I liked that they played a lot of 80s music, Michael Jackson, Forest Frank (for bday girl). No nasty or inappropriate songs/lyrics played which I appreciated sooooo much. They have both blades and 4wheel skates that can be rented. Now the place is dated but that's the vibe I'm looking for in a skating rink and if it keeps the prices down that is cool. So my only gripe is that they charge admission for non-skaters at the same price as skaters. I don't understand this, like if grandma wants to take grandkids to skate and she doesn't want to participate you're really charging her same price minus skate rental? I get that fire marshall puts a restriction on people capacity and maybe that's why they do this but honestly the business should consider making adults free or just a buck or two WITH a paid child admission and IF not skating as well. A little too far from my house, but good to know this place is here in case I ever want to come back and play or skate.

After reporting sexual misconduct with one of their contracted learn to skate coaches who teaches private lessons, along with evidence, I was sent this by the skating director: -------- "Because the concerns described involve interactions between a private coach and a private student outside of an employment relationship with the rink, any remedies or claims would generally need to be pursued by the individuals involved, as private citizens. That said, we want you to know that you are welcome at the rink, and we sincerely hope you will continue skating with us. Our goal is for everyone who comes to the rink to feel safe and respected, and we would be happy to see you back on the ice. Thank you again for bringing your concerns to our attention, and I apologize again for the delay in my response. Sincerely, [redacted] | Skating Director" -------- This was concerning for me, not just for my sake, but for future students as well who seek to report and be heard. It should be noted that coaches may never try to engage with their students sexually under any conditions, even if they are a contracted coach and in private lesson. Some ways for improvement: 1) Have management educated accurately on SafeSport, Code of Ethics, Tenets of Professionalism, and SafeSkate guidelines. 2) Prioritizing the safety of all skaters first over and above the rink's finances or reputation. 3) Management should respond to issues or urgent emails within 72 hours. (It took the director + management 1 month to give the response above). Finally, Pasadena puts up very cute decorations to celebrate Halloween and Christmas time.

Would love more upbeat music. **My brother did say there was no doors in the men's bathroom... like at all, every stall is open. I'm not sure the reason for that but it seemed pretty unsafe. I am doing so in the hopes that the owner sees this and takes the leap to modernize their tired dated and threadbare programs and reinstall the water-fountain they ripped out during COVID. After several skate sessions there over the recent months, I have come to the conclusion that the only reason Moonlight Rollerway continues to stay in business with it's incredibly outdated music, moribund skate night formats, and rigid inhospitable policies, is because nothing else in Los Angeles has come along to replace it. And should that ever happen, if this business does not change, it will be forced out of business. Tonight I paid $25 to go to Rainbow Skate which is usually oversaturated with tired old music much of which has disappearing relevance to modern culture. Some old songs are great but when 1970s songs take up 80% of the 2026 music program, there is a big fat glaring problem afoot. Up until the last couple of weeks, they have had a music request sheet so skaters can alert the fully geriatric DJs of newer music that will resonate with patrons under 60. The DJs even play some of it sometimes. However for the past two weeks they have intentionally failed to provide a music request sheet. Tonight, I was so irritated by this, I have decided to use this review a springboard to call them out on other trespasses that have affected me there. This evening, shortly after the facility opened, I asked the DJ who was well over 70 years of age if I could make a music request and I was told "a little later"... By the time I left early at 10.15 ($25 session lasts until 11 and I usually like to stay until the end), there was never a request sheet furnished and this selfish deaths-doorstep tone-deaf DJ just spent the entire evening playing exactly what he felt like playing, the overwhelming majority of it originally released between 1974 and 1980. Meanwhile, no athletic young person remained in the rink past 9.47pm. I have noticed this pattern over and over and over and over again over the years I have been coming here. Young skaters get annoyed with the lack of modern music, take their skates off between 9pm and 9.30 and leave. And they do not return. I am astonished that the owners and managers do not see it!!!!! I will also take this opportunity to register a few more complaints. 1/ Half of the pay lockers do not work. These lockers eat quarters and dont provide the key more than 50% of the time so you have to spend 50 cents more on a locker with a working mechanism. 2/ The vending machines do not give correct change always erring on the side of the facility which has motivated me to avoid using them. 3/ No water fountain. What the hell are these owners and managers thinking? People are physically exerting themselves and get thirsty. I think it is in very poor faith, exceedingly poor judgment, and stinks of myopic penny wise and dollar foolish greed that they do not provide a water fountain for their patrons forcing thirsty exercising people to spend $4 on a bottle of water (maybe $5 because the vending machines rarely give correct or any change) I have been forced to conclude that the management of this facility must truly believe that since there are no other roller rinks in Los Angeles, they can abuse the public with old crappy music that is picking up velocity in its decreasing relevance, foisting recalcitrant geriatric DJs on unsuspecting skaters who have bought expensive skating rink ticket in good faith. Somebody has to tell them so it may as well be me: These DJs should be going to bingo at Shady Pines instead of lording over a rollerskating rink DJ booth torturing the public with a massive oversupply of tired threadbare 1970s music. OMFG! I have tried and tried and tried and tried so hard to like this place but tonight this ancient hunched over DJ who could barely walk, did not even offer so much as a music request clipboard and this is the main reason I am publishing this clearinghouse of grievances with Moonlight Rollerway. Roller skating is supposed to be fun and energized but these deaf and blind senior citizens that so often control the DJ booth are exceedingly out of touch with EVERY Moonlight Rollerway patron under the age of 45... And in my estimation, once 80% those people patronize Moonlight Rollerway once, THEY NEVER COME BACK. As it works out, millenial and gen z patrons don't like spending $25 to hear music their Great Aunt Eunice plays during her jazzercise class. As my very wise grandmother once said, nothing wilts faster than a laurel that has been rested on and this sums up my current opinion of Moonlight Rollerway. You guys have serious work to do.

They are right outside the rink so parking and walking over was super convenient. The parking has a limit of 90 minutes which is the same amount of time for one skating session so that worked out perfectly. There was also a parking lot nearby but I didn't wander over there. The inside of the facility is huge as well as the ice rink itself. I had registered online ahead of time, so I just had to give them my name at the check in counter. The rental skates are right next to the check in and u just told them my size. I should have gotten half a size smaller than my sneaker size for a snug fit. It's also better to wear thicker socks for a more comfortable wear since the skates can be quite stiff. There are benches to sit and change into the skates. Inside the rink there are benches and locker too (need two quarters). I left my shoes under the bench in the main lobby area and it was fine. One of the skates had wet shoelaces which I thought was weird, but other than that the skates were nice and clean. The inside of the rink area was quite cold so I'm glad I brought gloves. There were more people than I expected. (More than the website was showing how many people registered.) Despite the number of people, there was still a lot of space on the ice. The ice wasn't too bad, but I wish it was smoother. Over time, it got rougher from all the people skating. There were some tiny chips/dips in the ice too, which isn't very safe to skate over. Skating over them caused me to lose balance for a quick second. Thankfully no falls. I wish they would smooth it out at least once during the session. It's quite loud on the ice and hard to talk. The bench area was fine though.

I go way back with Gil, even into the ice hockey days. Brian and Gil are both really neat guys. It was really cool when they were able to add the roof and the side covers so roller hockey would almost never be interrupted due to inclement weather. They have a good number of heavy duty fans that keep the place at a decent playing temperature even when it's hot outside. So, I retired from roller hockey at 36 years old, which was 14 years ago now. This place has always been my first choice for roller hockey play. For a few years, I even coached the younger kids with my great friend Bill, who is now a Rink manager here for Gil and Brian. From time to time, I come back and visit. I watch my friend Bill play, just watch any games that are going on when I pass by, and I have other friends and even a neighbor that has a son that I came to watch him play. About six years ago, I came back and played a one day tournament to benefit the family of my good friend Wayne that played here as he had passed on. Through the years playing and just being here, it is family that we always are to each other. Here, they have some cool stuff to offer. It is cool to get items from the snack bar when it's open. They have a pro shop where you can get equipment items for all your roller hockey needs. They have sitting and standing areas to watch the roller hockey games. They even have a big screen TV surrounded by three couches that you can watch sporting events on. I am so grateful that this building and CSHA was established and has been here for so many years!!! From the outside of the building, it says JUST PLAY and there are some colorful images of kids playing, but the actual building itself is old, the signs on the door/windows are handwritten, and they operate as cash only. When I let them know I didn't have cash, they directed me to an ATM just inside of the play area entrance, where I was able to see the actual play area. It was very dark, looked unkempt, didn't smell good, and they were playing Ride Wit Me by Nelly, which is definitely not a kid-friendly song! My daughter and I walked out and went to another kid's indoor playground instead. I'm glad I didn't pay online first before seeing it in person.
