Lots of shade and cool at around 5p in July! *Not terribly crowded when we walked here...hidden gem! *Good sized grassy area to set up sports practice, have a picnic, or rest awhile...when I was here there was a kids soccer camp with just 2 groups of kiddos CONS: *Cobwebs in the drinking fountain near the playground...bring your own water! Use directions from the CV Parks & Rec website instead (https://www.chulavistaca.gov/departments/public-works/parks/locations-features-amenities-photos/explorer-park) *I didn't see a parking lot...I parked on the street as did others. Parking was not a problem when I was here. Can't say for sure on holidays.

Built with probably age 7+ in mind but my toddler was able to enjoy everything easily. The slides were metal but it didn't burn anyone going down. I was happy there was a good amount of shade! Bring your own food and snacks. Prices are ridiculous. The ice cream truck was $6 for an ice cream sandwich. Prices are not posted and I didn't have the heart to say nevermind and disappoint the kiddos. Great park!

There are four big pine trees with separate retaining walls around three of them for owners to sit down. With it being so close to the bay, there's often a nice breeze that goes through the park. There's no divide between small dogs and big dogs, so it's best to just keep an eye on your dog, and many owners around here are usually respectful. The street parking immediately adjacent to the park is free, however, it has a limit of 30 minutes, and the parking meter workers are strict on it if they're around. I bring my dog here around lunch time because those who live/ work in the area tend to bring their dogs during their break time and my dog gets his socialization time. They close 8am-11am MWF for maintenance/ cleaning. Currently, both gates are broken so it's not as secure as it should be, and who knows when the city will actually fix it. There're a few agility structures and a water dispenser. The children's park itself looks pretty cool for kids with a lot of structures with slides and swings. There's also another separate area with fixed exercise equipment that looks well- maintained. The water feature in the park is a water feature, not a pool.

It usually is jammed packed with kids and cars once school lets out for the day....so avoid this area unless youre here picking up your kid during the week or there to meet or make some mom friends :)

So many other parks are popping up around this area that we could easily go there but this our park. There are basketball courts nearby but good luck trying to get it for actually playing basketball. It seems it's a dance floor where kids bump loud music with profanity when they can clearly see 6 and under kids playing in the playground. There have been times when I asked to turn it down or play kid friendly music and sometimes they oblige but others they just ignore the request and continue to attempt to dance like the Jabawokeez. I said try. Or they do that whacking silliness and fight with the air.... Regardless of the various characters at this park, this park is pretty legit. It's kept pretty clean. I honestly can't tell you what the bathrooms look like inside because I just don't use public bathrooms unless it's an emergency.

The downside that I experienced today is that too many parents treat it as daycare, while they sit and doom scroll on their phones the entire time rather than watch their own children. Maybe the solution is more staff on site to enforce safety for ALL, and possibly color coded wristbands to help locate children and their parents quicker. When I was there there was only one young lady who was working, and she was doing what she could in terms of cleaning and helping guests. The 4 and under area seemed to be overran by kids who seemed older than 4 and were rough housing. Did not feel safe to have my 1 year old playing in the same vicinity. Children possibly between the ages of 5-7 walking on the ledge of the ball pit area and jumping onto the inflatable obstacle course. I was worried if they lost their balance walking on the ledge they would've landed on my daughter who was sat playing in the ball pit. One older boy, around 5-6 years old forcefully moved my 1 year old's hand from an item they both wanted, and parents nowhere to be found or redirect the behavior. So, I instead moved my daughter to a different area. One parent seemed to have stayed on his computer with headphones in the ENTIRE time while we were there, and I never saw him get up to check on his children the hour that we were there. Safety should be the priority for everyone and parents sitting there staring at a screen is totally unfair to the parents who are near their children the entire time, as this place claims it should be. We did enjoy it, though it seemed more stressful trying to make sure the other older children didn't accidentally hurt my child while their parents' face remained glued to a screen.

What is awesome is you pay for the day and enter in and out as much as you would like. You can bring in food and drinks just not "party size" which makes sense! The kids loved it here it has a little bit of everything. It was perfect for our rainy day Also the manger was sooooo nice! A couple of the kids had a minor accident and she made sure to go out of her way checking in on the kids asking if we needed anything and even offering ice packs. There is a bit of remolding going on for future expansion it looks like.
