This was our first visit to Paso Robles and we chose to celebrate our anniversary a little early with a wine tour and it could not have been a better experience. Katie was incredibly welcoming from the start and clearly very knowledgeable about both Paso Robles and the wine industry. One of the highlights was a private tasting with Ishka at Guyomar Winery. Hearing firsthand about how he farms his land and the pride he takes in his grapes made the experience feel personal and memorable. We also enjoyed a tasting and lunch at Justin Winery followed by a beautifully curated tasting at Copia where the personalized touches including a view of the vines and a sign acknowledging our anniversary made it extra special. Our final stop at McPrice Myers Winery was charming with great wines to round out the day. Throughout the tour Katie went above and beyond storing our wine purchases in an ice chest checking in during tastings to make sure everything was going well and keeping us on schedule without ever making us feel rushed. My husband and I did a private tour with Katie as part of a 17 day west coast wine road trip and it truly was one of the highlights. Katie worked with our specific wine tastes to create an itinerary that both allowed us to try our favorite varietals in the region as well as try other ones based off our preferences that, based off her sommelier knowledge, she thought we would enjoy. We had a very unique experience this week in Paso Robles. Niche Wine Tours, Katie, arranged a couple of special tastings for us. The first a tour of a beautiful winery with a tasting at each stop along the tour. Our host for this drove us around the winery and explained every detail about how the vines are managed, how to tell one grape from another and how their wines are made. We wrapped that up with a lunch that Katie had picked up for us in a most beautiful setting on the vineyard. We then had a sit down tasting at another winery where our host provided interesting background and information as we tasted their wines. She lived up to all the positive feedback that I read on Yelp. If you're looking for an extraordinary wine tour while in Paso Robles, Katie Gebauer of Niche wine tours is the one to call. We were in Paso celebrating a special birthday. We had spent plenty of time in Sonoma and Napa on previous wine trips, but were new to Paso Robles. We were looking for a private tour and hoping to discover some of the small production hidden gems that the area has to offer. We were not disappointed. Katie arrived at our hotel promptly in her clean Land Rover. Our first stop was at Onx Vineyard where we were given an outdoor tour in an ATV. We got to see the vines being pruned in preparation for the growing season and gained more understanding about the lifecycle of the grapevines, as well as production techniques, soil composition... all the actual work that goes into the production of the wine we so happily sip. Our favorite here was the 2014 Crux. Next stop was Guyomar Wine Cellars, a very small production vineyard. We met Ishka, the owner and tasted in his art filled dining room, nibbling snacks he prepared for our visit. His wines were spectacular. We especially loved the 2013 Oblate. He is a dry land grower, and has a very personal relationship to the plants and the land. Next up was Epoch Vineyard, the site of the bygone York Vineyard. The newly opened tasting room was restored after years of work incorporating some of the antique beams and bricks from the old Vineyard. It was a delightful place to taste wine and to hear about the historic nature of the land. We loved the wines too; our favorite was the Veracity 2013. Just to round out the day, Katie accommodated our wish to visit the Turley tasting room. Katie was the perfect guide. She has deep knowledge of wines and wine production, and found Vineyards that perfectly suited our wish lists. She was friendly, easy-going and we felt comfortable asking questions. She had a very nice manner with the Vineyard owners and sommeliers during our tastings. We never felt a bit of pressure from her in terms of time or purchasing. Before hand she sent us 3 possible itineraries for the day and was flexible about how we wished to proceed. We would recommend her without hesitation! read more
