Amazing experience and if you ever have an opportunity to visit... worth while!…read more You will learn a lot not just how good their wines are but, the type of soil as well as grapes that work well with specific soil. What are waiting for ... "Go!".

If you can't make the trek up to Calistoga, the Chateau Montelena tasting room at the Westin St…read more Francis is the ultimate San Francisco shortcut. It's a sophisticated, intimate pocket of wine country tucked away in the lobby of one of the city's most historic hotels. Mr. Chiang was a wonderful and most gracious host. He shared the story of the "judgement of Paris", which is what had me drawn to the tasting room. As a somm, I am fully aware of the story, but I don't recall ever having the wine before. And as a big fan of Bourgogne, I took advantage of the opportunity to try the famous chardonnay. Simply put, it's reminiscent of a Grand Crus Bourgogne... something from Montrachet but with a little more sunshine. No wonder the judges picked them! And the rest of their wines were no less impressive. When you swirl a glass of their Cabernet, you can taste that distinct Calistoga "dust" and the structure that comes from their specific hillside vineyards. I've always considered graphite and cassis the hallmark of a good cab, and both are present in their 2013 cab. Still youthful, vibrant, and very balanced with the perfect tanning. The Riesling deserves a shout out because it's beautiful. If you are a fan of GG Mosel Riesling, then this wine will give you a run for your money. Lastly, their 2023 Zinfandel is brilliant and youthful, but can definitely use another 5-8 years to add more layers and complexity. But if you like fresh red fruits with a hint of darker berries mixed with the same volcanic dust notes as the Cab, this would be a great choice! It's a testament to their winemaking that the sense of place travels so well in the bottle. And when the opportunity arises, I would like to be able to visit the chateau and breathe in the terroir...

TLDR: Cute sake/wine bar with a pretty interior. Excellent…read morebrew&vino selection. Very very clean & professional service. Literally a hidden gem. I met here with an acquaintance to discuss something important over drinks & we had a special time. The nature of our discussion was certainly influenced in a relaxed manner by the mild volume music playing, soft lighting, and high ceilings. The interior was beautiful, very custom lighting covers & wooden racks. Somewhat large selection of wines/sake but it wasn't overwhelming due to the simplified menu that they provided. Service was top tier, a server stopped by about three times to collect empty containers, refill water, and check-in about how the drinks were. With a friendly expression on their face each time. The lucky dog sake juice box and beer combo was SUUUUCH a good move! I've been a fan of the lucky dog/cat/chicken brand, for their fun packaging of beers. However, I did not know that they craft sake wine boxes too. That is out of this world! And I believe that, to use a baseball metaphor, they "hit the ball out of the park!" On this one. The beer wasn't half bad either. Would I recommend going to Millay? Hell yeah dude!!!

I'm so surprised this place exists in the city! I've been looking for sake bars in SF, and saw…read morereviews about this spot being fairly low key. It's not too far from the main street in the area, and the moment I got out of my uber, I knew this place would be a vibe! I came here at 7:30pm the day after Christmas, so it was empty. I love the vibe of Millay - artsy decor, pink neon lights, and cute seats to sit in. I tried two different types of clean + fruity sake, and it came in such a cute ceramics! The cashier helped us choose, and we were able to taste it before purchasing. I also loved their basket of Asian chips! They even made it a lil fancy by cutting the top and making it look like a bowl haha. A great spot for a small social gathering of 2-4 people. I love the chill vibes and intimate setting. I will defs be back!

Came here with a friend as she moved to the neighborhood recently and wanted to show me the bars…read morearound her! This was one of the bars, and definitely my favorite in the area. I love the interior as well as the lighting inside. I also like the mix of seating - from bar seating to velvet couches. It feels quite intimate inside, and the music is very nice as well. I got one of the gluten-free ciders to try, and it was great! I loved the fruity flavors of the drink and enjoyed that they labeled the gluten-free options carefully on the menu. On the day we went, they also were serving empanadas, and they looked so big and smells quite delicious. I definitely would've gotten one if I hadn't already been stuffed from dinner. The service was also great as the waiter came and checked on us periodically, and also answered questions we had about the food and drinks :) Definitely will be coming back again!

The vibe inside is elevated beer / wine bar but still casual. Was there on a Monday night and they had live jazz which was pretty cool. They recently changed to tacos (instead of the old Joyride pizza) and honestly was pretty disappointed in the new food. The chicken tostada had cold chicken and was basically a cheesy salad. The bartender did comp a chicken taco for me to make up for it but it was nothing special either sadly. The wine and vibes are great however if you eat before!
