I have had horrendous problems which the management has refused consistently to address, in violation of the contract each resident is required to sign. In addition, I have repeatedly requested another apartment, which until recently they have also denied me, in violation of the reasonable accommodation law. I have finally, after seven years of fighting, wrested another apartment from them, but only as a result of six months of threatening the Director of the facility with litigation, public exposure and going to her superiors. Center Communities is owned by Hebrew SeniorLife, an organization in the Boston area that owns and operates nursing homes, rehab facilities and housing for seniors and the disabled. Unfortunately, is a horribly run organization with many problems that have gone unaddressed for decades. Twenty years ago, my grandfather was in their rehab and nursing facility in Roslindale. His life was shortened as a result of the abuse he suffered, and his last several months were made far more difficult than they needed to be. I have since seen, with the elderly parents of friends, more examples of the pattern of abuse, neglect and overall incompetence that characterizes the organization. The program of apathy and abuse which I have encountered, along with the stress to which I have been subjected, have destroyed my health. From the moment we walked into Waterstone we knew we were in a special place. The staff are beyond wonderful! Kind and helpful- they went above and beyond. My aunt selected Waterstone at the Circle and the staff made the job of moving in so much easier!!! Any issue, they were there to help. They helped with hanging all the art and with understanding appliances and getting rides to appointments scheduled. The food is better than most restaurants! And the servers are all helpful. I must say that I feel very good about my aunt moving to a place where the entire team is so caring!

My mom has Alzheimer's and can't speak for herself. A relative of mine stoped by to refill my mom's daily meds and when they gave her my mom's pillbox, it was completely full. They were not giving her any of her meds. Also, my mom can only eat puree food and they just left regular food in front of her, that's why she was losing weight. We were shocked by this and immediately took her out of there. Our advice, always make spot checks to see how your family member is being treated.

This is a long review but hope that it will provide some balanced info as you consider your…read moreoptions. Our loved one was a long-time resident of Goddard House (GH). They entered as an alert and mobile resident. GH promises "you can age in place" but our loved one was forced out as they required more care in spite of the fact that fellow residents were wheel chair restricted and required all sorts of care. Our family was willing to provide 24/7 private care but still we were told we had to leave. GH is a non-profit with volunteer board that is supposed to oversee the organization. There are no terms of office for these trustees; they serve year after year, including the board chair who hired a for-profit management company, SLR which brought tensions. SLR yanked long-standing, resident-focused policies such as financial rent assistance if family paid in full for three years. Policy is gone. However, the board chair requested the admission of at least one resident with full financial assistance at the outset because this person was a friend of hers. There were four changes of Executive Director in the time we were there and at least as much as head chef in the kitchen and head of resident care/nursing. I do not believe there is an R.N. on staff. The facility is outdated. Several bathroom resident falls occurred due to outdated bathroom design. Apartment bathrooms are being updated now as residents vacate but it does not help families whose loved ones fell. Additionally, carpets on 2nd and 3rd floors are original to construction! Yet, the board sits on a hefty quasi-endowment and does nothing. Lastly, the organization was slow to respond to a gastrointestinal virus that initiated in their kitchen and spread throughout the community. Goddard is terrific for a resident who is independent, mobile and requires little care. Brookline is a great location because of its proximity to academic medicine, but if your loved one requires additional care as they age, you may need to leave GH or you might be one of the fortunate ones to be allowed to stay.

He has been a patient/resident at 5 prior facilities before going to Newbridge. Although the care for people like my brother is not easy or perfect, the staff at Newbridge provides excellent care and medical treatment second to none.Patients fortunate enough to be there get personalized attention. Located on Centre Street in Roslindale, part of Boston, they are down the street from Faulkner Hospital, on the other side of the street. There is ample free parking.

Her leadership is driving the facility downhill, and her behavior is utterly unprofessional. "R" is extremely difficult to reach and only responds when I include other directors in emails. I've witnessed her screaming at the activities director in front of patients and visitors, which is unacceptable. Her rudeness is matched by her staff, who seem to mirror her negative attitude. "Z" at the front desk, I've overheard her speaking poorly about other staff members and caught her and her team lying about my loved ones. Despite numerous complaints to other directors, no action has been taken, leading me to believe that Rose's influence is so strong that no one dares to address her behavior.

Sophia Snow Independent Living…read more To be closer to family, our elderly parents moved into Sophia Snow Independent Living from Long Island, New York. Though initially hesitant about the move, they fell in love with their apartment, and quickly experienced how the environment and supports afforded by Sophia Snow permitted them to retain their independence and interests longer, and more safely, than they could continue to manage on their own. Their unit was lovely, with wonderful light from large windows that overlooked a pond and wooded area.  Mother, an artist, especially enjoyed this and they both appreciated the changing seasons view from these windows.   The supports and activities available through Sophia Snow were also very welcome.  Dad had been quite negative about giving up his car and driving, though it was clear that the time had come for him to surrender his keys.  Once he started to use the van service available to residents through Sophia Snow, he stopped objecting and driving became a non-issue.  Attention by staff to their individual interests was also evident.  Early on when it was learned that Mother was an artist and the artwork in their apartment was hers, these works were included in an art show put on for the community.  For Mother and Dad, and for our family, their moving into Sophia Snow Independent living proved to be an excellent choice.

When we talked to the people in charge they informed us it was probably a member of the family who took it for safekeeping. They have never had those types of problems! REALLY, Then explain why every one of the residences wears ALL their jewelry to the dining room each meal. Just wish we had caught on earlier or someone had warned us! So here is your warning! If you are looking for a home for your loved one, the care is ok, don't bring anything of value to the place! The Sherrill House in Jamaica plain is where you want your loved one! They took a genuine interest in my goals and plotted continually towards my success. I felt empowered to test my limits within the confines of safety. The food was good. Visitors were impressed when they came by. I was assigned an incredible doctor who was very knowledgeable with years of practice under her belt. Despite the cultural pitfalls of the general lack of privacy one must endure to survive a nursing facility, the staff really did the work to try to make things go as smoothly as possible. It was clean. No bugs or rodents. I never had anything stolen. I would definitely recommend Sherrill House.
