The office staff was always nice to us. Until we moved to Florida. I asked in office if I could get the remaining money in which we paid for treatment in full because we were moving out of state. They stated that they will switch over the whole account including the money once we found an orthodontist in Florida. So I dropped it until this month when I found an ortho here in Florida. My daughter has had to have two phases with her ortho and she has completed phase one which was April 30, 2019 through November 2019 from what I can see in the paperwork. So that is seven months out of the 36 months her plan has called for. I paid $7172! $2787 is all I have received And they've stated that 60% of the treatment has been done. I've contacted this company three times by email and asked for communication to be done through writing which they have ignored all emails for over a week. They refuse to email me me back as to why 60% of the treatment is stated when only seven months of the 36 months has been completed , and where is the rest of the money because from my understanding this does not calculate. They will not further communicate with me to help me understand if someone would like to get in touch with me. At this point that would be great. You have my email. First we went to Cali-Dental. Well after being jacked around in that place. They filed like 3 of my front teeth down, then filled them which 2 days later they all fell off. Went back in a 2nd time the something happened. Plus they wanted to do our sons braces in like 2 or 3 times. First the top, then the bottom, which made no sense. And they wanted full payment. Screw Cali-Dental. Now this place ( Central Coast orthodontics ) are totally friendly, explained everything we needed to do with his braces. Dr. Specht and all of the staff were always amazing! My daughter had to have braces for a procedure that we were told would need her jaw to be surgically reset! Dr. Specht took her as his patient and was able to give her a beautiful smile without any surgery! It took a little longer, but he stuck by her all the way and we are grateful to him and all of the staff. They were patient and kind EVERY time we visited. My updated review is based soley on multiple less than ideal experiences with whom I believe to be the Office Manager or Coordinator of some type named Erica in the back office. This manager or whatever her title is, is so extremely rude, condescending, belittling and flat out disrespectful towards patients. This employee sits in a back office with a huge window that oversees the treatment area. Last time we were at an appointment, she came flying out of her office yelling at the orthodontist assistants to communicate her issue with me. Keep in mind, I was literally sitting right there, she could have came up to me personally (perhaps with a smile or acknowledgment) and spoken to me directly. The surprising thing, is Dr. Specht had literally no issue with anything, nor did any of the assistants, it was only this lady who was making a scene in the middle of the office. She was in the process of chastising her orthodontist assistants and staring at me in an obviously very upset manner, but then completely stopped and walked away when Dr. Specht arrived at our dental chair! Last time this happened, I was so surprised considering every other employee I have ever interacted with in the last 3 years of treatment has always been so kind, helpful and a genuine pleasure to work with. I let it go last time, everyone has bad days right? Well fast forward to the next appointment. Same thing, everyone is extremely polite, friendly and helpful (including the doctors) and this same employee comes flying out of her office again, talking about the patient (me) literally right in front of me to her ortho assistants, full of condescending attitude and completely ignoring me in the process. Considering how genuinely polite and caring Dr. Specht is, I am shocked that he would find this behavior acceptable for his office. Based on what I witnessed (her ceasing the behavior in the presence of the doctor) leads me to believe that perhaps he is unaware of her lack of customer service (patient service) skills. We paid almost $6,000 in treatment fees, I would expect courtesy and polite service. This employee made me feel extremely uncomfortable and disrespected. I have no issue with her policies, however it's not always what you say...it's how you say it. My second child is in treatment at another orthodontist center and we have never experienced anything like this. Friends and family are aware I have my children at two different orthodontist centers, and frequently ask which we would recommend best. Based off this situation, I can no longer recommend Dr. Specht's office. Yes, they are a "top rated invisalign center" but if they are treating patients in a disrespectful and rude manner, then all that is irrelevant and their ratings are nothing more than a façade. It is disappointing because Dr. Specht, Dr. Barrett (the previous doctor who now opened his own practice in SLO) and their new doctor have always been such a pleasure to work with, but the back office staff is what ultimately leaves the final impression. read more

I highly recommend Central Coast Orthodontics. I have been taking my two kids and absolutely love the friendly staff and excellent work that the Orthodontists do. I've gone to other Orthodontists for estimates but Central Coast Orthodontics was by far the best in overall service and I love how they make their clients feel extra special with events and prizes. I had heard a lot of good things about Dr. Specht's office, but none of it was even close to how amazing they are! I called for a consultation for my daughter and they were able to get us in first thing the next morning. She was nervous going in, because what teenager isn't, and the staff was so amazingly kind and helpful. They explained everything they were doing to make sure that she felt comfortable and took care of us from start to finish! And when discussing the treatment plan and pricing, Kara was fantastic. She answered all of my questions and was able to help me figure out a payment plan that worked for me and my budget. But the best part was them giving me FREE teeth whitening for a year, just for setting up my daughter's treatment plan! Now my daughter and I will both have amazing smiles! If you need orthodontic work, I can tell you from experience that Dr. Specht's practice is phenomenal. All six of my family members have been under his care for many years. He and his staff are ALWAYS wearing smiles, they are excellent listeners, compassionate, and ultimate professionals. After interviewing three different orthodontist office we picked CCO! They have been great. They have really explained every step to us along the way. My daughter loves the ice cream she gets at each visit. She also loves to get points towards bucks gift cards from them. I appreciate the coffee. The staff there is all very friendly. We sometimes have to wait a bit but other wise they are usually very quick. I really appreciate when we had a bit of an emergency over the weekend. I think Dr. Specht has good intentions and a good heart but he has failed me and I am very disheartened by my experience. I came to the practice w/history of orthodontic treatment - some bad luck in the past, and some failure on my part to wear retainers (was young and dumb then) .. but when I found Dr. Specht I was older, more mature, and ready to finally take care of the smile that I was embarrassed of, to pay the cost, and keep up with retainer wear to keep it looking good. At first, I was very pleased with him and his staff. Was very warm and friendly, genuine person and involved in the community as well. I felt in good hands. The results from the invisalign were good too, I was happy with them. It was the final stages where things fell apart. See, I wanted the invisalign style retainer - to insure tooth placement and comfort. I knew well before treatment this is what I wanted. Dr. Specht, however, insisted that I get the traditional retainer to allow the teeth next to my front teeth to continue to move downwards a bit. I wasn't concerned about this, but he impressed upon me that this was the way to go, so I gave in. I really shouldn't have. I should've stood my ground. But I didn't know. I wore my retainers as I should, I did everything right, but those teeth next to my front teeth .. I don't know if they ever moved down, but they sure moved backwards. So much so, I hated my smile again. My wedding day was approaching and I was distressed so made an appointment to go back in. At this "re-consult" his assistant was snarky to me about not wearing my retainers. Even though I had already made it clear that I DID. Dr. Specht did not seem to have much compassion this day and just suggested that I get braces again (this would now be my 4th time!) for 3000-4000 and then get a permanent retainer. First of all, this wasn't my fault that the treatment didn't work, and secondly why on Earth would you not recommend permanent retainer sooner for someone who's had braces 3 times?? Had I known that was an option I would have definitely explored that sooner. I don't know of any bride who has 4000 extra cash to spend on braces. I certainly didn't. So without the money or patience to get a 4th treatment I was left to have my wedding day w/a smile that I was still uncomfortable with and somewhat embarrassed by - not how you want to feel on your big day or what you want to think about looking at wedding photos. I contacted the office many, many times to ask if they could reorder my last aligners - since they should fit seeing as the retainer still does. I was told many times they would look into it - even by Dr. Specht personally but they never have - months, and months later, not so much as a sorry we can't do it. Nothing. One day I said I would call in and I got hung up on 3 times. Now, that could have been a phone system error I'm not saying it was on purpose, but it did feel that way. I never got a response. Icing on the crap cake I was served. So anyway, I'm still not happy with my smile .. .years and thousands & thousands of dollars later. I still have to wear my retainers so they don't get worse, but no mater how much I do and how uncomfortable that may be, they'll never get my smile back to where it was - what I paid for. As I said, I think Dr. Specht a good person and means well... he'll probably give you good results most of the time. But I think that just makes it that much worse. Because I really wouldn't expect this from him. But it happened, he failed me, and I'm disappointed to say the least. Every look in the mirror, every selfie, is a reminder and it bothers me so. read more

Everyone is great here. Awesome with the kids. Every appointment is on the time. The staff is really great about explaining to the kids what is going to being done. So it calms the kids knowing what is taking place. When we leave here today both kids will have their braces. read more

The absolute worst!! First their phone system is in a loop and will keep you on hold for close to an hour. When someone answers you will be put on hold again and possibly put back in the loop. When we finally got an appointment the Dr. was 45 minutes late arriving to work. Most frustrating experience to date and I have been a full time caregiver before. Insurance gives us no choice. Best experience ever! The staff, doctors and facility are amazing. I took my niece here, and the doctors took really good care of her. I'm forever thankful for the help and the caring they did for her. The ice cream for the patient and her party, yum! I love ice cream. Coffee as I waited for her appointment to be done! Not sure why my review was filtered... maybe it was too technical... maybe because it was my first Yelp review... who knows, but this is what I posed: Just had my daughter start with Dr. Specht. I did some looking around and found that this doctor has some hidden advantages. He uses a CBCT scan that makes a 3D image of my daughter's entire jaw which can be manipulated to view in any direction. This allows the Doctor to make a better evaluation than just a general X-ray. He also belongs to the Elite Invisalign membership, which only 5% of the nation's orthodontists belong to. Inquire for yourself and find this hidden gem that brings well to do folks from as far a Santa Barbara. The staff are extremely professional and caring. **follow-up: My daughter had had several appointments and everything is on schedule! We are seeing amazing progress and are extremely happy. I have recently visited Dr. Specht's office for a consultation. Being 50 something and with a mouth full of veneers and crowns I wasn't sure if I was a candidate for braces. Dr Specht and his staff were awesome. After much discussion we decided on invisalign. The whole process was so easy, no messy impressions just a quick 20 minute scan and I was done. My invisalign arrived within a couple of weeks and I am happy to report my treatment is well on its way. When I went to the office to pick up my aligners, the staff helped me place the first set in place and gave me simple instructions , do's and dont's as well as the assurance that if I needed anything or had questions I should feel free to call the office. No questions is a stupid question. I would recommend Dr. Specht and his team to anyone even remotely interested in braces, No matter what your age. Wow! This is the best child friendly orthodontist! Amazing staff. They were very welcoming from the first moment we got there. My 7 year old son had an amazing experience. At his first visit they gave him a tour of the whole office and were very focused on him. They took us to a room to give him a complimentary exam that included an X Ray and photos. Oh and he also got a gift just for coming in! And my son was super excited to hear that there was a photo booth section and that he got free ice cream at every visit ;) Kara helped us out and she was amazing!! After the first visit I had a few questions and I guess it hit me... the nervousness lol I called the office and I spoke to Elizabeth who was very kind and super helpful and helped me relax a bit. On my son's second visit he was treated like royalty..! He went in to get his invisalign put in and a young lady greeted him and sat him down. She was very thorough in explaining exactly what was going on throughout the process. She explained everything in a way so my 7 year old would understand what was going on. She also answered questions I had and gave me suggestions on how to keep track of his liners. She was awesome! :) Since we went in on a Friday Kara gave us her card and number in case we had trouble with his liners or if we had any questions during the weekend on off hours. She is super sweet! We went on the Friday before Mother's day and the office staff gave my pregnant sister and I a rose for mother's day. This is how kind and genuinely caring this office is. This was my sons first time going to dr.spechts office.. The girls at the desk (to the left) never said hi..the young lady at the front desk to the right was friendly very professional and helpful . Then we got greeted by KARA!! What a sweet young lady.. Pretty smile very professional.. Gave us a tour of the place was nice to my son.. Her vibe was great.. The dentist was good too..
