My husband and I had a fabulous Paso Robles Tour with Laura Gurreau of Central Coast Food and Wine Tours! She was not only informative, but just a great fun lady to spend the day touring with. Laura knew so much about the history of Paso, as she has been a town resident for over 2 decades. Our tour was one that encompassed some of the best highlights of Downtown Paso Robles. We started at Pasolivo in their downtown location and met Gail, their extremely knowledgeable soon to be Olive Oil Sommelier. We sampled some fresh pressed fabulous California olive oils of all different flavors, vinegars and luxurious bath products. Of course before leaving we had a box full shipped home. Then Laura toured us through the city square park, and we learned about the history of the park and the area buildings since the world wars. She definitely knew all about what made Paso Robles so special. Laura had lunch arranged at the oldest famous hotel in town, Paso Robles Inn. This is where the original stage coach came through, stopping for healthy hot springs and where Joe Di Maggio and Marilyn Monroe spent a honeymoon night on their way back from San Francisco to Los Angeles. We popped into the Brown Butter Cookie Company and tasted delicious home made cookies from 2 local college girls, who returned to their hometown to set up shop. My favorite was the Bourbon cookies for the upcoming fall season. Afterwards we stopped at the towns famous Gelateria SLO, for the creamiest gelatos and candy treats. Lastly, no Central Coast Tour would be complete without a stop in a Wine Bar, and we went to the most unique one for a Wine & Spice Tasting LXV. Chris Kern, their Wine Specialist lead us through a pairing of wines with uniques various Indian spices, that not only mirrored but some contrasted the flavors in the wines, which made for a very interesting tasting. All in all it was such a fabulous tour. We would definitely recommend Laura, and hope to take another tour with her when back in Paso! read more

So...my wife and I had a really memorable time at this food tour on our anniversary. Really good for folks from out of town or the area. My wife enjoyed the diverse food offerings and the walking in between. Make sure you wear good comfy shoes btw!!! Our tour started at 1pm and ended at 4:30pm. We met at Mama Ganache Artisan Chocolates where met the people in our group and our guide, Yule. We sampled some amazing chocolates and heard about why chocolate is so good for you in moderation. We moved onto Jaffa Cafe and had a choice of gyro, chicken, or veggies. The garlic paste, hummus, and pita bread along with the salsa bar were so delish. We then marched our way to Guiseppe's and sat outside in the back and heard about the restored building and new home for this fine Italian restaurant. Amazing. Butternut squash filled raviolis with a creamy white sauce paired with some bread and Artisan Mineral Water from Italy had us all oooing and ahhhing. We then walked alongside the creek and made our way to the Old San Luis Bbq Company and had a taste of their Santa Maria Style bbq: chicken, tri-tip, and pulled pork with some beans, bread and corn pie with a kick to it. Yule asked us if we wanted our dessert to go and we all agreed. He left and brought back some cheesecake and some blondie brownies. We were so stuffed than many put their desserts with their bbq. Yule is a very nice gentlemen from the Ukraine and he was full of info about the history of the city (of San Luis Obispo), the restaurants, the old buildings, the Mission and the food, wine, and olive oil. We had a lovely time on our tour through Paso Robles. We had an experience of Paso Robles that we could not have had on our own. We enjoyed delicious food and wine choices from some of the best restaurants in the city while being entertained and captivated by Laura's stories of Paso Roble's history. We learned about the origins of the city and what has happened since to make the city what it is today. This experience brought the city alive for us. Yule gave us a wonderful description on the history of the family restaurant. After the lunch we were taken to 3 great wineries. Their choices were great and demonstrated the wonderful varieties of wines and wine makers in the area. They arranged for a private tour of Talley winery. That was first class too. This was our SECOND walking food tour with Laura, and the fact we booked another one should tell you all you need to know about this five star Yelp review. She made sure to take us to different places. As we walked from place to place, she told us about the history of Paso Robles, back to the 1800s, with specific stories about certain buildings, secret tunnels dug during prohibition, what happened to some buildings, and which buildings had a reputation for being haunted. Loved our walking food/wine tour of Paso with Laura! We ended up being the only couple on the tour and it became a laid-back private tour of the food and wine of Paso and we adored Laura and the town. It wasn't awkward at all and felt like we were just hanging out with a new friend. We met Laura at Thomas Hill Organics in downtown Paso (super cute spot!) and had a delicious salad and crisp glass of white to start our tour. The service at the restaurant was so warm and friendly. Laura is a walking encyclopedia of knowledge of local history and we LOVED learning about the origination of the area. We then went to an olive oil tasting at Pasolivo which at first I thought was really random but actually ended up being one of my favorite parts of the tour. We ended up returning to buy olive oils and different seasonings and vinegars. Definitely a highlight! We love that Laura is bringing food/wine tours to smaller towns. We really felt like we getting a local's inside and honest perspective of the town and all it has to offer. We HIGHLY recommend taking Laura's tour. Laura provided a lively and fun private tour of downtown Paso Robles for our group of 3. She built a progressive lunch for us, with 5 planned stops and 1 impromptu add because we were talking about it as we walked by. All delicious, well thought out and timed. Along the way, we learned about the interesting history of the town, some booms and busts along its historical timeline, some lucky moments, and some long-game planning by some of the important members of the town's past and present. Food-wise, it was a fantastic way to experience a lot of the culinary stars of the town in a single "meal" (calling this a meal is silly - it felt like we were eating for 3 hours straight) - perfect for a short weekend trip, and was a great introduction (and re-introduction, for one of our party) to this town. Laura is super energetic, clearly loves this town and the people in it, and is a wealth of knowledge for other things to do, places to go, hints on how the locals do things, etc. Really enjoyed it, will definitely ask her to plan something for us next time we're in town. We found Laura's website while visiting Paso Robles this week. We wanted to try some local wines and with hundreds of choices, we thought being part of a tour would be the easiest thing. We had no idea what a treat we were in for. The tour group could have been up to 6 people. On this day we were the only couple so we got an unexpected private tour. We met Laura in a steak house in downtown Paso Robles. She had a plate of appetizers waiting and she started with a brief history of Paso Robles told thru food using the items on our plate. After a history lesson, we were served lunch. During lunch she told us about the different points of interest in local winemaking. She made some recommendations but ultimately wanted us to select the wineries that we were most intrested in for our tastings. We hopped in her spotless minivan where she had chilled water waiting and began our tastings. At each stop, the staff in the tasting rooms knew Laura and as her clients, they made sure that we got best experience possible. At our last stop we were shown a book of famous local winemakers including the wine maker at Denner Vineyards where we were tasting on their patio. A few minutes later this same winemaker was out on the patio mingling with visitors. We also had a bonus stop at a local olive farm where we got to taste thru all of their best olive oils and vinegars. Laura covered all tasting fees and gratuities. The entire afternoon was incredible! Laura was great company. We were treated as special guests everywhere that we went. And with over 300 wineries in Paso Robles we've decided that we want to come back every year to have the same personal and knowledgeable tasting experience with Laura. read more

My husband and I were in Paso Robles last week and found out about this amazing tour and decided to give it a try! For starters, Laura was so friendly and personable! Her sweet mother, Mary Ann also joined in on our tour. Our first stop was at a wonderful little outside bistro where we had the most delicious salad paired with a lovely local wine. Surprisingly, I am not very knowledgable about wine, but not to worry, Laura knew so much information about the sweet little bistro, the winery itself, the people, the making of this wine and lots of other little details that made this first stop so much fun. The wine and the salad were absolutely delicious! After our first stop, we walked through town where Laura and Mary Ann shared so much interesting and historical information about the town and the people of Paso Robles. At our next stop we enjoyed the most delicious sandwich paired with some amazing wine. In fact, I am still dreaming about that sandwich! The tables outside in the courtyard gave us the most beautiful view. While we enjoyed our lunch with a beautiful view, we learned some additional historical information and fun facts about our location! After lunch, we walked back through town and Laura and Mary Ann took us to the most beautiful winery out in the country where we enjoyed some appetizers and a wine tasting. The views were absolutely stunning! Laura shared some wonderful information with us about the different wines and the beautiful location. All in all, this was the most wonderful tour! We loved learning about the local wines, food, people, and history or Paso Robles. We are already planning to return in November and plan to book another tour in Paso Robles or San Louis. There is so much to learn, see and experience in this wonderful area of California and we are grateful for Laura and Mary Ann! This is a little bit late but this place definitely deserves an amazing 5 star review. The walking tour is well organized and the timing between places was perfect. We didn't feel rushed or that we spent too long at any given place. My brother chose this wine tour for our mom's birthday weekend and we couldn't have been happier with the outcome. There were six of us plus a separate couple so we had 8 total. Laura was very knowledgeable and was more than helpful in sharing her wealth of information about the area and its history. We started with a delicious salad and a single wine tasting at Thomas Hill Organics. The kale and candied walnut salad was light, with just enough acidity to be bright. It complemented the wine perfectly. The décor in the bar dining was upscale gastropub style while the patio was reminiscent of a rustic farm frontage. I don't want to spoil the food tour by giving away all the wonderful things we did but it is one that I wouldn't think twice to re-book and bring some friends. If you're not sure, you should book it. This was a fun experience that added fond memories to our road trip through SLO. Yule is a very awesome guide who is knowledgeable, patient, genuine and funny. I was very appreciative that they allowed our 6 year old to participate at no extra cost as long as she shared my food with me. That worked out perfectly for us. One of the places we went to learn about olive oil is We Olive. We purchased some olive oil and vinegar to take home only to find out that there is another We Olive in Reno/Tahoe area where we live. We did a private Paso Robles food and wine tour with Laura today with our family and had an amazing time! Laura was very knowledgeable about the history of Paso Robles and all the food/wine was great. We started with a poached pear salad paired with a white wine, then did an olive oil and balsamic tasting, then stopped at the Paso Robles Inn for the main course. The main course was a delicious prime rib sandwich with au jous paired with a Cabernet Sauvignon. We then stopped in for cookie tastings at a bakery, then went to a restaurant and were able to pick a dessert and coffee or a special cocktail. We loved that we were able to have a choice between tres leches, coconut flan, chocolate torte, and crime brûlée. Finally, we did a spice pairing with 5 wines. The quantity was good, and the wine pourings were generous. Laura was wonderful, was not rushed at all (she spent from 11-3 pm with us), and was a pleasure to interact with throughout the whole time. Laura is a wonderful tour guide! We have done two family trips to Paso Robles and Laura has taken us wine tasting both times. On our first trip we were celebrating a birthday and spent the day at several different wineries. She picked a wonderful selection of places, and we had an amazing lunch paired with carrot cake for the birthday girl! Laura provided an energetic and enlightening history of Paso Robles and we walked and tasted. The time flew by and Laura did not rush us along. Went on a food and wine driving tour about a week ago. Laura met us at Giuseppe's in downtown SLO to start our tour. We had bread, pasta and salad to start our tour. She then took us to 3 beautiful wineries and was very knowledgeable about all things wine. My only disappointment is that this was a FOOD and wine tour but the only place we went for food is where we started the tour. It's was delicious but I didn't eat much thinking I should save room for other tasty treats that never came. Needless to say we were very hungry at the end of the tour. This tour was more like a wine tour with lunch and for the price I could've saved some cash by taking the walking food tour or going with another company for a wine tour that included lunch. This company has good reviews for a reason, but I would not recommend this specific tour if you're looking to experience SLO food culture. read more

My daughter bought this walking tour for the two of us on Mothers Day and it could NOT have been more perfect. Laura was the ultimate hostess to our group of 4. She walked us around the town (which is very cute) and started us off with some delicious cookie tasting at the Brown Butter Cookie company. Then, our 3 course brunch was unbelievable and accompanied with mimosas, sangria and an after-brunch sherry! Went on a Central Coast Food Tour through downtown SLO, and loved it! My sister and I lucked out when we had our own private tour with tour guide Yule. Our tour guide alone deserves 6 stars if possible! He was extremely knowledgeable not only on the type of food we had on the tour, but he was a wealth of knowledge on SLOtown history, California history, and just about anything. He was very engaging and entertaining as well, and was very patient when answering all of our many questions. He offered to hold our heavy bags from shopping, and helped us plan the rest of our trip in SLOtown. I've travelled throughout the world, and must say Yule was one of the best, if not best tour guide I've had the pleasure of meeting! We went through five different stops on our tour :1) Sweet Earth Chocolate, 2) Jaffa Mediterranean Cafe, 3) We Olive, 4) Black Sheep Bar & Grill, and 5) Alegria a wine and tapas bar. Each of the stops had delicious and tasty food. Each of the stops Yule explained a history of the food, and during the walking tour we had a great background on the history of SLOtown and California. We participated in the Paso Robles food and wine tour. I highly recommend this tour if you are interested in learning, seeing and tasting what this little town has to offer! Laura is very informative and takes you to some pretty yummy stops along the tour, while sharing the history behind it all. I would take this tour as an intro then ask for recommendations from Laura to point you in the right direction if you are interested in certain wines, foods to go back to later. I absolutely was in love with the food stops she had picked out for us, and we ended the tour extremely satisfied. This was more like a multiple course meal then a tasting. You will be given good portions, leave with a full tummy and a great experience. Prior to booking my boyfriend (had no clue) had mentioned we were celebrating our anniversary and Valentine's Day during this trip and boy we couldn't have been more pleased with the attention that was give by Laura, the group and Estrella ( one of the restaurants we visited -great food, ceviche, and sangria) Cheers to such a quality tour! He booked a private tour with Ule, who took us around to a few local spots in SLO--capped off with a dessert from Sky Cafe. So I have never gone on said tour, nor have I ever been to San Luis Obispo...ever. But after finding this on Yelp on my quest to find a local business to buy from for a gift for my sister, I could not resist writing a review. I called and left a message and about a day later, someone called me back and took my order for the gift certificate! It was very easy and Laura (the rep that called me back) was very nice and gave me a run down of the tour. This was our second tour with Laura and once again she did not disappoint. After living in the area for more than 30 years and writing a wine blog, she knows the best places to eat and drink. She is a wealth of knowledge about local wineries, restaurants, and things to do. We started at Thomas Hill Organics, where we enjoyed the black lentil tacos and a glass of locally grown Gruner Veltliner. Something no one in our group would have ordered or paired together, however they were both superb. We even had the opportunity to meet the owner Debbie. Next we were on to Pasolivo for olive oil, balsamic, and spice tasting. The shop is lively and filled with great items for the kitchen and home. Next stop was Jeffry's BBQ, and yes I spelled it correctly. We have been coming to Paso for years and frequently stay a block away from this back alley BBQ and have smelt it. We could never find it and our lesson here is to always take the unbeaten path (the alley) and pleasant things will surprise you. Once again we met the owner Jeffry, who regaled us with BBQ stories and how he smokes his meats. The tri tip sandwich, homemade chips, and L'Aventure rose were a fantastic pairing for a warm, sunny day. We then strolled past the park downtown and the famous Paso Robles Inn as Laura explained the history of Paso Robles (pronounced like nobles) to end at Buona Tavola. We experienced their homemade bread (which you can also by at Pasolivo or Vivant cheese shop) and a charcuterie board with their speciality sausage. It was divine with a glass of Zinfande. Our last stop was at Taste along the park for dessert. The three and a half hours spent with Laura exploring Paso Robles was worth every penny and we can't wait to do it again! read more

Great Tour and Tour Guide! I'll start with the only thing that WE did wrong... We did the wine/walk/tour after being in Paso Robles for three days and having only one day left on our vacation. We should have done this on Day One as what we learned could have been used over the next few days to maximize fun. The tour was not a lot of walking. It was the prefect amount, but do wear comfortable walking shoes. There is food, wine, lunch, wine, gelato, wine, cookies, wine, and spice with wine. There are lots of historical stories (and even ghost stories) about the buildings we saw. All in all, I highly recommend it! read more

We participated in the downtown SLO Tour and received a delightful tour, which encompassed not only 6 restaurant stops, but a historical tour of downtown SLO, specifically through Bubblegum Alley and the Mission. Our tour guide, Yule, was informative and accommodating of food allergies and children's palates (while we enjoyed wine tasting, our children were treated to a local artisan soda tasting). All of the food we were served was well plated, perfectly prepared, and each of the artisans friendly (each of them came out to speak with us.) We consider ourselves "foodies" and our only complaint (if we had to look hard) is that there was no "theme" to the selected restaurants. Seriously - that's the only complaint. read more
