I cannot say enough amazing things about my visit here. I am a huge fan of Jim Henson's work, and when I saw this place online, I knew I had to visit. They have the world's largest collection of Jim Henson puppets, and it was so cool to see them in person. The tickets are very affordable, and they offer free parking outside the building. Besides the Jim Henson exhibit, it was so cool to see all of the other puppets they have on display. Even if you don't know much about puppetry, I think you would enjoy this museum. They also have live performances here, but they did not have any scheduled during our visit. I would love to return in the future to see a performance. read more

Came to visit the museum and learned so much about puppetry! We started in the exhibit about puppetry around the world, and it was so interesting to learn about puppets from so many cultures. There were also some pop culture puppets in here like Salem the cat from Sabrina, and Lamb Chop! Next we learned about Jim Hensen and got to see many puppets created by him and his company, including Sesame Street, Muppets, and other TV shows and movies. We ended in their temporary exhibit which focused on the people he worked closely with, and had more puppets on display including a Miss Piggy. There were also a few interactive exhibits. This was close to a religious experience for me. If you grew up watching the work of Jim Henson, this is an absolute must do. The exhibition space is broken into three main sections. The section on the far left was what I came for, the Jim Henson section. Some of the items here are from more "recent" usage, but there are also some that are originals dating back decades. You're going to see things from Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, Emmitt Otter, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, etc. The Dark Crystal pieces specifically just took my breath away. What a thrill to be able to be so close to them and study all the intricate detail that was put into making them. I absolutely loved this, and this was worth the admission to me alone. The middle section has a fascinating collection of puppetry from around the world and throughout time. Ranging from really ancient to Slimer from Ghostbusters. And the section on the right more space devoted to Muppet performers and puppets. They put on performances here, which I am interested in investigating later, but at the time of my visit, I did not take part in. What I saw alone was more than enough to feel that I got my moneys worth out of the admission cost. I'm so glad I made time for this.` read more

We came for a puppet show and were rewarded with a full day of fun and learning!!! Love the museum's scavenger hunt and interactive exhibits. We could have spent hours more if we had only allowed more time. The performance was TOP NOTCH and we appreciated the technical teaching moment afterward. We had not planned to stay for the puppet workshop but the kids were having way too much fun to leave, so we managed to postpone an appointment so they could enjoy a little longer. Still, I thought the grab and go option for building their own puppet was a very thoughtful touch. Staff was fantastic; so welcoming and helpful! I was here a couple of days ago and stumbled upon this place by accident while I was walking down the street. I did a quick internet search and saw that they have a couple of exhibits on the works of Jim Henson so I went inside to look around. This week they had a discounted entry fee of only $10 which included access to the exhibits and a ticket to the new puppet show : Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type. I found out later that the admission is usually much higher and the exhibit and show tickets are separate, but since this was the debut week for the new puppet show, all tickets were reduced to $10. I could barely hear the staff member at the admissions window because it had one of those speaker things embedded in the window to communicate but it was broken or something because the staff members words were very garbled. I said I only wanted a ticket to the museum and that's when they mentioned the sale happening this week but I didn't hear the part where they mentioned the puppet show. Then they asked for my name and I was confused because why would they need it? When I asked about it, the staff member said it was for demographics or something about repeat visitors and also for ticket refunds or rescheduled visits. Honestly it all sounded like excuses just to get my personal info. Then the staff member awkwardly said I didn't have to give my name but they kept looking at their coworker sitting next to them who I just noticed had been glaring at me during the entire exchange. After I got my tickets I went to the entrance and a friendly staff member asked if I was here for the show. I said I was here only for the exhibits but when they pointed out my show ticket, I said I got it from the sale or whatever. I wasn't interested in the show because it was for little kids but the staff member said it was fine and everyone is welcome and I'd have plenty of time to look around the exhibits. Then I noticed another staff member glaring at me while I was talking to this person. Maybe the staff thought it was a little weird that an adult male was here by themselves but I wasn't here to bother anyone and I just wanted to look at the exhibits. But I had the ticket for the show and at the encouragement of the staff, I went in anyway. I sat in the middle of the theatre and for what it's worth, it was a nice performance. The performers were great and a lot of care went into the production. No photos or videos were allowed. The show was about an hour long. Afterwards the performers showed some of the behind the scenes about how the effects were done, mostly to the benefit of the kids in attendance. After the show I finally looked around the exhibits. I'm a big fan of Jim Henson's creations so seeing the actual puppets from The Muppets, Sesame Street, The Dark Crystal, Fraggle Rock, among others, was very enjoyable. The main exhibit gallery has two sections - one for Jim Henson's work and one for puppetry around the world. The Jim Henson gallery makes a loop so you end where you start but the world puppetry hits a dead end so you have to go back the way you entered. The smaller exhibit gallery was a dark room and it focused on Jim Henson's associates and their time working with him and his studio during the early years. These were personal displays about talented people in a creative field. Including the show, I was here for about two and a half hours. I got the impression that most visitors go here for the shows because once it ended, the place cleared out pretty quickly. Some groups went into the museum galleries but they didn't stay long. I was the only guest in the exhibits for the longest time. My advice if you plan to visit - bring someone with you. I didn't take it personally, but it was very obvious that adults visiting alone are viewed with some amount of suspicion. read more

I think the best audience are Gen X who grew up on Jim Henson. Sesame Street, The Dark Crystal and the Muppet Show were all on display. There's a puppet theater which has good shows. read more

Wonderful small museum! You have options to see only the museum or also see a live puppet show as well. We chose to go only to the displays. The museum's permanent display is basically divided in two halves -- Jim Henson and the rest of the world. Seems about fair. The Jim Henson portion is replete with the history of his efforts, the real deal puppets from the Muppets and Sesame Street, some credit given to things like The Cube and his movies (Labyrinth, Pigs in Space, The Muppet Movies, etc.) and Fraggle Rock. The other half of the exhibits explores the history of puppetry, with audio visual displays and the real deal puppets as well, ranging from Kookla, Fran, and Ollie to Charlie McCarthy to older Asian and African exhibits to MST 3000. Some of it is interactive, most is look but don't touch. A lot of fun! Also included is a temporary exhibit of a featured puppeteer. It was nice, but not as memorable. The price is okay, not cheap. They are obviously dependent on entry fees rather than grants for PBS or something. It took a good hour to 90 minutes to walk through leisurely. I really recommend this if you need a quiet afternoon in Atlanta. read more

Cute museum and probably the only attraction in Atlanta with free parking. It's small inside even thought they have a second floor they said nothing was up there so it was the two exhibit, the permanent one /with Jim Hensen and then the limited time on on Fraggle Rock, which was very nostalgic. I thought it would have more of the Muppets and sesame street characters but it was a couple puppets from each show. They also had some older ones from other countries from other artists and even Salem the cat from Sabrina the Teenage Witch. You could spend probably an hour. It was a cute thing to do, especially on a rainy Saturday. read more

Fun spot! Lots of love toward the genius of Jim Henson. I loved the Fraggle exhibit but was very disappointed by the tiny amount of Emmitt Otter (best christmas movie EVER! Fight me...) stuff in-house. The lush history of puppetry exhibit goes way back but also has Chuckie and Madame. Gift shop was cute, but I was hoping for some Henson tied in with the museum related clothing. I would have bought a hoodie or T-shirt for sure. I would be cautious about bringing young children. I am not sure the place is interactive enough, but at the same time, it could spark ideas for an artistic kid. read more

I am a huge Muppets fan, so when I was in Atlanta for a weekend this caught my attention right away. The Jim Henson exhibit was incredible, but we were pleasantly surprised by the other permanent exhibit-- there were a lot of things we didn't necessarily realize were puppets, and it was a great learning experience for us. This is definitely a great place to take kids, but it's great for adults too. I haven't been in years because my children are older now, but I had a blast here for a private evening event. The exhibits are so informative and interesting. The space is definitely kid-friendly, but you don't feel like it's a ball pit at a restaurant because there is something for everyone here. They host workshops, puppet shows, but they also teach you about puppeteering and that was more interesting than I thought it was going to be. I can not wait to come back for a puppet show and to bring some friends with me. The parking lot is not super huge, but it has more than enough space for cars and buses for school groups. The space has been here for a number of years, but it is not showing obvious signs of disrepair. They have done a good job keeping this building up and looking good. If you haven't been here, please take a few hours and go one day; especially if you have small/young children. You won't be disappointed. read more

Had a nice visit taking our toddler and 4th grader. Loved the exhibits that talked about the history of puppetry and had examples from all over the world. The Jim Henson exhibit was great. Pretty cool getting to see Sesame Street characters so up close! The puppet show we saw was Charlotte's Web and they did a fantastic job. Afterwards, the kids were able to make their own shadow puppets to take hope. I recommend getting tickets in advance if you want to go to a puppet show. Seems like they sell out often because of school field trips. We had no problem finding a spot to park in their parking lot in the back of their building on a weekday. read more

My mom and I had a wonderful time here learning about puppets, of course, including the history of it and the evolution of the muppets themselves. We found the museum to be well thought out with plenty of interactive and display puppets lined along the walls. It was also very intuitive with the direction they anticipate people to view everything. Overall, we had a great experience especially with the private parking lot directly behind the building that also leads into the entrance way. There is even a small and cute gift shop to buy a souvenir of your likings. I would love to come again and get trapped into the commercials and clips of shows they have running on loop. read more

I took my grand daughter here to see " Stellaluna" . We loved it!! Free parking. Friendly staff. The play was very well done and the puppeteers were very talented. After the play we participated in the craft activity. The museum was really good. I wish that we had allowed more time prior to the show as my grand daughter wanted to take time and explore each exhibit. I can't wait for another visit. read more

Been here twice now and it's been 10/10! The Sesame Street musical is so good! My 1.5 year old loved it! It's a little expensive if you want to sit in the front seats; which is what we did both times. The museum walk thru after is pretty cool too! Lots of cool stuff from some of my favorite movies! I thought this place was very different. I've never been to a Puppet museum or anything even sort of like that. The Jim Henson exhibit was, of course, great but honestly... that's pretty much it. The museum is very small and I thought for the size of the museum, tickets should be cheaper. We were in and out in about 30-45 minutes. They could easily add a display for Broadway shows... they did have some Lion King stuff but you can even add War Horse, Avenue Q, etc. I know they had a Rankin Bass exhibit at one point during the Holidays which I wish I could have seen. Overall, it was just okay. I wouldn't come back but if you are in the area and want something quick to do, it's worth checking out once. read more

So my husband really wanted to visit this place. I remember that Dekalb County Library offers a pass that'll allow up to four people to enter the museum for free. Saved us 30 dollars total. After checking in, we walked through the main exhibit which displays various puppets ranging from movies to tv like Sesame Street. Across the way was a special exhibit displaying The Dark Crystal characters. We were in and out in about 30 minutes. Thought place would be bigger, but can't complain since I didn't spend a dime for entry. For an extra fee, you can watch a puppet show. Definitely recommend if you're a big Jim Henson fan. Their largest collection is the creations of Jim Henson's studio.. just that makes this place worth visiting! It highlights his major creations and projects from the beginning of his career to late in his career.. and they recreated his workshop.. as well as have a large amount of the actual puppets they they used in these productions. Not only that .. but it also includes his boards, designs, sketches, as well as his notes. They also have examples of puppets from various cultures across the world and broadway productions. I never new just how intricate these puppets are.. as well as the massive amounts of artistry that goes into creating them. read more

Really a great place to take your kids. The puppeteers do an excellent job and at the end they even give some behind the scenes info. After the show you can go upstairs and make your own puppet. Everyone is really nice and you would really enjoy your time here. There is a puppet museum but you can skip it unless out have older kids closer to the teenage years.
