In November, I had a procedure to remove papillomas (warts) from my vocal cords. A month later the cords looked okay, but my voice quality was not good. My voice was raspy and inconsistent and it often felt like an effort just to speak. Not a voice that one wants as a teacher. My ENT referred me to Lisa Famiglietti. After 3 weeks of 30-minute sessions twice a week and another three weeks meeting once a week, (a total of 9 sessions) my voice is now better than it has been in years. I cannot speak too highly of her. She gave me back my voice. I recommend doing the sessions over Thera, which is like Zoom. You save time and gas money. The remote sessions worked perfectly for me. Once again, if you are unhappy with your voice quality, I highly recommend Lisa Famiglietti. read more

I never thought to leave a review before, probably because I started speech therapy right as the pandemic started, but I cannot let another year go by without saying that going to Central Texas Speech Therapy helped me to begin getting my singing voice back after battling chronic Lyme disease and losing my singing voice. Lisa Famiglietti was my therapist and she is the best of the best. At the time I was working with her, I was a music teacher and my voice improved and I was able to sing with more ease with my church music team. I have since changed careers and am not singing anymore, but now that I am close to finishing a PhD, I have time and the bandwidth to start doing my speech therapy exercises again. I am glad I recorded all of my sessions with her three years ago. Lo and behold, my singing voice is coming back again. It feels good to sing again and feel resonance in my face and body again. Working with the staff and speech pathologists at Central Texas Speech Pathology Services has been a pleasure. The office personnel are extremely helpful, diligent in following up and have a true genuineness about them that makes scheduling appointments easy. In fact, the staff went above and beyond on my behalf, reaching out to my insurance company to get treatment pre-approved without burdening me with the task of calling. Their staff was kind enough to deal with insurance complications before my arrival, making my visit to CTSPS hassle-free. Not only that, but the therapists were always punctual, thus my appointment time was "as advertised," which is very much appreciated. In addition, the pathologists are extremely knowledgeable and prove to be experts in their field. I visited Dr. Lisa over the course of my treatment for Vocal Cord Dysfunction. The results have been outstanding - I am proud to say that I am now able to participate in the sport I love best, triathlons, without any issues breathing thanks to my sessions with CTSPS. While I was skeptical at first, Dr. Lisa's course of action proved to be helpful in reducing stress and opening my vocal cords, allowing me to breathe. I literally searched and searched all over Austin for a speech therapist who specializes in Vocal Cord Dysfunction. I saw many speech therapists in hopes that someone, anyone would be able to help me. Unfortunately, it was a waste of my time and money, not to mention the stress that I endured wondering if I was going to have to live with breathing difficulties for the rest of my life. I even called specialists in Houston and San Antonio in hopes they could refer me to someone or schedule me for an appointment. I was so desperate for help, that I even went to a vocal coach in hopes that she could help me, but that experience belongs in a different Yelp review. ;) When I found out Lisa specialized in VCD (i couldn't believe my ENT didn't refer me to her sooner- what the...?), I was overjoyed. I even got teary eyed as i made my appointment. (Don't judge. Vocal Cord Dysfunction feels like your drowning all the time). I highly recommend Lisa. She really knows what she is doing and truly understands what VCD feels like. It is such a relief it to have her expertise available, and know that I will be able to breathe with her guidance. I have only seen her four times now but she gave me exercises to do right away. Which to me, was huge. All of the other therapists I saw for VCD sent me on my way without any exercises until the second or third session. Learn from my experience and go to Lisa first. She's the best. read more

I suffered with a chronic, persistent cough for over a year. The kind of cough that stopped strangers in their tracks to check on my welfare. While exercising, I experienced pains in my chest or shortness of breath. My voice would intermittently became hoarse. As a new residence of Austin, I began my root cause investigation with an allergist and extensive allergy testing. When that treatment plan did not resolve my symptoms, I followed doctors suggestions visiting a pulmonologist, cardiologist and oncologist. Stress test, scans for all kinds of cancer and pulmonary function test eliminated many diagnosis but did nothing to relieve my symptoms. I switched to a new pulmonary doctor, who recommended I see a speech therapist to be evaluated for Vocal Chord Dysfunction (VCD). Honestly, I thought he was reaching but I made an appointment with whom he highly recommended: Lisa Famiglietti. I entered Central Texas Speech Pathology very skeptical and discourage. I left my first session with a list of vocal exercises and still not convinced but I chose to religiously follow Lisa's recommendations. Within days, I noticed a decrease in the intensity of my coughing episodes. By the end of the first week, I became excited that this treatment plan was going to work as both the frequency and intensity of all my symptoms decreased. By the end of the second week, I knew VCD Speech Therapy was the solution I was seeking. I appreciated the way Lisa clearly explained VCD and why it was causing all my symptoms. I didn't even know I had Vocal Chord Dysfunction before I met Lisa Famiglietti. I just knew that my throat tightened up every time I went on stage, and threatened to take me off the stage (and out of my career) for good! I had seen another Speech Language Pathologist for a while, but I knew we hadn't gotten down to the real problem. Lisa explained things in a way that was easily understood, to the degree that they could be explained, anyway. Much of VCD, as well as the treatment of it, seems like voodoo! She's the first to tell you that. But I trusted her, and the voodoo worked, and that's all I need to know! My whole experience at CTSPS was wonderful. Oh, AND.....a close friend of mine told me that she had also, coincidentally, been successfully treated by Lisa for VCD! This friend had suffered from 12 years of debilitating "asthma," struggled with it daily, and spent $250k in that time trying to treat it. We are so grateful that we got connected to Lisa Famiglietti! She is very knowledgeable on Vocal Cord Dysfunction which can impact breathing, swallowing, and speech. She is also incredibly helpful with swallowing problems that can arise from chronic coughing. We didn't know about any of this prior to meeting with Lisa, and found ourselves down the path of seeing many different specialists and not finding answers. I had a hemorrhage on a vocal cord that was not healing on its own and my ENT's office recommended Lisa at Central Texas Speech Pathology. I am so glad they did! I started to see results after the first session and within 8 weeks I was fully healed. The exercises she had me work on are things that I will continue to do and have integrated them naturally into my everyday life so hopefully I won't have to go through this again. My daughter was a previous patient back in 2007. She had severe speech delay and still continue to struggle at the age of 16. At the end of May I started calling around trying to find a company that could get her in for testing and reevaluated, since her last evaluation was at the age of 7. Every company I called was booked for months; however, when I called the north office the staff was so polite and was able to get her an appt. within one week. They made my daughter feel comfortable and she was able to explain her true issues without judgement. It took about a week as I was told to get the report and findings. I spoke with Ms. Kendall O'Hara she was nice and professional. She went over the findings even went out of her way to instruct me about setting up therapy and changing my provider so I won't be charged out of pocket fees.
