At the time of this review they have 3.8 stars. That honestly speaks for itself, but if that aint enough look at all of their comments to negative reviews. Not once do they try to make it right, instead they dip dodge dive and duck their way out of any fault and always shift blame to their customers. That combined with the star rating should be enough to tell you these folks arent the ones you want to do business with. And the icing on the cake they claim that "my cleaning wasnt adaquate thats why my ac still isnt performing like i want it to" no... the plenum after my cleaning is at 55. my vents arent putting out what they should be so the problem is likely either a blower motor or somewhere in the ducts, neither of which were assessed by this company. Look elsewhere. Their business model is designed to put customers in a difficult position: you either pay a significant service call fee or feel pressured into expensive repairs that may not actually be necessary. I waited to write this review because I wanted to research everything I was told before commenting. After doing that research, I found that I paid roughly $700 for work that did not meaningfully improve my system. My A/C still struggles, and none of the issues I called them out for were resolved. One charge on my invoice was listed as "HN13A Voltage Enhancement System Rejuvenation." During the visit, the technician described this to me as essentially "replacing the capacitor." That is not what was actually performed. They also told me my evaporator coil needed to be cleaned and that the only way to accomplish that was to remove the furnace and coil assembly, quoting a repair in excess of $5,000. After researching the issue independently, I learned that my unit can be cleaned in place by removing the access panel. That option was never presented to me. (i just did it myself today) Looking back, it felt like they recognized I wasn't familiar with HVAC systems and recommended the most expensive solutions rather than explaining all available options. Through my own research, I found less expensive alternatives for several of the repairs they proposed. Based on my experience, I won't be using this company again. I spent hundreds of dollars, my original problem was never fixed, and I left feeling that I was sold expensive services instead of receiving actual honest guidance. I'm currently looking for better alternatives. When I posted this review to google they responded with a pretty terse rebuttle so in response to their likely similar rebuttle I'll amend the following My a/c is 5 years old, the furnace is 16, they ignored the age difference in their google rebuttle and tried to lean on the "age of the system" I'm not here to argue with a business but, that alone should give you pause, rather than attempt to make it right they instead opted to shift blame on to the consumer and lied about what they said and billed for, they never "restored power to a system with a failed capacitor" because my capacitor was never failed and they never replaced it like they said they did. I have my invoice and if anyone is curious I'm happy to share it with you to prove my point. IMO you should look elsewhere. read more

Please beware! If I could give negative stars, I would. Do not agree to service before seeing the breakdown, and do not agree to a fixed price quote with this company! We built a house 18 months ago. CenTex Air and Heating installed a furnace and ac unit upon build. The blower motor went out, remember it is 18 months old. CenTex estimates were $1400-$5000 for a repair. We can buy a whole new furnace and ac unit for $5000! The part is covered under warranty, and it is a 2 hour job at most. We started asking questions, and now they won't share the details of their estimates and refuse to do the service. Out of frustration, my husband did raise his voice, but then apologized several times, and shook hands with the technician when he left. We have reported this company to the BBB. read more

Had to use them again ( summer in TEXAS - - I have 3 units on my house) --- another job -- better than expected -- I mean not only they show up ( on time) send great techs who not only TAKE their time - do it right -- I never felt () either time and its been 2x in last 3 months on 2 diff issues - that they are RUSHING or not doing a great job-- 100% I would recommend - you just dont get this quality or service anymore ( its hard and harder to find) so my hats off to them for being consistent - doing great jobs and doing it right ... Heater fan motor burned due to a Bluebonnet COOP power surge. The next morning we woke up to 49'F. Called Centex, at 7:30 am, they were here in 45 minutes and determined the issue. Gave us four different options on repairing the problem. Not cheap, but heat was back by 1:30 that afternoon. You do pay for good, efficient and reliable service. read more

After spending nearly $11,000.00 on new air conditioner and gas heater a year ago - I requested a quote for a mini-split in which they sent me a nasty text saying they didn't want to do business with us anymore - I had returned the furnace filter which they charged me $100 dollars for and I found the same filter online 2 for $100.00 - I guess that pissed them off because I made them look bad - quality and customer relations go hand in hand - I would not recomednd doing business with Centex Mechanical. When our AC broke at the tail end of summer, someone came out the same day we called to inspect the unit. The whole thing was old and had no identifiable serial numbers on it, so we reviewed the quote for a new system. Installation took about 6 hours. Centex offered to bring window AC units to tide us over but it wasn't that hot out so we didn't try it. We had a problem with a drain line and after someone came and checked it, they sent another person out to correct it at no cost. We really appreciated that since we'd bought an entire new unit. read more

Installed entire new system, spent plenty of time explaining all options. Everyone is continually trained and knowledgeable as well as professional. This was the only company that actually diagnosed all the problems and solved them including completely reconfiguring duct work. I've heard rumors that Yelp will get rid of less than favorable reviews for a price and looking at these reviews, I can't help but think that is the case. Only 8 reviews over 5 plus years and every one was a 5 star? I don't think so. One of our air conditioners was freezing up which would then melt which would then leak. Before summer really got into full swing, we thought we would get it checked out. We had an appt for 8am. At 7:38am they called and left a message stating that "something came up" and the tech would be 30 minutes late. I didn't hear the phone as I was getting ready for work. I did notice the message at 7:58 and called them back. When I did, I was told that he actually was not held up and should be there at any time. He finally arrived at 8:47. No contact from the company in the interim. He was a nice enough guy and I don't want to slam him, but he seemed clueless. I had almost zero confidence in anything he told me. Some of the issues: He told me I had a leak and was a little low on freon and that he would need to put freon in at $140-$160/lb and that I would probably need 3 or 4 lbs. I asked him what determined the cost and why there was a difference and he said that he just didn't have the prices memorized, but it was a set price. When he checked, it ended up being about $130/lb. He said a leak test would be $90 something (he gave an exact price, I just don't remember it) He then was explaining that it might be a wasted investment because it could just leak out again. I was a bit confused by this and asked why it would leak out - weren't we doing a leak test? He said that the leak more than likely can't be fixed so I asked why we would do a leak test. He said so that we know where it is leaking from. I asked why do we care where it is leaking from if we can't fix it anyway?! He then said that it might be in the coil and the coil could be replaced. I asked why we would put $400 of freon in without knowing if we could even fix the leak and therefore how much of a wasted investment it would be. Could he not first TEST it for the leak and then, based on the findings, add the freon? After some contemplation, he said "Yeah. We could probably do that." It ended up being the coil. I asked how much to replace and he told me it would be about $3k (or $4k. At this point, I was so frustrated, I didn't remember much.) Of course, this is after he told me about the whole R-22 phasing out situation which would render a coil replacement useless if I ever needed freon again after 2020 on a 17 year old unit. He then provided me with my options: fill the freon, replace the coil and fill the freon, or replace the unit. I asked him roughly how much would it be to replace the unit. He said he didn't know and could quote me but could be thousands of dollars off and so he could set up a free consultation with the owner. I asked him how I was supposed to make an informed decision today if I didn't even know how much the options were. He didn't have an answer. I called my husband and we agreed to spend the $ to have the freon filled to buy us time until we can replace the unit. When he was quoting me the price, I asked if I was going to get some $ off for being 45 minutes late. He said he would ask the office. The office told him no because they didn't know it would be a problem. Really??! And that is my fault how? She told me he was going to be on time (essentially) after all so why let them know it was not acceptable? He told me that "things happen". I told him I understand things happen and that is why I did not get angry when he was late, but that still does not mean that I should lose out on money waiting for him. Had the situation been reversed, surely they would not have such a "things happen" attitude. In the end, I paid him for the service call and leak test and that was it. I will have someone else top of my freon and replace my unit (1 of 3 that will need to be replaced in the next few years) all because they didn't want to give me the $15-$20 it cost me. It's not like they weren't making a nice profit off the freon despite the rising cost. I guess everything happens for a reason. read more

I have high expectations and went through several contractors b4 i chose this one. I chose them because they understand the end results depend on more than just equip choices, they are install integrity and designs and duct work too. Gene the owner worked closely with me designing new ducts on both intake and output b4 we started contract. They overcame really bad previous install, poorest quaility equip, and especially bad ductwork when our house was born. The results ate better than we imagined. I called this morning to see if they could come and diagnose a problem my dad was having with his A/C and also asked if they could make it the same day and a little earlier than quoted (due to doctor's appts and work schedules) and they absolutely blew me away with their professionalism and helpfulness. We had been having extremely high heating bills: $900 and then $800; so I called Centex Mechanical and they promptly scheduled me an appointment and sent a technician right over...and we live in Liberty Hill! Their repairman was very professional and within 30 min had diagnosed and repaired the problem...two burnt wires in the condenser had actually fused together and were messing up the system. So, let me start by saying that I totally understand that it is Texas in July, and it is hot. AC's are breaking left to right. When I first contacted them to see if they could come look at our AC that went out, David, the service manager, seemed very put off that a tech had just been at the house and it broke again. My boyfriend was working out of town, so I was tasked with fixing it before he got home the following week, so not only was I already stressed out about with having that task on my shoulders, this company did not make my stress any better. David was very certain that they wouldn't be able to see our AC until the following day, but explained it was going to be an extra service charge because it was a weekend. I don't mind, I'm very appreciative that he's going to come out the next day. He says that they "may" be able to squeeze me in that afternoon, but very doubtful. Around noon that same day he said that they could have someone there in 20 minutes, which completely threw me off. I told him it would take me about an hour to get there, since I wasn't prepared, and not only did David get upset, he was very condesending about how he wished he had known I couldn't make it or someone couldn't make it. At this point, I'm almost in tears because I just want the AC fixed and David tells me he will see what he can do and hangs up. I told my superviosr that I needed to just go, in case they could show up, which David called me back and told me he would have someone there at the house in an hour to an hour and a half. I'm very thankful and appreciative to him on the phone and I head home. Almost THREE hours later, a tech arrives. By this point, my boyfriend has been contacted by the tech, even though he's working and the company was instructed to contact me, who has given him an earful. The tech was extremely nice and apologized for how I was treated. I told him that it was fine, because I knew this was their busiest time of year. They charge me the $75 service fee to tell me they can't fix it, tell me it's going to cost $180 to fix, and they'll call me. An hour later, my boyfriend gets an email with a quote that is almost $1000 more than what I was told. Now, he's upset because he's hundreds of miles away and can't do anything till he gets back, and I'm stuck with a 90 degree house. Not once did anyone call to check to see if we had reviewed the quote they sent us. While David is just one intolerable link in this company, after reviewing quote after quote with several different companies (one who I ended up going with that was literally 1/6 of the cost and fixed the issue in 15 minutes), the rapport of CenTex around Bastrop was not one that will continue to hold our business, nor those whom we know in this community. I am appreciative of Daryl W., the tech who talked me down off the ledge and apologized for his service managers behavior, but business is business, and if you can't be nice, don't pick up the phone. read more

These guys were GREAT! Our AC system failed and we called several places for quotes. Centex was the first to answer and they sent someone out the same day. In fact, the owner, Gene Rampy, came out to talk to me. We talked about the different options and he gave me lots of good information so my husband and I could make the best decision. He told us exactly what they would do and gave us a firm price - nothing hidden. A lot of the old ductwork had to be replaced, but he recommended how it could be done better to improve the "hot spots" in our house. Then, he came out and installed three window units so we wouldn't have to swelter until the installation date a few days later! Wow! The guys who came out to install the new system were great, too. They were very nice, respectful of our home, and did a quick and very, very good job! Gene (and his son) made sure everything was perfect and we were happy before they left. The new system is FANTASTIC! It looks like our electric bill will be less than half what it was! I HIGHLY recommend these guys. They're the real deal! read more

DON'T trust this company!!! We were trying to close on a house and had a commitment from the technician that he would make it to the house on a Monday am but couldn't say what time that morning because the dispatcher scheduled exact times. Late that afternoon I was trying to find out about the inspection but was told by my realtor that the technician was overbooked and couldn't do it. She happened to be texting me this info at the same time the dispatcher, Heather was telling me the owner wouldn't accommodate the technician which was basically a lie. After confronting her boss and explaining how I felt I had been lied to I was told they didn't need my business . Since this was just an inspection, I take it Centex Mechanical doesn't have the time to do anything unless it involves hundreds of dollars!!!! I found someone else within an hour who was able to help us the next morning for less money!! read more
