Because believe me, judging by personal experience and or the parking on any given day, this pool is about as busy and as valued a resource to this particular community is they come. And while this review will focus on the pool once more, the entire complex is well put together with the exception of the available parking. Other than the olympic size pool downtown near the Coliseum, (which dates back about a century), I'd go as far as to say this is either the second or third best in the city and or county of LA system. You can purchase all kinds of passes, but you must be mindful of all the various schools, programs, and litany of classes that you will have to navigate around. And it's mentioned before, getting a parking spot is on par with winning a small lottery. read more

The facility itself is genuinely good -- clean, well-maintained, and one of the few year-round public pools in South LA. Staff are friendly and really helpful. But consistently during peak evening and morning hours, half the lanes are blocked for the US synchronized swimming team. For a neighborhood where the public pool isn't a supplement to private access -- it's the only access -- that's a real problem. Hoping management reconsiders how lane time is allocated. read more

I often lap swim at this facility bright and early in the morning they offer 6 AM to 9 AM sessions and that works great for me. It is newly built not remodeled. The old facility sat in a different location and this is a new development for the new sports complex. I see some complaints in regards to the parking, but there is additional parking on the backside of the running track. There's different sessions for recreational and lap swimming. Rude older front desk lady said I needed to bring exact change when I tried to pay with a 20. Didn't offer any alternate option and was very standoffish. How are you a place that takes cash and doesn't have change. That's your problem to fix. She seemed pretty miserable. Maybe find a job where you dont have to deal with the public next time. Will be avoiding this place the water is also not that clean, with clumps of hair floating around in the pool. read more

Olympic size swimming pools for kids and adults with training classes and equipment. Always a crowd of people attending this facility.

First of all not sure why people are complaining. The raffle is the most democratic way for people to get their kids to swim as the previous way where people will come early and chain their chairs to keep a space was unfair. I saw the same faces every time when there was not a fair process. The pool is large and the people who work there are friendly and supportive. I am happy to see how the aerobic classes have double or tripled in size and Juan and Tracy has been a great fixture for the classes. The biggest problem is parking but everything else is just great for this neighborhood. I come here every so often to either swim or do some water exercises. The three stars I suppose is as close to an average as I can guestimate for the following: 1. 5 stars - it's huge. ample room for laps and free swimming. 2. 5 stars - they have plenty of accessories for exercising that you might not need to bring your own. 3. 3 stars - overly strict on some rules. I am disabled and sometimes will float on my own 'noodle' that's inflatable, while exercising. NOPE. absolutely no outside toys or accessories besides what they have. 4. 3- stars - in the men's area, they need another ADA changing area, not just one. 5. 1 star - parking. I honestly don't think who ever built this did not at all think this thoroughly. They not only share the parking with the other athletic facilities in the building, but they also share it with the huge baseball field! So when there is some sort of game, you have folks going in circles looking for a space. It's like the mall on black Friday, back when people went to malls... read more

The manager is very rude and they make the the people do a raffle for the space in a swim class and anyways they don't let the participation of the people who are there and they only let somepeople that they want them to join get in and the manager thinks that just because she is the manager she gets to boss people around and doesn't care about other people's need.In the middle of the raffle I asked her to please shake the container with the raffle tickets and all she did was roll her eyes at me and got mad.To some people she asked them that they could take the swim test but for others she just tells her to go.shes being very racist and not fair. read more

Not sure why this facility has such a low rating, and I am almost hesitant to write this positive review because who wants to patronize an over crowded facility? However, this facility is fully remodeled, has ample pool space, and is extremely clean. The changing rooms are relatively clean, with warm showers, but much too small for such a big pool. The water aerobics classes have literally changed my life. The instructor is AMAZING, and better than ANYWHERE in the city. The staff is generally polite and attentive. Parking is inadequate only because this is a shared athletic COMPLEX, with various facilities (tennis courts, track, gymnasium, etc.), and the EV charging stations in the parking lot attract additional folks who aren't using the sports facilities. read more

The pool venue looks amazing. Very state of the art. One pool for shallow water and other pool for deeper lap swimming.

We Highly recommend Alberto who is an amazing swim coach and trainer. He trained the Tiny Tots this summer for a 2 week course. Yes, he absolutely nailed it. The participants were comfortable, willing, energetic, and eager to follow his lead. Why? Alberto is humorous, silly, and he has a funny way of motivating the tiny tots. He is extremely patient and he communciates with the learners through constant modeling . Alberto poses many leadership qualities. Alberto also uses varies strategies: role modeling, prompt cues, alternative and adaptive equipment. accommodations for recalling information , water games to enhance confidence, and most all of ALL , Alberto is extremely patient. We appreciate his diligence to ensure that the swimmers are prepared, confident, and skilled by Day 10. read more

Love the facility but the swim test here is a joke. My eight year old who has passed the swim test at every other pool in town failed it here. You have to be an Olympic swimmer to be able to swim in the deep end. Ironically she just took a three day swim clinic here two weeks prior that solely took place in the deep end. I guess we will keep swimming at the expo pool and avoid this one. read more

The fat Hispanic lady at the front desk is super rude. My family was treated like garbage and they would not allow my child to wear her floater. I called and I was not told to bring exact change..it came to $9 I gave her a Ten..I told her to keep the change and she completely chastised me. The staff here is awesome! The first time I ever set foot in this facility I was about 7 years old. I came here for swim lessons and on hot summer days for recreational swimming. 32 years later literally one thing has changed...the depth of the pool. Once upon a time the pool use to have a deep end with a dive board and 12 ft to 14 ft of water. I absolutely know the board was there because I jumped from it for the first and last time in life. The deep end is gone now, and I believe the deepest you will get is 8ft. So the good... They have swim classes for adult learners, as well as for children, exercise classes, and various swim sports. For the adult swim courses the instructors do NOT get in the water. Therefore it CAN make some of the techniques VERY difficult to grasp for a non swimmer. Keep in mind I learned to swim years ago however, I am coming to support a non swimmer who is afraid of water as well to CORRECT some bad habits I have developed over time. Everyone is VERY friendly, especially Jasmine who greets you at the front desk. I'd give the staff 6 stars if I could. Now for the cons: The facility itself can DEFINITELY use an upgrade and makeover. The pool was closed for a very long time, I'm assuming to resurface the pool to rid it of the deep end. During the closure. It sure would have been worth it to do something with the locker rooms. Concrete lasts many years as it is concrete in the locker rooms. The locker room area has mostly changing stalls with no door and only 4 larger stalls with doors. Not sure why not having a door to the stalls could not be accommodated however, it doesn't bother me. I don't mind being seen without clothing for the brief time while changing my clothes. The actual shower area is a MESS. the water backs up into the walkway area due to the poor draining. There are 3 shower heads connected to one post. There are a total of 3 posts. Quite impossible for 3 people to share the 3 heads even IF you tried. There are 2 single stall showers, one is out if service with caution tape and the other yuuuck the drain is bad..so you'll be standing in a large amount of water. Dear Los Angels recreation department, please come save this facility. read more

First the positive... The staff is very friendly and helpful. The water is warm and the pool always appears to be clean. Now for the 'not so great'.... I first came to this pool when I was a child for swimming lessons 50+ years ago and like me this facility is worn and old.. although it is clean, everything is so old and worn it looks dirty (chipped paint and cracked walls, rusted and chipped chrome). The last time I visited I saw large waterbugs (I hope they were waterbugs!) crawling in the dressing room. One of the patrons was so used to them, she had her own bottle of spray and she walked around spraying them before she got ready to swim. I keep everything in sealed plastic and I spend as little time in the dressing room as possible. read more

This pool is quite possibly the worse public pool I have ever been to, ever. The locker rooms are just gross, takes about 10 mins to get any hot water in the scary showers, and the whole open concept in a locker is just weird to me. The pool area is equally gross. I highly recommend never walking barefoot on the pool deck, I did the first time I swam here and I saw tons of ants. The water is freakishly warm. Which gives me the heebies. And they have this jerk of a lifeguard who basically yelled at me to get out of the pool 15 mins before the end of the lap swim time because apparently thats what they do at this pool. I usually go to John Argue/Coliseum pool and although it has its negatives it is worth the drive out of my hood to avoid getting fungus or anything other scary diseases. read more

This venue is a serious health risk and should not re-open during summer of 2013. Since 2003, Celes King III Swimming Pool has been battling severe problems, ranging from harmful fungus, mold, rats and ants to defective heating and sewer systems. I personally know a man who sadly contracted a fungal infection in 2012 that resulted in hair loss and discoloration of the skin in his groin area and around his mouth. He remains under doctor's care one year later as efforts continue to restore his skin's pigmentation. This man's prescribed antibiotics were so strong, he had to be checked for possible liver damage. Although this pool serves a booming African American and Hispanic community, it should be torn down and re-built. Conditions are so deplorable, even the mayor's office has placed Celes King III Swimming Pool on the L.A.'s list of venues in immediate need of attention. It is a true blue cesspool in its current state. I've given this pool one star due to its friendly staff. read more

The pool is small, the locker rooms aren't the greatest (there are only a couple of showers), and the water is a bit warm for my liking, but yay! I can actually lap swim here! I went in the evening and was able to split a lane and then have one all to myself -- I was pretty sure that's impossible in LA! Everyone at this pool was friendly, too.
