I've never had hair service that felt like a warm hug. So here's my salon background: nowhere near this, I can tell you that. I've been going to the same little shop in Chinatown in the city since I was a broke college kid for ten years. Paying $30 plus tip just to get the job done, just for a semblance of put together hair. Well... I'm a grown up now and it's time for an upgrade, time for new things to try. And comparing Hair Saloon and my little reliable shop... the phrase I would use is you get what you pay for. The quality Brianna and Danielle exposed to me to is something I would never turn my back on now that I've had a taste of it. When I walked into the salon, which shares a little building with a nail salon next door, my nervous little self was greeted with warm smiles and welcomes. I was given a little tour of the cafe/bar side, and then the section where the actual magic begins. Seeing as how they've open during the height of COVID, they're still very infection control friendly! The chairs in the cutting/stying section are more than generously six feet apart, and the chairs by the washing station are separated by clear screens. 10/10 for cleanliness because you see these other businesses and since late 2021, you know hygiene has definitely been thrown out the window. You know you're dishing out a little more $ when there's massage chairs during the hair wash. In my head I was just wow'd because Chinatown could never lol. Brianna was great during the wash. One thing I have to commend them for is the communication step-by-step. She asked me my preferences in shampoo, and I usually opt for products that offer volume, so she introduced me to R&Co, which was pretty much *the* brand that was used on me throughout my appointment. I really appreciated how she explained the different types of shampoo they used and who would benefit from what. The shampoo, the hair serum, and hair spray I'm pretty sold on because I'm that person who's always looking for the next best thing when it comes to hair and face products. Now Danielle. You are the GOAT. Thank you for showing me what it's like to be well taken care of as a client. There is something in that customer service of yours that feels so warm and it's like, of course the business would be 5 stars on here! You're like the big sister of hair, telling me what works and what doesn't. I told you this during the service, but you are absolutely absolutely absolutely the master of your craft! :) Dear future customers, the way Danielle can utilize and manipulate round brushes? It's honest to God like being in the audience of a magic show lol Hair Saloon fulfilled everything I was looking for a new salon: trendy, modern, close to home, young and kind stylists who are willing to collaborate with you for a fresh take on your appearance, and I didn't ask for this but it's a welcome bullet point: drinks!!! :) Cannot wait to be back!

Not only was it reasonably priced but the staff was friendly and accomodating. AND when my wife came out of the building she was the happiest ever as the facial was exceptional for her. (As the owner, it would have been appropriate for him to introduce himself, as I was the only guest there. And ask how everything is. But I know why he didn't. He is likely tired of hearing complaints.) My first sign of discomfort was the musty smell in the entryway. I found my welcome packet on the desk with my first and last name and room displayed on the front. I saw another guest's packet there too; having my information displayed that way was a bit unnerving, especially as a solo female traveler. (Perhaps assign each guest a code and only write that on the envelope.) As I walked to the room, the hallway was completely dark, so I used my cell phone flashlight to find my way. My room (Sage Left) was "quaint."Despite the fake fingernail found on the ledge behind the hand towel, the clump of black hair in the shower, the body hair on the toilet, and the bed that felt like rocks. But I was determined to make the best of things. I tried to open the door to the outdoor area; I tried to. I had to pull weeds away from it first. I sat down on the red lounge chair and looked out at overgrown bushes and weeds. I took in the rest of the space and saw propane containers stored under plants. Since the restaurant isn't open until Friday, I had to eat lunch and dinner off-site. I also bought bottles of water since there weren't any in the room and the water cooler jug was empty during my stay. (If an alternate water source was available, I did not see one.) Using the TV was frustrating, and I gave up. I took a walk on the grounds and was astonished at how neglected everything is. Dead plants, weeds, and broken path stones were everywhere. The outdoor furniture is either rusted or needs power washing. The overall feeling is gloomy. I had to leave the premises on Wednesday because it was incredibly depressing. (Think "Grey Gardens") Thursday morning, I was quite down about my experience, and it was affecting me physically. At breakfast, Alicia, the breakfast chef, noticed my discomfort; she listened to some of my issues and explained that only a skeleton crew is trying to keep the Inn going. (She is a true gem, by the way.) My spa services were good. Despite the loud noise coming from the water pipe, I found the "temporary" spa nice. I only wish it were open before Thursday. I called Buttermilk to cancel 2 days before check-in, but I made my reservation through Expedia, and I couldn't cancel or modify my booking under their policy. I also contacted them on the day of my arrival. They misrepresented the property: the "river view" room I booked, the claim that there is afternoon tea, bottles of water in the room, and that the on-site restaurant is open during the week. Do not be fooled by the pictures on their website or social media. They are years old and mostly professional photographs with lighting, flowers, and decorations for special events.
