We came in a fit of nostalgia, seeing how we're staying this time at the Atlanta Hilton, which is no more than an 8-minute brisk walk away. The park itself is lovely, despite the minimal homeless "problem" dampening one's visit. But we were bummed that the section where our brick is was cordonned off, along with large tranches, with neither explanation nor any notice about when they'd be open again. GRRR! I vividly remember watching the 1996 Olympics as a kid. I'd stay up late watching the reruns - and although I didn't fully understand the scope of hosting an Olympic Games, I knew it was a big deal. I also remember the bombing at the park - once again I didn't fully understand the scope of the attack, but I remember it being terrifying. I'll be honest - there isn't much to do here if you aren't with your kids, but still worth a little walk through. It's located next to the aquarium, civil rights museum and CocaCola World. Inside the park itself there are a ton of benches in the shade to sit and enjoy...I don't know, maybe..a pop from the King Of Pops truck? Yes, that's the best thing to do on a hot summer day! The kids will be splish-splashing as jets of water shoot up from the ground. Seemed like they were having a blast. Overall, I guess it was kind of cool to be in a park that so many years ago was built specifically for the Games - and so many folks visited the park that year. It's a somewhat historic park, which makes you proud we hosted the Games. read more

Great place to chill out with your family or have a solo run around the park. The downtown in the surrounding gives a nice feel to the park which is located in the heart of the downtown. My kids love playing in the splashpad alongwith me joining in with them too. Parking can be done by the aquarium and you can walk down here. read more

Ice skating in the park, yay or nay?! We arrive at the park around 8:00. When I say packed I seriously mean packed!! I think the concept was really nice, BUT, there were a ton of teenagers on the ice wearing sneakers, just standing around talking. Normally when you go roller skating or bowling they sanitize the skates/shoes with spray (or at least they spray something in them to give you the illusion that germs and harmful fungi is being contained), well not here! The skates were wet and almost unbearably smelly (ugh). The number of kids under the age of 10 seemed to out number the adults, the kids would run around and toss ice at one another, and literally grab you as a shield. It was a nice experience but I doubt I would ever go again, the rink was way too small for the amount of people. The only good thing was after wards you get to walk around the park and see the lights, that is if you can forget about your bacteria infested feet. read more

Centennial is perfectly located in the center of downtown Atlanta. There is truly SO much to do in the area. The park is beautiful with great views. It's big and spacious and an ideal place to have a nice picnic with all the grass around. There's little to no activities at the actual park itself, but it's still very nice. There is a mini playground for kids. I've been several times and have always enjoyed my time there, whether I was just strolling through or shooting a video. During my most recent visit, there was a huge FREE block party before the Birthday Bash concert. That was too much fun!! Great park to experience. read more

Centennial park is one of the most prettiest parks I have seen. This park has so much to offer. It's a great outing for everyone! This park is also historical it was a gathering place for people during the Olympics Centennial park has like a water fountain that kids enjoy cooling off during the hot summer weather. They also have a few places to eat and the Coca Cola museum is also located in the park. At times the parks features live concerts! My review is not about the entire park but the hot chocolate 15K/5K they have annually. This year it was held at Centennial Park. Previously it's been at Turner Field. Transportation:I recommend Marta. Let's be honest, the day of the race that's where the bonding begins. Everyone is social and supportive of each other when they enter the train. The race normally offers parking tickets at the expo. This allows you to secure your parking prior to race day. The day of is hectic as is and parking downtown can start around $30 close to the venue. Course: This years course was mainly flat and on the 5k course we circled around the park, Ga world congress center, downtown Atlanta, the stadium and many other landmarks. The city and organization do a great job keeping the course clean, and marked off to keep cars from running us over. Price: If you purchase the ticket early before all the price increases you can pay around $40 for entry. Post party: This is where the fun begins with live djs and a fondue bowl souvenir includes: cup of hot chocolate, banana, Rice Krispie, marshmallow, crackers, pretzels and the best chocolate fondue I've ever had. It's fun by yourself but even more when enjoyed with friends. Also, a great way to meet friends. See you next year on the course. read more

Was looking for a nice park to go to with my two dogs and noticed that this park got 4 star ratings on Yelp so went to check it out but there's really nothing to see here. Also, the day we went, there was some cheer event so it was packed with kids everywhere you turn. I don't really consider this a "park" just a big open green field...more of a tourist attraction. Across the main field is the Coca Cola museum and there are statues and a restaurant and that's about it. It was cool just to check out but I probably wouldn't come back. read more

This is definitely one of the biggest and greatest parks in all of Atlanta! It is Downtown Atlanta right next to the Coca Cola Factory, Georgia Aquarium, and the famous ATL Ferris Wheel! They have an excellent 4th of July fireworks show every year as well as other festivals and events throughout the year. In my opinion, the best way to get here is to take MARTA to the Peachtree Center station and walk less than one mile to the park. If you do that, you avoid traffic and expensive parking garages. The most recent event I went here for was the Sweetwater 420 Festival on Sunday! It was a 3-day festival at the park. The environment and weather were beautiful! They had Sweetwater beer tents up everywhere and even one specific tent for $4 samples of all different kinds of Sweetwater beers. There was a different live band on stage playing all day long as well as a separate hip-hop/dubstep stage with DJs etc. in a further area of the park. They had many local vendors with their tents selling baked goods or apparel products. Of course there were plenty of food trucks as well! Unfortunately once you left the park, there was no re-entry but we had a fantastic time! I definitely recommend people of all ages to check out this park and bring a Frisbee too! read more

Hurray for downtown! I really don't make it out here very much, but every time I do it seems like the activity has something to do with Centennial Olympic Park. Even if it's not directly, the park is almost literally a jewel in our city because it compliments its surroundings so well. Many offices and hotels overlook the the fountains (if you haven't seen them, they have been memorialized at the airport for almost a decade in the giant mural that greets everyone arriving as they come up the escalators). It's bright. It's clean. It's pretty. It's accessible. Plus, it's historic... well, it marks a place in history. All great qualities for a fabulous park. read more

I finally had the chance to walk through this park and view all of the statues and see what it was all about. The only negative was that the grass was all brown, but it is winter time and the grass isn't going to get watered this time of year. I've seen it from above and on TV, but had never had the chance to actually view it for myself, it was well worth taking time to do so. It's in the main Downtown area so I stopped by for like 20 minutes while I was scootering around. It's pretty cool to see, I mean it's not like you can see olympic parks everyday. The rings and 'torches' were probably the coolest thing to see. There's not much else that I noticed. Worth stopping by if you're downtown. Wouldn't go super out of the way to see it. read more

This park was literally right outside the Glenn Hotel where we were staying. It was like having my own little Olympic Park in my back yard. The park was very clean, had bricks with names on them throughout the entire park, and lots of statues and fountains. This was a photographers dream. We were fortunate enough to come when they had the covered outdoor skating rink. The rates were reasonable $7.00 for 90 minutes and skate rentals were $2.00. The signs were very informative, the location was pristine, and it was filled with families who were enjoying the weekend. I do not get to parks often, it just happened to be in my path from the Glenn Hotel to the World of Coke. I am happy to have taken the time to take some beautiful photos of my wife, and to have visited a park that was at the heart of the Olympics. 5 Stars to Centennial Olympic Park. NCFoodGuy read more

Ok so on Saturday afternoon I went out to the park to try my own shot at the "ice skating" and I had a BLAST!! It was a bit busy, but not too overcrowded. Alot of individuals were standing on the side watching over the rink. But on the rink their was plenty of space to move around in. We were newbies, so it took us a minute to get used to the ice, and so we were among the rest of the individuals clinging on to the side of the railing as we went around, but once we got the hang of it, we were on the go!!! read more

I wish I'd had more time while I was there, but a giant thunderstorm was rolling in and we needed to find some shelter.... The last time I visited Atlanta we stayed downtown because all the touristy things we had planned on seeing are all near the Olympic park. We had to walk through the park every day we were there to see the attractions (CNN, World of Coke, Georgia Aquarium) so we walked most of the park several times. The park has trees mostly along the perimeter but the middle is mostly flat green and widely open. That being said most of the aesthetics is along the parts that border the streets such as the fountains, flower bushes and play parks. The Olympic rings on the ground is a large mosaic type piece and many bricks nearby have names etched in them most likely contributors while near the rings is a large pool and fountain. Overall it is a nice park but it is large and the middle is just open space with grass with nothing really exciting to break up that monotony. I was near the area for 4th of July one year and the park was closed off until a certain time while the area was swarming with security, police, etc. I felt safe going through this park during the day as it is a very nice open area. read more

Any park that has a water fountain feature synchronized to Neal Diamond tunes can't be ignored... It's bigger than it looks as you zoom past it on the way to Philips Arena or CNN Center. They do a good job of hosting the occasional event and keeping it clean for the tourists. There's definitely a lot more people in the park now that the Aquarium is around. If you're in town for a convention or working nearby, give it a shot in the spring for an impromptu lunchtime picnic. Just don't lose your mind and run into the fountains with the kids. read more

It's almost as if it were yesterday when the 1996 Atlanta Olympics were on the TV. As a young child, it was so cool to see! When you walk through the city, you can continue to see the remnants of that time when Atlanta hosted, but there is nothing as iconic as the Centennial Olympic Park. Located in the "center" of town, the park is surrounded by Skyview Ferris Wheel on one end and the Georgia Aquarium, World of Coke and the Civil Rights museum on the other. It's about a 10 min walk from the Hilton, Hyatt and Marriott Marquis where many conferences take place. The park is a beautiful open space. Not as big as you would have expected but year round they will have the Olympic ring "fountain" that you can see people trying to run through without getting wet (we ... mistimed them and definitely got wet!). You can get a beautiful photograph of the skyline as well that is unobstructed by trees. Well worth the visit especially for those who enjoy taking a stroll around the town! read more

The park was designated as "the town square of the Olympics" and it definitely is the the town square now. Take a close look at the all the fine details. I don't remember anything about the 1996 Olympics, but very cool to visit the place that is such a huge point of pride for Atlanta. Great location in downtown, with other attractions nearby. I was working at the Georgia World Congress Center, so afterwards we walked through the park. Later that night we went back to see the park from the ferris wheel. The Olympic rings looked majestic from up there. The next day after work, we stopped by the park again and fortunate to be there for the Wednesday WindDown. Loved the vibe - people were just so happy and jovial and relaxed. We need more of that. read more

It's a nice area for people watching and enjoying the water shows at the fountain. If you work downtown, it would be ideal for moments of peace during the day. Super Bowl live! This place was transformed to support Atlanta hosting the super bowl this year. It was wonderfully put together and had so much to do. There was demos of cars, tostitos cantina, arts area, a Verizon hub where you can take pictures etc. They did a great job at photo ops and had the security on point. I volunteered as a team Atl point person and was grateful to be able to get in and see the festivities. I enjoyed the Olympic Rings and all of the thoughtful things like charging stations etc. Super Bowl live was pretty awesome and they did a great job showing how awesome Atlanta is! read more

Centennial Olympic park is pretty cool. Sure it could be better but lets face it- a lot of Atlanta could be better. I love it because it reminds of 2 great events. In 2006 or 2007 the Dalai Lama was here and spoke here. I came and I was mesmerized and inspired. i won't ever forget. That guy was pretty cool and wise. The other time was right after I adopted my dog at the atlanta humane society I brought him here and we walked around and he ate some of my subway leftovers. He was still a baby dog and 10 lbs. Now he's around 70. how time flies. I remember that rascal jumping around on his little red leash and trying to lick every person that walked by. Everybody stopped to say "aw". What a cutie. no wonder I adopted him. Nice park with good events every once in a while. read more

It isn't Central Park or Grant Park but it's the City of Atlanta's park. Yes that is obvious but it is enough just to have cool music in the park, events, people to gather and have a good time. Nice time to bring the kids out and run through the fountain water on a hot day. The knock on Centennial is that if there was a major major event, it isn't big enough to hold people to come. It's a clean park, nice to walk around but little to no shade so you will be getting your unofficial tan on! Grade: C read more

My first impression was. OH MAH GAWD!! I'm here at the Centennial Olympic park. The park in itself is GINORMOUS!! There are cops and securities patrolling on bicycle. Plenty of grass to let the kiddies run around on. The park was so pretty with it's views. My sister-in-law noticed how much I was snapping away with my camera. I was such a tourist here. It was great. The view of the city, the buildings (skyscrapers??), other tourist walking about. The playground was awesome. It was made for all children, and when I say ALL, I mean it. There's braille, there ramps to wheel about. Swings for everyone to sit in that a parent won't say 'no' to a special needs child. I didn't get to try the 'sway' table. There was a family already on it. But it's like a picnic bench where you actually get to sway and rock around, your drink or food will not spill! How fun it looked! the DOWNSIDE-- I thought to myself, wow fancy looking moms at the park with their kids. As I watched my Andrew(s) play, those moms only watched their kids. Watch is good right? Nope! They watched their kids almost trample my Andrew(s). There are 6 slides! But their little rambunctious hooligans kept clawing their way backwards and climbing on the 'rocks' back to the same slide and almost stepping on my kids! SO NOT COOL MOMS! THe worse part of it all? They seemed to ignore it. The security patrolling the place was over at the stage area just talking to the cop there. I'm pretty sure it's nothing we can't handle, nor would they say or do anything. I'd feel better if they actually did something about it. Ranting, I know, but that bugged me so bad! the UPSIDE-- So my brother, his wife and I took the kids further down to park. There are statues there, a water fountain. Plus the view was gorgeous of the buildings all around you. I didn't even know the CNN building was there until I saw Anderson Cooper's face. Just the park itself was a great place to see advertisements! I took lots of pictures with the sunlight bouncing off the buildings, the kids got to play. I also felt like I got to see a part of Olympic history... yes, I was a few years too late to see the actual thing, but to see what was left of it?! No regrets :) read more
