Mike is the owner and was our instructor for the LTC course. He is knowledgeable, funny and engaging. He will not put you to sleep! Just a few things you need to know about this particular class: - class starts at 10am and ends around 5:30-6pm - around 2:30pm you'll have to drive 15-20 minutes to the outdoor shooting range - lunch is provided. If you have special diet, bring your own lunch. You will not have time to leave and get lunch. - you'll need to drive in gravel / dirt raid to get to the outdoor shooting range so don't bring your motorcycle or fancy car (if you have options) - use the restroom before heading to the range - bring your handgun. You can rent a handgun from them. You can use 22 caliber or larger. You'll have to check your handgun at the desk. - bring a bottle of water to last you for the day - they have coffee so if you like another form of caffeine, bring it - wear light weight pants if you're taking the class in the summer - wear closed toe shoes like athletic shoes or hiking shoes - bring sunscreen or a hat If you have never shot a gun or don't feel comfortable with your gun, take a beginners class before taking the LTC course. I really like Central Texas Gun Works. Every time I go there I'm impressed by their customer service. Working at a gun store is not easy, but these guy do a good job. Today i did an FFL transfer, i had all my stuff ready and i was in and out in 20 minutes, which was impressive considering there was like 6 or 7 other people waiting. I took the license to carry class this past Saturday and I cannot say how great it was. I was referred by one of my coworkers to take the class here. Micheal, the owner did a phenomenal job on explaining the law. It was not boring and was very entertaining throughout. They provided pizza and the opportunity to purchase an insurance plan which I would highly recommend if you were going to carry. The class starts at 10 and ends at four at the range. If you have not shopped before I would recommend that you go before hand to go shoot before getting on the range. The first hour was spent at their facilities in a class room setting, going over gun safety and beginner information. So after reading the reviews i must say that my experience thus far are vastly different. First of all, 80% of people don't leave good reviews. They mainly leave bad reviews as to poke the place a little. Take into consideration the volume of this shop and what they're offering. They offer a very needed service in this country (Especially right now) I have read the shipping issues ETC. They use (Like every gun shop) a vendor to ship them their online orders. That is out of their hands and many of the issues seem to be around Covid. I just ordered a Sig P320 X Five and spoke to Micheal today. The firearm will be in his shop on Wed and he called the vendor to double check while i was on the phone with him. This is an extremely busy Shop so maybe calling them to remind them of your order isn't a bad idea instead of waiting 3 months then writing a bad review. Just my 2 cents. Anyway, they have been extremely professional, Micheal has been available and awesome when i call! I have just referred the 31 guys in my crypto group to go through him from all of their gun needs. They are all going to use his services. I will update picking up the gun after i get it, but these bad reviews have been eating at me and I had to post my experience so far. With any review, there are always 2 sides. The way you come at people will always determine the customer service you recieve. Michael (business owner) finally called me back in October and said that I needed to be more patient. Are you joking!!! I said to him I was tired of waiting and to tell me what day he'd be there so I can get a refund and have him handle it personally. He said to come by any Mon/Wed/Fri. I attempted twice and he always seemed to be away on those days. Not only was he not there, one of his minions (short dude with a big attitude, which probably suffers from LMS) gave me attitude both times and told me that I'd have to handle it with Michael. I purchased two guns from Central Texas Gun works on January 23rd, 2020. I received a receipt for my purchase, paid in full, on January 25th. I called the shop shortly thereafter to inquire about how long it would take for me to receive my weapons. I was told that it typically takes 10 days for their shop to receive the inventory through a 3rd party, and that my weapons would then be forwarded to my FFL in 2 days with tracking info. On February 10th, I called the shop, who for some unknown reason could not locate my purchase order and didn't know what I was talking about. Upon being forwarded by phone to the owner, Michael Cargill, he too had difficulty finding my purchase order. Once found, I was told that the weapons I ordered were not in the shop, and that they were scheduled to be delivered to the shop on Friday February 14th. On Saturday, February 15th, I called the shop, who again had difficult finding my purchase order, and was told that they didn't come in. I gave the shop until February 25th until I engaged the owner, Michael Cargill by email, requesting a status update on my order. He again told me that it was scheduled to be delivered to their shop on February 28th. On Tuesday March 10th, I called the owner, Michael Cargill, who for the third time said "it's scheduled to depart here on Friday". Dealing with this company so far has been infuriating. The employees are largely incompetent and untrained on basic tasks such as checking on the status of a customers order or being able to discern whether a gun is in the shop or not. My advice would be to steer clear of this company like the Corona Virus. *** Update: 06/27/2020 *** This worthless excuse for a company recently had their BBB accreditation pulled, response from the BBB provided below: "BBB files indicate that this business has a pattern of complaints alleging significant delays in receiving products ordered. Customers also allege difficulties receiving responses to inquiries about their order. On May 7, 2020, BBB submitted a written request to the company encouraging them to address the pattern of complaints. As of June 12, 2020, BBB has had no response." read more

Michael, Matt, Roland, Freedom and the other super helpful staff there are great. I've seen some critical reviews on gun purchases there. It seems they're working on updating their website, so that if a gun is not in stock, it will provide a rough estimate on ETA at their store. My feathers got a bit ruffled when I bought a gun on the site that actually wasn't in stock, but it did come in pretty quick after that. I buy a variety of gun accessories and such online, I realize there's wait times in many cases. But I have the expectation, especially on a gun purchase, that if it's not in stock, the gun shop's site needs to clearly reflect that, and again provide an ETA on when it will be in stock, then buyers won't flip out. Or have some better follow up method for keeping buyer's posted on the arrival status. This purchase was the best price anywhere I looked, which is awesome and I will consider buying there again. I went to their store today for the first time. The store was very clean and had the firearms and accessories displayed nicely. They have a really nice AK47 display on the rear wall. The firearms expert there that greeted me was Elmer and he is very helpful and informative toward new firearms enthusiasts like me. I plan to pick up a Glock 17 from them soon and it will be my first firearms purchase. Elmer said that they have the lowest prices in town for any new firearms you would like to order, so that's a great selling point if you're looking for a good price on something you're interested in. When I was in the store I picked up a really nice range bag for 29 bucks and some high tech ear plugs that I will use when I take my pistol to the range in the future. I look forward to patronizing this store more in the future when I buy a rifle and a shotgun. I signed up for the beginner firearms class on their web site and I am looking forward to it. I wanted to host a CHL class on New Years Eve for my dear's birthday. They agreed to hold the private class and it was reasonably priced. Central Texas Gun Works provided yummy breakfast and pizza for lunch! Coffee was ready when we got there at 8am. Mike taught the class - it was FUN, funny, enjoyable and most importantly informative! We learned so much and laughed a lot. Mike is beyond knowledgeable and was able to answer all of our questions. Xavier was patient and let us practice unloading and loading and made sure we felt comfortable with the weapons. When we went to shoot - I never felt nervous (which is saying something considering every other time I have fired a handgun I have cried). The instructions were clear and we all shot well, which I attribute to the excellent instruction provided Mike and Xavier. ALSO - Central Texas Gun Works, is a full service shop - sales, repair, fabrication, continuing education classes -- but never once did we feel pressured to buy anything. One of our group is looking into custom holster :) And I feel confident saying that if I buy a gun, it will be from this shop. LASTLY - at the end of our CHL class - THEY GAVE TREY A BIRTHDAY GIFT BASKET! ABOVE AND BEYOND! It was so nice and thoughtful!!! There was pizza, cute videos, and a staff that made sure all the paperwork was in order for submission. Those were nice perks, however I think this CHL factory missed an important goal for the CHL class: techniques on how to avoid having to use your weapon. Tool little time was spent on conflict resolution. I did feel that an acceptable amount of time was spent on discussing where you can, and can not, carry a concealed weapon. The class started late, the class ended early, the range was in a muddy pit out by the new racetrack. I didn't want to take my car on a muddy field, and then cake my shoes with mud, but I didn't have much choice if I wanted to complete the class. Shooting late in the afternoon facing into the setting Sun was a stupid idea, too. There were too many breaks that took too long. There was a presentation from a law firm about signing up for a service that will allow you to call them with questions, or be represented in the case you ever have to use your weapon. This alone was well over one hour, because we took an extended break to allow people to sign up for it. The whole thing just felt like delays, stretching of time, and filler material in order to meet the mandated class time. Mike was not the only instructor - he left several times to, I believe, check on another class that was happening at a nearby hotel. The fill-in instructors couldn't have been less interested in what they were doing. I was disappointed in the quality of my CHL class. Mike is charismatic, but his personal desire to get folks involved in his political agenda was overwhelming at times. Too often he spoke about patriotism, getting involved with the legislature, and making sure gun owner's rights were not taken away. I didn't bother discussing any of my feelings with him because I didn't get the impression he desired feedback. I paid my money, took the course, got my CHL. I won't go back here for my shooting recertification, and I would not recommend this course to anyone that wants to learn something. read more

Took the LTC class here. Mike was great. He kept it interesting and he knows the statutes so well he can almost recite them. Ask him a question and you'll find he knows the statute and section number, as well as the page number in the handbook, where you can find your answer. He's also very active in defense of our Second Amendment rights, which I appreciate. I was very impressed with him and his staff. The gun range is at a different property. It's covered and there's a table in front of you. They have a target frame set up at three yards. They tell you how many rounds to put in your magazine or cylinder and how long you'll have to shoot them. Once you've fired twenty, they'll tell you to pick up your target frame and move it back to the seven and then come back. You'll fire twenty shots at seven yards the same way you fired twenty rounds at three, and then you will move your target to the fifteen. Once you've fired ten rounds at fifteen yards, you'll collect your target and bring it back to the three for scoring. Do not wear nice shoes if it has been raining. read more

Michael is an excellent choice for an LTC instructor. His depth of knowledge and ability to field questions quickly really amplified the amount of understanding you can receive in a one day class. Office was comfortable, pizza was good, and everything ran smoothly. Only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that the class started late and ended late. Michael Cargill gave a spectacular class. I was very well informed when the test came. This class was the short one thanks to new policies in Texas. Only took about 4 hours + range time. Plan to have your entire afternoon free. The shooting range is about .35 miles from CoTA. The class was fun, entertaining, and well organized. My advice though is be prepared to buy a lawyer, Law shield will give a presentation about having the law on your side as a concealed carry card holder. I wish I had known about their presentation before hand. I would've brought extra funds. The entirety of the class didn't feel like 4 hours. But the clock says otherwise. Take this class, be sure your paperwork's in order: Dps fees paid, Dps application complete, a box of ammo with your handgun, sun glasses, ear protection, and a willingness to learn. They are overwhelmed. Too many guns being run through there equals customer service issues. The fee to transfer has now gone up as well. Central Texas Gun Works sends an email stating to wait a couple hours after any transfer is delivered to allow time to process the transfer. Well, I waited three hours and then drove 45 minutes to go pick up my transfer and was told that they haven't even began processing that days transfers. This was around 3 pm. All they had to do is go retrieve my transfer from the back and complete the transfer process on paper. Instead they said they were too busy. The two hours of my time wasted driving to be told this is a deal breaker for me. Too bad I liked using them before this happened. read more

Took the LTC class today. I had heard that the class is both educational and engaging and now I can confirm! I appreciate how charismatic and passionate the instructors are. They are not only happy to answer questions but were encouraging people to ask! The range qualification portion was fun and I really liked the little secluded area that we got to use for shooting. I wish I could find a public local outdoor range like that one to use all the time! The range officers were very patient with those who were having issues on the line and made sure everyone had a safe and positive experience. Something I want to reinforce is that the purpose of this course is to educate LTC applicants about laws, some conflict resolution, and continue to create a culture of responsible and conscientious gun owners. STAY AWAY!!!!!! Do not go here. They are some of the rudest people with no customer service skills. The owner got in my face outside with no mask on. 3 times in 6 months and every time someone has a attitude and yells at you for asking a question. They act like they are the only place in town. Good prices. Just got annoying when they said it would take 10-15 days for me to get the gun and it takes a month and a half. Every time I called I got a new story on why they didn't have it. I started getting really pissed about the whole thing. Someone said they'd give me a few boxes of ammo for the trouble. That never happened. In the end I just picked up the gun and walked out. I ordered a gun from them and was told it would arrive in 2-3 weeks. After 4 weeks and no call, I called them. They told me it would be another week. I waited a week, and called...they said the same thing, promising that it would be in the next Friday, and that they would call. They never called. So after a month I called on a Monday. They said it was in Austin, but not at the store yet, that it would be in the next day guaranteed. I called every day that week, and they promised every day it was there and would be available the next day. After a month an a half I got the owner, and he guaranteed it would be in the next Tuesday, and offered free ammo as an apology. Next Tuesday came, and no call. I called, and they said it still hadn't arrived yet...but that it would be in at the end of the week for sure. Needless to say after almost 2 months, and being lied to for 3 weeks over a dozen times, I never got the gun. When I asked for a refund, they said they couldn't process it and someone would have to call me back later that day. They never called. I called back again, and the owner Mike said that he'd process it when he got back. He never did. I finally called a third time about my refund, and after being told that they couldn't process it again and would have to call me back, I informed them that I was not going to call again, and if I didn't get my refund this time I was reporting it as fraud. They told me to hold, and Mike got on the line and submitted my refund. The refund still took almost a week to go through after that. So 2 months later I still have no gun, and wasted hours dealing with CTGW. Worst gun shop I've ever dealt with, and I've been a hobbyist for most of my life. Worst customer service ever, bordering on fraud. I work in Digital Marketing with Businesses all the time, and I've never seen anything short of a scam that was this bad. I went to another local gun store and ordered the same gun, and got it the same day for $50 less than what CTGW had charged me. Completely ridiculous. Steer far away from this place if you value your time, money, and honesty. read more

Brought a M&P in to get sights but on. They cracked the front sight when trying to install it. Instead of saying that's on us they charged me for a partial sight install and said yeah you will have to contact the vendor of the sights for a replacement. Don't get sights done by them!
