Later in the day I wasn't too far away in Winter Haven so I stopped in. She wasn't exaggerating about the grand scale of this antique store. Susan and Diego Barreiro opened their business in 2000. They started working out of their den on Havendale Boulevard in Winter Haven but they outgrew the space so in 2014 they moved to this location. In 2022 they won Best of Haven, Best Antique Store. Treasure House Antiques and Collectibles is located in a former funeral home. There is 10, 000 square feet of inventory and 42 vendors. After receiving a greeting I was free to explore room after room filled with treasures, clothing, furniture and home goods. Some of my favorite discoveries were the vintage holiday decorations, mid century Christmas tree, vintage Pyrex, and vintage stove. Prices seemed very reasonable. Clothes started at $5, antiques and collectibles started at $5, and furniture started at $10. If you love vintage and antiques as much as I do, this is definitely a stop you want to make in Winter Haven.

I especially loved the mix of old and new--everything from the contemporary Temptations cookware I love to the vintage Pyrex I adore. One booth even had an incredible wall of Loungefly bags. Being in Central Florida, there's also a great selection of Disney-themed items sprinkled throughout. Be sure to follow the arrows on the floor so you don't miss the hidden upstairs area--it's easy to overlook and totally worth checking out. You could easily spend hours browsing here. If you need a break, there's a Touch of Philly cheesesteak food truck on-site, plus a snack counter inside offering chips and popcorn. I could spend hours in here and and still find something I didn't see earlier. They have a great selection from vintage toys, home decor, Pokemon cards to homemade jams. My story: I downsized....then I downsized....then I downsized... I met a woman at one of my yard sales who was buying for this thrift store. So we (me and my friends / family at yard sale) filled up her van! That was a few months ago. Then 3 weeks ago I called the store and asked if they could pick up some things. They did - they showed up yesterday with a box van and I did a very good job of almost filling it up! The pick up men were incredibly sweet, nice, respectful and profusely thanked me for the donation. I told my 82 year old mother about it and she was beaming! I could have had another yard sale and maybe got some $ - but I feel much better about donating to them. They are doing an awesome job of helping others! They will continue to receive my donations as long as I live in Lake Wales!

On the day I visited they had a sidewalk sale set up in the side alley. Ella's is a Dixie Belle Paint dealer. They are also sell antique, vintage, and shabby chic furniture, wallets, Christmas decorations, plants and pots, decorative bottles, funny signs, ornaments, pottery, bird houses, jewelry, vintage cameras, nuts, chocolate, cups, hats, t shirts, toys, honey, candles, jams, jellies, sauces, and dressings. Items can be custom engraved. I loved the delicate bird ornaments and the gift baskets filled with tasty treats. The owners were friendly and chatting with everyone who came in. This store is wonderful for anyone looking for a unique present but beware because you are going to want to gift yourself too!

The…read morebuilding appears to be in decent condition but the a/c wasn't working properly and the workers kept grumbling about it. Many, if not most of the items were extremely picked over and in poor condition and over-priced. Then, those exact same items were price-tagged in red and were only 50 cents that day. Was that deliberate to sell them or just a coincidence? Also, certain price tag colors had discounts but it depended upon the cashier to determine if they were going to honor that discount or not. They had appliances in bad shape; broken, rusty, and no price tags. On the other hand, many pieces of furniture on the floor appeared to be right out of a store and priced quite high ($150 for one end table) for a thrift shop. Are they new or used? Some were obviously used, others I just couldn't tell. The clothing section was very large and seemed quite poor. Although, a woman before me found a treasure trove of '80s suits someone donated in excellent shape and she bought them all. I'm not interested in them, but it did get me thinking that if one was hunting for things like that, then this place would be one to keep in mind. There was a media room (electronics?, not sure) and books in another area through a doorway, that I did not check out. Only the cashiers were masked. The workers stocking things were masked when we first arrived but soon took them off, and were grumbling about that as well. They seemed to grumble about a lot of things. The biggest problem with this thrift shop is that the loading of purchases and the unloading of donations happen in the same area: the front doors of the store. People show up in very large pick-up trucks with flat bed trailers and park in front of the store and literally block the doors and make the first row of parking spaces very difficult to pull in and out of. Will we come back here? Maybe. Might wait a few months and check this place out again.
