I had no idea this hockey rink was here in Ontario. I didn't skate or play hockey here today, but watched my buddy's son's scrimmage. Small parking lot, but plenty of parking on the street and I think there is also parking in the parking structure next to the parking lot. I'm not too sure about prices or activities like stick time or public skating, but I give it 4 stars if you're just here to watch a hockey game or practice. Ice looked pretty decent, place is pretty clean, and it's a pretty cool vantage point to watch from the balcony area upstairs. A little too far from my house, but good to know this place is here in case I ever want to come back and play or skate. read more

Great place to practice! I love this place! Of all the skating rinks I've been to, this one has consistently been my favorite. From the size of the rink, the feel of the ice, and the usual smaller crowds, there is little to complain about. If you are a beginner level skater, you have much to gain learning to skate here. Yet, If you do not have your own skates, the biggest complaint would probably be the skate rentals. I personally learned to skate here and have always used rentals, so I personally do not have any problems with the skates here. Ignorance is bliss sometimes. My only real complaint about Center Ice is the lack of music choice they play over the speakers. This place would be bumpin more if they could take music requests and perhaps do a little of what some rinks do. The best recommendation when visiting, bring your own music and your headphones and perhaps some hot chocolate in a small thermos. read more

The figure skating club there has made public skating there so unsafe. Kids are skating against the flow spinning with their blades high with little regard for the kids there just having fun. and the figure skating coaches out there couldn't care less. There are no guards to uphold safety and when out there they are just socializing. I take my grandkids to riverside now where they have a safety standard during their public sessions. This rink is newer than the ontario rink nearby. It's very nice, the ice area is large. The prices are a little higher than the other rink nearby but the place is newer and bigger. I like that they are open til 10 on the weekends. A lot of professional skaters come here. The only thing that I found a little annoying is that they played the music on and off during the skate sessions when the coaches are practicing with their performers, repeating the same songs over and over, not sure if it was just that day or if this is a regular thing. I'm sure that's a big part of their business so I understand. However I had wished I brought my own AirPods that day. read more

Checked the schedule for Public Skate on their website. Drove 30 minutes and arrived at the scheduled time, only to find an empty parking lot and a paper sign on the door that read "We are Closed". Double checked the schedule and yes was there at the right time. Don't waste people's time and gas money by not updating and letting people know you canceled the session. read more

Pretty well maintained and solid ice for its age. The issue is the hours. Was the only rink with posted night hours in the general area from our house. So we drive 45 mins to get there having JUST checked their website. "Hey heads up we've been slow today so we are closing an hour early". No discount, no advanced warning posted online or on the website. Imagine if a retail store or food establishment did this. Seems very unfair to paying customers. I'd take consistency of business operations over much else any day. Checked the website again, still no change to the hours. Makes me wonder if the employees behind the counter get to decide when to mess with the customers, or if the owners don't care about new guests coming back. The rink is very well maintained and is kept at an excellent cold temperature. The bathrooms are spotless and the parking lot is accessible. Five stars for that. But more importantly, I want to take this opportunity to give TEN STARS to figure skating coach ALEX TRIEU. Coach Alex was recommended by my son's head coach to work on his skating skills. We have hired him since he worked in Riverside. For many years, he has been a consummate professional and delivers excellent work. He will not accept your money unless he can deliver results. His standards have always been world class as well. Since working with Coach Alex, my kid had a lot more flow in skating. Alex takes technique very seriously and references elite skaters in his lessons so that his students have an aspirational understanding of the sport. He comprehends the theory and methodology behind skating which is rare for a young coach. I've seen my share of coaches and I know the difference. More importantly, he respects his skaters and abides by all rules of safety and propriety. Again, a professional in every way who respects students and parents alike and encourages sportsmanlike behavior in his skaters. There has been, of late, a mean girls epidemic among skaters which he and his associates choose to discourage among their students. I respect this very much. When my child's skates touch the ice for a lesson with Alex, not a minute is wasted. His methods are substantial and enduring because he himself was an accomplished competitor. He was a big part of the team that got my son qualified for Excel Nationals in Colorado Springs this past year. Our family is so grateful to him. read more

I've been to this ice skating rink three times. I really like the area and it's not too crowded compared to other ice skating rinks. The public skating on Saturday was from 2:30pm to 10:00pm (may vary so make sure to check the website for public skating times or call ahead of time). Since there were not a lot of people, there was a lot of space to freely skate. There weren't people crowding the rails if they weren't comfortable skating. read more

I came to skating school last December and had an amazing time! I believe Alexander was the main instructor and he was very helpful. There were only 3 students total in the class so we all got a lot of 1-on-1 time and the student to teacher ratio was 1:1 as well. I felt very well looked after. However, being in my mid twenties, I wish they offered adult classes. The other 2 students in class looked to be about middle school aged. I would feel a lot more comfortable learning with other people my age, and I think adult lessons are definitely in demand! I hope this rink is able to offer them in the near future :) Another reason why I wish there were adult classes is because when I arrived for my first lesson, the woman who checked me in looked VERY confused as to why I was signing up. She did not speak in a welcoming tone at all and it turned me off a little bit from attending classes here. She looked me up and down as if she was expecting a younger kid to pop out from behind me. I already felt out of place since I'm older, and she definitely didn't do anything to help mitigate that feeling. It's a shame because the ice here is insanely well-maintained (opposed to the other rink down the street), and I would love to come back for lessons but the other rink has adult sessions which I feel more comfortable in despite the ice being less smooth. read more

I was playing in the adult league and found out that majority of these guys play like they are trying to get into the NHL. It is rediculous, I'm all for playing ice hockey but at my age now it's about skill not checking. Furthermore, my team left here and went to Riverside Ice Town. There needs to be a a system in place that throws out these assholes who want to play rough and try to hurt others. We are grown men and hope most have jobs that they have to go to and can't if they are getting hurt all because some asshole wants to check you or play rough because they do not have any skill to play correctly, or they have anger issues that they have not addressed yet. read more

Time for one of those reviews that completely reflects the level of service you get when you pay for a playing at Center Ice. In the over 10 years I've been playing at this rink, tonight might've been the grossest and most ignorant moment of playing here. There 12 seconds left in the game and the scorekeeper does not start the clock because he's been busy on his phone the entire game. Lies. And we end up losing the game because their employee can't be bothered to look up from his phone when he should be doing his job. I'd like to say that mentioning anything to the league director would do anything, however I feel like we are paid only lipservice rather than any real action. I do totally understand that it is adult hockey, however but when you pay money for a service you would expect someone who has one job to push a button for start and stop to be able to manage that job 42 mins at a time. read more

Don't plan on having an accurate skating experience here if you are in need of renting skates. Currently trying to skate on the dullest pair of rentals I have ever been on. When I asked the attendant for a new pair and explained the problem he agreed with me and then informed me they haven't sharpened their skates in "two years". Went to this rink for the first time today. The ice surface is a good size and fairly well maintained, but they don't appear to resurface between the last freestyle session and the start of the public session, so it gets really choppy really fast during the public session. This rink also runs very cold compared to others, so dress accordingly! It's a tad more expensive than the other rink in Ontario, but the bathroom is marginally cleaner so pick your poison. I had brought my own skates, but my kids used the rentals and it was rough going. We had to exchange one pair because there was literally just 2 out of 6 books that were still on the boot; there was no way to safely wear that skate. Anther pair had to be exchanged because they were laced improperly and couldn't be relaced because the ends of the lace were broken. Fortunately, the man at the rental booth was the one nice employee we encountered while there. He was helpful and friendly. The same can't be said for the front desk staff, who seemed genuinely bothered, that they had to deal with customers. No greeting, no knowledge of services advertised, and uninterested in answering any questions. Also, they no longer do birthday parties, which is probably a good thing considering the lack of hospitality. read more

I went to the other rink (Ontario Ice Skating Center) a few months ago, and it was NOTHING like this one. The staff were rude to me and my family and the ice was choppy. I tried to respectfully tell the manager about the staff's behavior, but he was even ruder than the staff. I asked for a refund, but he will not give any. To be quite honest, I will rate this place 3/5. My family and I visited on 12/28/22. The prices were decent. Bathrooms were gross and needed to be cleaned. The amount of skates available were slim to none. There was a Caucasian teen running the skate rental booth who had absolutely no business working there. I said hi to him TWICE and he completely ignored me. He was so rude, couldn't even speak to paying customers, didn't look or act as if he wanted to be there and gave the impression he was under the influence of some sort. Another employee had to take over and thank goodness there was someone there with basic manners and hospitality. Just a heads up, this an environment where children are present. Be professional. The place was exceptional due to it being the most local ice skating rink around and their hours were extended, I'm assuming for the holiday. read more

Super fun spot! Gets super cold (duh), but they have an area that helps a tad bit. Workers are friendly and the arena in clean and friendly.

As mentioned by other reviewers, the rental skates are in terrible condition; you won't be able to skate in them as they are uneven/slanted and are not sharpened. Also the ice was not resurfaced and was very choppy. $82 later, left with three disappointed kids in less than an hour of being there (and half of that time was putting the skates on). Had a much better experience at LA Kings Icetown in Riverside. Employees were understanding and seem to acknowledge it is a problem but that new skates were ordered. read more

The Center Ice Skating Arena doesn't care about you or your family as its COVID-19 policy (as stated in its website) is nothing more than lip service to the finger it's raising against public health. The employees (front desk, rentals and instructors) actively violates the rink's policy of wearing a face mask by not wearing them whatsoever and they, of course, fail to enforce the policy on guests who don't wear them in the rink. If you aren't going to enforce a COVID-19 policy, why have it at all? Either management doesn't care or is in denial. Get a grip and show some pride and leadership in your business and to the community you serve. read more

Nice skating rink. Food and snack area needs major improvements...first get rid of all the people in there that are just hanging out bc it's too cold in the rink. Come on you post a sign that says no outside food or drinks and when I pay 300% over retail for a hotdog I have nowhere to sit? But the family that got the $5 pizza from LC can take up 3 benches. They need to offer a better menu selection. Hire a cook. Forget the hotdog and frozen foods in the microwave. Lastly, they need to fire the guy that works there. No customer service whatsoever. Walk up and he just stares. Too robotic and surely doesn't want to be there. They might as well install vending machines and 3 microwaves. I'd still get the same food and service. I had the pleasure of being asked by my daughter to take her and bestie to a ice rink. I'm not sure why I've never set foot in a place like this but I found it to be a very happy place. I had no idea how popular a skating rink could be on a Friday night. This location serves many other purposes like competitive hockey, skating teams, private lessons and of course in the evening it's open to the public. Very simple process by paying your cover (bring your own equipment) or pay the extra cost to include rental. No waiver required or asked of your experience. Get your color bracelet and you're off. Everyone is allowed access on the floor and can observe from a safe distance. It's pretty much casual and all skaters basically go in one direction but no one is obligated to follow the flow. All levels from first timer to experienced. Lot's of groups side by side, couples, one on one casual training and I even saw like this 4 year old standing firm on her own mostly in the center rink holding her ground. Apparently staff must have cameras observing closely because a few announcements were made pertaining to safety and reminding public of house rules. Lot's of seating area for spectators on rink level and upper section has a few bleachers or you can lean on safety rail. Concession stand was closed but you can still access space if you get too cold and read a book or just relax. They also have a small retail shop that sells misc clothing and equipment. Public restroom and a good variety of vending machines. Free parking and well lit at night. I'm definitely coming back and trying this out. We recently visited this location and was VERY disappointed. The staff didn't seem to pay us any attention - didn't even ask if we needed any help. They just ignored us and then when they finally did acknowledge our presence it was as if we inconvenienced them. Guess addressing questions by customers isn't part of their job responsibilities. I tried to give this place a chance but unfortunately how we were treated we decided to take our business elsewhere. Such a disservice to the city of Ontario. read more

It's funny, I've been to many hockey games, and I've always come prepared, long sleeve, hoodie, etc. What was I thinking when we brought the kiddies in here ridiculously under-prepared?! It was freeeezing! "Shoulda, coulda, woulda" anecdote aside, we all thoroughly enjoyed our trip to center ice. I wish they had more public hours, but hey, we enjoyed the hour and a half we spent there. You're looking at spending $10/ person which includes your choice of figure or hockey skates. The rink seems maintained well, and the people that come here are all polite. There's a snackbar for some of you who would rather not bear the cold, or bruising your behind. Ever since watching "The Mighty Ducks" in my primordial youth, I always pictured ice rinks to be decorative, inviting, and uber cool (both literally and metaphorically). Kids would be all over the ice, and all the teenagers in know would be chilling all about the place like strewn Christmas lights in December. Alas, that vision is almost never true, especially in California. Instead, most ice skating rinks could be thought of as death traps for meandering little children for pedophiles. NOT THAT THIS PLACE IS THAT. I'm just digressing. Where was I? Oh yeah. Past the babble above, Center Ice is a nice, clean skating rink found in Ontario off Holt. However, don't get this confused with the ghetto-er ice rink found further down the road. Instead, this place is only semi-ghetto. DECO The place is clean and white, with banners of winning hockey teams against the brick white walls and space grade aluminum foil ceiling. The red, white, & blue hangs proudly adjacent to the Canadian red & white on one wall, a true dedication of where hockey came from. Besides what I mentioned, the place is pretty much like any typical ice rink. It has ice. In a rink. With benches on the side to sit. The front entrance is nice and inviting, and the location is generally clean. But besides that, white is really the only color you'll see inside. CROWD The crowd is interesting. Mind you, this is just what I saw that night so this is not an accurate demographic to what the place usually has. I went on a Tuesday night and the place had moms & their kids, a few adult couples, and then groups of teenagers. Yes, I guess teenagers actually inhabit ice rinks. This was a bit of a shock to me. Who would have thought in the middle of Ontario teenagers would be inclined to go ice skating? And they weren't even the awkward type. They were the brash, cocky kids you see in all high schools. With that said, they are the ones to watch out for while skating. Whether a novice or seasoned skater, you know it only takes one bump to fall...in complete embarrassment. You are warned! PRICE The pricing is good. $8 to skate and $2 to rent skates. I can't remember what other rink prices are like (I haven't gone ice skating since I was in high school and that was quite some time), but I think $10 for skating is pretty fair. One of the cheaper things you can do in an evening with a thin pocketbook. WARNING The ice here was a bit choppy because of how many people were skating that night. It didn't seem like they even wanted to bother to smooth it out with the Zamboni, but maybe it was just an off night. CONCLUSION Center Ice Skating Arena is a white, barren wonderland to the eyes in the middle of Ontario. Yet, even though the inside is colder than the outside, the place is a nice, safe area to skate with friends and family. Just ignore the digression I had at top. Was really disappointed that the online hours were posted 6am--10pm, called to verify considering today is New Years and was told closing was still at 10pm. Arrived at 6:30pm to only get turned away. The gentleman working said the facility closed at 7pm. My son just started hockey through the little kings program here. We opted to do the clinic with Empire Hockey and he has already shown progress. The rink looks nice from the outside. Although the facility isn't very huge. The snack bar hasn't been open during the times that we have been there, maybe it's only open during games. Not sure. We were finally able to take my son yesterday for public skate, and the ice was pretty choppy. I know it's hard to control with lots pf people skating, but there were kids that were kicking at the ice with their skates to make snowballs and throw at each other. Also, there was a kid that was 8 or 9 (skated like a pro) but he kept coming up to my son and stopping in front of him spraying ice all over us. My son is 6 years old and has only been on the ice twice before yesterday. I was getting super frustrated with this kid and there was no sight of any employees watching people on the ice let alone this kids parent. There were also people getting private figure skating lessons, which kind of got in the way of those of us that were trying to public skate. Those sessions should be done during the freestyle time not public skate. We will be back though, we had a fun time regardless of a few rude people and unsupervised kids. read more
