Colonial Capital B&B features large bedrooms and private bathrooms in a picturesque setting.
    Dale W.

My wife and I stayed here in early October. Since this was the off-season, only two of the other rooms were booked. George Hollingsworth was our solitary host, but he was extremely gracious and eager to meet all of our needs, and perfectly capable of handling the entire show by himself. When we initially arrived, the other rooms were not yet occupied and so we were able to take a tour of the entire establishment. All of the rooms are exactly as pictured on their website. They are tastefully decorated in colonial period, with a small television set the only concession to the modern world. We stayed in the York room. It was very comfortable and quiet with a terrific view towards the front. George serves a delicious breakfast that varied from day-to-day during our three-day stay. Not exactly recommended for the diet-conscious, however. Beverages included hot tea, coffee, and orange juice. Best of all, the B&B is directly across the road from William and Mary College and just a few short blocks from Colonial Williamsburg. This is extremely important as parking in Williamsburg is extremely limited and being within walking distance of everything was highly convenient. Even some of the best restaurants that Williamsburg has to offer were just around the corner. Be sure and dine at least once at the Green Leafe Cafe and Paul's Delly (yep, that's how it's spelled... and just across the street from the college even!). Prices are very reasonable and the food is delicious. As far as atmosphere... think early American Pub. George can also purchase tickets for Colonial Williamsburg using their online service, thereby saving yourself a potential lengthy wait at the ticket counter in town. The wait can often be significant during tourist season, but in our case it saved only 10 minutes or so. Still... All in all, a very pleasant, relaxing stay in a very accommodating tourist town. Being the off-season, prices were cheaper, but far from cheap at $160 per night. With the Colonial Williamsburg tickets and taxes thrown in, the price worked out to $208 per night. Quite reasonable for Williamsburg.

We arrived around 6:30 PM to check in on a Friday and were promptly greeted. Desk attendant acknowledged my Platinum Status and was very friendly. We were given a room on the 1st floor. Room was a two queen bedroom suite with a sofa. Room was a fair size, one tv, bed was comfortable and everything appeared clean. Breakfast each morning was good. Eggs, hash browns, a meat or apples, waffles. A very good selection. Sunday there was a large group of students. Everything was pretty good. They have a game room present with an arcade. My youngest son spent almost an hour in here on 10.00. We used the pool which had a tepid temperature and the hot tub was so so. Location is outstanding. Short drive to Colonial Williamsburg or Busch Gardens. Plenty of restaurants and other businesses nearby. Only question is the color scheme, otherwise this is a perfect option in the area. I'd definitely consider staying here again.

The location of the inn could not be more perfect - adjacent to the historical area and close to many great restaurants. Our "George Washington" room was fabulous! Sometimes staying in an old historic building means dealing with dated rooms. Everything in our room was updated, thoughtful, comfortable, and spotlessly clean. Lots of wonderful little touches. The four poster bed was very comfortable and the shower excellent. The wifi worked great and there were lots of convenient plugs, There is a nice lounge area with a lovely adjacent terrace and snacks and tea and coffee available along with a nice continental breakfast. We were there on a Monday night so not all restaurants were open but we enjoyed visits to Precarious, Amber Ox, Mellow Mushroom and Aromas. Thank you to Billy and Sharon for a wonderful stay!

We were disappointed that the breakfasts are no longer complimentary. Parking is good and ample. The front desk and restaurant crew were very helpful and greeted us every time. Shout out to Nancy who went the extra mile to ensure we had what we needed. The hairdryer was broken in our room and another clerk (sorry I do not recall her name) quickly went and brought us another one. The mattress seemed a little firm and was not as comfortable as other Hilton facilities, but maybe it's a sign I am getting older. We appreciated our stay but have experienced better at other Hilton facilities. This does not mean that the staff are not attentive, just a different experience for us this round. Swimming area was nice though a bit warm. Water temp was nice. Hot tub was not working very well, but they were aware and were trying to address it. Great location close to a lot of local attractions and great restaurants.

They said "we thought you already checked out." I had not and felt extremely intruded upon. I gave it a second try last weekend - never again. This time there wasn't much the staff could have done. The hallways and main corridors were super warm. The room was renovated and was clean - mostly, however, the walls were super thin. One one side a family was blasting the movie Hamilton halfway into the night while on the other side a toddler was screaming for hours. The child did not sleep until after 1AM... so neither did we. I don't blame the other guests, however, structurally I would not stay here. The doors were also thin so I knew who was running down the hall and talking at all hours. I was lucky - our room, 403, was near the end of the hallway. I can't imagine what it would have been like in front of the elevator. At breakfast the person helping us kept standing there staring at us. Each time I went back up to the buffet, I felt their eyes on me. It was quite uncomfortable. Finally, worst of all, I did not feel safe in my room. The hitch that holds the door closed was loose and I didn't trust it to keep us safe. I reported all of these concerns at checkout. I was not even thanked for letting them know, muchless had anyone apologize for the experience. This one is a nope for me.

There may be a family that benefits from housekeeping that swings a door into your feet at 9am, because they are hanging off of a creaky bed, but it certainly wasn't mine. Never mind the pretentiousness of a pretend cigar lounge, meaning not one to smoke in but just an aesthetic throwback to a time when people actually enjoyed themselves at this location. Not that one would want a cigar after eating chocolate pudding that tastes like it was infused with Trix cereal or any of the other dishes who sacrifice taste for novelty. I would have at least been frightened by the Colonial Williamsburg ghost tour, but after staying at this location, I realized that even the spirits probably wouldn't stick around.

First of all, there was an instruction card that came with the reservation however while it did indicate that there is a backdoor, it did not inform that this was the 'main' entrance. There is very limited parking and if you want to park across at the church on or the street, you are at risk of towing. They have no passes for parking in these locations. The beds are their own issue. If you are vertically challenged, you will have great difficulty getting into the main beds. We stayed in a 'suite' (I use this term laughingly as it was just two connecting rooms) that had another room with twin beds. While the main bed seemed to have a mattress from the last century, the twin beds were ancient. The "pillows" that they give you are quite literally flatter than a pancake they would serve you for breakfast. The suite we stayed in was in the front of the house and there is no insulation to cancel ANY of the traffic noises from outside. It was very very stuffy inside and I wasn't able to open a window. We asked for a step stool and were given one that wasn't even as high as a normal step on a staircase. It was still very difficult to get in to the bed. At no time while I was there did I see, hear or meet the host/hostess of the B&B. The only time we met any employee was in the morning during breakfast. These ladies were AMAZING. They almost made up for the lack of any other service or greeting in their friendliness. The breakfast was late the day I was there. There are signs everywhere stating that it would be served at 8:30 but it was closer to 9:30. I'm an early riser so this was a bit of an inconvenience. At least the coffee was available. They had eggs, fresh fruit, yogurt, toast, cereal etc. It was set up as a buffet style in a very stylish area of the serving area. The dining room table is gorgeous but there are no placemats to put your plates on, I felt very worried about scratching this gorgeous table. The non guest rooms were fit with comfy areas to just relax and chill after a day of being a tourist. The furniture may not have been the most comfortable, but given how cozy each area was this was easily forgiven. I really enjoyed that each room had a Christmas tree already set up. This is not very handicapped friendly as no matter which way you enter, there are very old steps. The front steps were especially bad. To sum up; Parking; F Comfort; B Room Comfort: C+ Breakfast: A Location: A- Price: C (for our experience it was really really pricey)
