, and give suggestions on planning your day. We had the christopher Wren suite, which was on the top floor, and was beautiful. My wife loved the setup of the room as well as the decor. The house staff is really friendly and often will stop to talk to you and help you enjoy your day. Great location.. we had an easy 5 minute bike ride into colonial Williamsburg Though I didn't do a full comparison with other Bed and Breakfasts in Wburg, the price felt slightly high.. but overall, a great experience. read more

Great location, lovely staff, and a very homely environment. Love that the breakfast food is homemade and changes daily, and Bob (the owner) was a terrific, engaging host. The two downsides: If you were to stay in the detached cottage which features two suites, you'd have to share the A/C settings with guests in the other suite. What if I like it toasty and the guests below me prefer their room cool? Also, I found the request for picture-taking a bit much. When they say they love taking pictures in your debriefing email, they were not lying, however, it comes off as being overeager for marketing. All in all, a great B&B worth checking in! read more

This was our first B&B experience. It was what I expected and not what I expected all at the same time, and a few aspects that could be slightly improved. The place was clean, and comfortable, and the staff was absolutely friendly and accommodating. The food was good, not great, and since my favorite part of vacations include eating locally, I am not sure the food was up to par. The Cedars is an easy walk to everything as it is perfectly located. Parking was just enough for the guests during our visit, so hopefully they don't ever have an extremely full house or the parking might be a challenge. Everything that I could have needed was provided during my stay, but I was not particularly needy during my weekend trip. Bob was delightful - but be warned - he will definitely be taking lots of pictures, maybe too many for the opinion of some. The room (the Martha Washington) was comfortable, but could use some rearranging as the bathroom door could not close due to the bed being too large in the bedroom. The building is extremely old (as expected in Williamsburg) so every movement causes a creak to be heard throughout the house. Overall, very warm and welcoming, I would definitely stay at the Cedars again if in Williamsburg. read more

Cedars of Williamsburg had the best reviews so we booked a Thomas Jefferson Suite the day before (Megan was super helpful!). The room was just how it was pictured (historical and well-maintained). The following morning we were seated at the dining area for breakfast and were greeted by Bob, the owner. He was super welcoming and made our stay more memorable than we expected. Cedars is one of the best B&B's I've ever stayed in. Alex (the owner) is congenial, warm and friendly giving you a 5 star experience in a beautifully restored colonial period home with a stunning garden in the back. Every detail shows his love of history and the joy he takes in being your host. We stayed in the Patrick Henry room at the top floor and it was beautiful, immaculate and spotles with a super comfy bed. The morning breakfast was delicious with Alex serving individually prepared meals by Chef Hailey. Let me just say Hailey can cook. Don't miss her breakfast trust me when I saw there is no better in town. She has a very bright culinary future. My husband and I had never stayed in a bed and breakfast I was a little leary. We stayed in the Lord Botetourt room which is located in the building in back of the house. The room was clean and comfortable we had a fireplace but was not able to use it due to the gas was not on. We were a little disappointed as we had been out in the cool air all afternoon. By the time we realized we could not use the fireplace it was after 9 pm and did not think this was an emergency. I was disappointed in the breakfast. I am not sure if I had the wrong idea of what breakfast would be like but scrambled eggs, potatoes and a sweet bread is not what I thought it would be. There was a full house I thought the breakfast should have had a bigger variety maybe breakfast meat or fruit or more than a few scrambled eggs in a bowl. We met Laura very nice and friendly. I think a little more on the breakfast buffet would help. We totally enjoyed ourselves with the location being so close to Market Square and the comfy room. read more
